Request Permissions

Hey, I recently made a Pending Changes Reviewer request around a day ago. I was just wondering if you could take a look at it since it doesn't usually take this long. Thank you! Mdriscoll03 (talk) 05:22, 22 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Mdriscoll03 - Sorry for the delay getting back to you - did someone review your request? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:03, 27 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Oshwah Someone did get back to my request, thanks for asking. Unfortenatally I was declined but I'll go ahead and try again something in the future. Thanks, Mdriscoll03 (talk) 16:26, 1 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Mdriscoll03 - I apologize for such a delayed reply to do here. I was inactive for about two weeks to take a break and take care of some life / work / fun responsible adult stuff. Yes, please do apply again once any concerns listed have been addressed. I do see that you had the reviewer right revoked in October 2017, which is what I assume was the reason that your permission request received push-back from the admin who saw it. After reading the circumstances behind the revocation, it was fair for the admin to do and you'll certainly need to address that when you ask for those permissions back. HOWEVER, I don't want you to take that previous sentence as discouragement in any way. We all make mistakes - big, small, common, crazy, ridiculous, brow-raising, you name it... I've certainly made plenty of ridiculous and eyebrow-raising mistakes and in each category over the years I've been here... lots. Give it some time, gain some experience, learn from what happened, and you'll be fine and be granted the rights back no problem. If you have questions, concerns, or if you need anything else just let me know and I'll be happy to help. Keep up the good work and don't let mistakes bum you out; if you handle them the right way, they'll add to your experience and your good character, not diminish it ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 08:54, 4 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Could you please comment on the title censorship

IJBall is reverting to an unofficial censored title on the Imposters (TV series) article. Can you please add your voice to this on the talk page? helmboy 09:39, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please sort this out as IJBall has reverted yet again to his unofficial censored source. helmboy 13:14, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Oshwah – the relevant conversation is actually at Talk:Imposters (TV series). I've spelled out my concerns there. Thanks. --IJBall (contribstalk) 13:23, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Alright I'll take a look. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:54, 29 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Helmboy, IJBall - My sincere apologies for the delay getting back to you both about this. I was inactive for about two weeks to take a break and take care of some life / work / fun responsible adult stuff ;-). Yes, Wikipedia is not censored and you're absolutely correct about that. However... if we're talking about the title of a song, book, movie, etc. - and that title was officially given with censorship in its spelling (the television series The End of the F***ing World is a perfect example), then you'll leave the censorship characters in the title as-is when referring to the title directly. However, let's say for example that within this same article subject a section is written talking about a specific scene and a main character is quoted saying something like, "This fucking sucks and I'm out of here" - the word "fucking" would not be censored within the quote on the article and the whole word would be spelled out. That's where the Wikipedia guideline above steps in. Hopefully that makes sense. Were you two able to sort this out? Do any of you have any questions or further concerns? Let me know and I'll be happy to help. Just don't edit war and get yourselves in hot water over something easy and silly like this - it's not worth it ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 09:05, 4 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page watcher) Fuckin' A, Bubba. Hope you aren't offended by Southron colloquialisms. I could not resist.--Dlohcierekim (talk) 09:32, 4 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
LOL ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 09:54, 4 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Oshwah, as far as I am concerned, the issue was essentially resolved. Helmboy took the least "censored" version among the available sourceable options and used that. I'm fine with that (though it would be better if this version of the title was explicitly inline-sourced with an RTitle parameter, as the title that Helmboy used differs from that in the episode table's column reference...). --IJBall (contribstalk) 13:02, 4 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

(by talk reader) Don't you think your request is dishonest? Wouldn't it have been more honest for you to claim that the current version (including evidence that the subject was charged with embezzlement) should be replaced with the propaganda version saying what a great politician the subject is? You also need to explain if you have a conflict of interest. Chris Troutman (talk) 19:03, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I cannot change a fully protected page to any different revision unless a policy violation is found on the current revision (such as a violation of copyright or Wikipedia's biographies of living people policy - those would be removed immediately). Otherwise I would be giving one side an advantage over the other and inadvertently demonstrating bias by "picking a good revision" over another, which isn't the right thing for an administrator to do given the situation and their position.
Typically, when I review an article under dispute or edit warring, I'll look at the article's history and look at the reverts, the edit summaries behind them, the users involved (as well as the number of users involved), the timeline of the dispute, and get a sense of what it's about. I'll glance at the diffs and read the context of what's under dispute (to make sure this isn't a BLP violation or other major problem I need to step in and put a halt to), but I won't read into it in order to find out "which is better or not". All I want to know from reading through the diffs is if the dispute / edit warring is content-related or if it's not - everything else is completely irrelevant when it all comes down to it. I'll add the protection necessary (probably full protection depending on the users involved) and that's it. Whatever revision is live and current... sorry, that's the luck of the draw. If it needs to be changed or it it's "the wrong revision", the article's talk page is that-a-way - feel free to discuss it respectfully with the others, come to a consensus, and let me know when I can verify that the discussion is A-OK and when I can unprotect the page so everyone can move on peacefully ;-). If you have any questions or if you need help with anything, please don't hesitate to let me know and I'll be happy to do so. Thanks for the message and I wish you well with resolving the issue at-hand :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 09:28, 4 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Rat torture

