Donji Kraji mediation

@CaptainEek please, Sir, would you now be able to make some review of Donji Kraji TP (from section which you initiated: Talk:Donji_Kraji#Discussion,_round_2) so that you can give us some inputs from your perspective - editor Ceha sabotaging all that we discussed for three long days, in which editors Mhare, editor Flyer, editor Ceha and myself all participated to various degree. Editor Ceha simply has no regards for any arguments evident in sources, and employs variety of circumlocutory rhetorical tactics, which now uses as an excuse for "round 2" of reverts and with obvious intent to edit-war if we do not comply with his requests and personal opinions, based on what they believe TP and things discussed there (authors-historians and sources) should be interpreted. Now editor even accuses me of "bring persons with the same opinion" to the TP, which is blatant breach of WP:Casting aspersions since editor was, of course, unable to produce any evidence. I hope you will be able to pars through the necessary information and find out what exactly is going on and what is the right/best way to resolve this stall. Since, discussion is certainly long you may have some questions - I will wait for your response, thanks.--౪ Santa ౪99° 05:14, 25 November 2019 (UTC)

Also, when I sent this a few minutes ago, I had forgotten that you said it was preferable to be on your talk page. I feel that I may have accidently messed up the page for https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Articles_for_creation/Help_desk#21%3A06%3A33%2C_14_November_2019_review_of_draft_by_MemeTrooper I apologize.

MemeTrooper (talk) 05:13, 27 November 2019 (UTC)

MemeTrooper, Oh, don't worry about having it on AfC too. You could honestly put it there too, as it is the holiday season where I am, and I am not very active at the moment. In terms of the sources, Anime News Network is not reliable. The mediado source is a press release, which is not independent. ITmedia is not a reliable source, as it is partner/sponsor content. The netsquare piece is not independent. The japan today article might be promising, but the link gave me a 404 error so I can't analyze it. At best, only 1/5 sources can prove notability. You need to go back to the drawing board and find reliable and independent sources. If you can't find them, then the subject is just not notable, and we can't have an article about them. DRN

Hi Eek, if you are still in the process of framing that DRN, what do you think if could wait until tomorrow with it, by same time tomorrow would be quite alright. I have a job and 36 students on two continents that can't wait - in less then an hour my online class starts, and to be quite frank it wouldn't be that bad if everyone could have some time to catch a breath and cool their heads, I'm really upset about all this. AfC comments by FZS001

Dear CaptainEek You were the editor who recently declined my submission of the biography of Dr Albrecht Preusser. Would you mind giving specific details of what additional things need to be added to get the article published. Dr Preusser is an Academic working in mathematics and computing and has had his work independently accepted by prestigious academic/science journals as referenced on the article. He has worked in leading research institutions in Germany. His last position before retiring was the Fritz Haber Institute which is a part of the Max Planck Society (MPG). MPG is Germany's most prestigious research organisation which over its long history has produced many Nobel prize winners. His published works are computer algorithmns for solutions of maths problems. I am now retired and have had an extensive university education in science and other fields and long experience in producing well researched papers. One of the journals publishing Dr Preusser's material is the ACM. This is the Association of Computing Machinery which is based in the USA and is the professional society for computer scientists. Getting material published there in itself makes a person notable. I would appreciate your feedback and assistance in getting Dr Preusser's biography published. With thanksFZS001 (talk) 05:12, 8 December 2019 (UTC)FZS001

FZS001, Howdy hello! In order to be notable for inclusion on Wikipedia, one must firstly be covered in reliable and independent sources. Once you have that, then the subject must meet the specific notability requirements. In this case, that is the notability guide for academics. I recommend you give it a read through, and see how or how not Dr. P may meet our requirements. Generally, just being a prof and publishing things is not enough. Every academic does that. You need to show how this person has somehow gone above and beyond the average academic. If you cannot show that they meet one of the notability requirements, then we cannot cover them. Captain Eek Edits Ho Cap'n! 08:43, 8 December 2019 (UTC)

The author of Draft:MotionStudio 3D asked about the review of the draft in the IRC live help channel. While I agree with you that the page isn't ready for the mainspace, I don't see how your assessments of "isn't notable" or "is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia" apply. This is a software first developed in 1997 (before the internet age) and updated and re-released by Corel in 2011; it's mentioned in the Corel article among the acquired products, where many others seem to have articles. Also, the Japanese Wikipedia has an article of which this seems to be a partial translation. To me that makes it likely that it actually is notable, though finding good sources will be difficult. The draft will also need quite a bit of copyediting; the author clearly is not a native speaker of English, and it shows. That's not an issue of purpose, though. Huon (talk) 00:59, 9 December 2019 (UTC)

Huon, Thanks for bringing that to my attention, dunno what I was thinking frankly! Guess I need a nap or something. I will revert my reject, and replace it with a decline with some feedback to the user. Captain Eek Edits Ho Cap'n! 01:08, 9 December 2019 (UTC)

Third Opinion

Howdy Capt. I edited the article [Mt. Ararat] to include information that is clearly in the Hebrew text. It was reverted with the words "No its not." Before I reverted it back, and by doing so declare "yes it is" I wanted to help in how to do this. If you are not interested, then please let me know what to do. Should I repost my request to the same place? I don't think Wikipedia should be the place for religious arguments. Just the facts. Thank you for your help. It has been a while since I cared about editing. Please help me correct the phrasing on the page [Mt. Ararat]. You answered my call, but I didnt hear back from you. I am still interested in learning the procedure and seeking the third opinion on the seeming take over of a basic fact based on religious beliefs. Please respond. jph — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jeffrey Pierce Henderson (talkcontribs) 01:13, 10 December 2019 (UTC)

Jeffrey Pierce Henderson, Howdy hello! Thanks for reaching out to me again. I did not see your reply, as you did not ping me, using Template:ping, or posting here on this talk page, which I watch closely. In terms of this dispute, the third opinion process isn't quite relevant yet. Third opinions are for when discussion on a talk page between two editors has failed. But, and correct me if I'm wrong, I don't see that you have discussed this with the person who reverted you. You ought leave a note on their talk page, or on the articles talk page (pinging them too). Ask why it was reverted, and state why you think it shouldn't have been. If that discussion fails, then come to me or third opinion again. Smooth sailing, Captain Eek Edits Ho Cap'n! 01:22, 10 December 2019 (UTC)

Request on 18:02:10, 5 December 2019 for assistance on AfC submission by Melwynjensen

I have not the foggiest clue what this page is about. Summarize in plain english what this is about. Also, more sources are needed

This article is about the history of a sub-division of a particular caste in India. Castes and Tribes are very much part of Indian culture and history. This article tells about the history of how, why and when a small community (caste) broke away from the main community. Since there have been lots of interests from the millennials of this particular community especially those who have migrated overseas the community leaders thought this history should be recorded online. And the best place to record is Wikipedia. There are more such subdivisions of this community that have already been recorded in Wikipedia. Please click: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elur_Chetty

We will definitely add more sources, references, and citations shortly.

Regarding your input on section heading changes, I have made the changes accordingly. Please check.

Thanks a lot for your review.

Melwynjensen, Be careful about comparing your article to existing ones. Many of the articles on Wikipedia were created before we began the rigorous Article for Creation process. That means a lot of ...honestly junk articles were created, and many of them have slipped through the cracks. You can read more about the logical fallacies involved in article comparison at WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. The Elur Chetty article is...atrociously bad and frankly not even sure it should exist.
Your article as written needs a lot of cleanup. You need a WP:LEAD which summarizes the subject. The language in general needs cleanup. It needs to be easily readable and understandable, and should use as few non-English words as possible.
Frankly though, I don't see the need for a separate article. This origin story seems apocryphal, and any useful information could just be added to the existing page Nagarathar.
You say the community leaders thought this history should be recorded online, were you asked to write this by them? Captain Eek Edits Ho Cap'n! 18:25, 5 December 2019 (UTC)

Yes, I was approached by one of the office-bearers of "Uruthikottai Nagarathar Vattagai" association. I understand they meet at least once a year during the occasion of "Pillayar Nonbu". This link talks more about this function exclusively celebrated by this caste.

http://www.nagarathar.co.uk/index.php/culture/pillayar-nombu

Melwynjensen (talk) 10:17, 7 December 2019 (UTC)

We have removed the Lead section and replaced with a new write up which is more relevant to the history. We have also given more evidences and supporting Links. We are in the process of adding more references and cleaning up the page. Please let us know if we are in the right direction and thanks for all your time and help. Melwynjensen (talk) 03:46, 10 December 2019 (UTC)

