Lucy was on other shows like The Lucy Show and Here's Lucy named Lucy Carmichael and Lucy Carter but really its all the same Lucy.

My WP:ORIGINALRESEARCH also concludes that Lucy Carmichael and Lucy Carter are in essence the character Lucy Ricardo. I don't think Lucy Ricardo is notable alone. In the show, all she does are getting herself into trouble, such as posing as Carmen Miranda, winning a horse and hiding, hiding incubating chicken eggs, and pretending to be a princess of a non-existent country, but always gets caught by her husband Ricky (or not noticed luckily by him). Even Ricky is not notable himself, except when he attracts ladies and gets Lucy jealous, and even he tries to be a famous musician. All Ricky and Lucy did are driving each other crazy, such as attempting to make each other nuts at a lousy camping trip, especially with Ethel Mertz brough along, getting themselves locked up with a handcuff, and... many more? Even real-world reception doesn't help at all make me believe that they are individually notable. What do you think? --George Ho (talk) 21:30, 26 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    • How strong would Little Ricky article be? To be honest, Little Ricky is not that notable alone; in fact, he looks cute and a little more involved, but that's it. There must be real-world commentary about these characters, such as Little Ricky. Lucille Ball's "Lucy" character has been discussed ad infinitum for a half-century in mountains of secondary works, to the point that I will do something I've never done before: simply cite WP:SNOWBALL. Umm... Per WP:articles for deletion/Ashton Kutcher on Twitter, "WP:What Wikipedia is not" policy may triumph WP:notability and subject guidelines. Would articles of Lucy and of Ricky repeat each other? Well, if not, Lucy is a gay icon, but how does that benefit encyclopedic value of an individual article, regardless of notability? Ricky is mentioned as a Latino to be laughed at. Ricky is also called this way. The plot elements... well, does inclusion of Lucy's adventures with Ethel help? If so, there must be an episode about women that does not involve men (indirectly or directly). As discussed previously, both characters, Lucy and Ricky, may be notable individual. However, right now, matter is the potential encyclopedic content on both of their articles, not their individual "notability". The Casting section of Lucy Ricardo won't be that stellar because Lucille Ball herself wanted to cast herself as the housewife and wanted her then-husband Desi play the "straight man" part. How can notability be consistent with quality of an article? Under guidelines of WP:notability, a notable topic does not guarantee a valuable article about one topic. Even an article about a "notable" topic, like Ashton Kutcher on Twitter, is never easy to write and to balance. As for the "Lucy is a gay icon" and "Ricky is a stereotype" thing, that could be better said in Characters section of I Love Lucy article. I mean, look at the condition of Lucy Ricardo: not only a bad quality but only fiction stuff. Speaking of fiction stuff, even her background isn't stellar for general needs.

With "Ricky and Lucy" article, it is a good balance. Even writing a section about their friendship with the Mertzes is beter than writing about Lucy's friendship with Ethel, right? --George Ho (talk) 15:03, 4 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support MOVE but ONLY to new title 'Lucy and Ricky Ricardo'; after that, 'Ricky Ricardo' can be merged into this article (I can discuss the many advantages of my suggested title over the nominator's proposal, but it seems unnecessary to do that right now). Although each of the two characters is certainly individually-notable, a one-article juxtaposed discussion of their largely-shared, deeply-connected stories seems more useful than separated articles (unless and until the article becomes too lengthy, which seems unlikely). Ricky's full name[edit]

I'm not sure how one would go about verifying this, and I don't know where the full name in the article came from, but I recall at least two different full names being used on the show. In one case that name included Enrique.— Vchimpanzee · talk · contributions · 18:41, 6 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I just watched an episode in which he calls himself Ricardo Alberto Fernando Ricardo y Acha, which must be correct, because "Enrique" means "Henry," not "Ricky" (i.e., Rick/Richard, "Ricardo," in Spanish). Not sure if there is an episode in which he calls himself Enrique, but although it kind of sounds like Ricky, it's an entirely different name, so I doubt Desi Arnaz would have allowed such an error to be made. In the episode in Hollywood in which Ricky forgets their anniversary date, he very clearly says Ricardo, which makes his name Ricardo Ricardo. Addendum: Just watched another episode (the one with the wax tulips), and Lucy admonishes Ricky, calling him "Enrique Alberto Ricardo y de Acha the third!" (She leaves out Fernando). My guess is that Lucille Ball flubbed her line, and said "Enrique" by mistake. I believe he calls HIMSELF Enrique in the episode of the Lucy Desi comedy hour in which they flash back to when they met in Cuba. Just because Enrique is equivalent to "Henry" in English, that doesn't mean he wouldn't use the nickname "Ricky" in America.68.199.97.145 (talk) 08:37, 23 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The article only refers to "Ricky's band," but bands generally have names. Does anybody know what the band's name was, or if it was ever mentioned? JDZeff (talk) 19:44, 12 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Interracial marriage[edit]

Ricky Ricardo (and Desi Arnaz) was Cuban-American of almost exclusively Spanish descent. Desi Arnaz was descended from mayors of Santiago de Cuba on both sides. Under the Census definitions and mores of the time of their marriage, he would be considered white. Under current terminology, he would be considered a white Hispanic. Their marriage could be considered an intra-racial interethnic marriage, but that was not taboo either by law or custom.

I was the one who added the part about interracial marriage. In my college, I'm a journalism major, and we did a major (no pun intended) unit on how depictions of marriages have evolved in the media. Lucy and Desi were NOT an interracial couple[edit]

This is a widely circulating myth. In the 40s/50s/60s, Desi Arnaz and most Latin-Americans were considered white. They were not minorities. The reason they could get legally married in the 40s was because they were not an interracial couple. Desi was white.