Hi Oshwah, It seems that Rat torture, a page you have edited in the past, has undergone some major vandalism recently that I am unsure how to fix. Thanks in advance for your attention to this matter. StonyBrook (talk) 21:00, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Need your assistance in updating the content of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oakridge_International_School wiki page

Dear Oshwah,

I have seen that we have been active in editing the Oakridge International School WIKI page. I work for this school and was wondering if you could extend your services in updating the content of this WIKI page.

Here is the first round of updates under History section:

History-

The school is one of the earliest IB world schools in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and was established by educationist, Shomie Das, an alumnus of The Doon School, on the concept of smart schools in 2001. The school started on 11 June 2001 in rented premises in Jubilee Hills.

On 24 June 2002 the campus moved to Khajaguda, Hyderabad. The new campus covers 5.11 acres and was inaugurated by the former chief minister Nara Chandra Babu Naidu.

The school got its IB authorisation on 22nd October 2004 and has over 3000 students.

Its a network school using technology as early as 2001. Its a day boarding school where all the extra curricular activities and enrichment programmes take place with in the school timings.

Do let me know if you have any questions and concerns.

Best,

Hi Learnois, and welcome to Wikipedia! I understand that you work at the school, and I appreciate that you're asking for help with editing the article instead of simply doing it yourself due to the conflict of interest present. While it's a highly discouraged behavior to edit the article yourself, you can copy the page or content to your user sandbox, add or improve the content in your sandbox, and then make an edit request to request that your changes be reviewed and added by another user if no problems are found. Since you're brand new here, I highly recommend that you go through and complete Wikipedia's new user tutorial before you begin. It's full of useful walkthroughs and information, and it will provide you with a significant amount of important tutorials, guides, and scenarios so that you can get comfortable with navigating around the website, locating documents, policies, and important information, as well as how to edit, respond and talk to other users, and many more important concepts. If you have any further questions after completing the tutorial, please let me know and I'll be happy to help you with anything you need. Again, I welcome you to Wikipedia, I appreciate your message very much, and I wish you happy editing :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 10:11, 4 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Zyzzy2, and thanks for leaving me a message here with your request for assistance. Communication on Wikipedia is primarily done on user talk pages (such as here on my user talk page) or on article talk pages (like Talk:Iran, for example); I reserve email communication for urgent or private matters that need to be discussed on a non-public channel or medium. What can I help you with specifically regarding the Iran article? What questions do you have? I'll be more than happy to assist you - just let me know :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 10:15, 4 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Two Questions

Um, hi, I've never used this before. I'd would like to know two things:

1. Am I (Redacted). I just take things from other websites and add them into Wikipedia and fix grammatical errors.

2. Is it possible to un-revert my addition to the David Warner (Cricketer) page. I'm not begging but y'know, if it's possible.

Thankyou,

From Rayathing

RayAThing (talk) 15:17, 24 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi RayAThing, and thanks for leaving me a message here with your questions. I'll be more than happy to answer them and help you out:
To answer your first question: I think you're trying to ask if your account is blocked? If so, then no your account is just fine. If you could elaborate further on what you're trying to ask, I'll be happy to make sure that your question is answered ;-).
Regarding your second question: Are you talking about this edit you made to David Warner (cricketer)? Edits made cannot be redacted or hidden unless they fall under strict guidelines and are eligible by meeting one of the criteria listed here; if you wish to improve or fix something based off of your edit and it's still present on the article now, you can do this simply by editing the article and making the fix or change yourself; easy peasy :-).
Let me know if you can elaborate further regarding your first question, and if you have any more questions or need more help - I'll be happy to do so. Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 10:27, 4 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thegooduser - Sure! Where is it located? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 10:28, 4 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I think you should take a look again; do you mind?

