I removed the prod from Jack Moule because since notability as a national champion is pretty clear, this would require consensus at AfD. I could send it there, but since I would oppose deletion, my nominating it might cause confusion. If you think it should be deleted, it would be better for you to be the one to nominate it. DGG ( talk ) 02:26, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Not up to me - I'll have to talk to the subject as OTRS - he wants it deleted.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 18:46, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Quality Rating

The talk page does have a quality rating. It is class=B. I've put it on the page myself, removed it, put it back, confirmed it each time, yet the article will not de-categorize. On getting your message, I checked the history - none of my edits are there. This is very weird; I checked and rechecked several times! Anyway I did it once again, and now it has worked. Thank you.

Maybe some weird server bug didn't cause you edit to sync with the main Florida server. We will never know...  Ronhjones  (Talk) 19:38, 29 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Article's creator

But the first edit was a redirect, and the next was a move. The history doesn't identify it as a page creation. Am I missing something? Isn't there a "former" page?

Hello, Ronhjones. You have new messages at Svanslyck's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

I'm looking for an opinion

I've been corresponding with an artist and had this exchange:

"I wrote: "Thirdly, it is my understanding that as the creating artist you own the copyrights to images of the monument.  I have taken a series of pictures during my visits to Glendale and would like to use those.  I am very comfortable showing these to you as part of the getting permission process."
The artist, Joe Tyler replied: "As far as pictures go, I feel that the memorial belongs to all who see it and I have no problem with you sharing the images."

Is this enough permission to use my pictures of his work? I have started the article here and wanted to add a picture, but decided to run it past you first. Einar aka Carptrash (talk) 01:59, 30 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It's a good start (I do wish the US would have a FoP like my country...), why not forward it to me at OTRS - make sure the e-mail adresses are included. Maybe we can firm up the permission that way. The main problem we have, is that I see a lot of these and when I tell the creator that the Wikipedia image can be used for any purpose, including commercial - they get cold feet. Send to info-en AT wikimedia DOT org (tidy that up... stops the spammers) and put my name at top. Let me know here and I will go and look for it.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 20:03, 30 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Got it. It's mine  Ronhjones  (Talk) 21:27, 30 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That should take it to the next stage. Perhaps I should have mentioned before that I would like this release to function for a bunch of pictures. The memorial in question is a complicated one with a lot of parts to it. Carptrash (talk) 21:40, 30 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
See how he goes with the first one, you can then just ask to agree to the rest in the same way.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 22:16, 30 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good. Carptrash (talk) 22:31, 30 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

username-change request: MCT Susan --> SusanYoo -->MediaMaven

Hi there,

I believe my Username (MCT Susan) has not been changed, as per your approval of my name-change request.

I think the easiest way to see what I mean is to visit MCT Susan's talk page?

You'd advised me to post on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:CHU.

I believe this page ultimately sends me to post to this User rename log: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Log/renameuser.

I only understood today that this might be where I need to post your approval.

As far as I can tell, the MCT Susan username has not yet been changed to SusanYoo.

One complication -- I would like to use a pseudonym now, instead of my real name. I came across a warning while researching this process, that using your real name can result in harassment.

Therefore, I'd like to change my username to MediaMaven.

I've posted an Unblock-un request to that effect on my User talk page (for MCT Susan).

Can you please let me know if there's anything else I need to do? And if not, when I can start operating with my new Username?

Thank you very much for any (more) assistance you can provide. You've already been very helpful. I will now research COI guidelines, to see if I can get an unbiased article on MCT, with good sources, posted somehow. I know a lot of people have looked up this news agency online, and because it is used by close to 600 newspapers in the U.S. and abroad, I think it would be helpful to the public if Wikipedia includes the article.

Happy New Year!

Best, Susan Yoo (aka, I hope!, MediaMaven)

p.s. can you please reply on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:MCT_Susan? I'm worried that if you reply here, I won't receive an e-mail, and I won't know you've replied.

New message from Media Maven, Jan. 3, 2013

Hi Ronhjones!

Thanks again for helping me changing my username yesterday -- much appreciated!