Melwynjensen, A variety of issues remain. One, an issue of your account: accounts are to be used by one person and one person only. Also, as I will leave a note on your talk page about, you appear to have a conflict of interest in this matter. That doesn't mean you have to stop, but it does mean some declarations need to be made.
The article itself:
  • I'm afraid I don't understand the language of the sources and can't be of tons of help regarding references. But I would still say you need more references if possible.
  • The language needs to be formalized in an encyclopedic style.
  • I somewhat doubt if the story is true. It may be apocryphal at best. Thus it should not be presented as true, but rather as a story. The fact that it is just a story may make getting this page approved very difficult.
  • Use non-english words as little as possible, this is the English language Wikipedia.
  • The whole "Evidences" section is unclear to me. What is its goal?
There are many other issues, but we'll deal with them in turn. I still stand by my earlier statement that I see no reason for a separate article. There is already a page on Nagarathar, and any useful sourced content could likely be added to the existing page. Captain Eek Edits Ho Cap'n! 04:01, 10 December 2019 (UTC)

Hi CaptainEek. I kindly ask you to check the article on the Italian painter Pino Concialdi. I personally think that the encyclopedic relevance is missing. Reviewer of the Year

This year's Reviewer of the Year is Rosguill. Having gotten the reviewer PERM in August 2018, they have been a regular reviewer of articles and redirects, been an active participant in the NPP community, and has been the driving force for the emerging NPP Source Guide that will help reviewers better evaluate sourcing and notability in many countries for which it has historically been difficult.

Special commendation again goes to Onel5969 who ends the year as one of our most prolific reviewers for the second consecutive year. Thanks also to Boleyn and JTtheOG who have been in the top 5 for the last two years as well.

Several newer editors have done a lot of work with CAPTAIN MEDUSA and DannyS712 (who has also written bots which have patrolled thousands of redirects) being new reviewers since this time last year.

Thanks to them and to everyone reading this who has participated in New Page Patrol this year.

Redirect autopatrol

A recent Request for Comment on creating a new redirect autopatrol pseduo-permission was closed early. New Page Reviewers are now able to nominate editors who have an established track record creating uncontroversial redirects. At the individual discretion of any administrator or after 24 hours and a consensus of at least 3 New Page Reviewers an editor may be added to a list of users whose redirects will be patrolled automatically by DannyS712 bot III.

Source Guide Discussion

Set to launch early in the new year is our first New Page Patrol Source Guide discussion. These discussions are designed to solicit input on sources in places and topic areas that might otherwise be harder for reviewers to evaluate. The hope is that this will allow us to improve the accuracy of our patrols for articles using these sources (and/or give us places to perform a WP:BEFORE prior to nominating for deletion). Please watch the New Page Patrol talk page for more information.

This month's refresher course

While New Page Reviewers are an experienced set of editors, we all benefit from an occasional review. This month consider refreshing yourself on Wikipedia:Notability (geographic features). Also consider how we can take the time for quality in this area. For instance, sources to verify human settlements, which are presumed notable, can often be found in seconds. This lets us avoid the (ugly) 'Needs more refs' tag.

FAC

Checking yesterday, I see that I first saw one of these wrens near Brawley, California in a trip to the state in 2012. I hope you are coping with your first FAC! Some nominations wither on the vine through lack of reviewers, but that's never the case with bird articles where you will get both the birdy folk like me, Aa77zz and Funkmomk, and copyeditors like Tim Riley. It's quite daunting seeing another 20 bullet points have turned up while you slept!

I've written a TFA blurb on the talk page of the FAC, which the coordinators routinely do now so that FAs are oven-ready when they are selected for main page, feel free to tweak at your leisure, but bear in mind that we are aiming at about 1000 characters. No guarantee when it will run after it's passed, since birds are one of the few areas where we have a surplus of featured articles. Merry Chhritmas to you too. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 06:42, 21 December 2019 (UTC)

Jimfbleak, Howdy hello! Thanks for the review, and the kind words. Glad there are so many folks helping out, I too feared that it might take a long time to attract reviewers. I'm keeping up pretty well, I have a lot of time to clean things up over the holidays. Its going about as well as I could hope my first FAC would go. It is quite cool to get so many good eyes on the page, and for folks to point out all the things I missed. I've really learned a lot, and am already thinking to what bird I'm going to write about next :)
They really are quite cool birds, I have one that lives outside my office and I can hear calling all day long. its very fun to watch them hop around on the ground, they are quite nimble.
Thanks for putting the blurb together! It may need to change a fair bit, as I think I will be majorly redoing the lead as I go through Fowler&Fowler's comments.
A very merry Christmas to you as well! Captain Eek Edits Ho Cap'n! 06:52, 21 December 2019 (UTC)

Requesting for clarification

Hello ,CaptainEek ,greetings from Zimbabwe .I have seen your review on Draft:Mai_Chisamba and i must say i didn't expect it to be reviewed fast so thank you so much .I however request that you walk me through the references and point out to me why they are not reliable ,because i just used newspapers in this draft,so it will be nice if you tell me your reasons. Well about grammar ,maybe my grammar is naturally bad ,i will see how best i can work on it.Happy holidays .Cheers!Georgiamarlins (talk) 07:37, 27 December 2019 (UTC)

Georgiamarlins, Pindula seems to be an encyclopedia, which is not suitable as a source. The standard article appears to be tabloid sensation. The New Zimbabwe article has effectively no content, and is mainly just quotes of her. The Sunday Mail link is not a source at all. The second article by the standard does not seem very relevant. The chronicle article is just quotes of her, as is the second new Zimbabwe article. In terms of grammar, the main issue is that you are placing periods and commas in the wrong places. A period should come at the end of a word, such as "potato." You are instead adding an unnecessary space, such as "potato ." Also, there must be a space after punctuation, such as "Potato, cow" You are often writing "Potato ,cow" which is wrong. Captain Eek Edits Ho Cap'n! 07:48, 27 December 2019 (UTC)
CaptainEek Greetings again from Zimbabwe ,thank you for clarification , i however have a lot to say about the sources but first i will look for more sources and come back to you.As for grammar, thanks for the heads up! I will get back to you soon Sir .CheersGeorgiamarlins (talk) 20:49, 27 December 2019 (UTC)
CaptainEek, greetings from Zimbabwe once again .Iam back and firstly i wanted to point out that the New Zimbabwe article that you said was mainly quotes from her i used it as per WP:BLPSELFPUB .Taking your comments about the other sources into consideration, i removed them and replaced them with new sources, i will paste all the new sources here, check : 1 Chronicle , 2 .Katrina Daly Thompson (2013). Zimbabwe's Cinematic Arts: Language, Power, Identity, p. 26.Indiana University Press,USA. ISBN 978-0-253-00656 ,3 SundayMail ,4 Hararetimes ,5 Zimdaily and lastly the Parliament of Zimbabwe mentioned her in their briefing, it could be something for her notability Parliament Of Zimbabwe. As for the grammar i tried my best, please notify me what you think about the Draft now and what you think about the new sources, Thank youGeorgiamarlins (talk) 21:56, 28 December 2019 (UTC)
Georgiamarlins, That is improved by far. Thank you! I have also made some edits. However, I'm still not certain if she is notable, so I am going to defer to another reviewer. I will put it back up for review for you. Captain Eek Edits Ho Cap'n! 00:12, 29 December 2019 (UTC)
CaptainEek, Greetings to you ,Thank you, i have seen what you have done thank you for fixing a lot and thank you for resubmitting.I however want to avoid the risk of it being declined again and i would strongly appreciate it if you tell me what exactly do i have to work on to make sure she is notable to you?.I can dig deeper to find sources but i just want to know what exactly do you want because in my own capacity i felt i have found the best sources. Please don't hesitate to say anything ,i'm still learning and i'm open to anything. Blessed Sunday, Cheers!Georgiamarlins (talk) 07:18, 29 December 2019 (UTC)
Georgiamarlins, I'm afraid I can't help tons more, as I'm not very experienced with non-Western notability. While I suspect she is notable, I want a second opinion. Notability is an inherent trait, that you can't change. But you can help prove it by finding as many good sources as you can! Captain Eek Edits Ho Cap'n! 07:21, 29 December 2019 (UTC)
CaptainEek, I understand your point now ,thanks for the clarification ,i will engage other reviewers.Meanwhile i will find extra good sources and see where i can get it.Been nice working with you.Stay BlessedGeorgiamarlins (talk) 07:27, 29 December 2019 (UTC)

Request on 22:26:12, 29 December 2019 for assistance on AfC submission by ForeverJustice

You deleted the article I started titled, "Dayton Unit NAACP." You said that it had copyrighted material. I don't understand which part of the article was copyrighted. Please advise so I can continue with the article.

