Tony La Russa is the current manager of the Cardinals.

The St. Louis Cardinals are a baseball franchise based in St. Louis, Missouri. They are members of the Central division of Major League Baseball's National League.[1] The Cardinals franchise was formed in 1882.

There have been a total of 62 different managers for the Cardinals. Ned Cuthbert became the first manager of the then St. Louis Browns in 1882, serving for one season. Charles Comiskey became the first manager who held the title of manager for the Cardinals for more than one season. The franchise underwent several managerial changes in the 19th century, including three terms by Charles Comiskey and owner Chris von der Ahe. The franchise was officially renamed the St. Louis Cardinals in 1900. Since then the management has become more stable, and the Cardinals have won 10 World Series championships. The longest tenured manager in Cardinals history is current manager Tony La Russa, who has led the team since 1996. La Russa also leads Cardinals managers in wins and losses. Billy Southworth is the manager that led the Cardinals to the most playoff appearances. Of the Cardinals managers, Comiskey, Tommy McCarthy, Roger Connor, Kid Nichols, Roger Bresnahan, Miller Huggins, Branch Rickey, Rogers Hornsby, Bill McKechnie, Southworth, Frankie Frisch, and Red Schoendienst have all been inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.[2]

In 1883, Cuthbert was replaced by Ted Sullivan (baseball). The Cardinals made their first unofficial playoff appearance under Comiskey in 1885. Hornsby, Frisch, Gabby Street, Eddie Dyer, Southworth, Johnny Keane, Schoendienst, and LaRussa have all won a modern World Series with the Cardinals, with Southworth winning two. The highest winning percentage of any manager who managed at least one season was Comiskey, with a percentage of .685. The lowest percentage by a manager was Arlie Latham in 1896, although he managed for only 3 games. The lowest percentage of a manager with at least one season with the Cardinals was Tim Hurst, the manager in the 1898 season with a percentage of .260.
