'Premium' Drumset Picture

Shouldn't we get a picture up of the premium drumset thats going to be released for RB2? Metal Lover (talk) 17:34, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

I just watched the Microsoft E3 conference and it was said that RB2 would be a 360 exclusive.76.199.96.165 (talk) 01:02, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

xbox 360 game only in septebmer. bundled with instruments for 360, ps3 in october. so its only an exclusive release date for the game only for the 360.Skiracer712 (talk) 20:27, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

"Drain You", by Nirvana

While it can be told by the lyrics of the gameplay screenshot, I don't believe this is in anyway a confirmation of the song being a track in the game. Also, I do not believe a single song, even the first confirmed, to be relevant to the article.Phoenixmuffin (talk) 10:44, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

North American vs United States

The release dates for Rock Band in the US and Canada were not the same. Given that prior, I believe it is presumptuous to say September 2008 is the North American release date for the Xbox 360 edition of Rock Band 2 and that September is probably exclusive to the United States.Phoenixmuffin (talk) 11:33, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

Where I live the "US" release Was the same day as the Canadian release.72.141.183.151 (talk) 14:37, 12 July 2008 (UTC)

200 songs in the game?

From this page:

Teasdale suggests that between existing dowloadable content and on-disk songs, there will be over 200 songs available for Rock Band 2, 120 of them in the game disc itself.

I read the article on IGN and this doesn't seem to be the case. Teasdale says that there currently ARE 200 songs available for Rock Band, which is true. Here's the quote:

"Rock Band 2 has the strongest playlist we've ever assembled, and I think fans will be blown away not just at the spread, but also at the caliber of acts we've attracted.

We also have over 200 songs available right now, between our on-disc content and DLC. If you want more classic rock, I highly recommend downloading the Boston and Grateful Dead six-packs that we released." Now over 500 songs will be aviliable by Christmas according to GamePro Magazine 9-9-2008

From what I can see, there's no mention of how many songs are on the disc specifically anywhere in the article. Someone pulled the 80 songs thing out of nowhere, apparently. --Jheimendinger (talk) 07:51, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

I don't know where that 120 number came from, I'll take it out. --MASEM 13:36, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
The "80 songs" information comes from this article. - The second edition will feature a playlist of over 80 songs — all master recordings — which will include more female-fronted bands and artists who have never contributed tunes to a music game. -- TRTX T / C 16:22, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

New IGN article

I'm not sure if anyone's added this article yet, but there's lots of good stuff in it:

http://au.xbox360.ign.com/articles/885/885168p3.html Teancum (talk) 13:28, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

Yup, that article's in here (not that URL, but the same write up from US IGN) --MASEM 13:37, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

RB2 "Leak" on X-Play

I wouldn't call it a leak since it appaers to be from coverage of the follow up, but here we go: RB2 Songs + DLC. We've used Xplay as a source before, I'll see if I can find it on G4's site anywhere. -- TRTX T / C 00:47, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

I removed the song listing. Kotaku.com also listed a screenshot, but the tracks aren't set in stone. I suppose if someone wanted to start a 'rumored' set list that would be different (my opinion), but I'd rather not get my hopes up with songs that may not be on the disc but appear a DLC, or even worse, don't make the cut at all. Teancum (talk) 12:59, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
I think we are going to need to add it; anon IPs will continue to add it judging by the DLC track list leak until it is mentioned. While Kotaku is not be considered 100% reliable, all they are doing here is reiterating information from a forum post that is definitely from the X-Play gaming update show, however, I can find no picture of that screen in the online versions of the Gaming Update for either 6/30 and 7/1 shows from G4's site (not aware how G-4 operates, I dunno if they do multiple GUs through the day and only post one to the site, or if they had to edit that out at some point). But I think it needs to be there with qualification just to avoid editing nightmares. --MASEM 13:33, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
I'll check G4's site occasionally to see if that ever gets put up. I know they had a story on Still Alive a while back that they put up there. So if we're lucky that'll happen and then we'll have our official source. -- TRTX T / C 13:38, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for putting them in the "Unconfirmed" section. That seems fair and aughta make everyone happy. Teancum (talk) 14:34, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Unconfirmed songs shouldn't be put in the game...because they're unconfirmed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.96.235.235 (talk) 02:16, 5 July 2008 (UTC)

