    Regarding your article "Caught"

Article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caught You added the reference improve template in September 2012. But why does this article need more citations? The current citation to the Lords website is the definitive source for any law of the sport cricket. Any additional citation CANNOT add additional points as not stated in the Lords laws, and as such will not do anything but duplicate what already was in the Lords Law.

    So, why exactly?

PS: The current citations reference the law "Bowled" when they actually should refer to Caught. As I stated above, the cricinfo sources are unnecessary since the Lords Laws are the single definitive source of all knowledge on cricket laws.

That's because articles need multiple references to demonstrate notability. Armbrust The Homunculus 17:08, 14 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    CFD: C2A vs.C2B?

Was something wrong with my CFD for "Shipwrecks of the Spanish-American War"? C2A clearly covers "Appropriate conversion of hyphens into en dashes or vice versa". Removing the CFD and then reinserting it resets the clock on the 48-hour waiting period, but I don't see any benefit from it. Does C2B have some advantage? This makes me feel like I am missing something. Chris the speller yack 15:10, 9 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The top of WP:CFDS says "They must be tagged with {{subst:cfr-speedy|New name}} so that users of the categories are aware of the proposal." And it was easier to tag the category with WP:Twinkle. Armbrust The Homunculus 18:06, 9 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
OK. I'll try not to miss that step next time. I have done a few of these, but it has been quite a while. Thanks for catching my slip-up. Chris the speller yack 20:55, 9 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    2018 Romanian Masters

    Hi Armbrust,

Why would you move 2018 Romanian Snooker Masters to 2018 Romanian Masters and said that "not part of the tournaments name"? The tournament's full name is "Romanian Snooker Masters", you can see that from their facebook page[1], the logo of the tournament and the articles posted by World Snooker[2][3]--QBear (talk) 05:15, 19 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for closing this featured picture nomination and notifying me of promotion. I noticed my image's page on Commons does not note its Featured status by showing the star badge like other featured images. Is this an automated process that will happen in the next few days, or do I need to do it? Also, will it be scheduled at a Picture of The Day on Wikipedia? How does all of this work. I've seen other featured images have all of these things, but I never really knew how they happened. Any insight into the process is appreciated. Steevven1 (Talk) (Contribs) (Gallery) 23:58, 13 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The template (commons:Template:Assessments) to indicate the images featured status needs to be added by someone, there is not automated process for it. It was previously done by Julia W.
The scheduling of POTDs is done by Crisco 1492, so you should ask him about that. Armbrust The Homunculus 09:10, 14 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I still do it, just too infrequently these days! I'll start a run this evening to catch up on them all. Julia\talk 08:56, 16 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    DYK file

Re: File:80 - Machu Picchu - Juin 2009 - edit.2.jpg is duplicative local categorisation needed though? Hundreds of DYK images have only had the template and category added on Commons. Furthermore, the banner now appears twice on the description for English Wikipedia users, which strikes me as unnecessary... —innotata 03:57, 7 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

That categorisation is used on almost 10000 files, so removing it from only one file isn’t really a good idea. Armbrust The Homunculus 04:01, 7 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
There's no reason most of those can't be moved gradually to the identically structured Commons category, which is why the Commons category was created. I fail to see how this takes away from any maintenance. Maybe best to bring this up at the DYK project talk page though it seems obvious to me. —innotata 04:14, 7 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    1933 Double eagle

    Hi Armbrust

It seems a bit like splitting hairs to me, not to include the 1933 eagle in the featured set, just because it was promoted at a different time. It clearly fits with the others, it's featured just like they are, and surely the purpose of such a set is to be useful to the commnunity as a set, not to have one separate just for WP:Wikilawyeringing reasons? Thanks  — Amakuru (talk) 21:16, 3 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but stating that an image was promoted in a nomination, which doesn't even mentions the picture, is just plain missleading. Armbrust The Homunculus 00:41, 4 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Q re an edit of yours on WP:EL/P

Hi — re the change to put a Supplement template on WP:EL/P, I haven't been able to find an RfC or other discussion. Can you point me to such? (I did find Wikipedia talk:External links/Perennial websites/Archive 2#RfC: Proposal for promotion of Wikipedia:External links/Perennial websites to a guideline which ends w a mention of ‘supplement’ but there's no discussion specific to that.) Speedy Rename - Help Me Please