ForeverJustice (talk) 22:26, 29 December 2019 (UTC)

ForeverJustice, When you write an article, never copy and paste material into it from sources. When you put material in Wikipedia, it must be sourced. But you can't just put the source in verbatim, as that is a copyright violation. You must instead distill the key concepts and paraphrase them. Do not paraphrase too closely either. I highly reccomend you carefully read the excellent advice that Ian has left on your talk page regarding how to write an article. If any part of it is unclear, please ask for clarification at the friendly Teahouse. Captain Eek Edits Ho Cap'n! 22:51, 29 December 2019 (UTC)
ForeverJustice, Let me clarify further. When a person writes a book, they own a copyright to the text inside it. The writing was their original work, and thus they own its intellectual property. For us to copy that material word for word is stealing from them. We are denying that person their intellectual property and money. The same goes for just about any written document published these days. Any website, any magazine, any news article is copyrighted. The only things not copyrighted are those where the author clearly and explicitly says so, works by the US Federal Government, and anything written before 1923. Deleted Article Felix Chidi idiga

Hello CaptainEek, you recently deleted this page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Felix_Chidi_Idiga, i have made adequate research and have improved this article tremendously, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Felix_Chidi_Idiga please peruse through and reinstate. Thank You.Chimaezeogoegbunam (talk) 15:59, 31 December 2019 (UTC)

Chimaezeogoegbunam, Howdy hello! So the issue here is that the article was deleted by strong community consensus. Six different editors agreed that the subject was not notable. The draft you have shown is not substantially different from the deleted version, thus it will not be accepted as an article. At this time, the subject is simply not well known enough to have a Wikipedia article. Give them a few years, and they might then be notable. But since they have not won a significant regional election, they do not meet our standards. Nor are their business activities enough to make them notable. Making articles from scratch is quite hard, don't be disheartened if some don't work out. Going forward, I suggest you read this excellent guide to making articles that pass the AfC process. Smooth sailing, Captain Eek Edits Ho Cap'n! 20:19, 31 December 2019 (UTC)

Volunteer Fire Department (A Series Of Unfortunate Events)

Dear Captain Eek, I saw your message on my talk page. Thank you for your advice. However, I really would like to find or make a suitable home for my article. Din't you offer to make help me with developing my article to make it fit Wikipedia guidelines? I would love if you gave me some quick pointers. There is no information on Wikipedia on the article that I am proposing. I believe this information needs to be known. My article contains information that people may have missed while watching the show or reading the books. Please help me edit my article so it perfectly fits Wikipedia's article guidelines. Thank you, Dswitz10734 (talk) 14:01, 31 December 2019 (UTC)

Dswitz10734, For starters, I caution that Wikipedia does not write about everything. We only write about topics that have received significant coverage in multiple reliable and independent sources. Fandom related topics usually do not meet that standard. If you really do wanna write about it here, you need to find at least three, and preferably more, articles in the media that discuss the topic. If such sources cannot be found, then the subject is not notable here, and you would be better off on a fandom Wiki. The show itself cannot be used as a source. So that's my challenge to you: Find me five articles that discuss the VFD, and post them here. If you can't find five, just say so. Captain Eek Edits Ho Cap'n! 20:29, 31 December 2019 (UTC)

Dustin Stanton wiki page

Hello CaptainEek, was wondering if your could please review the revised wiki page I am trying to publish. I believe I have satisfy all needs that need to have been meet with wiki guidelines. I would like to get this approved ASAP thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gscroggins (talkcontribs) 00:45, 3 January 2020 (UTC)

Gscroggins, Well a few issues remain. For one, the lead is not written like our typical leads. It should start by stating who the person is, what they do, and then briefly summarize the article. The college career section is entirely external links. Not sure how you did that, but you should convert the external links to references. And a sentence in the early life section is still uncited. Other issues may remain, this is what I see at a glance. Captain Eek Edits Ho Cap'n! 02:34, 3 January 2020 (UTC)

The article says it was accepted however when I go onto google and try to find it, it does not populate. Am I missing something? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gscroggins (talkcontribs) 15:28, 6 January 2020 (UTC)

Gscroggins, Howdy hello! Thats because the article still had to get patrolled. Drafts must not only get approved by a reviewer, but all new pages must be patrolled before they can be indexed by search engines. I have cleaned up the page and made sure it meets our minimum standards, and marked it as patrolled. It should be indexed by search engines shortly. Help needed: Article Review

Hello, I was unable to reply back to the help desk as the conversation was archived and I decided to write here.

This is the article I asked for help https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Dejzi

You were the one who replied to me and thank you for that. I have carefully read what you have written and am trying to make some comments that might help.

For the article I asked for help I have quoted only the part where it is related to the content I have written, I have many other articles that tell about the artist in question, below I am listing some of them that might help in this regard.

The other reason I wrote about Dejzi is because she was selected to attend the globally influential fashion week in Harbin, China 2018 among more than 120 countries around the world, our state has never been represented by anyone before at this event and this is the first time they have selected an artist from Kosovo.

Although a young artist in her state of living, she is highly esteemed for the dignified representation she has made at this event.

Dejzi also works with many well known/celebritites who have thanked her for her work, I know social networks are not a good source, but in this case photography is worth more than a thousand words to prove it.

Articles/Videos on representation of Kosovo in Harbin China: Telegrafi.com Gazetablic.com Koha.net Dejzi Full Harbin Show Vogue.com

Dejzi Google Knowledge Panel: Google Knowledge Panel

Thanks so much again for the help and all the contributions to the Wikipedia community.--Arjanhalili (talk) 18:27, 6 January 2020 (UTC)

Arjanhalili, Of the sources you present here, the Telegraf and Gazetablic sources would be good. The videos really can't be used, as we just tend not to use YouTube videos as sources for a variety of reasons. The google knowledge graph is not a source. Instagram can't be used as evidence of collaboration, only reliable sources (of which Instagram posts are not). I would try to find a few more sources. The article itself needs much more sourcing in general, especially inline references. The early life section has no sources. You'd also need a section about her career. Adoption

Hey! I see you want to adopt me and I would love that! I'm looking for someone who knows how to edit and code. Plus I'd eventually would like to publish an article. I'm skilled in grammar so I could edit some articles but I don't know how to actually write an article itself. If you could help me, that'd be great! UB Blacephalon (talk) 19:55, 6 January 2020 (UTC)

Blacephalon, Howdy hello! I can help you with WikiMarkup (the "code" that most people see) and the backend of editing. If you want to write actual code (such as scripts), I may not be the right person, but can suggest others to help. I can definitely help you get an article published; I'm a reviewer at Articles for Creation and help folks write articles all the time. If you'd like this adoption to go forward, you can put Template:Adoptee on your userpage, making sure you insert it using the curly brackets, and substituting my name "CaptainEek" as the adopter. I'll do the same on my page for you.
My modus operandi for adoptions is to give advice and watch over your contributions and point out helpful tidbits. But more than anything, I'm relying on you to ask for help when you need it. I'm usually pretty quick to answer any question.
In your next reply, tell me what you're interested in, and what sort of things you might like to write an article about, and I can start to guide you through the process. Captain Eek Edits Ho Cap'n! 20:09, 6 January 2020 (UTC)

Draft:Lilia Buckingham - "significant roles"

Hi CaptainEek. Thanks for your response at the AfC Help desk and for your invitation to continue the conversation here. I want to focus on your comment that "her roles do not appear to be substantial," because I believe the sources show that Lilia Buckingham's roles have, in fact, been substantial, and therefore the subject passes WP:NACTOR. Here are some reliable sources that demonstrate my point. Even though the definition of "significant" may be subjective, I think you'll agree that if a source says that a person "stars" in a show (or if she was the narrator and co-producer), that means the role is significant.

  1. Deadline: "Lilia Buckingham, from Brat's original series Dirt, narrates and co-produces." (Crown Lake)
  2. Variety: "Kalani Hilliker ... and Lilia Buckingham also star." (Dirt)
  3. Tiger Beat: "Emily Skinner, Francesca Capaldi, Lilia Buckingham and more are set to star in this exciting new series!" (Crown Lake)
  4. Seventeen: "Meet The Stars of YouTube’s Brat Channel: Lilia Buckingham, Kalani Hilliker ... the stars of 'Chicken Girls' and 'Dirt' ..."
  5. Hollywire: "She has starred on Chicken Girls, Total Eclipse, and Dirt making her one of the most popular Brat stars."
  6. J-14: Full article dedicated to Buckingham and her roles on various Brat TV shows

I think if you look at these sources, among others, you will see that Buckingham has had multiple significant roles on notable TV shows, including one character (Autumn Miller) across several shows, who is a central character across the Brat TV universe.

