Recent Project News
  • Time Times I, Zginder, have started this the official newsletter of the project. This newsletter is part of the Time Times, which has been created to update our members on the latest news at the project and on time.
  • This first posting is late because I did not even come up with the idea until 2008-03-08. In the future I plan to have it ready to publish before the month begins. (If anyone should do things on time on Wikipedia it should be us, no?)
  • Article count over 800! By my count we now have 873 articles but, will have many more soon. Less than 200 are assessed though, plenty of work for us to do.
  • Portal:Time now working thanks to Yamara.
  • Project member count reaches 11 members! Keep inviting all your WikiFriends.
  • Remember: The project is now accessible from new shortcuts, WP:TIME and WP:TIMEPRO.
  • Project gets a new look thanks to Yamara, if you have not seen it yet stop on by.

Vaishnavism's relation to Vedic religion

Hello John Carter. I have added the above discussion (from the Krishna talk page) to the Vaishnavism Wikiproject talk page at, Vaishnavism's relation to Vedic religion. Please feel free to add any comments. Thanks. Ism schism (talk) 17:04, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello John, if you'd like a clear scholarly perspective on Vaishnavism beyond all the pov disputes, then I would recommend Gavin Floods An Introduction to Hinduism, see: Chapter 6 - "The love of Vishnu". ISBN 81-7596-028-0. All the best, Gouranga(UK) (talk) 21:46, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Films coordinator elections

The WikiProject Films coordinator selection process is starting. We are aiming to elect five coordinators to serve for the next six months; if you are interested in running, please sign up here by March 28! Girolamo Savonarola (talk) 09:40, 15 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know whether you agree but while I think the coordinator thing is good to operate films, I find the "Lead coordinator" thing and "elections" a little pretentious. Does it have to be so political?

Anyway I would deeply appreciate you taking the time to sort out the french commune banner -only admins are permitted to edit the french template. Could you please state to them what you are doing and get something set up like you have done for all those hundreds of other task forces? Cheers ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 16:02, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, well yes I fully agree that the more coordination a project gets the better its just the "lead" coordinator sounds a bit domineering -perhaps its just me. But I don't think it matters if it means that assessment in WP:Films is improved and made more reliable. I just tend to not approve of turning into a bureacracy though, where editors are seen as above the other project members (but if this is what it takes for everything to improve then I fully support it). It should work out OK though. I was amazed we have 10,000 new film article sin the last few months -I have no idea where they all came from as I rarely see a film in the new pages -its usually only Lugnuts' silent film articles and the occasional Indian film stubs I see. ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 16:20, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Probbably just communes=yes would be the easiest I would think ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 16:28, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I just learned that somebody has removed Category:Castles in France and merged it into Category:Chateaux in France where as you know a chateau is generally a distinguished stately home or palace rather than a tradional castle type building , instead we have a category named Category:Fortified French châteaux which sounds ridiculous. Would you support a move back to Category:Castles in France ? ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 17:49, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Any developments on the french banner? I noticed you also commented at the Jimbo Wales resignation proposal. People blow things all out of proportion don't they with all sorts of allegations. ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 19:08, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Copying pages to your userspace pending deletion

John, I know you've been copying several alleged portals/projects to userspace as part of the deletion process. I got thinking this may not be such a good idea. I'm not sure how you're doing it, if you're copying the history then fine (but why? you're an admin and can access the deleted page); but you can see from my comments to User:Abd when he recently decided to solve the deletion discussion at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Portal:Chiism(Godianism) the way he and User:Obuibo Mbstpo are wont to do, that I consider this a bad idea. I realize he was doing it for a point, whereas you were doing it to preserve the data in case it was required later, but the issue is very likely the same. An ordinary copy/paste would destroy the history. Just something to consider. My comments to Abd are in that discussion and further at User talk:Abd#Please don't ever do this again. Your thoughts on this are desired as I may be completely out to lunch on this, your comments about my knowledge of copyrights notwithstanding.--Doug.(talk contribs) 12:40, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Red links

