An Invite to join Aviation WikiProject

Hi, you are cordially invited to join the Aviation WikiProject! We're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to aviation. This includes aircraft, airports, airlines and other topics.

As you have shown an interest in British European Airways Flight 284 we thought you might like to take an interest in this new WikiProject.
We look forward to welcoming you to the project! Canglesea (talk) 17:00, 23 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article Cubana de Aviación Flight 310 has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Spelling

Hey, you should seriously give some thought to writing all your contibutions using Microsoft Word, spell-checking and then copying and pasting to Wikipedia. Your spelling is terrible. 210.15.195.87 (talk) 06:26, 4 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have nominated Cubana de Aviación Flight 310, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Cubana de Aviación Flight 310. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

I disagree with the nom, and have said so. I've made a few slight alterations to the article too. I've had a look at some of your other articles. The main problem seems to be referencing. You should get into the habit of naming references and using the {{cite web}} template. If you need any help, give me a shout. Mjroots (talk) 21:01, 4 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • I am removing the PROD on this article because I do not concur with the rationale made for deletion. WP:BEFORE was not considered. That said, this article needs 4 specific improvements if it has any hope of surviving an inevitable AfD if they are not made. I am suggesting to editors familar with the subject to make these improvements as soon as practical.
    • Strengthen the lead-in paragraph by including clear, concise inclusion criteria and a description of what this list is really about. Add appropriate in-line citations and wikilinks in the lead-in to leave the reader with no doubt where this information came from and what entries meet inclusion criteria.
    • For every entry that meets the inclusion criteria that you establish in the lead-in, add a phrase or sentence to that entry that provides additional context for that entry. One of the most powerful attributes of a well annotated list is the ability to provide additional and meaningful context for list entries. Lists that are well annotated will never be redundant to categories because categories provide no context what-so-ever for category entries. This list demonstrates the idea Small mammals of Yellowstone National Park
    • For every entry that is red-linked (no article) you must provide an inline citation to validate its presence in the list. For wiki-linked entries, adding an in-line citation that indeed verifies the entry meets inclusion criteria and that annotations are verifiable, does nothing but improve the overall quality of the list.
    • Instead of organizing the list in a purely alphabetical or chronological way, consider whether or not you can create sub sections that further enhance the understanding of the inclusion criteria. For example you could separate entries by terrorist group, then sub-divide chronologically.
  • I am not familar with nor an expert on the nuances of Irish terrorism, so these are improvements I can only suggest, but not undertake. If you have any specific questions, let me know. Good Luck--Mike Cline (talk) 15:25, 27 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Concerns about your edits

G'day from Oz. I see that you have left a message on Canglesea's talk page because you are concerned that an article you have created will be deleted. I believe that it won't because it meets the criteria for inclusion, however several articles created by you have in fact been deleteed as they did not meet the criteria. On the other hand, several of the articles you have created clearly warrant a WP article.

Can I suggest that before you create more articles you familiarise yourself with the relevant criteria and/or limit yourself to creating articles concerning accidents to large jet aircraft that result in fatalities - these at least will always meet the criteria. Can I also suggest that, instead of continually creating articles, you go back to revisit the ones you have already started and help in fixing them up. For one thing, your spelling and grammar are just awful - perhaps you could sit down with someone else at your computer and s/he could read through the stuff you write and help you to fix it up. You should also learn to reference articles correctly. Hope this helps, cheers. YSSYguy (talk) 23:28, 3 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your spelling

Hello again, I just want to point out some of your spelling mistakes.

  • Your spelling: "non" as in "non of the passengers were killed"; the correct spelling is "none".
  • Your spelling: "whether" as in "the whether was bad", the correct spelling is "weather". "Whether" is a different word.
  • Your spelling: "curt" as in "curt fire", the correct spelling is "caught".
  • Your spelling: "bored" as in "on bored the aircraft", the correct spelling is "board".
  • Your spelling: "whet" as in "the aircraft whet into a stall", the correct spelling is "went".
  • Your spelling: "nots" as in "speed of 140 nots", the correct spelling is "knots".
  • Your spelling: "were" as in "were the aircraft stopped", the correct spelling is "where".
  • Your spelling: "privet" as in "privet aircraft", the correct spelling is "private".
  • Your spelling: "Febuary", the correct spelling is "February".

YSSYguy (talk) 01:33, 10 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Your spelling: "happed", as in "the crash happed near Heathrow Airport", the correct spelling is "happened"
  • Your spelling: "their", as in "their were 50 passengers", the correct spelling is "there".
  • Your spelling: "there", as in "the passengers were trapped in there seats", the correct spelling is "their".

How about you spend some time revisiting some of the articles you have created and fixing up the spelling.

YSSYguy (talk) 22:05, 20 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Your spelling: "takes", as in "takes were empty", the correct spelling is "tanks".

Please use a spell checker. Many current web browsers have one built in. --A More Perfect Onion (talk) 14:51, 22 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Your spelling: "bust", as in "bust into flames", the correct spelling is "burst".

You are also frequently mis-typing the word "approach", I have seen you render it as "apporach" and "appraoch".