Thanks so much in advance for taking a closer look at the viability of this draft! D at Trendera (talk) 10:26, 5 January 2020 (UTC)

@D at Trendera: The subject definitely does not meet WP:NACTOR nor WP:GNG. Here are the problems with your sources:
  1. This source is mostly about Sara Shepard.
  2. The article is just about the show.
  3. I'm not particularly confident that this is a reliable source. I'm getting a lot of covert advertising vibes from it.
  4. While this source substantially covers the subject, it does not exclusively cover her.
  5. Same thing I said for source number 3.
  6. This is the only reliable secondary source which covers the subject in depth you have provided in that list.
I will also say that I really do not understand why anyone would want a Wikipedia article written about them. An article about yourself isn't necessarily a good thing. Either way, there you go.
Kindest regards, –MJLTalk 21:55, 6 January 2020 (UTC)
Hi @MJL: Thanks for chiming in! Let me clarify that I'm not trying to demonstrate WP:GNG, only WP:NACTOR, which does not require significant coverage, if I understand the policy correctly. These sources (at least, those which are accepted as reliable - I understand that we may differ on the reliability of #3 and #5) demonstrate that the subject "has had significant roles in multiple notable films, television shows, stage performances, or other productions," which is the standard for WP:NACTOR#1.
So, for example, I accept that source #1 is "mostly about Sara Shepard" and that it should not be considered significant coverage for Lilia Buckingham. But this fact only invalidates the source for demonstrating WP:GNG; it seems like an excellent source for demonstrating WP:NACTOR.
If I've misread or misunderstood WP:NACTOR, please let me know, but it seems to me that these sources (assuming at least a few of them are reliable) should be acceptable. Thanks! D at Trendera (talk) 08:21, 7 January 2020 (UTC)
@D at Trendera: Part of the problem is that it is debatable whether a handful of productions from Brat can be considered qualifying for WP:NACTOR. I can open up a wider discussion at WT:BIO about that if you would like. MJLTalk 17:42, 7 January 2020 (UTC)
@MJL: Web television is still television, and the notability of an individual web series should be judged on its own merits. The questions that should be asked in determining whether Lilia Buckingham meets WP:NACTOR are:
  • Was she in television shows? (Yes - Brat TV series, like any other web television series, are television.)
  • Were some of them notable? (Yes - this has been established by consensus at Chicken Girls, Total Eclipse (web series), Crown Lake, etc.)
  • Were the roles significant? (Yes - established in my first post in this thread.)
I would be happy for you to open a discussion at WT:BIO if you think it will help establish a broader consensus on this (and to avoid cluttering CaptainEek's Talk page any further!). Thanks again, D at Trendera (talk) 08:35, 8 January 2020 (UTC)

Francisco D'Agostino

Hi Captain

I'm writing you to know about the problem with the post about the professor Francisco D'Agostino. It's a relevant jurist, one of the top lawyers in the world against the abortion. Right now, is invited professor at New York School of Law. I'm trying to translate his entry from another language two times and ever obtain a speedy deletion and i don't understand what. I'm interested on know about this to fix the error.

Inhigo ~~Inhigo~~

@Inhigo: The reason it keeps getting speedily deleted is because there was previously a deletion discussion about the prof. That discussion determined that the professor was not notable. If you would like to challenge that, you may file a request at Wikipedia:Deletion review. But I'll caution you: if the guy doesn't meet part of the professor notability guidelines, they are not notable. That's what the previous discussion concluded. Captain Eek Edits Ho Cap'n! 21:52, 2 January 2020 (UTC)
@CaptainEek: Hi Captain! Thanks for your directions (i'm newbie in the process of Wikipedia). I followed your tips and sent the article for a deletion review. I understood that the two last deletions of the articles where right, but, maybe is an option recreate a new article using more sources. Can you check the discussion? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Deletion_review/Log/2020_January_8#Francisco_D%27Agostino I'll like to know your opinion about that. Thanks in advance! Inhigo (talk) 18:52, 8 January 2020 (UTC)
Inhigo, I took a look at the discussion, and agree with Levivich. The deletions were proper. But Levivich has found sources that I didn't, which might make the subject notable. Since I don't speak Italian, I only was able to find the English and French sources, which were not sufficient. If you were to create a draft version of the article, using the Article Wizard, it could probably get approved. If you do so, let me know and I will help protect the draft from deletion, and can offer some advice. Captain Eek Edits Ho Cap'n! 19:25, 8 January 2020 (UTC)
@CaptainEek: Thanks very much Captain, i started the draft with the deleted article as skeleton https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Francisco_D%27Agostino Me and me classmates we'll improve this with all the sources that we can find in the next days and tell you when we'll ready to review. Please, if you can protect the draft, will be very helpful for us. Thanks and have a nice day! Inhigo (talk) 20:20, 8 January 2020 (UTC)

re-review of the article "Perspective Geological Correlation"

Sir, Sorry to bother you. Three month ago I presented the new version of the article "Perspective Geological Correlation" rewritten according your advises. When can I expect to get your response? Nabatoff (talk) 02:01, 9 January 2020 (UTC)

Nabatoff, Howdy hello! Sorry if I missed taking a look at it at some point, I have a lot to do and it sometime slips my mind. Also, note that many different reviewers may take a look at an AfC. If I'm slow in getting back, you can always submit it for review. A few things:
  1. The article needs a WP:LEAD.
  2. Too many images. Remove a few so that the most impactful remain.
  3. Nothing should be bolded except for the first mention of the title.
  4. Everything needs a citation
Other problems may remain, but those are the ones I notice at this go-round. I should be quicker with my next review. If more than a few days go by without me getting back, drop a reminder and I'll get to it ASAP. Captain Eek Edits Ho Cap'n! 02:56, 9 January 2020 (UTC)

ovi nedelcu

Hi CaptainEek, just wondering if you got a chance to look at the changes made to article page "ovi nedelcu". ThanksArad0211 (talk) 15:42, 30 October 2019 (UTC)

Hi CaptainEek, I took a look at your comments on the latest "declined" on my article. Thanks for the input. I will remove the reference to Ovi's personal website as a reference. I suppose I'm just a bit confused about some of the areas of concern. When I wrote the article, I was using these two other published articles as reference to try and make sure I was being faithful and accurate.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shannon_Tindle https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jake_Parker

On Shannon's page, most all of the references are linked back to wikipedia articles.

on Jake Parker's page, most if not all his references are linked back to his own website. I'm just a little puzzled how these two articles were published with just the bit of references they added? ThanksArad0211 (talk) 04:40, 31 October 2019 (UTC)

@Arad0211:Side note: make sure to add new comments at the bottom, and indent them using a colon.
In terms of the article: alas, neither of the example articles you used are very good. They are both rated as a stub, the worst possible. For some featured animator articles, which are the best possible, see Joseph Barbera and Walt Disney. Parker's article is in need of cleanup, which I have now tagged the article for. Some of these bad articles are from wayyyy back in Wiki history, before we created the Articles for Creation project. Thus, some real stinkers snuck through, and just haven't been cleaned up. But now we're much more vigilant to make sure that articles meet policy.
To get Ovi's article cleaned up, make sure you follow my advice and get some independent sources that establish his notability. Captain Eek Edits Ho Cap'n! 04:52, 31 October 2019 (UTC)

CaptainEek: Thanks for the input. I took your advice and added 5 reliable and independent sources [1] [2] [3] [4] [7], and clean up some other areas. I think Ovi's article is note worthy since he just won an Annie Award and is an established author and filmmaker, but there is no way I can compare him to Barbara or Disney, haha. but thanks for the link references. its helpful. Arad0211 (talk) 15:12, 31 October 2019 (UTC)

Arad0211, I see the Variety article that names him as the nominee for Storyboarding. But I don't see any source that names him in the win? If we gave everyone who worked on an award winning film an article, that would be overkill. Also, note that blogs are not reliable sources as they are self published. And the interview doesn't count, as that is not independent: its literally the subjects own words, which we have no way of verifying. Once again, many of the articles do not even mention the subject. And Wikipedia is still being used as a source, which is untenable. Captain Eek Edits Ho Cap'n! 18:44, 31 October 2019 (UTC)

