RBOC map

Thank you for your time and effort to create the fair use rationale templates for all the logos on the RBOC map. I knew full well that that's really what needed to be done, but I wasn't feeling up to the task at the time I received the notice. As far as what license the map sans-logos should exist under, I have no idea; I honestly don't care. Whatever the copyright gurus feel is best is fine with me. Thanks.—Lazytiger (Talk | contribs) 03:05, 18 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I saw the fair use rationale in the article and didn't notice the missing article name. Good catch, I would have hated to see it wind right back up into the Images deleteion queue. DJBullfish (talk) 03:20, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

re:UK school stubs

Thanks for the explanation. If I had looked below the map I would have seen the subcategories. My first mistake was to try to choose a category from Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Stub types/Education thinking that it was a complete list. I didn't see Scotland there (which now makes sense) so I thought that UK was the closest and didn't stop to think that it had subcategories. I learned something. Thanks. Another editor has added the "prod" template to the article Cloverly Elementary School, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the prod template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Hi Dbiel!

I noticed you were a member of WikiProject Education, and thought you might be interested in WikiProject Homeschooling. In this "WikiProject," we have been together working on the collaboration of Homeschooling-related articles. As a member, I really hope you can join, and let me know if you need any help signing up or with anything else. If you have any questions about the project you can ask at the project's talk page. Rollback given

I have given you rollback because I believe you will do well helping to revert vandalism. Remember, rollback is not to be used in content disputes or on good-faith edits. You can test your rollback here. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me. Happy editing! bibliomaniac15 I see no changes 04:55, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Category for Educational Activities of Clubs

You removed "Education" as a category from The Gardeners of America/Men's Garden Clubs of America. Is there another category that I can add to the article indicating that TGOA/MGCA engages in activities to educate the public about gardening and landscape topics? Thanks, Lou (talk) 20:06, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have rechecked Category:Education and I am unable to find any category it would fit into. If you would like to do some more research yourself, I would start with Category:Horticultural organizations and see what additional categories are used by similar articles. Additionally you may want to post your question at Wikipedia:Village pump (assistance) or possibly Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Categories. I am still trying to learn the many features of Wikipedia myself.
But in any case, the article definately does not belong in the parent category Category:Education. Please remember that the primary purpose of categories is to group similar articles together. Dbiel (Talk) 01:59, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't find another category that represents "educating the public about gardening". But I decided to add two new categories, Category:Urban agriculture and Category:Community building to try to cover both "gardening education" and "community beautification". These categories seem to be used in other articles for the same purpose. TGOA/MGCA also uses gardening to educate children about the natural world, and as therapy for both young and old. I considered using Category:Therapy for the latter case, but decided that wouldn't work. Do you have any other suggestions? Thanks! Lou (talk) 20:11, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry that I didn't see your comments to Bpeps and indeed thanks for replying. I have certainly left the project under my old username. Truth be known, I have never needed to see user rights logs before (things like blocks are generally self evident by history logs) and VP (If I had it) flags warnings and blocks on user pages.

I actually thought I was doing good. Aggressive Behaviour is not a stigma which I want to carry around with me. My behaviour was bad. It was reported to WP:ANI and I stopped. I wasn't blocked, it wasn't a disruption of mainspace, I apologised and imposed a (albeit) self inposed bar on contacting the editor without firm grounds.

I requested a deletion of my user page because I really didn't understand the hostility which had surrounded me during the last 15 weeks. I would have left long before if I had have known. Stigma like agression is best played by editors with a thick skin. I don't have one and the whole thing has left me feeling very ashamed. Trust is essential as you pointed out. Stigma is very hard for editors to cast off. 172.200.5.68 (talk) 19:36, 25 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I would hope that you would not leave Wikipedia over this. Your recent edits indicate that you are a good contributor. Based on what you have written, I would suggest simply creating a new user name and starting over. The only drawback is that you will have to build a new history of edits before rollback would be granted again and you could apply for other tools like VandalProof. There is nothing wrong with starting over with a clean slate.Dbiel (Talk) 19:46, 25 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Really Need Help!!!!!!!!

