Nissan Tiida

The Nissan Tiida is a subcompact car manufactured by Nissan, replacing both the long-running Pulsar and the Sunny models in its home market as of September 30, 2004. The Tiida is not based on the Nissan C platform like the Renault Mégane, but rather the Nissan B platform with the wheelbase stretched.

Its styling was previewed with the Nissan C-Note show car a year before its launch. The models are characterized by being quite tall, a trend that resurfaced in the late 1990s. The range consists of a five-door hatchback and a four-door sedan called the Nissan Tiida Latio. In New Zealand there is an additional stationwagon variant, based from the Nissan Wingroad.

In North America, it is called the Versa. North and Latin American models of the Tiida uses a DOHC 1.8 L gasoline engine and is assembled at Nissan's Aguascalientes, Mexico assembly plant. In China, the Tiida is produced by the Dongfeng Motor Company, a joint venture between Nissan and a local company. In Southeast Asia, it is known simply as the Nissan Latio(The Tiida word is left out).

Nissan Versa

The Nissan Versa is the North American name for the Tiida, on sale beginning with the 2007 model year in North America. It is available in sedan or hatchback form.

The North American Versa debuted at the 2006 North American International Auto Show in January of the same year. The hatchback model will be introduced first, with the sedan arriving later at the end of the year. Both will be 2007 models. The Versa is powered by a 1.8 L I4 MR series engine producing 122 hp (91 kW) and 127 ft·lbf (170 N·m). Three transmissions will be offered; a 4-speed automatic, a continuously variable transmission, and a 6-speed manual. It is the only car in its class (in the North American market) to offer bluetooth, a 6-speed manual transmission as options. It is rumored that the 2008 model year may bring an SE or SE-R version with the 1.8 liter engine, making a little more power, an upgraded suspension, and ultra-low sulfur diesel engines. Nissan may also add the 3D navigation system as an option. Currently, prices range from US$12,000 to $15,500.

In Canada, the Versa will fill the gap in Nissan's lineup since the discontinuation of the Micra in 1991.
