    CHATEAUSOLEIL Who is "us"? Only a single person should have access to and be operating your account. Regarding your question, list articles such as the one you edited should only have people listed who already have an article on Wikipedia, or at a minimum has an independent reliable source to support the content. 331dot (talk) 11:32, 1 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
    While the person in question (Austin Fernando) does have an article about him, you did not provide a wikilink to that article.     CHATEAUSOLEIL I notice that "Chateau Soleil" is the name of several companies and other entities. If you are associated with any such entity (and perhaps otherwise) you cannot use this as a user name, since it implies a group user. Please see WP:USERNAME. you may go through the elaborate username change process, or you may simply abandon this username and create a new account.     Userpage Templates

    I've seen some Userpage Templates that I like and want to use. But I couldn't seem to find anything talking about the rules of them. I don't want to get in trouble for using a user page template.     Hi, ARegularWisconsinite. It sounds as if GoingBatty thinks you mean "warning templates you might put on other people's user talk pages", and has advised you accordingly.     ARegularWisconsinite, that's pretty much it. I'm guessing your concern is: "are you allowed to use templates that others have created for (presumably) their own use?" Everything on Wikipedia is covered by WP:CC BY-SA, so you are allowed to take someone else's edits here and build upon them.     No eplicit attribution is needed, since you cannot use a template without adding its name to your page source. If you copied the text of a template inn order to make a customne template of your own, you would need explicit attribution. -Arch dude (talk) 20:13, 1 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Basically yes. If the source code itself provides a way for an interested editor to see where the original "creative elements" came from, then no further attribution is needed. If you do a copy-and-paste, then you must attribute the source, per Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. This is just my common-sense interpretation: If in interested editor has a way to see where the information came from, then the requirement for attribution is satisfied. -Arch dude (talk) 20:50, 1 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
    ARegularWisconsinite - Sorry for misunderstanding! I have added lots of userbox templates on my userpage, presuming that people create userboxes for everyone to use. When I copied a whole table from someone and pasted it in my userpage, I gave an attribution to the user as a courtesy, but don't know if they ever saw it or care.     Hello, Phumzile Nozinyo. Do you mean you would like a picture of yourself on your user page? If so, you need to upload a picture which you have the copyright to to Wikimedia Commons: it's easiest using the Upload wizard. When you have got it uploaded, it will tell you the string you need to put on your user page to display the picture. If you have a selfie, that's easiest. If you want a picture that somebody else took, then they probably hold the copyright, and it's easiest to ask them to upload the picture to Commons.
    I sugget you have a look at User pages to see what is allowed on user pages. You're allowed to have a limited amount of information about you that is not related to your work as a Wikipedia editor, but promotion or advertising is not allowed. I don't think anybody will object to the amount you say about your work at present, but please don't include any more promotion about it. --ColinFine (talk) 09:54, 2 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    "Wikibious" appears to be a misinformation website posing as wikibios.

    While researching a very odd story concerning the assault of Senator Tim Carpenter in Madison, WI., I came across a couple of articles that claim to have been written by Anne Tyler. The articles are about one Samantha Hamer and Kerida O'Reilly, who allegedly assaulted the Senator during a BLM protest in Madison, WI. A Google search of their names brings up the articles on one wikibious.com.

    I am dropping this note out of concern for Ms. Tyler's good name and Wikibios alike. I trust Wikipedia has means to combat this type of misinformation, and wish all of you well.

    As far as I can tell, there is no Wikimedia project titled as such, and so do not have anything to do with Wikimedia. They look more like blogs powered by Wordpress. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 00:42, 2 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
    The term Wiki refers to a type of software (there are hundreds such) and to the sites that any of use this software (there are tens of thousands of such). The term predates the MediaWiki software that The WMF uses.     Footnotes in headings