The ever changing nature of a game in developement is noted at the top of the article. If reliable and verifiable sources report a song, then it can be included at the moment. -- TRTX T / C 15:33, 7 July 2008 (UTC)

Second Batch of Leaked Songs

Someone at scorehero.com claims to have played new songs on Rock Band 2 according to G$ here is the link http://www.g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/686712/More_Rock_Band_2_Tracks_Leak.html

This is hardly anywhere near substantial. The X-Play list had a screenshot to go off of. This was just some random person claiming to have played RB2 on an Internet forum with no proof whatsoever. It is my strong opinion that the G4/Destructoid/Scorehero list should be removed. Dorkmaster Flek (talk) 18:47, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

I was a playtester a few weeks back, did expert bass and thought the game was awesome. I made a list of songs in the game, from the best of my recollection (I know I missed a bunch, but all of these are definitely in there)

Unfortunatley there's no way for you to prove your identity or that this was actually the case. I've seen multiple reports from a number of sources that verify songs on this list....but without anything concrete (like the G4 screen) we don't have enough reliable sources to roll with it. -- TRTX T / C 12:24, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
Even if it is true, It is about what we can verify, not what is true. Chrislk02 Chris Kreider 18:55, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
fair enough, but I'm at least saying that "panic attack" is the dream theater song, and that "american woman" is the original, not the guess who cover. also, half the tracks you have listed are from unverifiable reports, just that those reports happened to get picked up by G4 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.147.26.13 (talk) 21:39, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
Huh? American Woman WAS originally done by The Guess Who. Lenny Kravitz did the remake. Teancum (talk) 01:49, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
whoops, yeah, typo 24.147.26.13 (talk) 04:55, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
Anyone could say that they were a playtester and post a random list of songs. Sorry, but you have no proof to back up your claim, therefore, it isn't accurate. Doshindude (talk) 03:46, 5 July 2008 (UTC)
You mean it isn't verifiable, it may well be accurate. 209.97.84.89 (talk) 20:07, 5 July 2008 (UTC) some anonymous editor
then you shouldn't be listing these songs http://www.g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/686712/More_Rock_Band_2_Tracks_Leak.html Bclare (talk) 17:03, 5 July 2008 (UTC)

I could've told you that. Oh wait, I did. (That was me before I bothered to register). A few of the songs I said weren't on the official list, but I suppose they'll show up as DLC at some point Bclare (talk) 05:46, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
It wasn't about truth or lie. It was about WP:V. There was NO way to verify these claims. -- TRTX T / C 12:27, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=96532

An interview from the rock radio show The Tour Bus released on the web already two months ago reveals that the American thrash metal band Testament is going to feature two of their songs, "Electric Crown" and "Souls of Black", in 'the next Rock Band video game', which I understand is Rock Band 2. It sounds a bit unusual that a band would lend two of their songs at the same time to a music video game, so I'm adding that one of the two songs will probably end up in RB2 one way or another when it's released. A Powerful Weakness (talk) 20:32, 6 July 2008 (UTC) A Powerful Weakness

I'm guessing one on-disc song and one as DLC... 208.102.33.166 (talk) 04:32, 7 July 2008 (UTC)

Kotaku Rumors

There are two lists of rumored tracks for Rock Band 2 on Kotaku right now. It is one of the popular stories on Digg as well. One of the lists seems to be the same provided from a user above, and there is another, more extensive one as well. I don't have the patience to make up the chart for it myself, but if everyone thinks these rumors are somewhat viable, I guess a table should be made for them. 69.253.151.6 (talk) 05:27, 7 July 2008 (UTC)

The first two lists seem to have relatively sound references compared to these lists. If they must be added, I would remove the tracks already in the existing tables and group them together with a very large COMPLETELY UNVERIFIED warning somehow. Something tells me that we might know for sure in a couple of days anyways since E3 is coming up so this might not make so much sense from that point of view.Techfreak98 (talk) 06:27, 7 July 2008 (UTC)

Here's a table if anyone wants it with all the Kotaku songs. I think it'd be cool to put on the page and then as songs are announced/confirmed, move them to a seperate "confirmed" table and then when the game actually comes out remove the unconfirmed songs.

