Geraki, did this occur when you pressed Start in the Plugins tab? -- Magioladitis (talk) 10:09, 21 January 2010 (UTC)
- Yep, I'm getting this one as well. Arbitrarily0 (talk) 12:47, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
I am pretty sure that this related to the timer and the way we save the plugin's stats. I ll try to do some debugging later. -- Magioladitis (talk) 10:43, 1 March 2010 (UTC)
Method to correctly count Kingbotk edits:
- Save text
- Apply plugin changes
- If old text <> new text add 1 to Tagged
- Apply genfixes
-- Magioladitis (talk) 20:16, 1 March 2010 (UTC)
- I believe this is the same error that I pointed out. If thats the case its due to the Plugin getting stuck on comments. Could you provide them an example article or two that generates the error. --Kumioko (talk) 13:32, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
- Duplicate with Wikipedia_talk:AutoWikiBrowser/Bugs#ArgumentOutOfRangeException_in_AsyncApiEdit.CallEvent. Charles_Edward are you trying to assess articles? -- Magioladitis (talk) 15:02, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
- I'm getting it too when trying to assess and cleanup metalworking articles. Wizard191 (talk) 13:39, 2 April 2010 (UTC)
- The problem is in the way we do the ststistics in KingbotK. We are already aware of that. -- Magioladitis (talk) 19:58, 5 April 2010 (UTC)
- Yes I am trying to assess. I can get through, say fifty or more without an error, and then it gets to a patch where its error after error. Then it clears back up and I can assess another fifty or so before it craps out again. I have just been going back and manually assessing all the errored ones right now. I think this is related to other errors posted here. Here's some examples:
- Samuel Henderson (Indianapolis mayor), I can load the page, then click skip or save to get to the talk and it hangs. It never loads the talk page. If I click skip or save a second time, the above error occurs. If I click stop, then restart, or just click start without stopping, I get the above error too. Then upon restarting I get the "pluggin was expecting talk page" error.
- Same with Jim Hill (Oregon politician)
- Eventually you get through the "bad" articles and it will start working again. I don't see on the talk pages of those articles any comments, or things like that. And it is on such a variety of articles and they have no common template except the Indiana project template, which I am assessing for. —Charles Edward (Talk | Contribs) 14:09, 7 April 2010 (UTC)

Happens when I try to do assessments with {{WikiProject Ontario Roads}}. Half the pages come up with an error saying 'AWB expected a talk page', with only OK to click. That stops the processing. I click start again, and it often skips the item and goes to the next and asks the same thing. Eventually it will go, but then this error will come up and stop the processing again. - ʄɭoʏɗiaɲ τ ¢ 12:49, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

A version of this error comes up whenever I try to load any plugin. This, like other SecurityExceptions seem to be, is probably caused by being on a network shared H drive. Dragging AWB's folder to the desktop didn't fix it.~ neko-chan :3 (talk) 19:17, 9 February 2010 (UTC)

Reported in Wikipedia_talk:AutoWikiBrowser/Bugs/Archive_10 in the past and Reedy claimed to have fixed that in rev 3971. -- Magioladitis (talk) 11:48, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, I know. But this happened in version 4.5, and I'm using the 5.0.3 and it is still there for that site (www.spescoladeteatro.org.br/enciclopedia/). I think the fix was only for the wikia sites. This site I'm attempting to connect is not related to Wikimedia (but it uses MediaWiki) and it is a single language project (it doesn't have interwikis ou subdomains like xx.spescoladeteatro.org.br/enciclopedia/, for instance). I think there's some bug in AWB with that, because I use it in a wiki in my notebook (http://localhost/wiki/) and there's no problem with that. This only happens when I try to use it on http://www.spescoladeteatro.org.br/enciclopedia/ . CasteloBrancomsg 12:02, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
- We can easily fix it if you install the latest snapshot found in http://toolserver.org/~awb/snapshots/AutoWikiBrowser5031_rev6872.zip and recatch the bug. This will show us in which line we have to add the extra code. -- Magioladitis (talk) 12:04, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, Magioladitis, I'll put the new message here, that ocurred in 5.0.3.1, revision 6872. CasteloBrancomsg 13:02, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
- Is there a solution for this error? CasteloBrancomsg 19:42, 30 July 2010 (UTC)

