Presidio County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of 2000, the population is 7,304. Its county seat is Marfa6.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 9,988 km² (3,856 mi²). 9,986 km² (3,856 mi²) of it is land and 2 km² (1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.02% water.

Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there were 7,304 people, 2,530 households, and 1,864 families residing in the county. The population density was 1/km² (2/mi²). There were 3,299 housing units at an average density of 0/km² (1/mi²). The racial makeup of the county was 84.36% Hispanic or Latino of any race., 0.27% Black or African American, 0.27% Native American, 0.08% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 13.47% from other races, and 0.93% from two or more races.
There were 2,530 households out of which 40.40% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.50% were married couples living together, 13.60% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.30% were non-families. 24.20% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.20% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.85 and the average family size was 3.43.
In the county, the population was spread out with 32.70% under the age of 18, 8.30% from 18 to 24, 24.90% from 25 to 44, 20.20% from 45 to 64, and 13.90% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 33 years. For every 100 females there were 94.30 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.00 males.
The median income for a household in the county was $19,860, and the median income for a family was $22,314. Males had a median income of $23,218 versus $16,208 for females. The per capita income for the county was $9,558. 36.40% of the population and 32.50% of families were below the poverty line. 43.40% of those under the age of 18 and 44.10% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.

Presidio County is one of the few counties in Texas to give a majority of their votes to Senator John Kerry.
