Wikify this article

[edit]

Wikify this article. The boxes are not good formatting. Lots more needed. --DThomsen8 (talk) 03:13, 4 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Necessity of dates

[edit]

In the section Achievements, the dates when she won the medals and awards have been specified. The exact dates don't seem to be of any particular importance there. Please review its necessity. JobinFire me here 18:26, 6 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Even I feel the same. Also, a table for her national achievements would be better to maintain uniformity. BPositive (talk) 19:17, 6 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Possible copy-vio

[edit]

There seems to be a possiblity of a copyright violation in the following sections:

  1. 1985–2003: early boxing career
  2. 2003 - present: awards and success

The page in question is this: http://www.wban.org/biog/marykom.htm The website is of WBAN-Women Boxing Arcive Network. It might be reverse copy too, since I could not verify the authenticity of the web-site. If somebody could confirm this, we could resolve the content. Thanks. JobinFire me here 06:37, 7 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed at least one other copyvio section while taking the article apart for a complete rewrite. I've cut the Olympics section down heavily as well, as it was mostly a match-by-match report of the 2012 World Championship. This article looks like an excellent source to work from, but I'll have to leave it for tomorrow... Andrew Gray (talk) 23:00, 5 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Photos or images

[edit]

The article lacks photos and images of Mary Kom. If anyone can find good photos of Mary Kom, in a bout or in an award ceremony or any other relevant place, please take the trouble to link it here. It would be nice and justifiable for the effort Mary has taken to achieve all this. Thanks. JobinFire me here 18:31, 7 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

There are no free images on Flickr, but there are a few (from a pre-Olympics event) put up by the UK High Commission in Delhi. I've emailed them and asked if they'd be willing to release any. Andrew Gray (talk) 19:32, 5 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I've got two images released from UKinIndia - commons:File:Mary Kom - British High Commission, Delhi, 27 July 2011.jpg and commons:File:Abhinav Bindra and Mary Kom - British High Commission, Delhi, 27 July 2011.jpg. I've put the first one in the article, but the second is a nicer picture - perhaps worth cropping it down? Andrew Gray (talk) 09:35, 8 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

It appears that her name is Mery Kom and not Mary Kom. How does one change the link to this article? http://www.wban.org/biog/marykom.htm Moonuranus (talk) 14:47, 5 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm guessing this (and the occasional use of "Merykom") is mainly a transliteration issue. "Mary Kom" seems to be the predominant form used in English-language reports. (The IOC, meanwhile, happily display HMANGTE Chungneijang on the boards above the ring, briefly confusing everyone...) Andrew Gray (talk) 21:28, 6 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Contradiction

[edit]

First thanks to the contributors. I am translating this article to as wikipedia.

In the section "Olympic Games" it is written that " Mary, a five-time world champion, has won several medals in the 46 and 48kg categories but never in the 51kg section." while in the previous section "Return to boxing" it is written that ".... in 2012 took the gold medal in the 51 kg class at the Asian Women's Boxing Championship in Mongolia." Of course, in the second line there is a "citation needed" tag. This needs to be cleared. ''Prabhakar Sarma Neog'' (talk) 16:10, 8 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

She had indeed won in the 51kg (flyweight) category in 2012. I've removed the claim. Andrew Gray (talk) 20:50, 8 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

She returned after a eight-year break or eight-month? Because her achievements/medal tallies don't support the eight-year break. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 125.60.173.18 (talk) 16:02, 7 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Weight Category (Trivia)

[edit]

In the trivia section it is written that she is rated at 5Kg(11lb). It should be corrected to 51Kg. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dxfuneral (talkcontribs) 07:07, 10 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Date of birth with source

[edit]

@Vedanttabla007: Do not change the sourced birthday without valid reason. The source is Mary Kom's autobiography in which she wrote that she was born on 24 November 1982. See page number 1 of the source — Chapter: And then I was born in her autobiography The Unbreakable. You you have another reliable source, government documents mentioning a different birthday, please link it it, we can have a discussion. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 17:30, 16 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