Saving Posadowsky Glacier (Antarctica). Rich Farmbrough, 07:06, 22 September 2010 (UTC).
I'm not sure what caused it but I was trying out the 'Max edits' function in the bots tab. But when I turned 'Max edits' off, the error still happened. It appears to happen whenever I try to save the changes to the article. I downgraded to SVN 7505 and the bug disappeared. I get this problem every time I open up AWB, and I get this error on both of my computers that I've been running it on. This puts me always configured to connect to http://en.wikipedia.org/, even though I've configured the customized URL to http://www.wowpedia.org/. There's no error or anything when I close the window. Reach me at http://www.wowpedia.org/User_talk:Gourra. --Gourra (talk) 06:42, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

- AWB fetches proxy settings from your Internet Explorer settings. What do you have specified there? Rjwilmsi 14:32, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
- Also: what text are you entering, I think it needs to be
www.wowpedia.org/
. Rjwilmsi 14:36, 21 October 2010 (UTC)- There are no specified proxy settings in IE. The URL keep resetting to
www,wowpedia,org
after I restart it, and when I type inwww.wowpedia.org
I just get the same error and there is no change. --Gourra (talk) 14:43, 21 October 2010 (UTC)- I might have an idea why it acts up, and that might be that the work place has a proxy setting that conflicts with connecting with AWB. If that's the case, I'm just simply out of luck. --Gourra (talk) 06:39, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
- I managed to bypass the workplace's firewall/proxy block by using a proxy server, but there's still no luck. --Gourra (talk) 09:11, 25 October 2010 (UTC)

My input file for database scan was the latest article dump of dawiki: from http://download.wikimedia.org/dawiki/20110227/dawiki-20110227-pages-articles.xml.bz2
- By the looks of it you have an article with that ASCII character in it (see Shift Out and Shift In characters), which .NET calls invalid. Are you able to contact somebody with SQL access to da-wiki to see if they can tell you the article? That way you could fix it for the next dump. Otherwise I could see about downloading the dump myself. Rjwilmsi 15:20, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

Fix all excess whitespace adding whitespace

Without suggesting it on /Feature requests, someone has messed around with the Fix all excess whitespace command (whether deliberately or accidentally) so that it adds whitespace after bullets and no longer removes excess whitespace in section headings. It needs to be fixed first, then if someone wants the removing whitespace in those places to be removed, it should be discussed. McLerristarr | Mclay1 16:13, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

Should not remove full cite information in duplicate cites
Someone just used AWB on the Multiregional evolution page, which I'm currently cleaning up. I noticed that the full cite information was removed in one case, leaving just a cite by name. This can be problematic because someone may remove the only remaining cite in a reorganization or rewrite, leaving an orphaned name cite, which may not be that easy to catch. In my opinion best practice is to leave the full cite information with every occurrence, leaving the name feature as a way of merging cites in display for the benefit of readers. This should at any rate be a conscious decision on the part of editors, so it shouldn't be done in an automated tool. Please have AWB leave full cites alone. If this is a feature request rather than a bug, please move it there. Diff here:

- Not done The use of condensed named references is common practice at Wikipedia per WP:REFNAME. If you disagree with this policy then please post at WP:REFNAME. Rjwilmsi 19:35, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
- That's not what he's asking, though -- he's asking that cites be left in, but that dup cites be given the name of the first one, so that any one can be deleted without orphaning the refs. Correct? While it's not a bad idea, it could lead to confusion, because if you change one without changing the name, it will still combine the named refs, even though they no longer match. --SarekOfVulcan (talk) 19:45, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
- Correct. WP:REFNAME says that whether to keep the bodies of multiple duplicate cites is a matter for editorial judgement, so it shouldn't be automated. With respect the the possibility of the bodies no longer matching, they should still both refer to the same document, so while they may contain different data the data they both contain should always match. Hopefully people who use refnames change the name when they change the document it refers to - I always try to use a unique refname, such as a DOI if available. Make list display becomes somewhat garbled when scrolling fast
Status | New |
---|---|
Description | When quickly scrolling up and down through a large list in the make list window (by clicking and dragging the slider in the scroll bar), some of the entries overwrite each other in terms of how they are displayed. The entries themselves are fine; however, some of the article titles have the names of the articles that were above them listed on top of them. For example, one of the entries of the list I have open right now is for New York State Route 470. It should read just "New York State Route 470"; however, the displayed text is "New York State Route 470" with the words "New York State Route 446" (the article above it in the list) overlaid on top. – TMF 19:22, 16 November 2009 (UTC) |
To duplicate: | Make a large list (the list I noticed this on was 215 entries long) and scroll up and down using the method described above |
Operating system | Windows 7 |
.NET FW Version | Unknown |
AWB version | 4.9.0.3 rev5636, but this issue existed in the last snapshot I used (I think it was around rev5580 or so) as well. |
Workaround | 1) Ignore the garbled text and use AWB as usual. 2) Clicking on the garbled entry (highlighting it) will correct the displayed text. 3) Scrolling slower (using the arrows and/or by clicking in the scroll bar) doesn't seem to cause this issue. |

