Monster sponsors a motocross race team named "Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki".[8] The brand is also the title sponsor of the French motorcycle Grand Prix.[9] Prior to this, Monster sponsored Kawasaki. The Vans Warped Tour features a Monster touring bus that gives out free Monster Energy Drinks during the event. Monster Energy is a sponsor of the X Games, and features in the videogames Colin McRae: Dirt 2, Dirt 3, Skate 2 as well as Skate 3.

In September 2009, Monster Energy teamed up with Activision to bring special redeemable codes on the Monster Energy website where people can submit codes included in Monster Energy packs to redeem things such as Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 Premium Themes and a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Map Pack code.[10][11] In addition, Monster Energy were among the main sponsors of the 2009 Sonisphere Festival in Knebworth, UK.

Monster also sponsors the North American E-sports team Evil Geniuses and provides them with a fridge full of Monster for their gaming house in Arizona.

Notable events

In September 2009, Hansen Natural petitioned Rock Art Brewery[12] to cease and desist from using the name Vermonster on one of its beers due to Hansen's alleged similarity to Monster's trademark.[13] Hansen Beverage Co. sought reimbursement for legal expenses and asked Rock Art to abandon a trademark application. Hansen has trademarks for “Monster” and “Monster Energy." [13][14] In October 2009, Monster Energy and other Hansen Natural products were being boycotted by several retailers in support of local Rock Art Brewery.[15] Since the 1980s, multiple companies have created beers—many predating Monster Energy's creation—with monster related names.[16] Examples include Monster Ale brewed by the Brooklyn Brewery and Green Monster brewed by Deschutes Brewery in Bend, Oregon.

In March 2011, several media outlets[17] [18][19] reported a Washington man was suing the makers of Monster Energy Drink. The man claims a dead mouse lay at the bottom of a Monster can that he bought at a Des Moines supermarket in March 2010. Hansen Natural responded to the claim with an official statement on April 1, 2011, calling the lawsuit "frivolous" and stating, "[The complainant] left the can opened and unattended for hours in his car, providing ample opportunity for a small mouse to crawl into the can."[20]