The coverage of List of Estonian actors is quite brilliant don't you think? That page would make a bull go crazy ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 18:41, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I know it shows how little we cover things like this and evne the blue links we have are poor stubs mostly. Earlier I did a google search for about five or six names in it at random and I found each one to be what would be considered notable enough for wikipedia -e.g graduated from respected Tallinn drama school and was a performer in a major theatre etc or in some tv series. There is likely to be some names more notable than others in there. If some editor decides some are non notable then they can be whittled down later but this reveals gaping holes in the content of our project. I'm having an extremely productive and diverse day of editing today, I have been looking through categories in various foreign wikis and been astounded by the disproportion of articles -I've been looking at norwegian, swedish, danish, finnish estonian, latvian, romanian and slovenian wikis today. I roughly translated Carlos Conca , a Chilean scientist earlier but it will need proof reading and I've got the first Gabonese painter and poet started Aida Touré. I think categories on other wikipedia and entries should be checked for notability and then at least stubbed in english. This is what I intend doing in places. I went through the Romanian poets A earlier - we now have at least 6 or 7 new articles as a result which I hope any romanian speakers will expand. Can't fault me for trying through ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 20:56, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The way I see it is it that you have to look at the product of wikipedia across the various wikis and really take note of the articles generated by people in their native languages and countries and observe their articles. This way we can begin to think about setting out the articles or stubbing them into english in an even way and hope more native speakers who want to contribute to english wikipedia come along and expand them. I;ve seen it happen on many occasions -I remain optimistic21:06, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

Ah the estonian list was quickly lifted from the estonian wikipedia -the List of Finnish painters also from finnish wikipedia category and the List of streets in Oslo which many articles on Norwegian wikipedia show that many of them are notable and can be written into full articles. I did check some of them earlier and there are some quite detailed articles - Niels Juels Street and Ring 3 (Oslo) are some examples of notable roads -(it blows my head though to think too much about missing content) Lists are a good way I think of revealing what is missing and serve as work pages for editors to hungrily attack (hopefully) . The sky is the limit really on how much everybody could potentially develop things. But yes overall I've put in quite a lot of work on various stuff today, particularly the Carlos Conca article. I still think the best way to highlight the articles on other wikipedias is to generate various lists and then at least they are linked ready for starting at a later date. This is better than hiding them I feel ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 21:14, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mmm yes I think it is a very good idea to generate missing article lists behind the main space by country in the various fields. I will keep this in mind - I would like to see more consideration by each wikiproject and the missing encyclopedia articles project of doing this, I think to accompany all of the wikiprojects you;ve set up each pages could have the section Missing articles and the page lists linked -e.g WikiProject Estonia with the /Missing articles and this done by country to sort of plan out needed areas of development and to identify just eactly what is missing. A sort of catalogue of missing articles is exactly what we need. I would be very grateful if you could help setting these pages up to at least give a basis to build upon ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 21:29, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If the missing articles are outrageously huge which for many countries there will be it could later be organized e.g

etc

But first things first . The missing article section andlink needs adding to each of the country wikiprojects first. If we want to increase the scope and coverage by country it would be a good idea to puruse this ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 21:35, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

E.g see Wikipedia:WikiProject Gabon ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 21:39, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes obviously several wikiprojects have something along these lines already but many of them are not developed yet. See Wikipedia:WikiProject Estonia/Missing articles now -which is linked in the main project page. Providing these can only increase traffic to the missing pages and try to encourage editors who are from these countries or speak the language to try tackle one or two.

Care to join me at Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/Slovenia. I'm currently the only member ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 22:05, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unbelievable - Slovenia like many of those central european countries like Austria, the new Czechoslovakian and Yugslav states are centres for the arts and baroque architecture -you know the fine arts and classical music and buildings and such. The cities are absolutely plastered in cool buildings -have a look at the category for Ljubljana at the commons. Yet we didn't until a minute ago have one article on a palace or a gallery in Slovenia!! Ljubljana looks very much like Vienna, and we both know what that city looks like (in the real world not on wiki!) ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 22:22, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I rather like the look of Slovenia and Ljubljana -it looks cool I think -very stylish indeed and at present there is crap all about it and there wasn't a single project member. Tomorrow I think I'll create a a city template and red link over twenty articles on various notable buildings and landmarks and topics using the commons.