My community college's IP address got blocked for vandalism, although I think it was incorrect because that was way back then.

I think the cause was an argument between two editors from there, with the first blanking their talk page (the first was correct). The second (who reported it incorrectly) kept reinstating it and violated WP:BLANK, because the first editor wanted it to be left blank. I don't get why the block was for vandalism if the IP did not vandalize that year. Is there a way the IP can be unblocked? Plus, six months is kind of harsh for that IP's activity.

Dolfinz1972 (talk) 18:52, 25 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dolfinz1972, and thanks for leaving me a message with your request. I was able to locate the information you were referring to regarding the school IP and the block (I won't disclose them here since it can link to personal information you didn't specifically disclose on your user page). It does appear that you're correct - someone else on the same IP as well as another IP within your school's IP range (just one IP address greater) was repeatedly adding and removing talk page messages and content, which is obviously repeated and disruptive behavior that needed to stop. It also stretched over to Sergecross73's user talk page and continued there as well, causing more repeated disruption. Given that this involves an IP address of an educational institution which is shared with numerous people who will nonetheless use and visit Wikipedia for various projects and research for educational purposes, given the destructive and unnecessary behavior of the edits coming from this shared IP address and the level of disruption it caused (looking at the edit summaries by the IP gauges the tone quite well) - I think that the block on this public IP was maybe set a tad higher for its first block than I wouldv'e given it if it were me that was performing the block, but I would not rule it as unfair. Since you have a user account, you're able to edit from any computer under this IP address without any issues. The block you're seeing doesn't stop current users who have a Wikipedia account from editing from those machines - it only stops anonymous users who don't have an account from doing so. Users who want to edit constructively and do so from behind this blocked IP address can create an account using a different computer that's not on the school's network (or they can request an account), and then do so by simply logging in. Worst case scenario? The block on this IP expires on June 10th of this year, and you'll be smooth sailing from there :-). Please let me know if you have any more questions or concerns, and I'll be more than happy to help you further. Thanks again for the message, I wish you good luck with the pursuit of your education, and I wish you happy editing :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 10:53, 4 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! I'm not sure which article you're referring to specifically. Looking at your edit history from March, the article you edited that I also reverted a change to (in April) was Gazetted Officer (India) - is this the one you're referring to? The edit I made to this article was to revert disruptive edits being made from this user; if there's still incorrect information or media being displayed on the article, feel free to fix it or (even better) discuss it here so the error can be identified, verified as a problem, and fixed :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 11:04, 4 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Pronounciation of Name

Hello! I was wondering how your username is pronounced. If possible, please use IPA. Thank you! ʡa-aʡa (talk) 00:47, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

ʡa-aʡa - Oh boy, that's an interesting and awesome request! So... I have to confess: I'm not proficient at all with the International Phonetic Alphabet... certainly not enough to provide you a correct and proper answer to your request here... LOL. I, however, will instead try my best using my own method so that you might get an idea of how to pronounce my username correctly; forgive me in advance for what you'll probably read as the worst attempt in the world by someone trying to type out how to pronounce a word ;-)
It's AWW-SHHZ-WAHH... lol. So you pronounce the 'O' softly (like "AWW" or saying "Awww..." to a cute puppy), followed by saying the 'sh' portion like "SHHZ" (It's not "SHH" like you're hushing someone, but a soft "shhhz" transition like you'd see in Chinese or Japanese or a similar language), followed by pronouncing the 'wah' portion like saying "WAH!" (like you're karate fighting and making a chop... haha). Again, I apologize for what you'll probably say is the ultimate worst explanation of how to pronounce something, but I hope it helps. Your request, if anything, shows me that I'm lacking proficiency in a common area that Wikipedia users who create content typically should have a good idea of knowledge over (how to "spell how to pronounce something"), so I appreciate the request a lot... thank you! If you have any other questions, or if you want to correct me and maybe even show me what the IPA of my username is, please let me know. I'd actually be quite interested to see it :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 11:20, 4 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I would try looking it up online. Thegooduser Let's Chat 02:46, 3 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
HA! Nice! Are you trying to write a file to output 0's and 1's like you see on the computer screens in the Matrix movies? Case insensitivity with variable names in batch files depends on their origin and age. You have to remember that you're writing this script using a method that's over 30 years old... the capability, capacity, and implementation of computers back then was a crumb compared to the large pie of computing that's available to us today, so remember to keep that in mind ;-). Adding code to display the output in green text to the command prompt screen has been changed starting with Windows 10, so you'll need to add that part of code depending on the version of Windows that you're going to run this machine on.
Also, for the love of God... add a 'timeout n' or a similar sleep command before that goto line in your loop! You're going to have a really bad time if you don't :-). If you don't make the script hold off for even a one millisecond before it repeats the loop, you essentially give your script the ability to loop indefinitely and without any bounds or limits, and it will use ALL of your available CPU resources to cycle... the program will eat the next CPU clock cycle available to repeat your loop and make your system unstable since no CPU time can be allocated to anything else. Since CPU clocks are at least a few GHz these days, even a 1 millisecond pause will lower CPU usage down from 100% to less than 1-2%, and you won't notice the difference anyways. Trust me... I learned this the hard way when I built multi-threaded C++ console scripts to loop like that. I had a bad time ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 11:46, 4 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! Based off the wording you used in your message to me here, it appears that you may be employed by this company or have some other conflict of interest with this article subject. If you wish to propose an update to the article, you can do so by making an edit request and providing the content and the reliable sources to assert verifiability with your claims. Someone will review your request and apply the changes necessary assuming no issues are found with your request. I would not continue to try updating the article yourself, as it's clear that you're running into hardship and push-back by other editors over numerous issues. The easiest way to resolve your concerns is by making an edit request. This will result in less headaches for you as well as the other users involved. Please let me know if you have any more questions or concerns and I'll be happy to help you further. Thanks again for the message, and I wish you good luck and happy editing :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 12:06, 4 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

