Chistmas elfs and fantasy elves are not the same species despite them having near identical names. Christmas elfs are more often referred to as "elfs"/"elfish" whereas fantasy elves are more often referred to as "elves"/"elvin". Christmas elfs are more similar to pixies and gnomes than modern fantasy elves. This misconception of elfs and elves being the same race is partially brought on by Santa's elfs being referred to as "Santa's elves" and "elves" in modern culture. This gives the two races the exacts same name.

Elfs and elves

Elves are foul mouthed little Scots that take excess amounts of heroin, cocaine and ecstasy. Go on a street corner late at night and you will see an elf in a bush selling crack to the junkie reindeers and unexpecting passers by. They steal things from charity shops and their habitat is the crack den.

Some other examples of "elfs" outside of Christmas would be the elfs in the fairy tale The Elves and the Shoemaker, Snap, Crackle and Pop who are the Kelloggs brand mascots, and the Keebler elves.