There we are I created Template:Ljubljana. I'll add the missing ones tomorrow or later perhaps ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 22:49, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I;ve developed Ljubljana today. Check out St. Nicholas Cathedral, Ljubljana, Sela Castle etc etc in the nav box -even Ljubljana Zoo lol. It makes such a difference when there is plenty of info in english and images!! Also see Mining in Burundi I'm thinking about starting a Mining in Africa series.

Will do, I'll create a foundation template later, mining plays a very important part in the African economy in many countries. I asked somebody to write the Mining in South Africa article when the core articles were highlighted back in late November but incredibly articles like Mining in Sierra Leone are still missing which is a seriously important African economic article diamonds, gold etc.

Evidently we both know the reason behind Mongolia's "unwillingness", if I'm not mistaken some "bird is showing up after hours" correct? This is the same reason why Kyrgzstan and Uzbekistan etc don't have any assessments yet because of somebody's stubborness?

Anyway I'm loving the baroque architectire of Lbjublana. Check my newest Gruber Palace -I'll reference it now ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 17:16, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the complement, but the section doesn't seem to have done what I'd hoped. I'd wanted both sides, especially Slam and Spshu, to step back and actually look at what they're doing. But it's seems to have just moved the SOSO from the section above down.

But I'll take a look...

Your gracious gift

My dear Mr Carter, one must thank you for the 'barnstar', whatever that may be. Is it similar to something that James Stewart might have worn in Destry Rides Again? I am particularly fond of Mr Stewart, as he was of me, but therein lies another story.... I can assure you that a lady would never be seen wearing such a trinket as a corsage, but one appreciates the gesture.

By the way, you appear to have dropped the 'u' in humour, much as that blasted man Jago has just dropped the silver salver bearing my evening corpse reviver. Your mistake was entirely unintentional, I am sure. Jago, I am not so sure. It is the second time he has done it this evening, and he seems to spend an inordinate amount of time watching my maidservant Henrietta bending over to clear up the mess. I shall have to have words.

I have a question...

Hey John; I don't know if you remember me, I formed the WikiProject Kabbalah. I have a question about the way I edit. I see that you're an administrator now, but I wanted to know if you knew of an administrator who specializes in editing who could help me out. It could be anybody but if you feel your qualified than I could just ask you. But if you feel you're not could you refer me to one? By the way, I don't want to put myself up for review because that's part of the problem. Anyway, that's it; please let me know on my talk page. Lighthead þ 07:09, 22 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. Its just I wish there was some way I could be elected to have more tools which would help me with me work on here. Sometimes the only way I could do it is to be an admin but I am indecisive as I feel I may get tied down with council stuff which is not what I am about ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 21:53, 22 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I might consider it, but I doubt it although I have obviously done a lot of central work on the film project. I'm not dedicating so much time to films these days anyway like I used to, although this might change once I have made some headway with the africa/undeveloped world countries and cities.

By the way yesterdat I created

Merging WikiProjects

John Carter, I am curious to know why several WikiProjects have never been merged. I am referring to Wikipedia:WikiProject United Arab Emirates. You left a message on my talk page in early February here: User talk:Leitmanp#UAE work group. I responded with this message: User talk:John Carter#WikiProjects relating to the UAE. Since you never responded, I assumed you agreed to my proposal of merging Wikipedia:WikiProject Abu Dhabi, Wikipedia:WikiProject Sharjah, Wikipedia:WikiProject Ajman, Wikipedia:WikiProject Fujairah, Wikipedia:WikiProject Ras al-Khaimah and Wikipedia:WikiProject Umm al-Quwain into WikiProject UAE.

If you disagree to this merger, can you at least make several changes? By going to Talk:Dibba and clicking "[show]," you can see that both WikiProject UAE and WikiProject Fujairah (which has an incorrect flag; how do you change it?) are listed. I think that since Fujairah is a part of the United Arab Emirates, it should not be counted twice. I propose that by listing an article in WikiProject Fujairah, it should automatically fall under WikiProject UAE. In other words, I think each WikiProject should be a sub-project of WikiProject UAE.