On Apr.27, you responded to my inquiry of the same date, that I posted on Oshwah's page. You asked: "which article"? My addition that was removed, was posted on the wiki about "ear candling"; that I referenced in that original post to Oshwah.

A search about ear candling benefits, produces results that could/should have been in the ear candling wiki — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.88.106.215 (talk) 10:55, 2 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Dlohcierekim: Let's say someone got in to those alternate accounts and filed an unblock request at WP:UTRS would they be kept blocked? Thegooduser Let's Chat 17:20, 29 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thegooduser - Yes, they would be left blocked without verification from the main account that the request is legitimate. The UTRS reviewing admin would contact you through your main account and ask if you're the one who filed this request... to which of course you'd respond to them with "No" and, well, that's that. Case closed ;-).
I would find a UTRS request from a doppelganger account quite suspicious from the get-go (especially if the master or parent account isn't blocked) and verify it with them thoroughly. Most people in that scenario or position would simply ask for that account to be unblocked using their main account and by simply asking myself or another admin casually on their talk page... they wouldn't use UTRS to request an unblock and using their doppelganger account unless there was an exceptionally rare or extraordinary situation that was explainable... haha. If it were me and I was reviewing a UTRS request for a situation identical to your hypothetical scenario above, that's how I would pursue the unblock request and I wouldn't touch the block until the person could verify the legitimacy of the request using their main account. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 12:32, 4 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

We seem to be locked on the version that the IP was fighting for... that contains multiple problems as you can see by the edit summaries by multiple editors. Restoring the article would be best I think.--Moxy (talk) 07:05, 29 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Moxy! Thanks for the message, and I apologize for the delay responding to you here. I was away from Wikipedia for about two weeks to take care of life / work / that adult stuff they call "responsibilities"... that kind of junk ;-).
The article was reverted to an earlier revision by Dlohcierekim. While I didn't mind at all that he reverted the article revision (in fact, I was happy that he did so), I absolutely could not do this since I was the protecting admin. Unless a policy violation is found on the current revision (such as vandalism, violation of copyright, a BLP violation, etc.), in normal situations such as a content dispute, I absolutely cannot change the page to any different revision without consensus from the community and an edit request. Otherwise I would be giving one side an advantage over the other and inadvertently demonstrating bias by "picking a good revision" over another, which isn't the right thing for an administrator to do given the situation and their position. Did I think that the current revision was terrible and did I agree with the majority of the users that it should be reverted? Oh yeah, hell yeah I did... no doubt lol. However, I'm speaking as an editor when I say this, not as an administrator. As hard as it is at times and as much as it can totally suck to have to "be that admin" or "be that person", I'm bound by my role as an admin to follow Wikipedia's policies and make administrative decisions in a purely neutral manner, which means that I have to use only the relevant evidence and facts to make the right decision and to not allow any other matters to be taken into consideration. Any of my personal feelings, thoughts, and opinions were outside that relevant scope and therefore were irrelevant.
If it needs to be changed or it it's "the wrong revision", it's gotta be discussed.
Sorry if this response was a huge novel and much longer than you expected or wanted, but I felt that you deserved a reasonable explanation as to why I didn't change the article after I protected it, as well as an explanation as to exactly how I process relevant evidence and information and make sure that I don't allow myself to take other matters into account when making a decision. It's not always easy to do, and I don't do it because I like being "that guy" or to give people frustration or a hard time... I do it because it's the right thing :-). ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 13:04, 4 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Editor WP:NOTHERE

