November 2016

Hello, I'm Zackmann08. Thank you for your recent contributions to Northwestern University Press. I noticed that when you added the image to the infobox, you added it as a thumbnail. In the future, please do not use thumbnails when adding images to an infobox (see WP:INFOBOXIMAGE). What does this mean? Well in the infobox, when you specify the image you wish to use, instead of doing it like this:

|image=[[File:SomeImage.jpg|thumb|Some image caption]]

Instead just supply the name of the image. So in this case you can simply do:

|image=SomeImage.jpg.

There will then be a separate parameter for the image caption such as |caption=Some image caption. Please note that this is a generic form message I am leaving on your page because you recently added a thumbnail to an infobox. The specific parameters for the image and caption may be different for the infobox you are using! Please consult the Template page for the infobox being used to see better documentation. Thanks! Buidhe Hello. Thank you for the encouragement. I'll do this. I think I can guess the answer to this, but I've checked the help menus without any luck. Do you know from experience or practice if I adding the author photo from the book jacket would be considered fair use? I know from experience that the publisher and author would probably be delighted--as long as someone else managed the perms. I'm in book publishing, and I have not ever been able to cajole an author or publisher to sort out the perms.

In the summary, I included the name of the photographer (Eric Allix Rogers) and the copyright holder (the NAES College Collection at Northwestern University Library), who made this image available under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License, a link to which I included in the summary (https://naes.info/credits/). What else do you need? You mention keying this same data into the "description." There is no description location on that page, altho there is a summary. You need to provide a source URL for the page where the image is displayed from https://naes.info/ because at this point, there is a permission statement that covers the material at the web site but there is no evidence that this image comes from that web site and is covered under that license. -- Whpq (talk) 17:56, 29 October 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for providing the source URL. I've removed deletion tagging now that there is a URL specified and license verified. I've also reformatted the summary information you provided into the standard information template. Feel free to adjust the wording if you feel my edits need tweaking. Wikimedia Commons is the preferred location for storing free images as it allows sister projects access to the image as well. I will be copying the file to Commons shortly. Do not be alarmed if you see the file is tagged for F8 deletion. That just means I've copied the image and there is no need for a local copy any more. Hi Nigetastic, you can search for Wikiprojects here, or use the links there to browse Wikiprojects. It can often be as quick to search for a similar article to the one you have created - e.g., in the case of Don Noble, following the link to University of Alabama, you can see in the infobox that its president has his own article - clicking through to that article's talk page, Talk:Stuart R. Bell, you can see several Wikiprojects there that would also obviously be appropriate for Don Noble's article. It's then a simple matter to copy the talk page header and relevant Wikiprojects to the talk page of the Don Noble article, just changing the relevant data in the various entries.