Since I am not involved in WikiProjects as much as you are, I am not sure what the traditional actions are taken regarding WikiProject COUNTRY along with WikiProject LOCAL DIVISION. I would be interested do hear your thoughts. Also, If I did not express myself clearly, please ask me to rephrase. Thank you. Leitmanp (talk | contributions) 03:55, 23 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for my delayed response. I have thought about this and might have a solution. We can leave both WikiProject Dubai and WikiProject Abu Dhabi alone due to their regional and international importance. The other five emirates (Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain) are not as widely known or influentional as Abu Dhabi or Dubai. Thses five emirates are jointly referred to as the “Northern Emirates.” Therefore, we could merge them into WikiProject Northern Emirates. How does that sound? As for WikiProject United Arab Emirates, it can be used for articles that deal with things that transcend the internal borders of the UAE or national issues. Let me know what you think. Leitmanp (talk | contributions) 01:44, 6 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I do not know if you saw the above message, so I am just dropping a line. Let me know what you think about my above proposal. Thank you. Leitmanp (talk | contributions) 04:40, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Might be a good idea to make some flickr agreements to get some images for some of the pacific islands. I don't know if you have seen the solomon islands category but the amount of images we have is apalling. We must have one photo of a place anywhere. The rest are either black and white fuzzy WWII pictures or depictions of warriors from like 1890. Probably the same is for Nauru , Niue and some of the other places we talked about before. The most important thing I could be given is the ability to make a flickr agreement and officially OTRS it for wikipedia. I'm tired of having to wait for weeks on end and Ruiana never doing a thing about it and she is so "stressed" . If I was permitted to do that I could get us several hundred new images for places like this in no time. As it is some of my images ar eunder threat because nobody can be bothered to authorise it. WOuld you be prepared to help me get something done where I can have the ability to make flickr agreements and seal them? I;d probably need to be an admin in the commons which I've hardly done any work in, but something needs to be done ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 21:24, 24 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Actually my specific query is that I don't get a response when I edit an article's talk page, for example I feel like I leave good ideas but then no one responds; is it that I don't get enough people together to respond. Milhist tagging

I've responded with some suggestions here. I'm sorry it took me so long but I've been swamped, both online and in real-life (we have the builders in!!) and I had it in mind that your drive was due to start at the end of this month. What is the best way forward now? I'm reluctant to modify the drive page as it would somewhat take over. What I've done, I hope, is provide the components which some kind soul at Biography can use on the drive page. Suggestions welcomed, --ROGER DAVIES talk 07:30, 26 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposals page

Unfortunately, anyone can and often does create projects on their own without even listing them on the proposals page. I know of one, Indianapolis, which was I think created out of spite when I proposed making it a work group of Indiana. Your statements to the effect of "oppose" are ones I'm not sure how to deal with. Personally, I rather like them, as they seem to be causing some people to not create silly projects as quickly, but technically opposition isn't relevant to the proposals. But, like I said, they do seem to be causing at least some people to not create half-baked projects when they might have before. I guess I would have to say, basically, keep it up, although people might at times object to seeing your comments there. Unfortunately, it might be one of the few ways to keep Wikipedia:WikiProject (one-hit wonder) and Wikipedia:WikiProject (TV show cancelled halfway through the first season) from coming into existence. So, basically, if you ever get "called" on your comments, maybe respond politely, but, otherwise, keep it up. It seems to be working, when other methods haven't. John Carter (talk) 00:33, 26 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. Unfortunately, it seems as if WikiProjects, like much of Wikipedia is currently out of control. In my opinion, many of the current WikiProjects are poorly managed because they have very small numbers. While editors may be passionate about their topics, they really fail to see the value of collaboration in article improvements. As I mentioned to another editor, I believe that most of the projects proposed are better fits as Task Forces in projects that already exist. To take it one-step further I believe we should look a proposing several existing projects merge into their parent projects as task forces, but I know that is not the role of the Council. I really believe that would help make things better, but…that is just my opinion. On the subject of dissenting voices: I was contacted by two; both who had proposed Projects. One started his project anyway (I didn’t really care enough to start a lame edit war about it). Since there is no real format outlined for comments on the page and Wikipedia:Consensus doesn’t seem to currently be in practice, terms like Oppose, Support and Neutral may be foreign to many. I guess, in truth, the page could probably use some major cleanup and overhaul. Final note: I’ve noticed your edits not just on the Council space, but in other places. Thanks for doing such a good job. We need more Gnomes!!!! -- Absolon S. Kent (talk) 14:37, 26 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
For what it's worth, there are going to be quite a few merger proposals made in the next few weeks. Trust me on that. ;) Also, as soon as the new updated directory is done, I think we might try to formally make some sort of statement to the effect that most of the major topics are already covered. That being the case, it would probably make sense to say that most of the proposals should be task forces. I don't know how popular such a statement would be, but it does seem to be one of the few ways to prevent the glut of templates and the like. John Carter (talk) 14:43, 26 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Religious programmes as Wiki Project Council(my suggestion)

