The Dragon Academy (also known as The Dragon), is a small independent school in the Annex neighbourhood of downtown Toronto.
History
The Dragon Academy was founded in 2000 by Dr. Meg Fox, who is also its Principal, and has been in operation since September 2001.[1] The same year the school was founded, it was also the year of the Chinese Double Dragon, hence the name of the school.[2]
Background and Philosophy
The purpose of the school, as has been stated by the principal, Dr. Meg Fox, is to not only enrich the mandated Ontario high school curriculum, but to provide high school students with an integrated curriculum heavily reliant on the socratic method. It is a progressive school, following the philosophy of John Dewey. In its curriculum and teaching methods, The Dragon promotes creativity, freedom of expression, collaboration and a commitment to social justice. Course offerings are balanced across the arts, sciences and humanities.