Keyboard shortcut stops working
Status | Bug currently being investigated/fixed |
---|---|
Description | The save keyboard shortcut works fine when AWB is first started; to save, you can use "Alt-s", "Ctrl-s", or even just "s". But if you click in the diff area or text box (including scroll bar), then the shortcut stops working until you restart AWB. (Note that "Alt-g" continues working for ignore, although I believe that ignore has been replaced with skip in the next version, so the shortcut will probably be different). If you subsequently click in one of various places such as in the edit box, list box, diff area, or on the Start tab, the save shortcut will then work once immediately thereafter, but then stops working again. This was originally reported on WT:AWB by ZooFari (talk · contribs), but that report was recently archived without any action. The keyboard shortcut feature is a very useful one, providing a comfortable alternative to stressful repeated mouse clicking, so I've brought the issue here. MANdARAX • XAЯAbИAM 01:32, 24 December 2009 (UTC)
- Ctrl+S works only if the program is focused in the edit area. I thought this was the expected behaviour. (Btw, the pther discussion was automatically archived by a bot). -- Magioladitis (talk) 08:56, 24 December 2009 (UTC)
- Having to click in the edit box completely negates the convenience of having a keyboard shortcut (except on those occasions when you happen to have been making a manual edit anyways). The keyboard shortcut to Save should be just as available as the one to Ignore is. Try making a list of pages (with all skip options disabled), and see how easy it is to go through the list by pressing Alt-g to Ignore them. It should be just as convenient to use Alt-s or Ctrl-s to Save. MANdARAX • XAЯAbИAM 09:57, 24 December 2009 (UTC)
- IMHO the keyboard shortcuts should work in the entire main window of AWB. Not sure why they don't at the moment. Rjwilmsi 10:00, 24 December 2009 (UTC)

- I just tested the newest version (SVN 5899) and verified that Alt-k correctly Skips anywhere, just as Alt-g did in previous versions. MANdARAX • XAЯAbИAM 20:43, 1 January 2010 (UTC)
- I think there are two issues with Alt-S:
- When the browser portion of the window has the focus, it prevents the proper function of the Alt- and Cmd- functions. I bet IE grabs the keystrokes before the main thread of AWB sees them.
- When "Start" is not the current tab and the Save button is not visible, the Alt-S shortcut won't work. Windows only honors Alt shortcuts for active controls, and a hidden control is not active.
- It would be very helpful if this could be addressed. Having to click in the edit box before using Alt-S is inconvenient. Using a Cmd- key shortcut for a new "Save article text" menu entry would help with #2. I am not sure how you resolve #1 if my guess about the focus issue is right. — John Cardinal (talk) 22:10, 8 February 2010 (UTC)

- I've seen it as well. I've always assumed it was because of the API, since if you edit an article in a browser, add a pipe-tricked linked link, and click "show changes", it shows the link being piped. Same thing with subst'ed templates: show changes in a browser shows it subst'ed, show changes in AWB doesn't. – TMF 13:30, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
- I'll have to look into it. Depending on the configuration of how this works, is whether it'd be worth dealing with directly in AWB. Or if the API should be applying the pipetrick on the generated preview etc. —Reedy 20:18, 5 May 2010 (UTC)

- Indeed. And I can imagine situations where blank pages might validly exist. However a (default on) skip check box "if page blank" would cover the API side? (Although some cases where a blank page has been given by the API I suspect, it gets tagged "Wikify" "Uncat" and possibly something else. - AWB loading a page as blank page was an AWB bug that we fixed. I don't think the problem is in loading, rather in saving. "Links on page" option do not work on Commons template:XXX/lang pages
Status | New |