Thank you for putting your name forth as another interested Wikipedian for my proposal to start a new project group on religious programmes. Twice before I have proposed new project groups, once on gerontology and once on transpersonal studies, but I had no response to these, so thank you for being the very first Wikipedian to take an interest in one of my proposals. A case of "third time lucky" for me, and we could be the two co-founders of this one! I take your point that this could be a sub-project group within the group on religion. I would object to this becoming a sub-project of the Television project group, though, as religious programmes could form part of radio as well as television. Perhaps the title ought to be broadened to "Religious media"? Just let me know what you think.Thank you again for your interest. ACEOREVIVED (talk) 21:30, 26 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Question

Sure - will keep it on my watchlist and start soon. The WP India assessment dept. hasn't found the need for formal A-class reviews (like GA and FA) on its articles as yet, as it's only awarded the grade at its discretion, or has presumed that a formal review at another WP project dept. (like Films or Biography) has dealt with it. Still, in the cases where are any requests for WP India articles (outside of these other projects) that want to be considered for an A grade, I'll definitely let you know. Sorry to hear you are tied down with that. I was slightly concerned I had offended you with my purported lack of interest in the film coordinator roles which isn't true. I genunely think it is a great idea for project coordination as long as responsibility is shared and not a form of hierarchy which I disapprove of. I have just been busy with articles to look too much into it, I'll have a good look into it tomorrow. WikiProject Directory

Hi, I have noticed your modification of the WikiProject directory. I think it is counter-constructive as it makes it longer to load (44,362 more bytes!) and the fact that there are more sections makes it seem disorganized. A lot of subsections are not even needed as they only contain one WikiProject. Can you consider self-reverting and probably discuss in the talkpage before making such major modification? Thank you.--Jerrch 19:40, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't really mind, it's just that the sudden increase of 44,362 seemed too urgent. I thought the new version was disorganized, but I guess I could accept your explanation. After all, I think some minor edits could make it more organized.--Jerrch 20:30, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Little context in Category:Adelie Land

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:Adelie Land, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Category:Adelie Land is very short providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Category:Adelie Land, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Warriors portal

You appear to be a person who knows what is/isn't appropriate with portals so I wanted to hear your opinion on Portal:Warriors. Based on Category:WikiProject Warriors articles, there are just under 30 articles that would fit within this portal. 3 are self-assessed as B-class, 1 is start-class, and 16 others are stub class. Do you think this would be an appropriate portal topic? It feels pretty narrow in focus and doesn't have a lot of quality to present. It was only started a few hours ago, but I was wondering what your thought on it would be before they get too carried away with designing this if it probably wouldn't stand for too long. Caution

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Messianic Judaism. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions in a content dispute within a 24 hour period. Additionally, users who perform a large number of reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring, even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing. Please do not repeatedly revert edits, but use the talk page to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. If necessary, pursue dispute resolution. Tb (talk) 20:48, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

