Sidharth Shukla (born 12 December 1980)[1] is an Indian actor and model from Mumbai. He started his career as Model and won world's Best Model Title held in Turkey in 2005.[2]

He made his acting debut in the 2008 show Babul Ka Aangann Chootey Na. He is known for his roles in Love U Zindagi, Balika Vadhu and Dil Se Dil Tak. He participated in the reality shows Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa[3], Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi and Bigg Boss 13.[4]

In 2014, Shukla made his film debut in a supporting role in Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania.[5]

In 2019, he was among the Top 10 most searched celebrities in India on Google.[6]

Early life

Shukla was born in Mumbai to Ashok Shukla, a civil engineer working with the Reserve Bank of India and Rita Shukla. He has two elder sisters. His family originates from Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. Shukla attended St. Xavier's High School, Fort and later completed his degree in Interior Design at Rachana Sansad School of Interior Design.[7][8] Shukla has described himself as a very athletic child, and represented his school in tennis and football.[9]

Career

Modelling

In 2004, as a model Shukla participated at the Gladrags Manhunt Contest where he was Runner-up.[10]

In 2005, he represented india at world's Best Model Title held in Turkey and became the first Indian and Asian to win the title beating 42 contestant.[11][12] After winning the title Sidharth was Seen in many ads as Bajaj, ICICI and Digjam among others.[13]

Television debut

In 2008, he made his acting debut with a lead role in the television show Babul Ka Aangann Chootey Na on Sony TV opposite Aastha Chaudhary. Shukla played role of Shubh Ranawat, a man dedicated to his work and family. On his father's request, he quits his job abroad and joins the family business.[14] The show ended on 5 February 2009.

Later in 2011, he appeared in the weekend show Love U Zindagi on star plus.The Show was inspired by the iconic Jab We Met and was set in a Punjabi family.[15][16] Shukla played a character of Rahul Kashyap.

Breakthrough and Bollywood debut

In 2012, he got a chance to play Shivraj Shekhar aka Shiv in the Balika Vadhu.[17] It was his portrayal of Shivraj Shekhar in the long-running Colors TV social drama series Balika Vadhu which rose him to prominence and earned him widespread recognition and popularity, including several awards and nominations.He got Gr8 performer of the year award in ITA.[18] The ratings of the show increased after his entry.[19]

In 2013, Shukla participated in the celebrity dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa.[20] As non dancer, he was mostly seen as a weak dancer on the celebrity dance show. His towering and charming personality only kept him in the show and show also helped him to improve as dancer.[21] After getting eliminated in the 11th week, Shukla said in an interview "I completely enjoyed my journey on the show. There was a lot I could learn. I would have loved to continue".[22] Later show was won by Drashti Dhami.

In January 2014, it was reported that Shukla had signed a 3-film-deal with Dharma Productions.[5] The film was offered by Karan Johar As he was the judge of dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa where Sidharth was a contestant. Sidharth explained[23]

"I was on the last season of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, where Karan was the judge. He liked me and called me. Karan Johar calling you was a big thing and the first time he called me ,I can have a conversation with him without offending him and can speak anything to him. Karan is like Narendra Modi in my life."

In the following year, Shukla debuted in their romantic comedy Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania in a supporting role, playing the character of an NRI doctor named Angad Bedi. The film earned him an award for Breakthrough Supporting Performance (Male) in the 2015 Stardust Awards.[24]

Hosting and further success (2015-present)

In 2014, Sidharth was named the host of Savdhaan India named as Savdhaan India – Fight Back Now.[25][26] He brought the stories of common people who fought against crime. In the past, Savdhaan India was hosted by television actors namely Amar Upadhyay, Hiten Tejwani and Pratyusha Banerjee as hosts.[27]

He also hosted India's Got talent 7 along with Bharti singh[28]

In 2016, he participated in the stunt reality show Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 7. He was eliminated in the earlier weeks but returned as a wild card contestant again. Shukla was declared the winner in April.[29][30][31] In 2017, he played role of Parth bhanushali in Dil se Dil Tak with co-star Rashami Desai and Jasmin Bhasin.[32]

In 2019, he participated and won the reality show Bigg Boss 13.[33][34]

After winning the Bigg Boss trophy, Sidharth appeared in music video with his Bigg Boss 13 co-contestant Shehnaaz gill.The song was sung by Darshan raval.[35][36]

Sidharth is a practitioner of physical fitness.[37] In 2014, he won the Gold Awards Most Fit Actor award.[38] He was also awarded with Wellness Icon of the Year award in 8th Geospa Asiaspa India Awards.[39]

He was ranked at 34th, 33rd, 44th and 41st in The Times 50 Most Desirable Men list in 2013, 2014, 2017 and 2018.[40][41][42][43] He was also included in the list of Top 10 TV actors by rediff.[44]

Shukla was listed 5th in Times of India's Top 20 Most Desirable Men on Indian Television 2017.[45] He won the Most Stylish TV Personality Award at the Hindustan Times Style Awards.[46]

He was also ranked 7th in Times of India's Top 20 Most Desirable Men on Indian Television 2018.[47] Next, Shukla was ranked 17th in Biz Asia's TV Personality List 2019.[48]

He was in the list Top 10 most searched celebrities of India on Google in 2019.[49]

Ormax media rated Shukla to be most popular contestants of Bigg Boss 13 where he was ranked no. 1 throughout 20 weeks.[50] He was also most tweeted contestant of Bigg Boss 13.[51] He was voted as most favourite contestant of Bigg Boss 13 in the poll conducted by Hidustan Times ,India TV News and The Times of India.[52][53][54]