CaptainEek: I thanks again for the input. I will make those changes and edits, but before I do that, can you clarify a few things? So Ovi had two different Annie Award catagory Nominations. One was for "Best special animation production/Mary Poppins" which Ovi/team won and got an award for, and also he was Nominated in the individual category "best storyboarding in a feature production". I will edit and note both of these categories. hollywood reporter As far as citing internal wiki pages, is that not allowed at all? should all of those references be external sources(media/press)? I just want to be clear since I have found so many wiki pages that use internal wiki pages as reference sources(including the barbera and walt pages you sent me) so I dont know in which case it is or is not acceptable? confusing. are you asking I take ALL of the internal references down off Ovi's article? thanks againArad0211 (talk) 20:44, 31 October 2019 (UTC)

Arad0211, you can link Wikipedia pages in text, using internal links, as that helps build the encyclopedia. But Wikipedia is not a source. I do not see where the Barbera or Walt articles use Wikipedia as a source, i.e. as a reference footnote. Footnotes should only be reliable independent sources. Wikipedia can't be used for that, as that would lead to circular references, and would hamper verifiability. The only place you still use one is for the Annie awards at the end, as far as I can tell. Captain Eek Edits Ho Cap'n! 20:56, 31 October 2019 (UTC)

CaptainEek: Ah, I see. Thanks for clearing that up. I got confused because both the sources and references are both put down in the "notes" section. So once I change the annie award footnote at the end as you mentioned, it should be good to go? thanksArad0211 (talk) 21:53, 31 October 2019 (UTC)

Arad0211, The issue I'm seeing here is that the Variety source mentions him in the nomination. But it does not mention him in the win. Theres no way to know he worked on that part of the film that Mary Poppins won for without a source that backs that claim up. Again, many of the sources do not mention him. If they do not mention him, they generally should not be there. The Kubo and space jam articles do not name him. Idk how you figured out he worked on those.
The main issue is still notability. Can you provide me three sources that are independent, reliable, and discuss Ovi with signifigant coverage? You can find an explanation of those concepts at WP:42. Captain Eek Edits Ho Cap'n! 02:40, 1 November 2019 (UTC)

Captain Eek: I removed the annie award "win" since it doesnt mention him personally, but was a "production win" for the animation production crew(which he was a part of and got an award). I removed mentioning he "won" and instead mention Mary Poppins Returns won for "best animated special production". I also removed the "won" from the "Awards" section. I removed the reference to "Space Jam 2" since it was sourced from his personal website under his list of credits both past, present and future/unreleased(Space Jam 2). I replaced it with "The Boxtrolls". I added a source for his credits on Kubo, Mary Poppins Returns and The Boxtrolls. I added 3 independent reliable sources to the article [1][2][3][4] for notability. Hope this irons it out. ThanksArad0211 (talk) 04:45, 1 November 2019 (UTC)

Captain Eek: if you still feel there is not enough notability here to approve it as an article, can you approve this as a STUB and then I and others can build upon it from there. I just feel that Ovi has an extensive list of credits both from the publishing and film making industries to merit an a page. Thanks again, let me know what you think.Arad0211 (talk) 23:48, 3 November 2019 (UTC) Arad0211, That's not quite how stub pages work. Even stubs need to be notable, being called a stub just signifies that they are bare bones, and low quality. I will take another look at the article when I have a bit more time and review it again.Captain Eek Edits Ho Cap'n! 00:48, 4 November 2019 (UTC)

Arad0211, Howdy hello! So I took another look. I'll be honest: I'm probably not the best person to approve this article. While I know the bad things to look for and can look for, I'm not super well versed in the notability of artists. My gut feeling is that he isn't, but I don't do that work regularly and thus might have missed something. My focus is more on biology, history, and science figures. My recommendation is that you wait until another reviewer comes along. That may take some time unfortunately, as the review queue is at about 8 weeks average right now, but that will give you time to polish the article anyway, or to find some other articles to work on. Sorry I couldn't be more help on Ovi, that's just not my area of expertise. If you have other questions about how to use Wikiepdia, or other advice, please let me know. Captain Eek Edits Ho Cap'n! 21:07, 11 November 2019 (UTC)

CaptainEek: ok no worries, thanks again. so should I just resubmit it again and then wait for someone else to see it?Arad0211 (talk) 03:51, 12 November 2019 (UTC)

Arad0211, Yeppers. It looks like you've already resubmitted, so now its just a bit of a waiting game. Please be patient, the backlog is a bit much at the moment. Captain Eek Edits Ho Cap'n! 20:04, 12 November 2019 (UTC)

CaptainEek: Hi, Happy New Year. Just wanted to circle back on this after you last comments of passing it along to another editor for review. its been just over 2 months and wanted to check back in and see if you know of any update? would really love to get this article published. Thank you.Arad0211 (talk) 20:48, 9 January 2020 (UTC)

Arad0211, The AfC review process can take a while I'm afraid. Right now the backlog is about 3,800 pages, which translates to at least 3 months. Hopefully your draft will be gotten to soon, but please be patient. Captain Eek Edits Ho Cap'n! 20:51, 9 January 2020 (UTC)

CaptainEek: ok thanks for the update. CheersArad0211 (talk) 00:55, 10 January 2020 (UTC)

Hello are you currently accepting new people to adopt? I am hoping to be adopted. Thank you :0 — Preceding unsigned comment added by MoniqueDonaldson (talkcontribs) 16:26, 9 January 2020 (UTC)

MoniqueDonaldson, I do adopt some newbies, although I have a few questions before I adopt, to make sure we're a good fit. If not, I can suggest some other adopters.
  1. What would you like to get our of adoption?
  2. What would you like to edit?
  3. Why did you join Wikipedia?
Please reply here so that I see it :) Captain Eek Edits Ho Cap'n! 18:42, 9 January 2020 (UTC)

Hello, Thank you for getting back to me.

1. I am hoping to write an article for a company I work for or receive help editing one. 2. Mostly number one but I hope to continue to use for personal use outside of work. 3. Past #1 , I hope to continue to use Wikipedia for personal use. Checking and citing sources on topics I am familiar with and went to school for. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MoniqueDonaldson (talkcontribs) 22:39, 9 January 2020 (UTC)

MoniqueDonaldson, Howdy hello! A couple of things here. Unfortunately I am not a good fit as an adopter, and don't honestly know who would be for you. You can check the list of adopters again and see who else is there if you really do want an adoption. I can certainly provide you some advice and guidance however.
For starters: we generally suggest that people don't write about things they have a conflict of interest with, such as their employer. Its hard to write neutrally about something you're involved with. As a further note, if you are to edit a page about your company, you must formally disclose that you have a paid relationship with them by following the guidelines at WP:PAID. Paid and COI editing is a very thorny and tricky area, and we generally advise folks stay away from it. If you are determined to get involved, let me know and I can help. But I warn that it is unlikely a page will get created.
The main issue you will face if you try to write an article about your company is notability. Notability is how Wikipedia decides what things get a page. Most companies are not notable, being run of the mill. To be notable, you need significant coverage in multiple reliable and independent sources. That usually means articles in the Wall Street Journal or New York times, or other strong evidence of notability. If your company were notable, it is likely it would already have been written about in Wikipedia.
Having a Wikipedia article is also not always a good thing. If your company does something bad, its Wikipedia page will usually reflect that fact. Your company does not WP:OWN the article either. Anyone can edit it, not just you. Furthermore, many, many scandals have implicated companies that paid to whitewash their Wikipedia articles, which usually garners widespread press coverage and reflects very badly on the companies involved. An essay on why having a Wikipedia page is a mixed blessing can be read at WP:PROUD, although it is focused on articles about people, not companies. Coverage of ill-fated companies can be read at Conflict-of-interest editing on Wikipedia.
Lastly, Wikipedia does not exist to promote its subjects. Any article on a company must be neutral, and reviewers will scrutinize it intensely.
P.S. Don't forgot to sign your talk page posts by using four tildes "~", and make sure to indent your replies by using an increasing number of colons ":". Captain Eek Edits Ho Cap'n! 06:17, 10 January 2020 (UTC)

Sources

Can you helpme find more sources for Corky Boozé?Ndołkah☆ (talk) 08:17, 7 January 2020 (UTC)

Ndołkah, I did some looking, but I'm afraid I can't possibly save it from deletion. The opposition is quite strong, and the coverage quite scant. Of the coverage I could find, none rose to the level that would be required to satisfy the political notability guidelines. I know it sucks to have an article deleted, but take it as a lesson on keep moving forward. If you need any help in developing future articles, or finding sourcing for other things, please let me know. I'll help as much as I can. Captain Eek Edits Ho Cap'n! 06:50, 8 January 2020 (UTC)

Biography for Dr Albrecht Preusser by FZS001

Hello CaptainEek

Would you be a little more specific on what has to be added to the biography I previously submitted on Dr Albrecht Preusser. He is an engineer who has had algorithms accepted by the most prestigious journal in the field, published by the ACM, the professional society in the USA for computer scientists.