So noted. Please note I requested clarification on the talk page, and indicated as much in the summary. Perhaps you could pay a bit closer attention to what is being discussed before issuing such warnings in the future. John Carter (talk) 20:51, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
All I note is that you and two others have each made three or four reverts in a day on the same page. Requesting clarification is good, but the idea is to stop the reverts while the discussion continues. Most important is that this is done whether the other guy stops or not. Tb (talk) 20:54, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
And I apologize, for counting your edits incorrectly. Amidst such a flurry in the history, my eyes played tricks on me. I'm sorry. Tb (talk) 20:56, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
To date, I have reverted one truly bizarre addition to the intro, reverted it again, and reverted my own unfortunate removal of previously restored content. That makes two reverts, with a request for clarification made on the talk page. Personally, the quote added, as indicated on the talk page, seems to me to be, as phrased, completely unreliable. I have no intention of further edits, but am very curious how American Jews apparently integrate in Hinduism, Buddhism, and Shinto better than they do Christianity, which is what that source seems to state. And no apologies necessary, under the circumstances. Sorry for being a bit abrupt there myself. :) John Carter (talk) 20:59, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I know. I'm still looking for a plain list where I can start the articles in bot mode. I;m sure it could be done fairly easily but as it is I can't find a list, why on earth Maplandia haven't got an index I don't know . The problem with the falling rain gazetteer is that they list duplicate and even quadruple names for places in the A-Z so some towns may be listed at least four times. I spent a while trying to filter through User:Blofeld of SPECTRE/Missing Settlements/Tajikistan earlier. I to be honest hate compiling lists like that. If somebody presented me with a list of 30,000 red links in a list however I would start to tackle it! ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 14:34, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've found out that they do list them but only in about 15-20 at a time in a given district. This is useful in that I can copy the list in stages and add them at about a rate of 1 a minute using maplandia purely. As they are in the same districts, all I have to do is change the name in the external link, retrieve the coordinates and save article. Tajikistan now has nearly 100 articles, this morning it has less than 15 . This is the most methodical and quickest manual way of doing it ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 16:28, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, as you are a member of the Michael Jackson wikiproject I have some very important news for you. I will be nominating the Michael Jackson article for FA shortly and the Thriller album article is currently on the nomination list for GA. We need your help with both articles....

The Michael Jackson artice is currently on a peer review (which you can see on the articles talk page). It also really needs its references formatted correctly.

The Thriller album is going to be reviewed in the next couple of DAYS its sources need formatting.

These are the most important articles on michael jackson here at wiki, 2008 has been an excellent year for michael jackson, lets make it a good year for him here at wikipedia too. If these articles get a GA or FA statues it could make news outside of the wiki world. What a great way to celebrate the 25th year of MJ being the KING OF POP.

Screenwriters

I can't really call it a project, I haven't been able to drum enough interest to even call it a task force. I would like to create lists of screenwriters and have been looking for opinions other than my own regarding list sorting. Do you have an opinion for or against the creation of lists of screenwriters by decade for television and film? There may be some bleed over from decade to decade of individual writers, but rarely would they be active for more than 2 or 3 decades, William Goldman is the rarity, not the rule. I haven't had much luck creating pages, nearly every one gets challenged, I think they get points to delete things the moment after creation. I can do some intense population of the lists before creation, but it would be easier to get them up and then increase population afterwards. Does this sound reasonable to you? Patriot Guard under Wikiproject Christianity?

Why is the Patriot Guard page under the purview of WikiProject Christianity? As I understand it, it's an inclusive organization that welcomes everyone, regardless of age, gender, national origin, vet status, and religion.
I asked that question on the Patriot Guard Talk page last week, and early this morning (after almost a week had gone by without further comment) I decided to be bold and removed the WikiProject Christianity banner. Burkina

Check out Wikipedia:WikiProject Burkina Faso/Provincial templates scared? Ideally templates like these shuold be created for all of the african countries on the provinces and communes and to add the settlements in them like I've done to the first one. This is the best way we can get africa onto wikipedia geographically in an organized way. What do yuo think -I haven't completed them yet many are still ghost templates but its a good foundation I think ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 17:52, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mmm well most of the provinces have around 5-7 departments so it shouldn't be too bloated. If it gets too big then they can be shrunk. ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 19:18, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Novels WikiProject Newsletter