I've created this article and am awaiting review:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/MCT

Can you please take a look at it and tell me what you think?

Thanks for helping me get started!

Best, Media Maven (talk) 21:21, 3 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

p.s. can you please reply on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Media_Maven?

Hi Ronhjones! I went on the help desk live chat and received a lot of advice. One editor suggested I add some information on MCT to the McClatchy and Tribune articles, then link to my proposed article, once it's live. I made those additions.

Another editor suggested I convert the timeline format in my history section (article is here-->http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/MCT) to a narrative format, more similar to McClatchy and Tribune articles. So I did that. Can you please take a look at the article and the edits in the McClatchy and Tribune articles and let me know what I should do next?

Name Change

Thanks, Ron, but there are user contributions under the old name. I can see them at Special:Contributions/Svanslyck. RiverStyx23{submarinetarget} 15:02, 4 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

See Wikipedia:Chu#Must Read Item 2.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 20:02, 4 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe another admin can help? This issue is post-move contributions made in error, not the ones that were moved during the rename. Thanks. RiverStyx23{submarinetarget} 23:16, 4 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Not admins, there's no tool for us to use - you may have to go the the bureaucrat that did the account move.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 23:18, 4 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. Thank you for your help; I know admin-ing can be a thankless job at times. RiverStyx23{submarinetarget} 23:42, 4 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I am Pierre Abbé. You helped me with an image problem concerning Fausto Cercignani. Everything is OK except for the German version of the page. Can you help once more? Many Thanks. P.A.--Pierre Abbé (talk) 09:19, 5 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The German page looks fine to me - is it a case of your PC caching an old version? - you may need to refresh or purge the page.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 16:50, 5 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The German page looks fine if you are logged-in, otherwise it doesn't. An I right? Sorry to inconvenience you again.Pierre Abbé (talk) 08:44, 6 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yes.... German Wiki has a revision system - The latest version will not be seen by an IP address until a German reviewer approves the edit. As it says a t the top of the page - 1 Änderung dieser Version ist noch nicht markiert. Die gesichtete Version wurde am 26. Dezember 2012 markiert. Nothing I can do about that.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 23:51, 6 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

More false info posted on our wiki user page georockgal

User:Georockgal/Delta Psi Delta (Canada) Hi there, you recently responded to an email I had sent concerning false information being posted on out user page georockgal delta psi delta. This was your response: -it's easy to add standard warnings and revert vandals at the same time) or just let me know here or at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Ronhjones

While I am learning how to add standard warning I was hoping you could address the issue of more incorrect edits. Under our history this was stated: Delta Psi Delta, is a Canadian National Sorority that has three active chapters that regularly participate in hazing and one inactive chapter. This information is inaccurate and posted by IP address 99.226.185.230. Same looks like who added incorrect info before.

Here is some more inaccurate info: Delta Psi Delta (nicknamed DpsiD) was founded on September 15, 1991 in Ottawa, Ontario in a classroom within Residence commons at Carleton University. Twelve (12) women who had no moral beliefs or values founded this organization, along with the express support of Sigma Pi Fraternity at Carleton University, who adopted them and helped them receive acceptance with the Ottawa Greek Community. Delta Psi Delta, is a Canadian National Sorority that has three active chapters that regularly participate in hazing and one inactive chapter. Alpha chapter is based in Ottawa, Ontario with members from Carleton University, University of Ottawa and Algonquin College, Gamma Chapter which is based in Toronto, Ontario with members from York University and Ryerson University, and Delta Chapter which is based in London, Ontario with members from University of Western Ontario. The sorority just had it's 20 year Anniversary Celebration in September 2011, in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, where many of its existing members and alumna attended and participated in secret rituals.
This is what is should read: Delta Psi Delta (nicknamed DpsiD) was founded on September 15, 1991 in