I saw those articles, and the thing is right now there are two sources claiming two seperate songlists. These two lists are being reported and acredited equally, which means that there's a contradiction at the moment. There's nothing to really make one more reliable than the other, which would make any sort of "full" track list at this time incredibly speculative. I'd recommend staying with what's currently included (acredited to G4/XPlay) and holding off on including additional songs from either list. -- TRTX T / C 15:29, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
for the record, the songs that i posted above (it was anonymous, I have since re-registered on wiki) are definitely not a full songlist, just the ones that i could remember after a lot of thought. i think there were about 85-90 songs on the playlist that i saw, and they may have added more since then Bclare (talk) 21:49, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
Personally I think we should hold off on adding any rumored tracklists for now (unless there's a very solid source). E3 is just a week away now, we're sure to get plenty of official information then. SeanMooney (talk) 22:14, 7 July 2008 (UTC)

ION Drum Kit

The ION Drum kit is available for Pre-Order for $299.99 at Drum Rocker (this set includes two cymbals, with a third symbal for for sale as an add-on). All drums and Cymbals are standard electronic drum triggers which can be used with the Alesis drum controllers. This is the date that most retailers are claiming will be the Xbox 360 release date. However, Harmonix has not confirmed a release date other than to say it will be in September for the Xbox 360. - Runch (talk) 14:18, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

The Rock Band 2 website (rockband2.com) allows you to "preorder" from different retailers. Gamestop.com says all of the versions are shipping in October... on the same date... I haven't seen any official announcements to back this up, and gamestop is known for messing stuff like this up... Smashedapples (talk) 20:59, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

A similar thing happened when Rock Band 1 was set to come out, along with the individual peripherals. Until HMX makes an announcement, the date is in flux and retailers are just guessing. You are better off essentially ignoring their speculation. Rowdyoctopus (talk) 16:22, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
Kotaku has an article showing that the release dates for all platforms were leaked, confirming September 14 for Xbox 360, October 19 for PS3, and November 18th for Wii.

Someone changed the Xbox release date to September 14th(Xbox 360), October 19(PS3), and November 18(Wii). Either myself or someone else will keep changing it back to September 2008(Xbox 360) and TBA Q4 2008 for the others until Harmonix announces otherwise. Nothing is official until Harmonix makes an announcement on it.Phoenixmuffin (talk) 05:56, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

I don't know if this counts, but I'll give it yet another try... The "Rock Band Store", which (as far as I can tell) is run by Harmonix itself lists the release date for the PS3 version as Oct 19. [Rock Band Store]Smashedapples (talk) 18:44, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

Nevermind... there are so many release date comments, that I missed a previous one... Smashedapples (talk) 18:45, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
Yeah. HMX owns the Rock Band store, but it is run by a 3rd party. That 3rd party came up with those release dates. There was a specific post from a HMX dev on the official forms in response to someone asking about that store. It explained that they had not announced a release date and they have no control over what that 3rd party puts in the store.Rowdyoctopus (talk) 06:23, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
Could you provide a link to this forum post? I'd find it very odd if the Rock Band Store wasn't at least partially controlled by Harmonix. LordRM (talk) 22:31, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

No. At this point HMX/MTV/EA/whomever has continually claimed there have been no official announcements. Until there is an announcement we can only assume retailers are speculating. Rowdyoctopus (talk) 18:23, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