Hi Oshwah, I have been dealing with an editor. Cdo2017 (talk · contribs), which seems to be case of WP:NOTHERE. The editor has a very narrow focus of interest Para-Commando Brigade (Bangladesh) and seems to be either adding unverified content to that or related pages (even after multiple 4th level warnings by multiple editors). In addition, the editor also keeps repeatedly creating articles related to the topic which do not meet WP:GNG and have been deleted via WP:XFD (in one case they even created a deleted article again without WP:AFC). Moreover, the editor has despite multiple warnings uploaded content to English Wikipedia which has copy-right violations. Any attempt to engage the editor in any discussion does not work. All of this has happened over a period of a year and it seems the editor has not made an attempt to understand Wikipedia or it's guidelines. Can you please have a look at this if it merits taking this to WP:ANI. Thanks. Adamgerber80 (talk) 16:13, 29 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Adamgerber80, and thanks for leaving me a message here with your concerns. Have you expressed your concerns via an ANI discussion? There's nothing to be afraid of if you feel that this may be appropriate. If the user is attempting to add content to an article and create articles (they're just not doing a good job at it), judging whether or not the editor is here to contribute to the cause can be seen as a toss-up here. Sure, the user isn't doing great policy-wise, but attempting to improve the article and create new ones (even though they have a narrow focus and can be considered single-purpose) aren't behaviors that we would attribute to someone whose WP:NOTHERE. In fact, if you read the essay page on single-purpose accounts, it only makes mention to WP:NOTHERE in general and to summarize that, depending on their intentions and the content they add, they can be considered NOTHERE. Usually, it's cases of people spamming, using Wikipedia to advertise or promote, etc - and those are typically obvious. I'm not responding here to say that this user is innocent and that they've done nothing wrong; it's certain that there are issues here. I just wanted to go into detail about how we determine if an editor is here or not here and help explain and define the line. The main issue that I see is that the editor is repeatedly adding unsourced content to Para-Commando Brigade (Bangladesh) (an example is their last edit here). I think that the best thing to do to resolve this going forward it to warn the user each time they add unreferenced content to that article, don't allow warnings to "cool down" or "reset" (you know what I mean... when you see that the last time someone was warned was awhile ago, so you don't add a next-level warning... maybe a lower one), and report the user if they continue after repeated warnings. Since their last edit was a few days ago, there's no actions that I can take right now. Doing so would be inappropriate since most administrative actions are to be used with preventative measures in mind; if there's no active disruption occurring at this time, we need to take action when it is. If this issue continues despite multiple warnings for adding unreferenced content, make sure to report the user during the time it's happening at the time and in progress, and administrative action would be considered much more appropriate here. Please let me know if you have any more questions or concerns, and I'll be more than happy to help you further. Thanks again for the message, keep me posted, and I wish you well until the next time I hear from you :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:52, 4 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Dlohcierekim - That would work, lol
TheKinkdomMan - First, let's get you back to the default signature look in your preferences. After we do that, you can go from there and customize your signature if you wish. Make sure that under your preferences options (the User profile tab and under the Signature section) that the text inside the Signature box is empty and the Treat the above as wiki markup option is unchecked or disabled and that you click Save at the bottom to apply your changes. If you did everything right, your existing signature should look now like this in your preferences and next to the "Existing Signature":
Your default signature
TheKinkdomMan (talk)
After you've done this successfully, you now have a clean slate to work from and you can go back and touch things up and customize your signature from there if you'd like. The Wikipedia guideline located here will provide you with all of the examples and tips you'll need in order to create a proper signature that you like. Hi Oshwah!

