Over the years, Mario has appeared in more than 200 video games to date, both with starring and less significant roles. Here is a chronological list of licensed games that Mario has appeared.

  • Super Mario Bros. (Famicom/NES)
  • Wrecking Crew (Famicom/NES) stars Mario
  • Golf (NES) - United States release - features a fat version of Mario.
  • Tennis (NES) Mario is the referee
  • Pinball (NES) - US release - Mario is found in the bonus stage
  • Donkey Kong Jr. (NES) - European Union release -
  • Mario Bros. (ZX Spectrum)
  • Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! (Famicom/NES) Boxing referee.
  • Wrecking Crew (NES) - Europe release - stars Mario
  • Super Mario Bros. 2 (NES) - Europe and Australian Release -
  • Alleyway (Game Boy) Appears in bonus level, also drives/flies/controls the paddle on screen as shown in the intro
  • Donkey Kong Classics (NES) - European Union Release -
  • Super Mario Land (Game Boy)
  • Tetris (NES) Once player beats Level 9 Height 5, Mario and friends appear.
  • Tetris (Game Boy) Mario and Luigi appear in 2-player game.

Spin-off franchises

Additionally, supporting characters Wario, Donkey Kong and Yoshi have branched off into their own successful franchises, which other main characters such as Luigi, Toad and Princess Peach have also starred in their own games (Luigi's Mansion, Wario's Woods and Super Princess Peach).
