:The redirect of Concordium to Alcott House is valid for the connected subjects concerned – what you are trying to do is to usurp the redirect page to write about a completely different 'Concordium', which amongst other things would cause technical difficulties and confusion.
:What you should do instead is to create a Draft about your 'Concordium', and submit it for assessment via the standard Wikipedia:Articles for creation process. When this is accepted by a reviewer, they will carry out the necessary work of avoiding confusion between the two 'Concordiums', probably but not necessarily by creating a Disambiguation page for 'Concordium' and renaming one or both articles (Perhaps to 'Concordium (Victorian organisation)' and 'Concordium (blockchain)' or something along those lines).
:If you continue to try to manipulate and misuse Wikipedia's established procedures, successful creation of your subject's article will be made more difficult, even assuming the subject is demonstrated to be WP:Notable.
:To make an analogy, you are trying to take a shortcut by driving the wrong way on a one-way street: you will be stopped and ticketed. Instead, follow the more circuitous but approved road system. Hope this helps. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 51.198.186.221 (talk) 06:15, 17 March 2024 (UTC)

Request for Status Update on Wikipedia Account and Submitted Draft

Hi, I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to inquire about the status of the Wikipedia account I created and the final draft I submitted on February 23, 2024. As of now, I have not received any notification regarding whether my draft has been approved, disapproved, or is still pending review. I would greatly appreciate it if you could provide me with an update on the final status of my submission at your earliest convenience.

Avoiding white space next to a scrollbar

The wikitable in Comparison of web browsers#JavaScript support behaves helpful:
This table is wider than the centered content column which occupies about one third of my screen width. But because there is plenty of white space to the right of the content column, this table extends beyond the limits of the content column into that white space, thereby preventing a horizontal scrollbar and making all of the table visible at the same time.

But the table in the next section Comparison of web browsers#Protocol support behaves unhelpful:
It is constrained to the central content column but still wider than it, producing a horizontal scrollbar. This makes it impossible to view the whole table at once, which is annoying, according to the plenty of unused white space next to it.

Comparing the two tables, I find identical declarations in its headers: class="wikitable sortable" style="font-size: 85%; text-align: center; width: auto;" and style="width:12em" .

What is causing the different behavior of the two tables and how can I modify the second table to appear like the first one ? -- Juergen 89.245.3.28 (talk) 18:25, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Check Wikipedia led me there. Some double redirect thing going on, while an article has actual text content. Maybe someone tried to expand a topic which is already a section in target or somewhere else... Definitely can't solve it myself: usually I only do wikignome code edits on this wiki. Sorry if this is not the right place. InternetowyGołąb (talk) 18:50, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Odd edit [1]. Someone changed the redirect target while also adding a bunch of article text at the same time. Then the bot fixed the double redirect. RudolfRed (talk) 18:55, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have reversed the edits as the text had no independent sources and was invisible as it was added to a redirect page. Information about the statue has also been added to the Gary Lee Price article, which also has no independent sources. TSventon (talk) 19:12, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Primary and Secondary Resources

I was told that court opinions are primary sources, and I need secondary resources. Can one put both primary and secondary sources? Supermario54321 (talk) 20:11, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Secondary sources are always preferred. If there are no secondary sources for some information, and it is uncontroversial factual information, and encyclopaedic in character (as opposed to trivial, or incidental to the topic being discussed) then it may be cited to a primary source.
So if the primary source gives the same information as a secondary source, there is no point in citing both. But if a primary source gave an uncontroversial detail (eg a date) that was absent from the secondary source, that could be cited to the primary source. ColinFine (talk) 20:21, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think that sometimes first-hand information is not sufficient to provide comprehensive information or complete background, so we can consider supplementing and supporting it with second-hand information.Second-hand information can be interpretation, analysis, or commentary on first-hand information, or the views and research results of other scholars and experts on the subject.
First and foremost, I think second-hand information should be a reliable and authoritative source, preferably published by experts, scholars or authorities.
When quoting second-hand information, it is advisable to provide a clear source of reference so that the reader can verify it.
Second-hand information should be a reasonable interpretation and analysis of first-hand information to help readers better understand and evaluate the information. The combination of first-hand and second-hand information should make the entry more comprehensive and persuasive, but there was a need to ensure that the second-hand information cited was reliable and appropriate. 유신예 (talk) 04:55, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Making userboxes on my Userpage