Could you please redirect this title to David Copperfield? -- 209.52.88.253 (talk) 01:03, 3 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

No, that's full of POV and not acceptable - Is this a book title? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:10, 3 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, it's the full title of David Copperfield, apparently one of over 14 variations of the title that Dickens used for his novel. It's far to long to be a useful redirect, as no one is likely to type all that in anyway. - BilCat (talk) 18:43, 3 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, thanks for letting me know, BilCat. I was gonna say... if that wasn't the exact title of a book or something, then that's a ridiculous redirect to create ;-). I agree; the probability of someone typing that entire thing, capitalized, exactly as-is and expecting to find the article is extremely low. It's not worth creating the redirect at all. My apologies go out to you, 209.52.88.253 - I should have asked my question first instead of wording my response that way. Re-reading it makes it look like I was making the assumption that this was an attempt to add POV and it reads as if I was scolding you or something... haha. Now that I know that this is in fact an exact book title, I don't like how I inadvertently worded that reply. Please let me know if you have any more questions or need anything else, and I'll be happy to help you. Best regards and thanks to you both - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:01, 4 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Osh, If you have time, could you have a look at this edit please? (The ES leaves a lot to be desired also). It's obvious that the content is going to be controversial but it may have a place in the context of the page, where it is quite neutrally worded and is included as part of the history of the subject as ways in which it received comment or criticism. As such, my inclination was to restore it but would like a second opinion. Thanks. Eagleash (talk) 10:53, 4 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Eagleash - Good Lord, what a... what an interesting edit summary there lol. Hmm, that's a toss-up (reading the diff briefly)... on one hand, the references are reliable. However, when I see content saying "(particularly blacks, whom he considered to be genetically inferior to whites[...])", taking any race or controversy out of the equation - that may be considered an opinion if anything. What do the references say in particular about this suggestion? I wonder exactly how this is being asserted and what content in the references support this and what they use to base this off of... that's what I would look at. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:16, 4 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) I revdeled the edit summary, but left the edit as it was. It's possible that's more detail than is required to make the point. --SarekOfVulcan (talk) 15:19, 4 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with SarekOfVulcan - I'd leave it removed for now, or at least until everything is checked. If everything comes together and this content should stay without issue, then it can always be restored at that time ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:27, 4 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Right, thanks both. In the meantime, another editor has picked up the page and made multiple changes. As I don't really have the time to devote to it just now, I shall leave them to 'get on with it' :P. Cheers. Eagleash (talk) 12:18, 5 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Pool listings on NameCoin Page

Dear Oshwah,

Got a message from you regarding removing my

== Mining Pools ==

post on the Name Coin page.

I feel like their is a place for an enclclopedic index of the mining pools for the various cryptocurrencies as they are both part of the coins fundamental infrastructure and a very useful reference for anyone actively participating in the NameCoin (or other cryptocurrencies) community.