(Wassupwestcoast suggested that I turn to you, I hope you don't mind.) Since Kevin has taken a hiatus and his bot is usually the one to send notices for The Novels WikiProject Newsletter out, could you suggest another course of action? Do you know of another user with a bot that can send it out to the 300+ members? Since it's nearly mid-April, I thought we should try to get something out, especially if we want to remind people that we've got a few things that are changing and/or updating. María (habla conmigo) 17:05, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Eek, I wouldn't want you to "hand deliver" 300+ newsletters! Talk about tedious. I split it with you, or maybe we can post something to the general forum and get a small group of volunteers together and divide the task alphabetically? María (habla conmigo) 17:31, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the newsletter, John. Lighthead þ 22:37, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, thank you! :) Hopefully the bot will behave next time, but I appreciate your hard work. María (habla conmigo) 00:11, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Upon discussion and consensus ( see here) , The following changes and decisions were taken w.r.t to Indian Christianity workgroup :-

  • The scope of workgroup will be limited to Indian region only for now.
  • The workgroup will be renamed to Christianity in India instead of Indian Christianity.
  • The changes will effect the project pages, Portal and the templates.
  • The templetes will be replaced by a Indian map instead of Tricolor flag picture.

Don't Forget the Sex Work Task Force!

Hey, haven't seen you around in awhile! Please head to the discussion board on our project for a bunch of posts. Also can we make a user box that people can post on their pages? Let's talk about the symbols we want for it. Love to hear your input and see your work!--NoMonaLisa (talk) 05:24, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Antisemitism project

Thank you for the organizational advice. However, although I would like to see a Project Antisemitism and would be interested in participating, I would be among the worst editors to lead the effort to organize it because:

1. I do not have enough time, and

2. I was already bounced out of Wikipedia (by a member of the Arbitration Committee) over an argument involving antisemitism while editing the Alice Bailey article. Someone more wiki-respectable, would be needed. Malcolm Schosha (talk) 11:06, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Template:TelevisionWikiProject

Hey John, I had to revert your changes on the 2nd to Template:TelevisionWikiProject. Something in the code caused it to break horrible if infobox=yes was checked. I can't decipher the new code enough to figure out what it was. Can you take a look and see if you can get that fixed so we can get the taskforce stuff back? Mr. Bigglesworth

I see that Mr. Bigglesworth has obtained his new account. There is also a User:Sceptre -pretty suspicious isn't it. ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 19:39, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Didn't you create task forces for Madeira and Azores? I thought I recalled you created these ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 18:08, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Would you consider setting up a Portuguese islands task force to include Madeira and Azores? The problem is Madeira is closely tied to Portugal, much more so than Africa ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 18:20, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

And the Azores? They have a population of 245 million. ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 18:27, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ah 244,000 is more like it I thought it seemed a lot!! The mind boggles as to how much could be covered. I;ve just been starting rather meagre stubs like Baía de Angra do Heroísmo and that red links template but on Portuguese wikipedia most of those links are B-class articles. Theres like a truckload of amazing articles like this missing. There could easily be a seperate wikiproject for the azores -its such a shame there is so few english speaking people who would be likely to work on these places. I'm in regular contact with several Portuguese editors such as Husond who I could suggest it to. I'll leave a request atWP:Portugal for Wikipedia:WikiProject Portugual/Azores. There appears to be a fantastic amount available pictures wise for the azores. It looks great but we need to translate the portuguese!! As for Africa I kindly asked an editor to start Mining in Nigeria earlier. He has also created pages on many of the african politicians which could be started soon enough. ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 18:41, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RFA thanks

Thanks for your support in my RFA, that didn't quite make it and ended at 120/47/13. There was a ton of great advice there, that I'm going to go on. Maybe someday. If not, there are articles to write! Thanks for your support. Lawrence § t/e 17:53, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Request for an outsider opinion

As part of the discussion on Krishna page edit we are trying to arrive at NPOV where one party keeps adding unnecessary references to the supremacy of Vishnu in the page of Krishna. I would appreciate if you had a look at it in the light of this false allegation [1] and to consider if the proposed compromise for the second paragraph is acceptable. One one side we are trying to follow WP:COOL and on the other side some users try to land some personal accusations, which are are going too far. Thanks for you support and experience on board. --Wikidās ॐ 12:48, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey!

