Rahayu Mahzam (Jawi: رحايو مهزم; born 31 August 1980) is a Singaporean politician. A member of the governing People's Action Party (PAP), she was appointed as Parliamentary Secretary of Ministry for Health since 1 September 2020 by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. [1] She has also been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Jurong GRC for Bukit Batok East since 11 September 2015.[2]
Education
Rahayu had her early education at Raffles Girls' School.[3] She then went on to complete her LLB degree in 2003 at the National University of Singapore after completing her A Levels in Raffles Junior College.
Family
Rahayu is the eldest of three children.[4] She is married and gave birth to a baby boy in April 2017.[5]
Career
Professional career
Rahayu is a lawyer by profession, specialising in civil litigation and family law.[6] Formerly a Deputy Registrar of the Syariah Court in Singapore,[3] she is currently a partner at Heng, Leong & Srinivasan.
Political career
On 20 August 2015, the People's Action Party (PAP) announced that Rahayu is part of a five-member PAP team that will be contesting in Jurong GRC in the 2015 general election.[7] Rahayu was elected into Parliament following the 2015 Singapore General Elections, when their five-member PAP team won and clinched 79.29% of the electorate's valid votes.[8]
Rahayu was part of the taskforce set up to implement tighter regulations on formula milk manufacturers.[9]
Rahayu is part of the PAP team that successfully defended Jurong GRC in the 2020 general election.[10]