Song Difficulty Rankings

Maybe this is more appropriate for the soundtrack page, but does anyone have information as to how songs are going to be ranked in the new game? IGN and some other site have begun using a 6 point scale, from 0-5 with 5 being the highest. Is the 9 tier format gone? Is this even relevant information? I guess once we have concrete information it might be worth mentioning that despite sharing DLC and such a different ranking system is used between the games, or maybe that belongs on the soundtrack pages. Just trying to bounce ideas off people. Rowdyoctopus (talk) 18:27, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

NVM. I found the answer to my question on gamefaqs. I don't have any reliable sources yet, but going off this pic http://i33.tinypic.com/28jjy8x.jpg it appears there are 7 rankings. 0 dots, 1 dot, 2 dots, 3 dots, 4 dots, 5 dots, 5 red dots. Current speculation is that all DLC will be re-worked into this system on the new game. Rowdyoctopus (talk) 18:38, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

Instrument crossover in Rock Band 2 and Guitar Hero World Tour

It was posted on IGN that Sony has worked a deal with Harmonix and Activision where both sets of instruments will work with each game. That menas you can use your existing Rock Band 2 instruments in World Tour, and the new World Tour instruments with Rock Band 2. I am not sure if Rock Band instruments will work or not, but there should be no reason why they wouldn't. They will be the same for both Rock Band and RB2. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.108.130.11 (talk) 18:51, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

Release date redux

IGN says 9/14 (360, game only)[1]. EnGadget and others say the bundle has been pushed back to October for the 360[2]. Maybe list both dates? Oren0 (talk) 17:22, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

Or not list any release date other than September for Xbox 360, cause, in fact, Harmonix hasn't announced one yet. - Runch (talk) 17:38, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
Why? Harmonix isn't the only reliable source in the world. In fact, we prefer to cite non-first party sources. Oren0 (talk) 16:56, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
Well they're the ones making the game, aren't they? If they knew when they would start shipping the game, they would be the first to tell us. So we wait... for announcements from Harmonix. Spiritaway5177 (talk) 17:06, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
As far as I know, IGN and EnGadget aren't considered RSes for release dates (Masem, correct me if I'm wrong on that!), and saying that we prefer citing secondary sources is really splitting hairs when it comes to software release dates. The point of preferring secondary and tertiary sources is for determining notability and avoiding undue weight that primary sources may well provide ("the box-office smash hit movie of the summer!" vs. "one week as the #1 movie in America, but failing to remain in the top 10 after that," for example). When it comes to something as non-spinnable as a release date, I'd say it's hard to get a better source than the publisher. Rdfox 76 (talk) 17:07, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

So this video from IGN http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/907/907885p1.html doesn't count? If you watch the video of the venues posted today at the end after the credits it says releases Sept 14th. Doesn't HMX give this videos out? or is it IGN guessing. btw this is my first ever post so forgive me if I have posted wrong - OzarkSavage (talk) —Preceding undated comment was added at 00:43, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

Release date (again)

People keep trying to add Sept 14th as the release date. No one from Harmonix, MTV Games, EA, or Microsoft has confirmed this; vendors may be reporting the 14th, but we cannot rely on vendors for accurate release dates. Someone attempted to link WorthPlaying but this site is not reliable and has questionable copyright issues and should not be linked. I myself fully expect the game will be out on the 14th, but the best reliable source says "September 2008" with no date given. --MASEM 16:08, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