I was confused by your undoing of my request for a speedy rename of a category ([[4]]). You said, "Read the lead before listing pages here." I had read it and thought the category applied under the criteria WP:C2D as stated. I was directed to this page by policies such as C2D. At the top of the page, regarding C2D, it states, "after a page move discussion resulted in explicit consensus to rename" which I considered the link I provided to show. Is this considered too controversial given the latter clarification on that criteria, "If the page names are controversial or ambiguous in any way, then this criterion does not apply," or did I miss something else? I'm trying to follow through with this and have not done this before. Using "pro-choice" as a title seems to go against WP:NPOV. In accord with having a neutral point of view, the groups who usually call themselves "pro-life" are labeled "anti-abortion" and those who usually call themselves "pro-choice" are labeled, "abortion rights" while listing their own self-description after the main title. >> M.P.Schneider,LC (parlemusfeci) 19:54, 23 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@MPSchneiderLC: What I meant is actually higher on the page. It's "Tag category with {{subst:cfr-speedy|New name}}". Also this applies for every page you want to rename through this process, and they all need to be listed on the page. Armbrust The Homunculus 19:59, 23 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Can you offer some history on the "Car" vs "Automobile" discussion?

I'm looking at this recent category name change and wondering about the history here as well as at the Car article. This looks like a name change that had been going on for a while. Do you know why it changed in October? Jamie Clarke Snooker player

Why did you change the above player's name to Jamie Rhys Clarke? . Clarke has clearly stated he wants to be know as Jamie Clarke ok ?. Also World Snooker call him by his proper name Jamie Clarke 92.251.198.88 (talk) 18:58, 12 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

That was because of several objections to that at WT:SNOOKER. It was clearly states, that if you want that change to happen than you need to initiate an WP:RM on the talk page. Armbrust The Homunculus 19:01, 12 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I don't care what it states you are wrong to include Rhys in his name when the player has directly stated his name is Jamie Clarke ok 92.251.198.88 (talk) 20:35, 12 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
His name was correctly changed after much chat on here and I did not see anyone complaining. 92.251.198.88 (talk) 20:37, 12 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

    ArmbrustBot

Would you be able and willing to take over Cydebot's functions at WP:CFD/W? I know ArmbrustBot is approved for this task, but I am not sure what would be needed to fully transition. I posted a message at Cyde's talk page a few months ago, but he is no longer active (just 4 edits in 2018) and has not responded. I'd be happy to start a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Categories for discussion/Working if that's what's needed...

My main concern with Cydebot right now is that it creates a category redirect in most (though, oddly enough, not all) cases of renaming or merging. While this is fine in some cases (e.g. Swaziland → Eswatini), it is problematic and leads to miscategorization in others (e.g. Category:ABL templatesCategory:Australian Baseball League templates, where "ABL" is highly ambiguous). In general, I don't think a bot should be creating pages without more specific parameters or direct human guidance.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts. Thanks, -- Black Falcon (talk) 22:46, 26 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Quite honestly, it's good as a backup. The renaming of categories is almost completely manual and the re-categorization needs to be initiated manually. Armbrust The Homunculus 09:10, 27 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough, and thank you for answering. In that case, it seems like the best option would be to request a new primary CfD bot at WP:BOTREQ. -- Black Falcon (talk) 18:39, 27 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    Europa mosaic in featured pictures

Regarding the promotion of the alternate Europa mosaic, I'd like to make a couple of points. You promoted it with only 4 votes in support. Was that your intent? Also, the vote on a featured picture candidate has no relevance to what version of an image is used in articles in English or any other version of Wikipedia. That is entirely up to the discretion of the editors of the article in question. WolfmanSF (talk) 07:00, 29 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I assumed that The NMI User supports both version, as he didn't indicate which versions he supported. If he doesn't, than he should contact me, and I happily reverse the promotion. (BTW the replacement with the promoted image is in the closing instructions since 2008.) Armbrust The Homunculus 08:06, 29 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I see. Actually, the alternate version didn't exist when he made his nomination, so I think his intent was clear. Also, given that the initial version was voted as a featured image in Wikimedia Commons without any ambiguities, the replacement recommendation probably doesn't apply in this case. File:Gray contrast test image.svg

Hi, I just calibrated a new monitor, and noticed that the shadow test file I created, shown on the FPC page has been altered from my original - someone has made an svg of the original jpeg, and changed the RGB values so they don't agree with my original. If people use the svg for calibration, their monitors will be set too light. Can't figure out how to correct this (I'm not familiar with swg), but please look at my original, here: with values 6,12,26,38 (the svg shows up as 1,4,19 and 33 on my Mac, at least...)- regards, --Janke | Talk 10:38, 17 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    Page move

The Alien article should be moved back to Alien (fictional species), per more recent consensus at Talk:Predator (fictional species)#Requested move 13 January 2018 where the "Creature in ___ franchise" DAB was rejected for the reasons already outlined when I moved the Alien article. The discussion you cited was from seven years ago. DarkKnight2149 01:55, 6 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, skimming through the original move discussion, there were concerns that "Alien (fictional species)" wasn't specific enough. Still, I have some objections to that reasoning as well. This is a topic that would require a larger move discussion, though. DarkKnight2149 02:15, 6 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