I need help to create the list of userboxes down the right hand side of my userpage. I have been following the instructions to create a number of userboxes down the right hand side of my Userpage. I have inserted the Userboxtop then tried putting in a userbox template beneath it. I have done this in both Visual editor and Source. The problem is that the userboxtop seems to take all the existing content on my user page and include it in its template so there is now a new "frame" around my text on the userpage and the heading Userbox top is at the top, centred. Also, when I insert a user box underneath, it does not justify to the right margin but sits on the left. The instructions to insert userboxes do not seem to suit my userpage. It may be because there are a lot of tables on my userpage? Maybe the cursor needs to be in a certain place? Can an experienced editor who uses userboxes please start the userbox list going for me on my userpage by adding in userboxtop then one or two of the stats boxes on right side to get me started? I would like to have Active edits and Active articles on english wikipedia to start then I will look at how it was done and continue to add userboxes myself. See Wikipedia:Userboxes/Wikipedia/Stats and tools/edit count.LPascal (talk) 02:18, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@LPascal: I don't see any userboxes on your userpage, but you mention Userboxtop. You need to pair that with a corresponding Userboxbottom that follows your userboxes, maybe that will help you. RudolfRed (talk) 02:32, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Additionally, Userboxtop has several options, including alignment (although the docs say right is the default, I haven't tried it)edited for clarity. RudolfRed (talk) 02:35, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Another editor went into my user page and started off the userbox list. It may have worked because they added userboxbottom underneath userboxtop and then the user boxes in between. The WP instructions say to put userboxbottom only after I have added in the userboxes, not at first. LPascal (talk) 03:01, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like Draft:Mechelle McCain has a history of being deleted and then 'refunded' the last 3 years... --Onorem (talk) 03:47, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As an administrator, I am able to read the deleted draft. That draft says she is the ex-wife of Mike Epps, which is confirmed in his biography. Having once been married to a notable person does not make the ex-wife notable. The draft said she was an actress in a film called The Fighting Temptations but the article about that 2003 film has a very long cast list and she does not appear on it. IMDb lists her as #34 in the cast as "Girl in Nightclub". That looks like a bit part. Based on what I know at this point, I do not see any evidence that she is a notable actress, and much of the coverage of her online is because her divorce from Epps was contentious. In my view, the deletion of the draft was correct. Cullen328 (talk) 06:20, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Weird issue with transparent images outside of infobox

I've seen this on multiple articles, such as Malroth, where the second image is not actually transparent. I often write posts on the help desk. When I talked about Leros written weirdly in early March, these 2 helpers, @Martin of Sheffield and @Deor came to help. Thank you both for these edits! Send them both a WikiLove or a barnstar that says “For your contributions to Leros.” or other titles of your choice.

Hello. When I saw an article called Missed connections there was too much links. Everywhere. Does it contain original research or multiple issues? Also contains a quote box template from a California magazine. Can someone tidy up the article? Let me know if you done it. Then, check the edit history page and also ask who added those links and the quote box. It seems as though your concerns would be better raised and perhaps addressed at the article's Talk page, or at the relevant WikiProjects (which can be found at the top of the article's Talk page? I'm not sure why you're asking for assistance here? DonIago (talk) 17:09, 16 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Regarding Wikiblame, the documentation says "The search works backward from the Start date." In other words, just leave it at the default (today's date) if you want to search all edits. Help finding and fixing a bunch of broken interwiki (wikisource) links

Hi,

we need some advice and/or help with the issue discussed in more detail at User talk:Dave souza § Wikisource links broken. In summary, the situation is this:

• Wikisource pages for the Kitzmiller v. Dover Area School District decision were created in 2006 and then cited likely hundreds of times across dozens of articles.
• In 2019, these pages were merged in a way that broke all (?) of those refs. Some have been manually repaired since then.
• How best to go about tracking down and repairing the rest?

Surely, such a situation is far from unprecedented, and there are more or less systematic methods to deal with it?

Cheers,

Photo's being scrubbed of content

I had magnified the Orion Nebula. Located an object that the Webb took a distant picture of. How this object had been overlooked. It's has been scrubbed recently within the last week. What is there is not current and what I've saved on my phone. No notification of updates. The same as before 2016 2603:3024:9E8:6060:405F:3064:36B2:D949 (talk) 00:45, 16 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Your initial Section and Photo added to Orion Nebula were reverted, correctly, by user Fountains of Bryn Mawr because none of the text was referenced to any published reliable source (Wikipedia does not care about unknown individuals' opinions, whether mine, yours or any other editor's) and the text style was inappropriate for an encyclopedia, the entire added section read as if it were indirectly promoting your own photo.
That photo, admittedly an excellent one, is welcome in Wikimedia Commons where it still resides, and might be added to one or more articles in the future by other editors, but it would be inappropriate self promotion for you yourself to do so.
Your subsequent addition of two sentences to the lede paragraph, also reverted by Fountains, partly repeated facts already present in the lede, which should only summarise fuller text further on in the article, and it contained a grammatical error and a non-MOS use of a unit symbol. It might be appropriate to add a new section about amateur observation of the Nebula and the type of equipment needed to do so, but this would need to summarise material from published reliable sources and be correctly cited to them, rather than be one private individual's opinions (which, incidentally, I share). {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 51.198.186.221 (talk) 04:43, 16 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Section edit

I have recently redesigned my user page (User:Cambalachero), dividing it into sections for the topics I usually edit, and placing at each one the alticle alerts from the related wikiprojects, so I can see them all at a single page and have an easier time finding things to do. Problem is, the sections have lost the [edit] button at the right. I suppose that those article alerts must have a "no edit section" magic word (the wikiproject pages do not have such buttons either), and that's what prevents them from showing up at my page. Is there a way to counter that and force to edit section buttons to appear? Cambalachero (talk) 00:49, 16 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding these pages:

Their content is taken from pages such as: "Democracy Index 2021: the China challenge" (PDF). Economist Intelligence Unit.