Those are not the only reliable sources. If you revert again I will report you for 3rr .   Daniel.Cardenas (talk) 16:22, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
Do realize you have violated 3RR already. The reason we can't use these sources is that they don't say where the date came from. We've been watching and no one directly involved with the game has announced a date. Again, we can't use "Worthplaying" as they are not reliable, and the other sources seem to pull the 14th from thin air. --MASEM 02:28, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
One of the references said they talked to the game publicist. If you go to the rockband site they link to pre-orders to various sites adding credibility to Amazon. Rockband's own site says it will be delivered 14th. There are ton of references. You just want to be difficult. You don't understand 3rr if you think I violated it. Daniel.Cardenas (talk) 03:19, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
The "official" rock band store is run by a 3rd party. No one from Harmonix, EA, or MTV is involved with that store. They are no more credible than Wal-Marts website. This wouldn't be such an issue if Harmonix did not continually tell everyone that no release dates have been confirmed. This entire issue is puzzling. Rowdyoctopus (talk) 14:32, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
Considering that Masem is an admin here, Daniel, I suspect that he has a better understanding of Wikipedia policies than you do. No offense intended, but I thought I should point that out. Rdfox 76 (talk) 16:28, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
>No one from Harmonix, EA, or MTV is involved with that store.
Incorrect.
>This wouldn't be such an issue if Harmonix did not continually tell everyone that no release dates have been confirmed.
Do you have a reference for that?
Daniel.Cardenas (talk) 15:25, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
I don't know about EA or MTV, but Harmonix employees have on more than one occasion told people that they are not affiliated with the Rock Band store, and Harmonix's only official statement has been that the Xbox 360 version of Rock Band 2 will be released in September. They haven't made any official statement other than that. They have however repeatedly stated that we should not trust in vendor estimates of release dates, though they've been pretty quiet about them over that past couple weeks. - Runch (talk) 16:18, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

One of the inclusion criteria for wikipedia policy is verifiability from reliable sources. That has been provided. I haven't seen any sources that contradict those verifiable sources. Talk is cheap. Provide sources or put the content back on the page. These many sources wouldn't have published the same date unless it came from one of the originators. Wikipedia policy is verifiability, not truth. So we should publish what the date is and it is fine if harmonix employees are under the gun and aren't sure if they can meet the date. Daniel.Cardenas (talk) 18:29, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

This press release from Harmonix/MTV on the PAX pack that is going to be released was put out yesterday at the conclusion of PAX. Note that there is no release date given, only that the game debuts on the 360 and in September. (On June 30, Harmonix, the world's premier music video game company in the world, and MTV Games, announced the release of Rock Band 2 this coming September and will support all previously downloaded content.) This is their official line on the issue. Also, if you search google for "release date for rock band 2" all the relevant hits all are based on store "leaks", and vendor sites are not reliable for release dates for future games. No source has stated that HMX or MTV has announced the games being available on the 14th. This lack of verification is why we have not include the 14th date since it is verifiable. --MASEM 22:47, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

The 14th is likely the date. http://www.rockband.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1161581&postcount=14 That isn't official confirmation, but that is the first time I have seen anyone related to HMX or EA acknowledge it. Rowdyoctopus (talk) 21:12, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Release date from Rock Band Store?

http://www.rockbandstore.com/detail.php?p=62947 says the 360 version is released on the 14th. I am fairly sure this qualifies as an official announcement. The Rock Band Store is the official Harmonix/MTV store, and it is linked to from the official RB2 site (http://www.rockband2.com/pre-order). If nobody has objections, I'll add it. LordRM (talk) 21:59, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

But the store is run by a third-party, not Harmonix, so even though it says the 14th, this is not the same as an official announcement from HMX, MTV, or EA Games. --MASEM 22:02, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
If you have a source for this claim, please post it. Otherwise, the Harmonix copyright on the bottom, and the MTV logo, would lead me to believe this is as official as we're going to get. LordRM (talk) 22:07, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
The logos and copyrights are for the products sold at that site. Here are a few threads from the official Rock Band forums that clearly state that HMX is not involved with the "official" Rock Band store:
http://www.rockband.com/forums/showthread.php?t=65232&highlight=rock+band+store
http://www.rockband.com/forums/showthread.php?t=65232&highlight=rock+band+store
http://www.rockband.com/forums/showthread.php?t=68690&highlight=rock+band+store
Just look for any post by a user with HMX in their name. They are all developers, or at least representatives for the company. There are more examples, but I think those 3 should cover it. Rowdyoctopus (talk) 01:15, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
Thank you. "September 2008" it is. LordRM (talk) 03:25, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
I just realized I unintentionally provided the same link twice. I apologize, but I don't think that changed anything. The two I did provide were very clear. Rowdyoctopus (talk) 20:13, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
The problem lies in the fact that even though we know they're Harmonix employees, other Wikipedia users would not -- it's not common knowledge. That's why forum-based sources (among other reasons) are frowned upon. Teancum (talk) 20:41, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
We are not using that as a direct source in the article. We are using to show that HMX has nothing to do with the Rock Band store. The forum is being used to "enhance" the discussion on the talk page. The ONLY time that forum is ever used as a source on a Rock Band article is for when they announce new downloadable songs. This is only because most weeks the only source for new songs is the forum, which is the official source for announcements. More prominent releases receive press releases. Right, and no official, credible source has stated 10/19 as the bundle pack release. Same deal as the 9/14 release date; it may be absolutely right, but the source needs to be from HMX, MTV, Viacom, or EA games for the release date. --MASEM 20:36, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