Hello Dbiel, it has been awhile since we have communicated. I really need your help. There is this user Maurice45, who has been deleting a lot of info from the articles. He has removed plot/concept of many of the television series because (the reason he writes for removing info) he says that this is all fairy tale. Well a plot/cocept is a necessary part of the television program to let viewer know what the story is about, but this user has deleted from many pages and doesn't stop. For example, following are some of the pages that he removed info from which was edited by a lot of users: Kesar, Kahiin To Hoga, Bhabhi, and many more. Can you please do something to stop this user from vandalizing!!!!!!!!!!! Please! Please! I will be really thankful for your help and your precious time. Your old wiki friend Survir (talk) 15:02, 14 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have done some review, and at this time I do not see much that I can do. I will post a notice on his user page. I suggest that you also review the following: Wikipedia:Plot summaries Be careful not over expand the plot. Try to keep it as a concise summary. Remember that you can revert his edits if you think that they are inappropriate. Just try not to get into an edit war. Dbiel (Talk) 03:17, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

They are only considered acceptable when they are of a certain length and quality. Certain plot summaries are overly long, contain POV and other unacceptable materials. Please take some time and review them --Maurice45 (talk) 10:11, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sure I don't mind explaining. I use the move method for two reasons: it's what I've always used and it results in watching the moved talk - this way, if someone vandalizes a talk archive, someone might notice. You claimed that the copy and paste method is "normal," but I don't understand what you mean by that. Thanks for the post. It was something I thought I could fix but this need the help of an administrator. About.com

helpme Is the domain about.com considered an acceptalbe External Link for use in Wikipedia? See diff As blogs are not considered acceptable, I am not sure if about.com fits in that category (as it is not technically a blog, but it is not a valid notable source either) as many of its links are back to Wikipedia. The displayed title of the line "Learning Disabilities on About.com provides information and resources on learning disabilities for ages ranging from early childhood through adulthood." does make it clear where it comes from. This is not a article specific question but a Wikipedia wide question, since if about.com is considered an acceptable external link source, then the use in this article is more than appropriate, but it should be moved to the bottom of the list, not the first entry, which I will do now. Dbiel (Talk) 01:24, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As far as I understand it, about.com is typically a mirror of other sites (sometimes including Wikipedia). It might be preferred to link to those other sites directly in some (most?) circumstances, if the relevant content is worth linking. Leaving this helpme open for more response, but feel free to close it if you like. – Luna Santin (talk) 01:35, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've yet to see any about.com content that's a mirror. If it's not mirrored, I'd say it's acceptable; the site seems to be extensive and reliable enough. Ten Pound Hammer and his otters(Broken clamshellsOtter chirps) 01:59, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your work with template|WP:schools

I do have a question about a few other changes to be a bit more consistant with other similar templates see User:Dbiel/Category:Schools in the United States by state/work page#Templates for comparision for some examples. I am specificly talking about category pages and WikiProject GeorgiaUS seems to be one of the best I have seen so far. One additional change, not included in WikiProject GeorgiaUS Is to change the first sentence from This article is part... to This page is part... but I know that would require a major amount of programing, but the other change should not be that difficult for someone used to working on templates, but I could be wrong, as I am not one of those individuals. Thank you again for your assistance. Dbiel (Talk) 02:44, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Education by country

Now that we have enough articles to support more templates, Education by country has been deprecated in favor of continental templates, which don't add articles to this category. It doesn't make sense to have all the individual articles listed in Category:Education by country when they are in their respective national categories, which are themselves in Category:Education by country. I only changed the education by country template because it was on a project page, and its presence was making the project page go into the category too. Mangostar (talk) 05:14, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't really mind putting it back or leaving it as it is, as long as the project pages aren't in a mainspace category. Mangostar (talk) 05:16, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Request for Good Article Review

Hello,

You were very helpful in the past and I was hoping you could take a look at Operation USA and help me to get it accepted as a good article, or at least point out what would prevent it from being a good article.