    It seems to me that an article on "British " political parties ought to be an article on "UK" political parties, since Ireland was an important part of British politics up to 1921 and beyond, and Northern Ireland is still an important part of British politics. Sinn Fein ought to be included not as a footnote but as a separate section in just the same way as the Conservative, Labour and Liberal parties. The same goes for the various Ulster Unionist, Scots Nationalist parties and Plaid Cymru. Where should one stop?     There is an article called "List of political parties in the United Kingdom". It is not just a list. There is some text and and most of the parties listed have blue links.     Now I see the point of the original question having seen the sandbox draft. I think that where the party operates in two parliaments (eg the Dail and the Northern Ireland Assembly or the UK Parliament and the Scottish Parliament) that fact should appear as normal text in the article before the table for the relevant party. In each case you could say as text in the table if the leader was leader of the party in general or in a particular parliament or both if it be the case.     Hello, Laika. I'm afraid that you (and Universal Music France) have a misunderstanding of what Wikipedia is: it is not social media or a directory, it is an encyclopaedia, which contains neutrally written articles about notable subjects, based almost entirely on independent published materials. The article Laïka Fatien is not your page, it is Wikipedia's article about you, and UMF should not have created it, at least, not without declaring their Conflict of interest. The article is likely to get deleted, unless somebody posts enough suitable independent reliable published sources to establish that you meet Wikipedia's criteria for notability. (I'm not saying you don't, just that the article does nothing to establish that you do).
    Having said that, you're welcome to upload and add a picture, provided that the copyright holder (which will usually be the photographer, not you, unless you have an agreement that specifically assigns copyright to you) is willing to license the picture under a copyleft licence such as CC-BY-SA, (which will allow anybody to reuse or modify the image for any purpose). If you or your photographer wishes to do that, please use the Upload wizard.
    As for translating into French: there was a French article fr:Laïka Fatien, but it has been moved to fr:Utilisateur:Hannah Swerve/Laïka Fatien, and is also at risk of deletion unless some reliable sources are provided.     The only way to keep from seeing such a message is to create an account and choose that option in your account Preferences.     How do I include my organization's logo on our Wikipedia page? I've tried to upload the original logo file as well as a screenshot of the file, but Wikipedia keeps saying it cannot determine if the file complies with their terms and that I can only upload a photo I've taken with my camera.     PATHFoundationAtlanta First, you should create a new account with a username that reflects that a specific individual is exclusively operating your account(your real name is not required, just something unique to you). Something like "JoePublic of PATHFoundation" would be acceptable. Once you do that, you will need to read and formally comply with the conflict of interest and paid editing policies(the latter is a Terms of Use requirement and mandatory).

    @Profcramkumar: It appears that you have written an autobiography at Draft:Dr. C. Ram Kumar. Wikipedia doesn't have profiles, it has encyclopedia articles.     And the reason that Wikipedia doesn't have profiles, Profcramkumar, is that profiles are generally written by or for the subject. In an encyclopaedia article about you, Wikipedia basically has no interest in anything that you say or want to say about yourself, or that your associates or institutions say about you.     How to edit/update the language template of a <> Code block

    To summarize, ZFT, a topic is notable, and therefore eligible for a Wikipedia article, if it has received significant coverage in published independent, reliable sources. Every word in that summary is very important to understanding the concept, and these words are interpreted based on the 19+ year history of this encyclopedia.     Notability, and What Wikipedia Is Not (^I accidentally clicked enter before I was finished)

    "Notability" seems to me to be a somewhat vague concept. What exactly constitutes "notability"; and why isn't merely the state of having a significant amount of factual/accurate/coherent information written about it, and being widely referred to (or in some way related to something that is widely referred to), not sufficient alone for a subject's inclusion? In other words, why can't Wikipedia be an "[almost] indiscriminate collection" of organized information (excluding original research, for I understand Wikipedia is not a place to publish original content)?

    For example, concerning the franchise Dungeons and Dragons, which as a whole is notable, I've noticed that there have been many articles about characters, races, places, etc., that have been deleted recently. Where, exactly, is the dividing line between "notable" and "not notable" when it comes to fictional elements of a notable franchise, and what is the purpose behind placing that line where it is?     @ZFT:; When it comes to fictional elements of a notable franchise, the question of what should have an independent article vs. be covered in the context of the fictional franchise isn't so much a question of "notability" as one of due weight, avoiding coatracking, and basic article development. Basically, a fictional character should not have an independent article unless there is so much reliably sourced information that is able to be presented in a real-world context that it would overwhelm the base article (on the book, novel, tv series, movie, comic book series, game, franchise, whatever). ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 16:51, 3 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Citing how widely cited a paper is

    I made the claim that Yeo 2011 is widely cited, which it is. Google & Bing searches show it is cited 3365 times. citeseer show it has 20 pages of references, but none of those are stable URLS. I did various searches, but the only results are neuroscience journals pushing their own journals. Do you have any ideas for how create a valid citation?     Substituting a dead source?