Hope you undelete my addition, or can help provide me guidlines in which it would be allowed. Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by KoinKangaroo (talkcontribs) 17:01, 4 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi KoinKangaroo - It seems that you're adding this website to multiple articles and the manner in which it's presented appears to be in order to advertise its existence... are you personally involved with this website or currency in any way? Do you maintain the website, update it, know people that built it, or anything that would create a conflict of interest in this aspect? Let me know. I'm not asking in order to kick and scream at you; I want to help you, but I also want to help you the right way so that you stay clear of any potential issues ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:57, 4 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly Oshwah. I am working for multipool.us and working to cleanup any lack of or misstated information I find online. That said, I appreciate that only adding multipool, seems advertisy, but knowing that this is a community based service, i was under the impression that other pool owners or the public would now have a place to add their pools or relative knowledge. --> In a community sense, i'm happy to add a few pools that i'm not affiliated with to reduce my bias. Also wanted to add this reference http://coinwik.org/, which is an example of how the crypto community is wiki'ing each coin, and does include pool information. — Preceding unsigned comment added by KoinKangaroo (talkcontribs) 19:25, 4 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hi KoinKangaroo and thank you for your honest and candid responses. I appreciate that you're willing to stop, talk, listen, and understand instead of doing what most users do and ignore us and force us to block them and send them away without bothering to understand why... haha. So, to answer your question: a few things you need to know is within Wikipedia's policies - It's not designed for any advertising or promotion, and all content modified or added must reflect a neutral point of view. Going off of the second policy with neutrality: you'll of course understand that editing or contributing to articles or topic areas where you have a personal conflict of interest becomes a problem; underneath it all and based on your edits - it seems that the intent is to add your website to Wikipedia from articles. Ask yourself: would you still be making an effort to ask about or create this list of pools that you don't have a connection with if yours wasn't added to the list? Not by you or anyone? Ever?
Again, I'm not posing these questions to point fingers and imply or make accusations toward you like I'm some detective who found the "wiki bandit" (lol); I'm saying these things to help you understand why neutrality and COI policies and guidelines exist on Wikipedia, and why your edits (and even your ideas stated here) have problems. Users and editors on Wikipedia are expected to contribute to article topics and areas where they have no conflicts of interest or other factors that would otherwise compromise neutrality. There isn't a list of websites like this maintained by people who build it together and then add their own to it because, well - that's not neutral. Plus, good Lord.... think of how many huge lists of non-notable companies, teams, websites, buildings, whatever you think of -- that Wikipedia would have! There of course are articles that are lists of things - we have lots of them, but they're comprised of items that meet our notability guidelines and hence either have their own article or a subsection of another one. I can't go to List of web browsers and add my college software project of a web browser to it... first, I'd be in violation of COI (of course), and secondly that thing isn't notable nor does it meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines... not by a long shot... lol. I hope my response has helped explain why your edits and ideas have issues, and that you understand that I appreciate you for taking the time to message me, respond, listen, and understand. You're of course allowed to make edit requests for other users to review and update the articles themselves if they don't see issues, but I'll tell you that you'll honestly be wasting your time as the users will know what's going on and they'll decline it. If you have any more questions, let me know and I'll be happy to answer them. Thanks again, and best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:43, 4 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for taking the time to break down the wiki policies Oshwah. I'll work on a reproach that isn't biased or include commercial interest, but genuinely contribute to the content for each coin. Do you think that an external link to a "mining pool comparison" specific to each coin would fit that description? Becuase honestly when you posed the questions, would I post this if i wasn't affiliated, the answer honestly is actually yes, becuase as an individual crypto miner, being able to quickly identify available pools would be a major plus on an educational reference guide such as wiki, especially in the case of mineable cryptocurrencies as it truly is a fundamental part of each coins infrastructure and for newbies, often times lost or confusing based on the lack of consistent information available online. If/when i do repost something, i'll make sure to have it edited/reviewed by others. Thanks again for your time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by KoinKangaroo (talkcontribs) 09:48, 5 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thegooduser - Awesome, I just got the notice. You sent the essay along - I'll give that a read and get back to you. Looks like you put a lot of time and work into it. Nice - I'm excited to give it a read ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs)
Do you think I can create the essay now?Thegooduser Let's Chat 23:04, 4 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thegooduser - If you're waiting for me to read it first, I haven't read through it yet. If you're not, then yeah go for it. Won't hurt my feelings lol. Let me know what you decide to do and if you need any help. I'll be happy to lend a hand if you do. Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:12, 4 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yea I was waiting for you to read it.Please and Thank You.Thegooduser Let's Chat 23:13, 4 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Alright give me a few minutes and I'll read it - just finishing up a few things on my to-do list and I'll take a gander. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:15, 4 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thegooduser - I think you're off to a good start here. The introduction is a bit short but it's certainly not bad at all, and you have a list of some some good examples of what you describe as "low-key vandalism" (I'd almost call it sneaky vandalism maybe). It's missing a few things that would improve it and add an overall flow to the essay, but that's absolutely to be expected with that first revision and creating the page is essentially what will help resolve that. Other editors will be able to look at it and give you guidance from there. Writing inspiring and informative essays isn't easy, so don't feel intimidated or that you have to have an idiot like me look through it and give you their blessing or a thumbs-up before you can create it. We all have to start from somewhere before we can learn and do better; don't feel like you have to be "this good" or that what you've written has to be "this awesome" or "this perfect" first. Shoot, look at the first revision of most pages here, and I guarantee you that they'll be quite different than what they are now. Your heart is in the right place and you're doing this in order to help others and hence help improve the project - that's really what's important and what truly matters and nobody should give you a hard time or discourage you. Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:37, 4 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Philippa Baker edit

Hi,

Philippa Baker, the Australian actress, is my mother. Currently her birth year is incorrect on her Wikipedia page. I'm not sure what source I can give you, other than to say I've seen her birth certificate and she was definitely born in 1932. Late 1932 at that.

There doesn't appear to be a citation for the 1931 date. I'd be curious know where it came from.