Dr Preusser falls under notability criteria 1, "The person's research has had a significant impact in their scholarly discipline, broadly construed, as demonstrated by independent reliable sources." Specifically, "Criterion 1 can also be satisfied if the person has pioneered or developed a significant new concept , technique or idea, made a significant discoveryor solved a major problem in their academic discipline. In this case it is necessary to explicitly demonstrate , by a substantial number of references to academic publication of researchers other than the person in question, that this contribution is indeed widely considered to be significant and is widely attributed to the person in question." "There are other considerations ...publications is especially prestigious and selective academic journals." eg the ACM journal which published Dr Preusser's material.

In other fields eg social sciences , education, economics, and others, there are no end of published articles for and against, by many authors commenting on a particular academics work. But it doesn't happen that way when mathematicians or engineers publish algorithms designed to solve particular mathematical problems. The test there is if a prestigious journal ( in the case the ACM ) decides to publish in the first place. The number of downloads of the algorithm over many decades add further proof of the outstanding nature of the work, as is the case with Dr Preusser's work. Which of Dr Preusser's references do you consider is not adequate for establishing this?

with thanks.....FZS001 FZS001 (talk) 08:32, 12 January 2020 (UTC)

FZS001, I'm not convinced that he meets Criteria 1. His H index is a mere 9, which is pretty poor considering that his career was long and is also over. Failing that, you need publications that specifically say things like "Preusser's work on Geodesy is considered the gold standard" or "His blahblah algorithim was groundbreaking". Merely being published is not enough. Nor is having something you made be downloaded a thousand times. Its possible such sourcing does not exist, and he is simply not notable. Also, the article tries too hard to make him seem important. Language such as "an independent and reliable publisher for important geodetic research results in Germany" is promotional. So is "the world’s largest scientific and educational computing society, and widely accepted as authority in the field", and that is also an unsourced claim. Hello CaptainEek,

First of all, thank you for your help -even if the page isn't approved, I really appreciate you gave me a hand here. As you told me, it could be helpful for the page review having at least 5 sources with a review of the game. Here are some reviews I've noted:

A classic review that covers different topics such as: embodiment, music, environment, levels and gameplay.

This article covers a major update of the game that added no fail mode and gameplay settings.

At this point the game was still in beta and had some flaws.

Eldan K, That you could find so many links is promising indeed! Now you need to actually add them to the article. You shouldn't use YouTube as a source, but the reviews in various websites should be enough. Every claim in the body of the article needs to be backed up by a reliable source. You should also add a "Reception" section to discuss reviews of the game. Captain Eek Edits Ho Cap'n! 06:21, 8 January 2020 (UTC)

Draft:Chukwunonso Ezekwueche

Hi, can you please take a look at the draft as it currently stands with the changes and new sources? Thanks in advance, regards, Tycheana (talk) 10:44, 15 January 2020 (UTC)

Tycheana, I'm afraid the sources are still insuffucient, and I'm afraid that the subject may not be notable. I think this may be WP:TOOSOON for this individual. Many of the sources are suspect, I get promotional vibes. Also the career section is written in a promotional tone. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 18:46, 15 January 2020 (UTC)
Hi CaptainEek, thanks for reviewing. If it is 'too soon', would it be better to delete the draft altogether and go for it at a later date? Thanks & regards, Tycheana (talk) 19:33, 15 January 2020 (UTC)

The Editor's Barnstar
First off, heartiest congrats on the huge success of your very first FAC. The first FAC can be a huge ordeal if not handled well, so I commend how well you have sailed through it. While reviewers might have helped you polish your work per the required standards, I believe the main editor(s) of the article deserve special praise for all the efforts they make in responding to each concern along with the general and often difficult job of expansion and cleanup of the article. Your FAC was a learning experience for me too, and most importantly a chance to get to know an awesome editor and appreciate their work (yeah, including all the stuff you help with apart from article expansion). Draft Stachit Rana

Hey CaptainEek!!

I had recently come up with an article about the aforementioned topic. I think you had reviewed it and recommended some changes. I have undertaken those changes and have sent it back for review. Would you be reviewing it again, or would it be a different person? I am new to Wikipedia so I am just getting used to it right now! Thanks for the help ( RVJ536 (talk) 19:02, 13 January 2020 (UTC) )

Thank you for your comment! Yes with regard to the inline citations, I will look into that and ensure that the appropriate citations are placed. The ref Abhilekhalya Shakha, Jangi Adda, Nepal Army Headquarters is actually the archives department of the Nepal Army. They gave me the digital scans of the documents related to Rana's military profile when I was undertaking my personal research. However, no of these files are digitised. I thought I would just give a general citation in its stead. — Preceding unsigned comment added by RVJ536 (talkcontribs) 19:26, 13 January 2020 (UTC)

RVJ536, I'm afraid that such sources may not be usable either. Wikipedia needs to use published secondary sources when possible. Archived documents of the army are a challenge, as they are likely not published, and also primary sources. Their use in an article should always be very limited. Secondary sources should be used overwhelmingly. The problem is that we as Wikipedians aren't in a place to verify the accuracy and authenticity of such documents. Now if there were a biography of Rana, the biographer would have been in a position to ascertain the veracity of such documents, and provide context. But we as Wikipedians can't do that, as it would be original research. Captain Eek Edits Ho Cap'n! 19:42, 13 January 2020 (UTC)

So these are archived documents per say. These are scans from the official military profile which have been compiled into a handbook of sorts. I guess I should directly cite this handbook instead right, rather than just the archive name- Would that help? Apart from the citations, would you see some other issues that might prove to be a barrier for publishing? I did keep in kind the neutral tone you had specified and have worked towards that-I hope its reading more precisely now. Thank you! ( RVJ536 (talk) 17:17, 15 January 2020 (UTC) ).

RVJ536 Ah yes you should cite the book. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 18:23, 15 January 2020 (UTC)

I have cited the book and have included some additional citations from various news websites, and other online sources (JSTOR articles). Please do have a look when you get the time. In case there are any other changes required, I would be more than willing to do so!

( RVJ536 (talk) 18:55, 15 January 2020 (UTC) ) RVJ536, That was a marked improvement! I will go ahead and approve the draft. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 20:08, 15 January 2020 (UTC)

Yes, it has gotten approved! Thank you for all the help and assistance Captain Eek!! It was a pleasure working with you. ( RVJ536 (talk) 21:05, 15 January 2020 (UTC)

Hey CaptainEek!

Sorry to be bothering you again- just had a question. Whilst the page has been published, it does not come up when I search for it on google. Even when I specifically search for the title followed by 'wikipedia', it only brings up other wikipedia articles which might have his name mentioned. Would there be any reason for that- or is that just a google algorithm? Also, I have made a point to put the link of the new page on related pages (List of Chief of Army Staff, Nepal etc.). However, the article is still marked as being 'orphan'. Would I need to do add another section on the new page (such as 'See Also') for this status to be removed?