As Dennis the Tiger suggests, slow down. Read your edits carefully before saving; some of your recent edits have been quite good but your work on the Scandinavian Airlines Flight 871 article had the same problems as previously noted. YSSYguy (talk) 04:32, 27 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dude! Slow down!!

Ryan, I'm going to dissent slightly from Onion and suggest you use a spell checker to supplement what you've been doing, as they can only do so much. (EG: "I use spell check", if one is not attentive to their work, may come out as "Eye ewes spiel czech" - sounds the same thanks to the wonderful world of homonyms, but that second sentence makes no sense whatsoever.) It is extremely important that not only words are spelled correctly, but that the correctly spelled words are the correct words to begin with. Case in point, above: privet, to use one example, is spelled right, but has little to do with anything private.

Moreover, in American Airways Flight 1, I spotted numerous syntax errors. Misuse of "their" (should be "there"), multiple uses of the word "caption" where it should be "captain", "tolled" (past-tense of toll) instead of "told" (past-tense of tell), "mints" (candy) instead of possibly "minutes" (measure of time), and in the accident summary, a combination sentence fragment and run on sentence.

Forgive my bluntness, but your work, in short, needs some serious attention.

I think that, more than merely using a spell checker, you simply need to slow down and watch your work. Go for quality rather than quantity. This is not a race to create articles - the number of articles you create means little if the quality is not up to snuff. We would rather you make a small number of high quality edits than a large number of mediocre edits.

Hey, Ryan, an additional thought: how are you inputting your text? Are you using voice recognition, or are you using a keyboard? --Dennis The Tiger (Rawr and stuff) 15:37, 22 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The {{inuse}} template means that someone is editing the article and requests that other editors do not edit it while it is displayed to prevent edit conflicts. A tag has been placed on Transport disasters in Bermuda requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, a rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content. You may wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Aircraft accident articles

I keep seeing in the articles that you create, that you include information that is not mentioned in the references. Is this because you are getting info from other sources and not providing references, or are you just making stuff up? You also need to look at the references you use more carefully, as some of the information you include in the articles is contradicted by the references. Dan-Air Flight 045 is a good example; you stated that the aircraft went into the North Sea, but the accident report states that the aircraft stopped in mud beside the runway. And Please, be more careful with your spelling, it is just as bad as ever. YSSYguy (talk) 07:28, 30 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Created articles

Hello Ryan kirkpatrick and thanks for your contributions to the encyclopedia, as you can see from the messages a lot of the articles you create are not deemed to be notable and others need a lot of corrections particularly spelling and badly formed English. Can I ask before you create an article please check that it meets our standards of notability, it may be worth asking other editors if the subject is notable before you create it. Can I ask you also to be take care with spelling, it may be that your first language may not be English in which case you may need to use a spell checker or get somebody else to help with the spelling and English grammer. Although all contributions are welcome your articles are creating a lot of extra work for other editors, so if you are not sure if you should be creating the article then please check by leaving a message at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Aviation. Perhaps you should consider creating the articles in a sandbox like User:Ryan kirkpatrick/sandbox and inviting other editors to check your work. So please consider these points and if you have any questions then please ask at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Aviation. Thanks. MilborneOne (talk) 19:59, 15 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Loganair Flight 670

Hello Ryan kirkpatrick, this is a message from an automated bot to inform you that the page you created on May 17 2010, Loganair Flight 670, has been marked for speedy deletion by User:220.253.107.94 (page has mainspace links, and 11 edits). This has been done because the page is unquestionably a copyright infringement, and no assertion of permission has been made (see CSD). Please do not add original research or novel syntheses of previously published material to our articles as you apparently did to List of terrorist incidents, 2010. Please cite a reliable source for all of your information. Thank you.

Kindly do not add incidents where the source says "Ferguson called the blast an "isolated incident" and said it was unlikely that the explosion was related to terrorism", or for that matter any other incident which is not sourced as "terrorism". O Fenian (talk) 21:05, 22 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Citing references

I have noticed that you seldom cite references in the articles you create, or the articles you edit; then on the rare occasions that you do cite a reference you do not cite the correct access date, such as your recent edits to List of terrorist incidents, 2000. This potentially gives a misleading impression to readers of the article. As for the air crash articles you create using only a couple of sources, you don't bother to cite references at all. See this edit I made to Grand Canyon Airlines Flight 6 and the later version of 1936 KLM Croydon accident for two different ways of citing references. You could also use the method that you used in List of terrorist incidents, 2000 (filling in the rest of the info such as the author and article/publication title) - there are several different ways to cite references. Once again, I suggest you get someone else to read what you write before you click 'save page', or as MilborneOne suggested use a Sandbox and have someone look at your work there; it would save a lot of work for other editors. Please stop. If you continue to violate Wikipedia's no original research policy by adding your personal analysis or synthesis into articles, as you did to List of terrorist incidents, 2010, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. You have once again added an incident which is unsourced as terrorism, and not only that you have failed to even read the article you are using as a source. Please stop being disruptive and only add incidents which have been described as terrorism and not every incident where a bomb explodes. Thank you. O Fenian (talk) 09:41, 25 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