Best regards, Wattssw (talk) 09:24, 12 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I reviewed the article and it looks fairly good to me. I made two minor edits to the opening section. I have two suggestions regarding additional changes. 1) It does not seem to have an ending section. It just comes to an abrupt end at Film and Theater Projects I am no expert in what makes a good article, and after looking at some of the featured articles, it appears that they also lack any ending section, so the suggestion to add one may not be correct; but I personally think it would make for a better article. 2)Linking of retrieved dates in the references section is something I do not like, BUT after reviewing a few featured articles it seems to be the current style, so I would not change it at this time. The next step to me would be for you to review the following page Wikipedia:Peer review and follow its advise. It looks like a fairly good article to me and I found it interesting reading. Sorry I can not be of any more assistance as I am not qualified in the area of article review. I wish you success in your endevours. PS since I failed to look at the talk page prior to writing this, I notice that you have already posted a good review request tag. One last thing I would suggest, if you have not already done so, is to double check each of the reference links for validity and accuracy. Dbiel (Talk) 17:12, 12 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have spent some more time reviewing the article and making a few copy edits. I have also created a good review page and added my comments there. The one major change that needs to be made is to change the date format used in the referece links to get rid of the red links, see the article talk page Talk:Operation USA Dbiel (Talk) 18:41, 12 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I did only copy the rating from the other projects listed on the talk page. After a good look at the article, It is definately a C-class article. For it to get B-class, we would probably need to improve the lead, expand a few of the sections (eg. history) and remove the mission statement section. Good spot. Have ammended the rating. I know this is a minor point, but I noticed your reversion a few days ago of an edit by ArdClose to Moses in which the former changed "practice" to "practise". In British English, as well as the written English of most other countries excluding the USA, the correct spelling of the verb is "to practise". The Wikipedia article Practice refers to the noun rather than the verb, so is not relevant. The most Wikipedia's policy has to say on the issue is that it doesn't really matter, though I suppose you could use the same argument to say that ArdClose's edit was unnecessary. But then, so was reverting it. Robin S (talk) 01:52, 23 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your speedy reply. I was mostly curious to see whether there was something that I had missed, either in general policy or pertaining to this particular case; I have noticed that edits like ArdClose's (and, often, subsequent revisions) are very common, regardless of the prevailing use in the article, and am never really sure what to do about them. Hi. :) Thanks for pointing out the problem at LAMBDA School of Music and Fine Arts, here. I've removed the infringement, left a note at the article's talk page and warned the contributor. I would like to point out to you, though, that per the instructions we are supposed to tag copyright infringing pages with the copyvio template. There's a good reason for this, as it not only tells contributors how to properly contribute but also (and more importantly) reduces the risk of the infringement being mirrored on other sites. Once we have discovered a copyright infringement, we can't continue to publish it. While articles which are speedily deleted for copyright concerns are not blanked, articles which are listed at WP:CP are not closed for a full seven days, during which if we continue to display the suspect text we may be liable of contributory infringement. Obviously, since this article is handled, this is an FYI for future discoveries. :) Again, thanks for finding that issue and helping keep Wikipedia in the copyright clear. :D --Moonriddengirl (talk) 12:26, 31 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Just add |category= as a parameter to exclude the category. Cheers, WODUP 04:38, 4 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the correction

Thanks for the correction. I can never keep the syntax of all the different templates straight. It does seem strange that they require completely typing out the full month name. It probably too difficult to make them accept Sept, September or just 9. Perhaps I should just leave them blank and let the bots put in the dates. -- SamuelWantman 06:11, 4 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your welcome. I know what you mean. I would agree with you that it is easier to just let to bots add the date to the tags. Dbiel (Talk) 19:29, 4 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Article 'Jayen varma'...The Title is to be disappeared along with the page

Yes, there is a language problem...between me and you all. Now your question is "whether The page would have to be deleted and then protected from being recreated. Is this what you are asking to be done with the Jayen Varma article?". Yes that is what I am asking to be done as a permanent solution. Otherwise, people will come up and write in it again and again. In this case I, Jayen Varma, am the affected party. So its my earnest request to delete the page, along with the title 'jayen varma' and then protect it from being recreated anywhere in Wikipedia. I mean the Title 'Jayen varma' should also be deleted Thanks and regards--Jayenvarma (talk) 08:07, 7 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Temple City CA Seal.gif)

Thanks for uploading Image:Temple City CA Seal.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 06:31, 1 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

User:75.66.103.144

How should the edits by User:75.66.103.144 be handled? edits are to add articles to the non-existant categories such as Category:Fictional Christians and Category:Fictional Protestants Is it a valid category that should be created, or should the edits all be reversed? The reason I picked up about the poster image in the example infobox so quickly...

...was because I almost made the same mistake myself a few days ago, but managed to catch it before I pushed the save button. Frankly, I have some question about why that particular poster is PD, but that's a different problem! Best, Ed Fitzgerald t / c 22:21, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

An article is tough than music

To Mr.Dbiel, This is to personnally thank you for guiding us to make the writings about jayen varma look like an article. We thank all editors and administrators here. Writing an article in good quality is harder than playing music. We have been doing it just like you guided us. God.. we are tired. Please make any corrections if needed. May God bless you... thank U..for all the help!!!!!!!! !----Fansfans123 (talk) 03:03, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanx

Dear Mr.Dbiel, We thank U for the guidance in editing the article placed by us earlier. Many people appreciated the present edit. We read ur profile. Great person you are and you re contributing so much to the world of knowledge. May God bless you. we do not want to go for any more edits in wikipedia in any articles in WP, because that may lose the beauty of articles, since we are unaware of article placing and proper editing. But we shall bring to your notice if we find any false matter is found placed by anyone in the music category. We respect you . Our bassist really appreciated you, all the editors and administrators and WP's rules after reading the article. Thanks --Fansfans123 (talk) 01:27, 12 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I reverted because the information was unsourced. Unfortunately IMDB isn't considered a WP:RS because its information is submitted by users and not subject to fact-checking, so I'm going to have to remove the information again. — Malik Shabazz (talk · contribs) 04:38, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

I don't think there's a consensus concerning whether IAFD is a RS (see Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Pornography#Reliable sources). Sorry I didn't check to see that much of the same information that's at IMDB is also at IAFD. I'll restore it. Sorry. — Malik Shabazz (talk · contribs) 05:02, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

Dodo

I reverted the inclusion of the category Megafauna because the person who did it is apparently on a campaign to stick literally every single page about any animal over 44 lbs into category Megafauna. You mind if we put category Raphinae into Megafauna, rather than just Dodo?--Mr Fink (talk) 13:57, 26 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I follow you logic and it makes sense to me. Thanks for pointing it out Dbiel (Talk) 14:53, 26 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I tried to explain to this person that sticking every page featuring animals over 44 lbs into Category: Megafauna would make it too broad and or too arbitrary to be useful. Personally, I want to reorganize it by putting in only all of the relevant taxon categories, i.e., Panthera instead of Felidae+lions+tigers+bearcats+housecats, etc.--Mr Fink (talk) 02:18, 27 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I would agree with turning the category into a Parent Category. Keep up the good work. Dbiel (Talk) 12:28, 30 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding the NCCC page

So headings should never be linked? Wjwetzel (talk) 02:52, 2 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wjwetzel (talk) 04:10, 2 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not get hung up with the thought "I cant seem to get wiki right" Wikipedia is very easy to edit, but that is a lot to learn to be able to do it correctly. It simply takes time to learn it. And the best way to learn is trial and error. So keep up the good work and keep learning as you go. You are off to a very good start. Dbiel (Talk) 04:17, 2 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

PLease Look in to it

Sir, We see that the article Jayen Varma is seen edited now by someone else. Please make sure if it has been edited by the WP editors or by some unknown persons. Thanks and Regards. --Fansfans123 (talk) 12:26, 4 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Reply - regarding the edits by other users; there really is no such thing as WP editors, anyone is permitted to edit any article so long as the edits themselves comply with the Wikipedia policies. As time permits, I will review the edits in more detail and see what I can do to improve the article. Dbiel (Talk) 20:24, 4 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Regarding the MySpace link removal, see the following note:
Note that under WP:External links#What_should_be_linked, a link to a social networking site may be included when it is the official website for a business, organization, or person.
I took a look at both the MySpace entry: http://www.myspace.com/jayenvarma and the official web page http://www.jayenvarma.net It would be easier to add it back if there was a direct reference to the myspace page on the jayevnarma.net web site, rather than just the general reference to myspace.com Do you think he would be willing to change his web site to provide a link to the actual myspace.com page? I will continue to review the article as time permits. Dbiel (Talk) 21:19, 4 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thats alright

Yes we understand what you say. Thanx a lot. There is a link of myspace in his website http://www.jayenvarma.net . The "MYSPACE" in the website is the link to the site. So We wud appreciate if the website jayenvarma.net reamins there in the article, if the WP policies dont permit sites such as myspace etc. We know that you re busy and sorry for making the request. We will add as many informations in sand box Fansfans123/Jayen Varma. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Fansfans123/Jayen_Varma . So that you can varify with that.... thanx and regards...--Fansfans123 (talk) 04:45, 5 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not feel bad for making the requests, the fact that I am busy is pointed for the single purpose to help you understand why I may not be able to deal with it as quickly as you might expect. Feel free to post your questions and requests at any time, just be a bit patient if I do not respond right away.
I see that the link to myspace has been added (or did I just not see it the first time I looked?) to jayenvarma.net so I restored the entry in the Wikipedia article. I will work on the other issues as time permits. Thanks for your patience. Dbiel (Talk) 05:17, 5 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

We have just added few facts and informations in the sand box giving due respect to the changes already made earlier by others. Pl see the link below and see if these are acceptable as per the wikipedia rules. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Fansfans123/Jayen_Varma Thankyou for all the help.