Thanks a lot for the guidance and help! ( RVJ536 (talk) 01:11, 17 January 2020 (UTC) )

RVJ536, That is an issue with google, not us. While I have reviewed and patrolled the page so that it can be indexed by search engines, we do not control the speed at which search engines actually index pages. It could take a bit before google picks it up. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 01:27, 17 January 2020 (UTC)

Ari Rastegar Draft Page

Hi CaptainEek,

I noticed you recently reviewed the draft page for Ari Rastegar. I've gone through and trimmed a lot of the promotional content and excessive citations. I believe Rastegar meets WP:BIO and without the promotional tone, should be published to Wikipedia's mainspace. Thank you for your time. BossyAussie (talk) 17:26, 13 January 2020 (UTC)

BossyAussie, Howdy hello! Thanks for the cleanup there. I have resubmitted it on your behalf. However I am opting to not approve it myself, as I am not sure if the sources are enough to meet WP:BIO. While he has been written about in a number of places, a lot of it looks like native advertising to me. I will leave it to another reviewer. Captain Eek Edits Ho Cap'n! 20:07, 13 January 2020 (UTC)

American Crow

I was thinking a popular crow named American Crow would be suited to be an FA article, do you think you can fix and expand a little bit and it'll pass from FA nomination?. 14.34.81.14 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 07:48, 19 January 2020 (UTC)

Are you saying that you'd like to take it to FA, or that I should take it to FA? It is at GA status right now, but it was approved for GA way back in 2007. At this point, it would need a pretty comprehensive overhaul to check out all the sources, make sure everything has a citation, get the prose up to snuff, etc. I admittedly prefer to take poor quality articles up to FA, as that means I write most of the content and thus know its reliable and well sourced. If you wanted to team up with me to take American Crow to FA, I could be amicable, but I can't say I'm going to otherwise, as I have some other projects in mind first. West Newbury, Howdy hello! Feel free to ask any questions you have here, I'm always glad to help folks out. If I'm not around, you can also try the friendly Teahouse. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 19:46, 19 January 2020 (UTC)

Thanks CaptainEek! Specific questions for starters are

--On the Frances Keegan Marquis talk page you wrote, "This is probably good enough to take to Good article status if you are interested. If you'd like help in the process, leave a note on my talk page and I can guide you." I am interested in any and all means of learning the ropes and improving the article--pointers on what to remove, add, revise, make style-compliant, etc

--This is a bit weird but I'd like to avoid being accused of plagiarizing myself. As a member of West Newbury's Historical Commission, I've been doing a good amount of research and writing monthly one-page histories (mostly bios) of interesting events, places, characters, etc. in town. In the case of Julian Steele, the Wikipedia article went live in September and the WN Historical Commission version https://www.wnewbury.org/sites/westnewburyma/files/uploads/juliansteelestory1.pdf went up in this month. The same thing will happen with a February town version of the Frances Keegan Marquis story, with much language the same as her Wikipedia article. On the Julian Steele talk page I tried to explain the situation--is that what should be done? And does order of publication matter? For instance, I wrote a town history of Enoch Noyes https://www.wnewbury.org/sites/westnewburyma/files/uploads/noyesstory.pdf last August and that may morph into a Wikipedia article.

--I have a raft of other more general questions but will spare you and try the Teahouse :)

Thanks againWest Newbury (talk) 21:54, 19 January 2020 (UTC)

West Newbury, I refer to the Good Article process, whose criteria can be found here. The short of it is you need an article that is well sourced, well written, broad in its coverage, neutral, and illustrated by media if possible. Your article already seems to meet those requirements. Any specific issues could be dealt with in the good article process. On my brief look over, I would suggest copy-editing it. I would cut down on the number of quotes if possible, but keeping in mind that primary sources should be quoted if they cannot be summarized without original research. I would change the subheadings in the military service section to something more formal. Also the medal images form a WP:SANDWICH, I would try shifting their placement.
The guidance for using citations you wrote can be found at WP:SELFCITE. One thing I'd caution: anytime you cite yourself, make sure that your work is a reliable and independent source that has been published. I've not done much in this realm, so you may wish to ask that question at the Teahouse too, or get an opinion at the reliable sources noticeboard whether such sources are appropriate. I'm also not sure the copyright issues that might exist there, especially if you are using close paraphrasing of your work. Again, the Teahouse may have more answers than I do.
If you have other questions, or want help getting articles improved/approved, just drop a note! You seem to have a pretty solid grasp of content creation, so we're glad to have you around. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 01:07, 20 January 2020 (UTC)

Again, thanks for your timely & helpful comments CaptainEek!

I tried to follow your suggestions regarding Frances Keegan Marquis. As to "good" article status, with limited available time and attention (please, please forgive if this is rude) I am more interested in learning how to better contribute (and acting on that) than pursuing a formal nomination process and achieving some rank. I will, however, ask you for your take on upcoming articles, and act on suggestions from any knowledgeable person.

And I will try the Teahouse for clarification about the parallel town/Wikipedia articles, but to be clear I would never cite an informal town article in a Wikipedia article--it's the other way around. The reality that worries me is that there are two extremely similar stories out there.... West Newbury (talk) 13:22, 20 January 2020 (UTC)

The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Klepetan and Malena. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Klepetan and Malena), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Joining Eek's Crew (Adoption)

I'm a fairly new wikipedian as I've only had an account for a month, although I've been reading for quite some time. Saw your name on the accepting adoptees list and you seem like an all around wonderful captain. I am a professional at swabbing poop decks and am a graduate from the International Poop Deck Swabbing Academy (IPDSA). I plan to stick around for a long time- and I only wish I was here sooner. I recently just made an article, but I still need some navigating around the Sea of Wikipedia Articles. Have a wonderful day, Flalf. Flalf (talk) 01:30, 21 January 2020 (UTC)

Flalf, Howdy hello Flalf! I'd love to take ye into my crew. Finding qualified swabbies is bloody difficult in these waters, so glad that you come with a certification ;P If you could answer a few questions, that would help me to help you.
  1. What are your interests in terms of topic areas?
  2. What have you liked in editing so far?
  3. What would you do on Wikipedia?
  4. What would you like to get out of adoption?
Feel free to add the template Template:Adoptee on your userpage, which would look like {{Adoptee|CaptainEek}}. Smooth sailing, CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 04:19, 21 January 2020 (UTC)
I'm honored captain, here are my answers:
  1. I currently enjoy editing historical/political articles. Specifically I've found enjoyment editing articles on secessionists states.
  2. I edit whatever I find interesting or anything with a typo. So far though, most of my main edits are on Ambazonia, which still isn't in good of a state that I would hope it would be in. I have also created Volodymyr Bidyovka and Fongum Gorji Dinka, both of which are secessionist politicians in Donetsk and Ambazonia respectively.
  3. My goal on wikipedia is to increase the accuracy and quantity of articles, specifically I'd like to make more coverage on current events ::that aren't quite as well know.
  4. I would like help learning the ropes of wikipedia and figuring out exactly how the systems work, as many of the policies are very ::confusing. I would also like how to learn to be independent and to write well by myself.
Thank you so much again, Flalf. Flalf (talk) 13:09, 21 January 2020 (UTC)

draft:David Corke

thanks for feedback. Two editors now have said it looks like a resume rather than an encylopedia. Is it the lists of films/books that cause this impression? Would it be better if these were references rather than lists? I'm happy to improve the article but I need actionable feedback more than impressions or opinions. Thanks. Peter.corke (talk) 00:55, 24 January 2020 (UTC)

Peter.corke, Presenting it as prose, rather than a list, would help. Just bullet points is a resume, not an encyclopedia article. Also, probably not all of those points are relevant either. Only some ought be covered in an encyclopedia, though which ones I'm not sure. We should give things the weight the sources give them. If a source spends 80% on one film, we talk about that film more. Also, make sure you have a source for every claim. IMDb does not count. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 01:00, 24 January 2020 (UTC)

Captain! The article has been considerably changed. I would appreciate comments on the present form and actionable advice on how to improve further. Thanks. Peter.corke (talk) 09:57, 26 January 2020 (UTC)

Ahoy matey

Ahoy there, Captain Eek!! Top of the mornin' to ya!!! and how are ye this fine morning!! ah, the fresh salty sea air does a man's lungs good, I tell ye!!! I hope ye saw the flock of gulls off the portside bow. quite a stirring site on the open main!!

By the way, Captain, sorry about all the hammering belowdecks. me and the lads have been fixing up the aft wardroom, to provide a new workroom where the newer hosts can get their sea legs. it's quite a job. no sense in letting a bunch of landlubbers on deck before they've learned the difference between a belaying pin and a bollard!! we found a wardoom already set up, but it was no longer in use and was stricken from the active list. so me and the hands decided to set up a new one. it's not open to the whole ship's company yet, as we wanted to get the Captain's say-so before summoning all hands. could you please take a look and let me know what you think? thanks!!!

by the way, to get the scuttlebutt on this new assay, you can visit the quarterdeck in the section below. me and the officers have been having a palaver over some of the ins and outs. by the way I had to cut down on the sea lingo there. not all the crew has been to sea like you and I!! anyway, hope the new place is to your liking. I'm sure you'll give it the once-over with the eye of a real sea dog!! cheers matey!!