As you have been asked many times before, do not add examples to this article unless they are clearly acts of terrorism. You are well past the point of claiming these are innocent errors. ---RepublicanJacobiteThe'FortyFive' 13:32, 3 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your response aptly demonstrates the exact nature of one of the problems with your editing. Wikipedia is not interested in which incidents you personally think are terrorist incidents, it is interested in incidents which reliable sources have called terrorism. ---RepublicanJacobiteThe'FortyFive' 14:04, 3 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. We welcome and appreciate your contributions, including your edits to List of terrorist incidents, 2010, but we cannot accept original research. Original research also encompasses novel, unpublished syntheses of previously published material. Please be prepared to cite a reliable source for all of your information. Thank you. I can't see the point of adding random criminal acts to the above article. Especially since you go to the bother of citing them.

I don't understand your logic in the additions you've made to this article. WikiuserNI (talk) 00:03, 6 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please be more careful

You need to lift your game across WP, not just in the list of terrorist incidents articles. In your recent edit to Air France accidents and incidents you have made several very careless errors. I have highlighted the errors and made comments:

  • On 2 September 1946, a Douglas DC-3 (registration F-BAXD) lost height after taking off from Paris – Le Bourget Airport on a flight to Croydon Airport and crashed onto a factory. The accident killed 19 of the 26 passengers and crew on board the DC-9 [incorrect aircraft type] and one person was killed on the ground. http://aviation-safety.net/database/record.php?id=19460904-0 [not properly referenced]
  • On 14 March 1947, a Douglas DC-3 (registration F-BAXO) crashed into Mont Moucherolles near Châteaubernard on a flight from Lyon-Bron Airport to Nice Côte d'Azur Airport. The crash killed all 23 on board the aircraft. [no reference]
  • On 6 January 1948, a Douglas DC-3 (registration F-BAXC) crashed near Gonesse as the flight was on apporach [incorrect spelling] to Paris – Le Bourget Airport after a flight from Brussels Airport. The accident killed all 16 on bored [incorrect spelling] the DC-3. http://aviation-safety.net/database/record.php?id=19480106-0 [not properly referenced]
  • On 1 August 1948, a Latécoère 631 (registration F-BDRC also named Lionel de Marnier)on [no space] a flight from Martinique Aimé Césaire International Airport on the island of Martinique to Nouadhibou International Airport in Mauritania. The flying boat crashed into the Atlantic Ocean killing 52 passengers and crew on baord [incorrect spelling] cuase [incorrect spelling] of crash unkown. [incorrect spelling] [also very poor grammar, in this case a lack of punctuation] http://aviation-safety.net/database/record.php?id=19480801-1 [not properly referenced]

In this one relatively small edit you have made five spelling mistakes, these being your extremely-common misspellings of "board" (which you have actually managed to twice spell correctly in this edit), "approach", "cause" and "unknown". You have as yet not shown any attempt to be more careful with your spelling, despite numerous requests to do so. In addition I can only find one edit where you revisited an article you created or edited and fixed a spelling mistake; this despite the fact that the only articles that you have created that did not contain large numbers of spelling mistakes were copy-and-paste copyright violations that have been deleted because of this. You have demonstrated by your edits to terrorism-related articles that you know how to reference properly, but you never do this in the aviation-related articles (the edit above being a prime example). This has now been pointed out to you several times and I can only conclude that your failure to do this is laziness on your part.

Do you make use of the "show preview" function? If you don't (and I suspect that this is the case, as on numerous occasions you have made several edits in the space of a couple of minutes) then can I suggest that you start using it and carefully read what you have typed, or better still have someone else carefully read what you have typed. YSSYguy (talk) 01:37, 6 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have nominated 1993 Norwich Airport G-OBWD incident, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/1993 Norwich Airport G-OBWD incident. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

List of terrorist incidents, 2010 continued

I do not understand the difficulty you are having with this article. As has been said before, we are not interested in any additions that you personally think are "terrorism", only ones that reliable sources that have described as "terrorism". Edits to User talk:Ryan kirkpatrick/ List of terrorist incidents, 2010 such as this which is emphatically not terrorism, and this where a policeman says "I can confirm he was a dissatisfied claimant; this is not a terrorist incident" show you are either not listening or do not understand what other editors are saying in the first place. If you continue to add similar incidents to the article in your userspace I will simply ignore the list as a complete waste of time. I suggest you take note of the second sentence in my post and add appropriate incidents to the main article. Thank you. O Fenian (talk) 21:56, 13 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Since you have chosen to ignore this message, and the request for comment you were previously notified of, and continued to add incidents which are unsourced as terrorism I have now given up trying to make you understand, and will be seeking to have you banned from editing articles relating to terrorism. O Fenian (talk) 19:35, 20 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Good job on providing list of this year's terrorist incidents! On the other hand, what O Fenian does it's a real scandal and that user should be banned. Amakthea computer (talk)

Re: List of rail accidents (2010–2019)

It's OK Ryan, no need for you to do anything: once again someone else has fixed up your poor edits. If you use the "Show preview" function you might just pick some of your problems up. YSSYguy (talk) 01:21, 23 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