"Video Game" tag

Should this (and The Original Rock Band game) be moved to include "(video game)" placed after their titles? I just happened to notice that they seem to be exceptions to the rule.

Tamakun (talk) 03:07, 7 September 2008 (UTC)

That's only if there's need to disambiguate this title from a similarly named topic; if there's no conflict, there's no need to add that. Rock Band did happen to once be at "Rock Band (video game)" as to distinguish it from "Rock band" (a type of musical group) but since WP is sensitive to case, it was moved to just "Rock Band" (both capitalized words). --MASEM 14:45, 9 September 2008 (UTC)

Cymbals port on both ION and regular drum kits?

Reading IGN's review and this article I can't figure out if there only are cymbal ports on the ION drumkit, or there are ports on both the ION and the standard, the ION just comes prepackaged with 2 cymbals. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.116.62.202 (talk) 19:10, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

This isn't really a forum for questions. To be polite, the ION kit comes with ION cymbals (two) while the regular kit doesn't come with any. Inclusion of Japanese Rock Songs?

In a press conference yesterday, Yoshiki (drummer for X-Japan) announced that an X-Japan song will be playable in both the US and Japanese versions of Rock Band 2. My guess is it's probably downloadable since the announcement was made yesterday and Rock Band 2 was released before then. No clear answers as to which song it is, but my guess would probably be I.V. (the song written for Saw IV) or their new song which X-Japan is recording.

In addition, (I believe it was Kotaku but I'm not 100% sure on this) there have been reports that groups like Malice Mizer, Oblivion Dust, and Dir en Grey will have songs that appear in either Rock Band 2 or the new Guitar Hero game. Solo artists such as Gackt, Sugizo, and Miyavi are also reported to have songs appear in either of those two games.

I'll try and provide sources for the latter half of this discussion. But as for the first part. Here's a translation of the most recent press conference (http://www.jrockrevolution.com/news/jrock-news/607-yoshiki-announces-end-of-year-live-for-x-japan-new-track.html) (Note: It's only briefly mentioned...just do a search for Rock Band 2 on the page and you should find it) Xatticus —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.80.89.60 (talk) 17:39, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

If the songs are cross-playable, then I would assume that we'll include it in the current DLC list as well as either the RB:Japan songline or the RB:Japan DLC (if it is notable). I think one more RB song list that separates by cross compatibility would be way too much detail. --MASEM 18:16, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

Atonal used inappropriately in instrument peripheral section under gameplay

Atonal is used incorrectly in this instance, implying music of indefinite pitch. Atonal does not have this meaning at any time, but rather describes music in which the pitches are not arranged in the particular construction generally known as "tonality". Phrases more appropriately describing sections of indefinite pitch include "unpitched", "spoken word", "sprechstimme", etc. C13b9b11 (talk) 16:38, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