    I'm currently trying to improve an article by adding new information to it: "Work This Body". If the category itself has ever been edited, so it has some content (eg a description, or a parent category), then it is not empty, and will not be deleted except through the CFD process.     Please read Your First Article I can only evaluate the cited sources using Google Translate, which is only of limited value, a fluent speaker of the proper language (Hindi?) would be needed to do a proper review. I note that the first ref ( 4pilla) seems to have significant coverage of Jaiswal. However I don't know how reliable this source may be. Some other sources don't permit copying, so i can't even use Google Translate to judge their content. One other looks as if it might be substantial, but again i can't judge reliability.
    Please understand that that an article, particularly an article about a living person requires several independent published reliable sources, each of which must include significant coverage of the subject, not a passing mention to demonstrate notability. Each of those key sources, usually three to five of them, must be all ofmthe4sae, independent, reliable, and have significant coverage. Also too many sources, especicially too many week sources, is as bad as too few. It buries the high-quality sources. You can ask about a specific source at the reliable source noticeboard if you are not sure if it will count.
    I did some light copy-editing of Draft:Roshni Kushal Jaiswal for formatting and grammar. In an article the subject should always be refered to by last (family) name alone.
    Please read referenching for beginners. Please use Named references top combine repeated use of the same source. Please use |trans-title= and |trans-work= to show the title and publication name of sources not in English, if at all possible. Please do not list the publication name in |first=, |last=, or |author=; those are only for the actual people who wrote the source, when those are known.

    @Félix An: I'm not familiar with Grammarly, but anything that helps produce better quality writing would seem to be a good thing, assuming there are no strings attached to publishing the result here. I doubt it supports wiki syntax, so you'd be editing plain text with it, then copy/pasting the result into the wiki editor to do the wiki markup (linking, references, etc.), just as you would do if you were writing in Microsoft Word or another word processor.     In other words, even information that you "know" from family sources is not acceptable on Wikipedia. Information must be cited to a published, reliable, independent source (click the link for details). This is not only for the purpose of verifiability, but it is often the case that information passed down through generations by word of mouth will change over time, sometimes intentionally embellishing/glorifying the subject (a natural conflict of interest) or sometimes unintentionally (as is demonstrated by the children's game "telephone"). That's why we need to rely on a published source with a reputation for doing their own research and fact-checking before publishing something.     I am referring to the very bottom of the page on mobile, that user to say “last edited 5 minutes ago by mikemikem” and I could click on that and it would show me all of the recent edits

    I should have clarified, this is only in the mobile version. At the bottom of the page, under all of the references, under the “Categories” box, is a green bar, and in that green bar it would say “Last edited X minutes ago by Mikemikem” or whoever else last edited the page, and it could be clicked on and pull up the edit history.

    Successfully creating a new Wikipedia article(not just a mere "page") is the absolute hardest task to perform on Wikipedia. It takes much time and practice. New users greatly increase their chances of success if they first spend much time editing existing articles in areas that interest them, to get a feel for how Wikipedia operates and what is expected of article content.
    However, if you still want to attempt to create a new article, you may use Articles for Creation to create and submit a draft, though I would read Your First Article beforehand. If you work for this college, you will need to review and formally comply with the paid editing policy, and you should also review conflict of interest. This college will need to receive significant coverage in independent reliable sources that have chosen on their own to write about the college, and those sources must show how the college meets the special Wikipedia definition of a notable organization.     Maproom, notoriously, the USSR forced plenty of internal migration (often via cattle truck and the like) on its citizens. It was common for Ukrainians to be sent to such places and forced to remain there.