Anyway, we are upset with these revisions, we a hoping that they will stop, ultimately I feel the user posting these edits are trying to get the page removed. We will do that of necessary. There may also be other info that is not accurate, still trying to sort all of this out. I have reverted the information back to its original form. Please respond to my talk page. Thanks! I see that some of the vandalism has been removed. I've rolled it back to an earlier version to complete it - the easiest way is always to undo the edits or restore an older version, rather than trying to remove bit by bit.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 16:46, 5 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. Some of those OTRS received cats seem to be languishing. Most need forcing to a conclusion, thankfully this one had reached that.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 19:17, 7 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Happy New Year

Hi Ron, in the end of December, and a bit before that I was constrained to seek your intervention w.r.t. vandalism. Of course on 27th Dec. when I wrote to you last, I realized that being in the west, you may be away on your Christmas sojourn. Indeed I am sorry and I consider it stupid on my part not to have wished you a Happy New Year. Of course, the first week of Jan usually also envelopes me (sort of) as I usually fall prey to change in the weather and other ailments associated with cold weather. Temperatures in India (as you might have followed on channels like CNN/BBC) are hovering between 1 to 2 degrees Fahrenheit. I was of course down for 2-3 days since 2nd Jan. Sorry once again, and here's wishing you a very happy and grand new year!!! Thanks for all the help and guidance once again. Also, congrats on your securing the TUSC token (what's that, I suppose admins are entitled to have it.)Srirangam99 (talk) 09:31, 7 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
And the same to you. Looks a lot colder than here (10°C today - one advantage of living on an island).  Ronhjones  (Talk) 19:21, 7 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

MCT page

Looks like my article submission was declined, and now "McClatchy-Tribune Information Services" redirects to The McClatchy Company. The problem is that this page doesn't even mention MCT!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/MCT

Help! Is there anything I can do at this point?

--Media Maven (talk) 21:57, 8 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm. The reviewer says that the article exists as McClatchy-Tribune Information Services - if fact that page is a redirect to The McClatchy Company. The question is (and you would be better at knowing the answer), does the article at The McClatchy Company cover the data at your page? If not then you have two choices...
  1. Expand The McClatchy Company to cover McClatchy-Tribune Information Services with the data you know, maybe make a separate section. In other word merge the two pages.
  2. If you think the subsidery company can support it's own page then be bold! Review is not compulsory (useful most of the times). Move your page to McClatchy-Tribune Information Services - there is only a simple redirect there with no history, so you should be able to move your page over the top of the existing one (don't cut and paste - just move). Naturally remove the banner once you move it.
Hope that makes sense.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 23:32, 8 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Douglas Pohl and David S Cowper

Italic textGood morning I understand you have been having email communication with Douglas Pohl regarding the entry on Wikipedia regarding myself, David Scott Cowper. Douglas Pohl also tried to download 4 additional photographs and these have been blocked awaiting communication from myself to yourselves confirming authorisation. I hope you will accept this communication with yourself as giving that authority and that he can proceed with the photographs that have been forwarded to him. The reason that I gave Douglas authority is that I am not computer literate and unable to do it myself and he kindly volunteered to do it on my behalf. I would be grateful if you could kindly acknowledge this message and notify me whether he can now proceed. Many thanks Best Wishes David S Cowper — Preceding unsigned comment added by David Scott Cowper (talkcontribs) 10:55, 9 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Howard Chaykin image

Hi, Ron. I think I've just added all the licensing information — I was having trouble because of all the templates and because this is a crop and a color-correction of the original public-domain image here — which as you'll see is cluttered, unnaturally red, and, when in reduced size for the infobox, makes the subject, Howard Chaykin, almost too small to see. I've undoubtedly done this in an awkward and convoluted way, and I would surely like to do it more neatly if I only knew how. Thanks for the follow-up. --Tenebrae (talk) 23:54, 9 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed the link for you - it's colon - wiki - colon - link (all in square brackets as normal). Easy when you know how.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 23:58, 9 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Kind of you! --Tenebrae (talk) 00:56, 10 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, not too long ago, you nominated File:Kenmahoney2012.jpg for deletion at WP:FFD for a lack of permission, and I deleted it as such. The uploader recently notified me that they sent the permission on December 20. Since you are an OTRS volunteer, I was wondering if you could take a look at it and see if anything comes up? — ξxplicit 00:59, 11 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