The ads and all press releases are referring to the fact that by the end of the year, there will be over 500 songs available to play on Rock Band 2. That number is counting the Songs on the Rock Band 2 Disc, the Songs that can be exported from the Rock Band 1 Disc, all currently available DLC and unreleased DLC from now until the end of the year. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 156.101.1.5 (talk) 15:39, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

well i did see it in a magazine before not sure which one but i remeber that it said -now over 500 song to play- im not sure if it is an add-on or its really the game. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.203.42.67 (talk) 21:28, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

Does no one have reading comprehension anymore? Every mention of this 500 songs business says "BY HOLIDAY 2008" or "BY END of 2008". The 500 songs includes RB1, RB2, DLC, and track packs. Y2kcrazyjoker4 (talk) 15:27, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

Rock Band series article is up

I've gone ahead and expanded the Rock Band (series) article, hoping to merge much of the gameplay information. Please feel free to add to that as well as take from here for it. --MASEM 20:51, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

Guitar Hero drums?

Will the drums from Guitar Hero: world tour work with Rock band 2? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.187.145.130 (talk) 17:19, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

Apparently, they will for the XBox 360, and they are trying to work it out for the PS3 last I heard, but not on the Wii for sure. Bummer (I have a Wii). -Kanogul (talk) 00:01, 8 November 2008 (UTC)

Wii Release Date

Who wrote December 2008? It is supposed to be released on Nov. 19. GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.63.18.184 (talkcontribs)

HMX's latest press release (of this week) stated that PS2 and Wii versions are pushed to December 2008. --MASEM 15:54, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
really? O that SUCKS! --24.63.18.184 (talk) 00:46, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

no way--98.203.42.67 (talk) 21:30, 24 October 2008 (UTC)are you serious!!!

Someone had added specific dates for the Wii and PS2 release, I reverted them since they were not sourced. If there has been a specific date announced can we have a source?--64.140.181.126 (talk) 21:06, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

Gamestop.com says the preorder will ship on 12-16-08. Is this enough to warrant citation and inclusion in the article? -Kanogul (talk) 00:02, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
This has been discussed before. (See the archives, and the several discussions regarding Release Dates) Retailers should not be considered reliable sources. The only dates we can be certain of are those that come from the manufacturer.Dinomudd (talk) 22:59, 8 November 2008 (UTC)

Number crunching

Dunno if this should be mentioned anywhere, but curiosity got the best of me and I did some number crunching.

There are 474 total songs available in Rock Band 2:

(conversely, there are 393 songs available for the first game)

So, anyway, there's that. If there's ever a "Rock Band vs. Guitar Hero" section to the article, this would be an excellent way of (neutrally) comparing the two games. EVula // talk // // 06:21, 13 November 2008 (UTC)

Release Platforms

In Europe, is the game only being released on Xbox 360? There's no date up for any other consoles...

Peripheral Compatibility with GHWT on Wii

I found a page linked within a GHWT sidebar ad which sums up the compatibility on all systems between the controllers for GHWT and RB/2. If it's accurate, then the Wii peripherals for a given game will not be compatible on the other. http://cdn.guitarhero.com/ghhub/GHWT_compatibility.pdf Phi Chi Delta (talk) 07:59, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

Well, they already announced that Guitar Hero guitars will work with Rock Band 2 on the Wii. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.24.54.185 (talk) 20:48, 18 November 2008 (UTC)

Rock Band 2;Nintendo Power Rating

Nintendo Power has given Rock Band 2 a 9/10. Wii release date

Why do anonymous users insist on changing the Wii release date to Dec. 22? As the cited source says, the Wii game shipped on or even before the 18th in some cases and sale was allowed as soon as it arrived at stores. I've had mine in hand since the 19th. Please quit changing that. TheMolecularMan (talk) 17:49, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

EU PS3 Release date

The EU PS3 Release date is said to be 30th January 2009, with play.com as the cited reference. As I was told myself when I did the same thing, online stores aren't reliable enough to cite for release dates, are they? I didn't want to just get rid of it in case I was wrong (and besides we Europeans are all desperate for information :p). Wikiwikiwoolgar (talk) 18:41, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

Wii DLC

Wii still doesn't have DLC but according to the article it would have songs available for download at launch. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.30.138.195 (talk) 01:10, 28 December 2008 (UTC)

Rock Band 2 for Wii out in EU?

