Furniture design

  • The Society of Arts and Crafts of Boston - http://www.societyofcrafts.org/ Long history & many references in WP -- from another page "The Society of Arts and Crafts was erected 1887 for the promotion of art based on traditional craftmanship, in reaction to the 19th century industrialization. Nowadays The Society of Arts & Crafts is an art gallery for the sale and exposition of art."
  • Souda (brand) - Souda is an up and coming American design brand that specializes in furniture, lighting and home decor. [1] While the young company has only had products on the market for a couple years, Souda has already won the prestigous Best New Designer Award at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair [2] and been awarded a 2014 Best New Designer award for the Strut Shelving System. [3]. Souda is also the name of a city, so not having a page about the brand is potentially not satisfying all those searching for the brand.
  • Tcherassi Vilató - brand formed by the architects/designers duo Angelica Tcherassi and Jacob Vilató, ; Launched their first pieces during June 2013 at Barcelona Design Week: The MissUnderstood tables, TryAngle lounge chairs, Let´s Eat tables and their Better than Chocolate sofas; Piezas con Chispa, as announced by Elle Decor Spain in their report of Barcelona Design Week must see.[4]; Tcherassi Vilató, design that is here to stay.   • Bernardo Urbina - Bernardo Urbina is a Costa Rican furniture designer and founder of Tacloban Prevails[1], a firm that buys debris from families affected by Hurricane Haiyan, and uses it to create single-version furniture [2]. After the furniture piece is sold, 10% of the profits go back to the family who provided the original debris[3].

  • Joseph Pierre Nuyttens - Joseph Pierre Nuyttens (1885 – 1960) was the Belgian-American artist who illustrated four books by L. Frank Baum in 1911 and 1912 and was "one of Will Rossiter's regular commercial artists". Born in Antwerp, Nuyttens was educated at the Ecoles des Beaux-Arts in both Brussels and Paris, and the Art Institute of Chicago. He was made a Chevalier of the Order of Leopold II in 1918. In his artistic career, Nuyttens worked in oils, watercolors, pastels, and etching. He exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago, and his work is in their permanent collection, as well as in the collections of the White House, the Royal Palace in Brussels, and the State House in Springfield, Illinois.   • Pendulum Theory - the "Pendulum Effect": the continual acceptance and inevitable rejection of artistic movements throughout history, related specifically to graphic design but also the field of art as a whole. This term means as is described above. It refers to the trend throughout art history of artists adopting an art movement, then rejecting it by starting another art movement that is very different and often polar opposite. Ex: Victorian Era Graphics to Art Nouveau, the Old Typography to Tschicholds New Typography, the International Styler to Post-modernism, etc. This trend is seen through artistic movements in painting as well.
