Payal Jain is an Indian fashion designer.[1] She is best known for her corporate uniforms.[2]

Early life

Jain was born in New Delhi and graduated summa-cum-laude in 1993 from Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, California.[3][4]

Career

Jain worked as a design assistant in some European fashion houses Fritzi, San Francisco and later worked with couturiers Jacqueline De Brey in San Francisco and Ulrich Engler in London.

She returned to India to work. She designed corporate dressing for The Leela, Goa in 1993. She later designed for over 40 hotels. She participated in various international fashion shows including in Toronto.[5]

She wrote a book called as Fashion Studies for aspiring young designers.

Style

Jain works with craftsmen in small villages across Rajasthan, Orissa, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat and Bihar to integrate their designs in the mainstream. She works with indigenous material including silk, brocades, zardosi and chikankari, and gets inspiration from Mughals and other royal eras.