This is unconfirmed but I've been told that Argos have been shipping Rock Band 2 for the Wii in Europe from last Saturday (17/01/09) Can anyone confirm this and add it to the page? ChrizC (talk) 12:49, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

The result of this discussion was a clear consensus against this merger. Oren0 (talk) 01:25, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

Besides the length of the list, I don't see any reason why the list article couldn't be merged with the main Rock Band 2 article. You can get around the long list by making the table autocollapsible, like so:

I think it would be cleaner to have all of the information in one place. This would be harder for the original Rock Band, as the soundtrack was different for certain consoles/territories. But it seems an easy merge for Rock Band 2. T. H. McAllister (talk) 06:02, 16 May 2009 (UTC)

Do not merge - Soundtracks for music games are typically seperated from the game. This is commonly due to the size of the lists. Check out the Guitar Hero series as an example. -- TRTX T / C 16:20, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
Oppose - mind you, recent changes at WP:FLC for lists suggest that for shorter soundtracks on smaller games (like the GH expandsions) it may be inappropriate to separate the lists, but for here, it is certainly not the case - RB2 and the list are very large. Also, note that while collapsing is functionally workable, it is strongly discouraged since such sections do not appear when the pages are printed unless the user has expanded them already. For that reason, the soundtrack should stay separate. --MASEM (t) 16:31, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
(Comment) - My problem with it having its own article is the fact that there is literally no information there that isn't already communicated in the main article (besides the list itself). If the collapsibility is a problem, I would almost prefer that the sortable table be dropped completely in favor of a two/three column list keeping only the song title and artist name (as the decade and genre aren't exactly crucial information). Example:

I know it looks a little messy, but I think the list article is unnecessary. Surely there's a satisfying way of implementing it into the article. T. H. McAllister (talk) 20:09, 16 May 2009 (UTC)

    • The lists follow what has been confirmed as appropriate presentation for the Guitar Hero games (most lists which have achieved featured status). Because of the impact on the individual songs as a result of inclusion in these games, this is not just a normal soundtrack ala most other video games, but instead needs to be more useful to the end reader. --MASEM (t) 20:14, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
  • Oppose. The list is long and there's no reason to collapse it or make it smaller to make it fit here. This is a perfect example of WP:SUMMARY, and consistency with List of downloadable songs for the Rock Band series in terms of information presented, style, and sortability is desired. Oren0 (talk) 20:52, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
  • Oppose -- First, why? Other than having the list accessible via scroll instead of click, what is the advantage in merging them? Second, merging them will degrade the usability of both articles. The new article will be larger to load and manipulate, and will contain a wad of information that may not be of interest to the general reader. For those who are interested in the songs, there will be a potential loss of content and ability to manipulate the list. I have found the sort and categorization features very useful several times already, and expect to do so in the future, too.--NapoliRoma (talk) 22:05, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
  • Oppose for the reasons of precedent, usability, and stylistic concerns already given. Wikipedia isn't paper so the space a separate article takes isn't an issue, but it is a digital system that needs to be easy to read and manipulate for both readers and editors. — Saxifrage 00:08, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

Wii European release date

Absolutely nothing has been said about the constant delays regarding the European release date for Rock Band 2 on the Wii. Granted there is not much sourced information out there, but there must be something out there (on the EA forums perhaps?) covering this topic. The Rock Band 2 page is full of praise for the game but fails to highlight the somewhat confusing issue of seemingly being unable to release the game in Europe, despite it having already been released in America.

Or the complete absence of an AU release, come to think of it. Is RB2 not doing well enough to justify that release, or is it an issue of low take up on the original owing to extreme delays in releasing that game there? (Obviously, either conclusion would require sourcing.) 121.208.19.160 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 02:51, 3 October 2009 (UTC).