--Sm8900 (talk) 14:17, 28 January 2020 (UTC)

Sm8900, Thats a good page, I think it could be worth reviving. And I appreciate the sea-lingo, I think you've finally out-lingo'd me! CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 17:48, 28 January 2020 (UTC)
Aye, Cap'n. Glad it's to your liking!!! as far as the sea lingo, well....arrrggghhh!!! if we're going to have anything better than bilgewater in the lower deck to man the hansards and raise the jib, we'd best have a shipshape foredeck, and bosuns that know what they are about!! the hands will know what a trim mainsail looks like, or else I'm no first mate that ever strode a quarterdeck under the billowing stepsails of a merchantman on the Spanish Main!!! nothing is too good for Captain Eek and his loyal crewhands!! arrgggh!! avast matey!!!
all lingo aside... thanks!! --Sm8900 (talk) 17:53, 28 January 2020 (UTC)

Hi CaptainEek!! I am going to revert to my landlubber lingo for a moment. we have plenty of our own jargon here at Wikipedia, enough to go around! I wanted to ask, if you like the draft that I created for "Host Lounge," then could you please go view the discussion of this draft at the Teahouse Talk Page, and add your comments there? I really would like to get the Host Lounge page reinstated. I don't know of any other page that serves a similar purpose. i feel that we need one central resource page, that is able to serve as a genuine resource page, to help new Teahouse Hosts get fully oriented and up and running.

I think the page is a major and hugely beneficial resource to everyone in the Wikipedia community; so therefore, just imagine how much it could do even more, if we provide a readily-available easy-to-read help page, where newcomers could get oriented!! so could you please add any comments that you may have there? Obviously, my main goal is to build consensus towards getting the Host Lounge page re-activated, using the draft that I have provided. However, if you have any comments, feedback, or input, on any items you'd like to see added or revised on that page, then I'd welcome that as well.

Please feel free to comment, whenever you wish. thanks!!!

Note from a friendly IP

Hello, how are you, how did you go with the filmography for voice artist Margie Hines, i see you like the color Purple, it suits you!!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 1.42.102.44 (talk) 05:48, 29 January 2020 (UTC)

Howdy hello! I love purple a lot, thanks! If you'd like me to format a filmography, you'll need to get me a list of films in the first place. If you can get me a bulleted list of titles and dates, with any notes, I can turn it into a template no problemo. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 19:57, 29 January 2020 (UTC)

re Draft: Ann Mikolowski

Hi CaptainEek! I've revised. I feel confident about the substantive revisions. If tone or other adjustments are still needed, I'd appreciate hearing it from you, or someone, before I resubmit.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Ann_Mikolowski

I'm in the process of securing a license to use a photograph of the artist on the page. Waiting for file upload from photographer.

Thank you for your help! Rebeccamchung (talk) 22:23, 30 January 2020 (UTC)

Rebeccamchung, Very nicely improved! I have approved it from draft, and published it into the mainspace. You are free to keep working on it, and improving it. Some main points: as I have tagged, the article uses too many quotations, such quotations should be paraphrased in. Also, parts of the article remain too promotional or unencyclopedic. Saying that she was kind or warmhearted is better suited for an obituary. Wikipedia does not embellish its subjects, or paint them in a nostalgic light. We present a factual account. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 22:43, 30 January 2020 (UTC)

Thank you, CaptainEek! Will continue to revise and improve. You have a good eye and know how to make me see what you're seeing. Yay! Rebeccamchung (talk) 22:54, 30 January 2020 (UTC)

Ann Mikolowski is deceased, not a Living Person. There's a notice on the edit source section. How do I remove? Rebeccamchung (talk) 22:58, 30 January 2020 (UTC)

Rebeccamchung, I think I've dealt with it? If not, let me know. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 23:14, 30 January 2020 (UTC)
It has to do with how the assessment templates on the talkpage are formatted CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 23:15, 30 January 2020 (UTC)

regarding Margie Hines

i don't actually have a book about her as such, it is more likely snippets about her career would be including in a publication regarding the voice characters she played like Olive Oyl and Betty Boop, you could use IMDb for a list of films, although it may not dictate the final sources as it is not referenced, kind regards.

You may misunderstand: I can help you format things, but I've not the time to research the list myself. Film/Tv etc is not my main subject area, so while I'm familiar, I don't spend tons of time there. If you can come up with a list, I can help you format it. You seem to have a good idea of where to look luckily! IMDb shouldn't be used as a source on Wiki, you're right. But it can be used as a starting point. It should give you a list of films that you can then find other, better sources, for. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 04:43, 31 January 2020 (UTC)

Oh no, i didn't mean i expect you to do the work, because i am the one asking for the tabulated list, and i thank=you for your help as you are so nice — Preceding unsigned comment added by 1.43.229.8 (talk) 08:01, 31 January 2020 (UTC) Hello again, i actually did manage to find a very good site fleischerallstars.com/margie-hines.html, where there is a film list, and even some really good clips of where she sings. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 1.43.229.8 (talk) 08:27, 31 January 2020 (UTC)

Feedback (if possible)

Hello CaptainEek. I was hoping to possibly get some feedback on an article I created. It's currently in the queue to be reviewed and while waiting I wanted to see if there were any problems I missed and could fix by getting feedback from a few people. I'd hate to have it deleted over a simple mistake I could have fixed (or a big mistake I wasn't aware of making). The article is Bibliography of the Russian Revolution and Civil War. I'm sure you get a lot of requests, I understand you're busy and appreciate any time you can spare.   // Timothy :: talk  19:07, 31 January 2020 (UTC)

TimothyBlue, It is very nicely done, and I have reviewed it. I have no feedback at this time. Its length seems appropriate, I see no obvious formatting or other blunders, and the list seems to be neutrally compiled. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 19:38, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
CaptainEek Thank you for your help (and the Barnstar :) Have a wonderful day.   // Timothy :: talk  19:52, 31 January 2020 (UTC)

Sylvie Bornet

Hello!

I'm an educator working to have my freshman and sophomore students create pages on Wikipedia for missing female and African athletes. The page for Sylvie Bornet is a description of a French athlete who won the French national championship marathon title along with other first place finishes in international marathons, meeting the criteria for notability far more than other athletes on Wikipedia (such as a third string linebacker for a college football team). She already has a substantial page in the French Wikipedia. Part of the goal of several Wikipedia projects (the athletic project in particular) is to create English Wikipedia page for athletes who already have achieved notability status in French or Swahili (language of Kenya and Ethiopia) Wikipedias. We would appreciate your help in creating this page for a French National Championship Marathon Runner. Another part of the goal of this project is to have students see Wikipedia as a place where they can participate, write and collaborate. Many students currently have the idea that Wikipedia is the opposite: it is a place where they aren't supposed to add anything, touch anything, and that they don't belong unless they are technically elite. Thanks for all you do on this site, and please let me know if you have any questions.

Comm260 ncu (talk) 03:49, 1 February 2020 (UTC)

Comm260 ncu, Howdy hello! I would be glad to be of assistance. We're glad you're editing Wikipedia, and having your students do the same. We are the free encyclopedia that anyone can edit, and we're glad to get more folks involved! I sure wish my college professors had used Wikipedia in their assignments.
I see you've had a bit of a trial by fire, hope you'll excuse the mess :) With luck we can get you up to speed real fast, and make sure your students are making excellent content. You mention being busy during the semester, but over the summer you should definitely make sure to reach out to and engage with WikiEd. They have a lot of great resources, templates, and software built just for educators. They also have a staff that works with educators. I highly encourage you to work with them, they help coordinate tens of thousands of student editors every year.
For the Sylvie Bornet page I have made a few edits to clean things up, mostly formatting. The content seems solid though! For new editors, we care about content most, and can easily polish up formatting. As a teaching tool, you may wish to find Featured Articles and show them to students, so that they have an example to work from. FA's are our best work, and will follow our manual of style, writing and sourcing conventions, and other requirements, almost perfectly.
A technical note: I see that you've been moving pages out of draftspace into the mainspace. If you're going to do that, you may wish to become a reviewer at the Articles for Creation project Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation/Participants so that you can get access to the AfC helper script, which makes approving draft articles a breeze. It also gives tools to decline work with a variety of explanations, as well as some other handy features. Your account is still fairly new, so you might not get approved for it, but its worth a shot! If you don't do that, you'll need to make sure you cleanup the pages after you approve them, mainly remove the AfC template.
If you have other questions, want me to look at specific pages, etc., just leave a note here and I should get back to you within a day! Smooth sailing, CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 08:16, 1 February 2020 (UTC)
Goodness! This is wonderful. Thanks for your courteous and gracious reply, and thanks for helping the page out with a few edits! I have put it on my calendar to work through WikiEdu in the future. This has been fun, but much more work than a simple worksheet! Keep on the strong edits, my fellow shipmate.Comm260 ncu (talk) 03:04, 2 February 2020 (UTC)