Hello John! Long time.. Thank you so much John for your willingness to extend a helping hand, even after helping so much in the past. Yeh I'll nominate it once the article is out of WP:PR. User:SandyGeorgia gave me only two samples of sentence which can be tightened. One I agree with, but the other sounds a bit odd. Her dussestion is:

  • (on the article now) The column turned out to be a success, and became one of the site's top 10 most widely read stories on the day.
    • (her suggestion) The column was a success, become one of the site's top 10 in readership.

How does it sound according to you? Regards, ShahidTalk2me 17:10, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

And does it sound better than the original sentence? ShahidTalk2me 17:24, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dear John Carter, Hey, I think that the new edits to the Krishna page are really good and unbias. I think it is great and actually better than before. Thank you for what you did. . WikiProject Media franchises participation

John...Just so that you don't think that I am completely gone from it, I am working on something in my user space for the project, a list of media franchises based on my favorites which can be added to later after I transfer my work to the project, if it is wanted. - LA @ 23:00, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

PS. If you see anything that I missed, feel free to add to it. It is fairly long and full of holes at the moment. - LA @ 23:02, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If you see favorites of yours on that list which is incomplete, would you please help me complete them? - LA @ 23:49, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

About what the wikipedian saw

Sorry about the trouble. The page was actually meant to be on the department of fun group but I didn't have time to add it's link. It was not meant to offend anyone. I apologise for this taking your time. Please send me a message on your view via my talk page. This same message will be sent to the other nominators. I am sorry about all this. If this causes too much trouble I will delete the page myself. Sorry about not adding the link so you could find this message quickly. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Darkside2000 (talkcontribs) 17:38, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

article length

hey john i was wondering are there exact guide lines for length of edits of article sections and if so could you point me in the right direction to find out about these guild lines thank you--Wikiscribe (talk) 18:32, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

yeah edits done on the Race of ancient Egyptians article made by big dynamo seem to be to long and is drowning out the rest of the articles sections,i had left him a message if he could keeps his edits more short and to the point which how the article has been being edited in the past im not complainig about content just the length of the edits--Wikiscribe (talk) 18:43, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

okay i will just revert all bigdynamo edits and site on the talk page most of them are irelevent and dubious and edits and are to long winded also--Wikiscribe (talk) 19:06, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

a user had reverted your revert i reverted it back but this seems to be going no where, bigdynamo is left me a message people are trying to hide facts etc claiming the page is biased, maybe the page should just be protected because it seems they dont want to compromise--Wikiscribe (talk) 14:42, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

john i made some argumenst on the talk page please come check them out you being an administrator and all i have also made some suggestions to thank you--Wikiscribe (talk) 16:49, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think the issue here is whether the article as titled really addresses the topic. If the intent is to discuss the debate, then it should say that. Otherwise, the article really has no purpose other than to rehash a debate and I don't see where it really provides any value. The point of saying don't waste my time is that it takes time to research and reference the appropriate facts and if facts and evidence are not what is "desired" in this article, then what is the point? Sure, some sentences may be over winded, I agree, but you removed everything, which makes it seem less about specific details than a specific agenda. Rollbacks

Hi John, I'm writing to request rollback rights per seeing your name in this category. I'll be straight with you, i've only 550 odd mainspace edits so far and have only recently started using VandalFighter to start removing vandalism from Wikipedia but i'd be grateful for the rollback ability to make this even easier. I'd quite understand if you were to deny this request. Regards, CycloneNimrod (talk) 23:14, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Miguel Barnet, gay?

Any chance of getting a reference on this: Miguel Barnet? The article makes no mention of it, and although I can find a lot of LGBT lit referencing him as a source, I can't find anything that actually outs him. Zelmerszoetrop (talk) 03:20, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