Description | "Links on page" option do not work on Commons template:XXX/lang pages. Commons is a multilingual project and many templates have multiple subpages with versions of the template in various languages. Those special lang subpages are often created automatically by {{subst:lle}} and resulting pages do not work with "Links on page" option of list creation provided by AWB. AWB cannot save letter + combining diacritic when a precomposed Unicode glyph is available
Status | Need more information |
---|---|
Description | I'm making corrections to 800 IPA transcriptions of Burmese. Some of these involve changing a diacritic. Many of the vowel+diacritic have no combined Unicode value, and so I made the rules a generic combining-diacritic → combining-diacritic swap. However, some of the combos do have preexisting glyphs, and when saved, WP converts the combos into those glyphs. AWB cannot save a combo that this happens to. Although it displays the proper corrections in the edit box, when I hit 'save', it just restarts (in X seconds).
I can copy the edit box and paste it into any of the articles manually (I've done about 70), and that works fine. That gets to be quite tedious, however. I reported a similar problem some time ago, here, and that was chalked up to a server problem. However, it's been two days now w the Burmese stuff, and it's still happening. It's also always the same subset of articles. — kwami (talk) 08:24, 2 October 2010 (UTC) |
To duplicate: | One example replaces a combining under-breve ( ̯ ) with a combining under-tilde ( ̰ ). I made the manual change, cut & pasted from the AWB edit window, here. Note that although I copied and pasted from the edit window in AWB, where the diacritics were separate combining glyphs, and that's still the case in the saved version in the page history with a̰, the page history has a precomposed ṵ, which was not produced by AWB. I reverted that change, ran it again, and deleted the under-tildas, and it saved fine here. It also saves fine if I delete only the tilde under the u,[8] but not if I delete only the tilde under the a.
That particular rule is regex under advanced rules, \{\{IPA-my\|([^|}]*)̯ to {{IPA-my|$1̰ (regex, case sensitive, apply 3 times, inside templates, no 'if' conditions). However, the same thing happens with the same diacritic in a 'regular settings' rule that changes ṵ (precomposed u-under.tilde) to ṵ (u + combining diacritic--I'm telling you in case the latter gets saved as the precomposed character when I hit 'save page' on this post, which I believe it will) under the 'normal settings' rules, and also the same thing with i instead of u. No boxes in the regular rules window are checked apart from 'enabled', but same problem as the regex rule. A different diacritic I manually overrode was here. The problematic part was correcting taʊ̀ɴ to tàuɴ. (That accent probably will be fused to the a when I save this posting, but in the edit window it is a separate combining glyph which I can delete by hitting the backspace key.) It only saves if I delete the grave accent over the a (that is, save to tauɴ [9]). That's a 'normal settings' rule that finds aʊ̀ and replaces with àu. There is another rule than replaces unaccented ʊ with u in certain environments, and that doesn't cause problems, so it's not the ʊ → u part. Also, when I replaced the combining accent à (which is easier for me to type inside AWB) with precomposed à inside the replace rule, then the problem disappears, as here. So I figure it's the combining diacritic. I replaced the problematic ṵ in first problem listed above with ʊ̰ (same diacritic on a letter which has no precombined Unicode character for it) and it saved just fine, here just as it did when I cut & pasted in the precomposed letter into the AWB edit box.[10] So it would seem to be specifically (1) trying to save a page with a letter plus combining diacritic sequence, when that combination would normally be converted into a precomposed character when saved in WP, but not (2) when saving the precomposed character itself, or (3) when saving the same diacritic on a letter for which Unicode (or at least WP) does not have a precomposed version. |

- Does this sandbox diff correctly represent the type of edit you want to be making with AWB (text from Thukha article)? Rjwilmsi 12:58, 2 October 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, that's exactly right. I can get it to work if AWB converts u̯ directly into ṵ, but not if it converts into u+ ̰ — kwami (talk) 19:15, 2 October 2010 (UTC)
- I was able to reproduce this once, but now can't get it to happen again. If I have understood your conclusion it's that the diacritic needs to be combined with the letter to the Unicode character for AWB to save. Therefore I suggest you try selecting the text and right-clicking to choose the 'Unicodify selected' option. Does it then allow you to save? Rjwilmsi 21:52, 2 October 2010 (UTC)
- It was already selected, but it made no difference: I can't save either way. (I assume that unicodifies input from existing sequences on the page, not output from AWB.)
- Yes, that was my conclusion. I think it might only be sequences that WP unicodifies upon saving, that there's a conflict between what AWB and WP are trying to do.
- My AWB options: apply gen fixes, unicodify, settings enabled (as above). — kwami (talk) 22:04, 2 October 2010 (UTC)

Missing spaces and breaks when pasting into the edit-field of AWB
Status | Bug currently being investigated/fixed |

Description | If I copy the content of "Navigatie " (not the space after the word!), to paste it in the edit-screen in AWB, the space after the word is missing when I pasted it. - MOS:QUOTE makes specific allowance for the changing of hyphens and dashes to meet the MOS. Wouldn't that apply here? Rjwilmsi 10:22, 23 March 2011 (UTC)
- I defer to your superior knowledge of the MOS. So for Shaun Whalley why does AWB change "title=DROYLSDEN 5 – 0" but not "title=DROYLSDEN 2 - 0" in the previous cite web template? Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 01:07, 24 March 2011 (UTC)