Apart from these pages being WP:NOT, are they also copyright violations? Pinging creator: Свободный Кот. —Alalch E. 15:43, 16 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Alalch E.: very good question. The analysis will take awhile. Please see Wikipedia:Copyright in lists. If you have time, then after you reash a conclusion, please raise this in the respective articles' talk pages. My first impression is that the Economist used subjective value judgements, and the lists are therefore copyrighted, but I am not sure enough to actually tag the articles.-Arch dude (talk) 15:57, 16 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I will not claim expertise in the area of intellectual property, but I think the extra verbiage in the copyright notice is of no force or effect. If you have a right to include, for instance, brief quotes from the content, based on the principle of fair use, then this extra verbiage in the copyright notice can't cancel that right. Unfortunately, as far as I am aware, there is no penalty for making claims that go beyond what you actually have a right to claim, but IMO, it's just as if the "scare verbiage" in the copyright notice weren't present at all. Fabrickator (talk) 17:36, 16 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Fabrickator and Alalch E.: Yep, ignore the actual notice and focus on copyright law. Creative elements are copyrighted by default, including selection, composition, ordering, and opinion. Our articles violate copyright to the extent, if any, that they copy creative elements. -Arch dude (talk) 17:47, 16 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Also, I don't feel we are harsh enough, in that we should make clear that while COI editors may request whatever changes they want, there should not be an expectation as to how this material will be incorporated into the Wikipedia article. Just my opinion. Fabrickator (talk) 16:55, 16 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Why Indian Veterans Primmer League Page Deleted? Bhavana Jagwani (talk) 16:47, 16 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Bhavana Jagwani: If it's anything like the version on your user page (which will soon also be deleted), it's because it's a copyright violation, being cut & pasted from ivplt20.com - Generally, you may not copy text from other sites to Wikipedia. Indeed, if you do so again, you may be blocked form editing. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 17:26, 16 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Citing same source multiple times with different pages

How do I cite a source multiple times in one article, referring to different pages or sections of the source in each separate citation?

For example:

[1] Book A, pg 12

[2] Book A, pg 37

[3] Book A, pg 192

Thanks! Tsavage (talk) 20:27, 16 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Tsavage, the standard methods are described in the documentation of the templates sfn and rp. —Kusma (talk) 20:33, 16 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) The easiest way is to separate the citation from the references. You place a reference inline and have a bibliography at the end where all the sources are cited. See Frindsbury for an example. However, if this is an established page, then you'll have to follow the existing style. In that case you may have to put the full citation inline. You can then use sfn to link to the citation with a different page number. Have a look at this and then use edit to view the markup: some words in a book[1] followed later by some more words[2] and after more waffle a conclusion.[3] Martin of Sheffield (talk) 20:37, 16 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I COULD NOT FIND ANY LISTING UNDER TEXAS. CAN YOU PL ADD HOUSTON DALLAS SAN ANTONIO AUSTIN THEY ALL HAVE MULTIPLE SIKH GURDWARAS 108.87.90.122 (talk) 21:04, 16 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, IP editor. Please do not type in ALL CAPS since this is perceived as yelling. I assume that you are asking about List of gurdwaras in North America. That list article is unprotected and can be edited by anyone including you. So, go ahead and add a "Texas" section, and add a reliable source verifying each entry. Donation question

I need to cancel my monthly donation. How do I contact people about that? There's nothing on the site that comes close. 49.199.64.157 (talk) 01:25, 17 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. The Wikimedia Foundation collects financial donations and Wikipedia editors have no involvement with that. This Wikimedia Foundation page explains what you need to do. Cullen328 (talk) 01:39, 17 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Tool for links in Table?

Happy St. Patrick's Day to you, I have a few thousand table fields (various tables to do with schools in Australia) to check for/add/verify links. Are there any tools to help? Wakelamp d[@-@]b (talk) 01:57, 17 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Redirection

When i go to a specific Wikipedia page, i automatically redirected to another page. How to fix and disable this? We are trying to create a page for our organization, but malicious actions by other members have caused the redirect. How to remove this? Here is my link https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concordium but it redirects me to other page on wikipedia. Pablozsc (talk) 05:22, 17 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The redirect of Concordium to Alcott House is valid for the connected subjects concerned – what you are trying to do is to usurp the redirect page to write about a completely different 'Concordium', which amongst other things would cause technical difficulties and confusion.
What you should do instead is to create a Draft about your 'Concordium', and submit it for assessment via the standard Wikipedia:Articles for creation process.
If you continue to try to manipulate and misuse Wikipedia's established procedures, successful creation of your subject's article will be made more difficult, even assuming the subject is demonstrated to be WP:Notable.
To make an analogy, you are trying to take a shortcut by driving the wrong way on a one-way street: you will be stopped and ticketed. Instead, follow the more circuitous but approved road system. Hope this helps. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 51.198.186.221 (talk) 06:15, 17 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