Amanda — Preceding unsigned comment added by 101.164.253.124 (talkcontribs) 05:16, 5 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You're right... there's no reference at all. I fixed the issue by removing the birthdate added to the article. Thanks for leaving me a message here and for expressing your concern; please let me know if I can help you with anything else and I'll be happy to do so. Happy editing :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:19, 5 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

How do I cite a website which is full of legitimate citations? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.47.181.62 (talkcontribs) 05:16, 5 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You can start by reviewing and understanding Wikipedia's guideline to locating reliable sources, as well as Wikipedia's policy requiring all article content to reflect a neutral point of view. These are two important policies and guidelines that you are having issues with, and reading and following the information outlined on those pages will help you to resolve them. Please let me know if you have any more questions and I'll be happy to help you. Thanks for the message and best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 05:22, 5 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your help

Hi! I'm new to this and working on editing skills. Thanks for giving me info on how to do this! My son, Carson Kropfl, is the inventor of Locker Board skateboards. He was recently on Shark Tank. You can check out his website at Lockerboard.net. I'm trying to learn the system so that I can set him up with a Wikipedia for his company, Locker Board, and for himself. He's starting to do TED Talks and has a lot of press that has happened and more on the way. A friend told me I should get him set up on Wikipedia to help people from around the world find him. His first TEDxKid Talk is going to be available online in a few weeks and will go out to 11 million people. He shared his story (how he got on Shark Tank and landed Sir Richard Branson as his investor at the age of 11) - and it's super inspirational. I think he's going to have a lot of people searching for him when it hits. He inspires people to go after their dreams by seizing the moment, never giving up and believing in themselves. I wanted to get this set up in time so people can learn about him when they see the video. I'm a little overwhelmed trying to figure it out. Any help and information you could send me would be amazing. Thank you so much.

Hi CarrieAnnTanner, and welcome to Wikipedia! Have you taken Wikipedia's new user tutorial yet? If not, I highly recommend that you go through and complete the tutorial entirely before you do anything else. Else, you'll be missing out on very key important policies and guidelines that will help you to understand how to contribute as positively as possible here as well as why it's not appropriate to add content to articles about someone you know personally (things such as Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, conflict of interest guideline, and how the community interacts and discuses disputes or problems). If you have any questions or need any more help after completing the new user tutorial, come back to my talk page here any time and don't hesitate to ask me for more help... I'll be more than happy to lend you a hand. Again, I welcome you to Wikipedia, I hope you enjoy your stay here, and I wish you happy editing :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:52, 5 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding Justinian I

My University of Hawaii exam has a section on Justinian I and his connection to Macedonia, I supplied references providing supporting evidence to include the information that was provided, did you review my citations prior to removing the expansion conducted? If wikipedia does not wish to display the information requested by my College course, I can search else where and accept my professors statements regards the corruption of Wikipedia as valid and current, is this what wikipedia stands for? — Preceding unsigned comment added by CancerianOx (talkcontribs) 17:28, 5 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi CancerianOx, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thanks for leaving me a message here with your concerns. The reason that I reverted your edit here to Justinian I was because you added content that also injected adjectives and opinions into it, which is in conflict with Wikipedia's policy and requirement for all article content to reflect a neutral point of view. The issues with your edit that I noticed include calling the article subject's education "excellent", or the subject a "mature man" at the moment of his enthronement, and even listing two facets of Justinian’s foreign policy that you felt were the most important - these kinds of descriptions and wording are what steer content toward non-neutral wording and commentary, and are things we need to avoid doing at all when editing articles or adding content. I also owe you an apology: you made two edits to the article and I only meant to revert the one I cited above; I've restored your first edit and I'm sorry for accidentally undoing both. If you have any questions or need any assistance, please let me know and I'll be happy to help you. Again, I welcome you to Wikipedia, I appreciate your message, and I wish you happy editing :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:40, 5 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Anti-Vandalism against sock-puppeteer

Thanks a lot Oshwah, but I would just like to let you know that this Sock puppeteer User:Kishfan is the original mastermind behind all this edit warring in the first place. He has been continually vandalising multiple pages and has smartly used multiple aliases to trick other users defending against Vandalism and get them banned on the context of edit warring while he himself has been able to escape the consequences of this actions. I kindly request that action be taken against this user immediately. Wolf Cola (talk) 20:30, 5 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Wolf Cola! Thanks for the message and for the information - I'll take a look into what you're presenting here and see what evidence and information I can pull up. Let me know if I can help you with anything, and I'll be happy to do so. Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:33, 5 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
He is actually vandalising many other articles also, I am tempted to revert his disruptive changes but I am avoiding it as I do not want to start a similar situation of edit warring. What can be done about this? Thanks. Wolf Cola (talk) 20:52, 5 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
