Hi. When you recently edited William George McCloskey, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Franciscan Sisters (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Thanks for your upload to Wikipedia:

You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact Web page where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain or the URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page or me at my talk page. Thank you. Message delivered by Theo's Little Bot (opt-out) 21:24, 25 May 2013 (UTC)

Diocese coat of arms

I added 9 COA's to your User:Alekjds Wikimedia commons page:

Diocese of Paterson, NJ.jpg,

Diocese of Tulsa, OK.jpg

Diocese of Brownsville, TX.jpg

Diocese of Pueblo, CO.jpg

Diocese of Kalamazoo, MI.jpg

Diocese of Gary, IN.jpg

Diocese of Rockville Centre, NY.jpg

Diocese of Lubbock, TX.jpg

Maybe this will help. I have others, but the quality is not all that great(low res, too small, no color, etc.).

Orphaned non-free media (File:Larochecollegesealred.png)

Thanks for uploading File:Larochecollegesealred.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Werieth (talk) 16:57, 31 March 2014 (UTC)

Diocesan map of Pennsylvania

I have edited the image Ecclesiastical_Province_of_Philadelphia.svg, in response to a user's request. After I uploaded the changed version, I saw that you originally uploaded it with text in it, then replaced it, with the explanation "New version with text converted to paths". I am aware that SVGs often are uploaded with the text converted to paths, and am wondering why. Your original version was less than half the size, and easier to edit (if, say, one of the dioceses changes its name). Maproom (talk) 13:59, 31 March 2015 (UTC)

Hello, thanks for the question. I think it may be my ignorance of Inkscape more than anything else. If I don't convert the text to paths, then the text always seems to display in some hideous default font that messes up the formatting of the image. Is there someway to determine what font the text will display in without converting it to paths? — AJDS talk 18:43, 31 March 2015 (UTC)
That is a good point, which I had not considered. You can specify "font-family: sans-serif;" and then the reader's browser uses whatever its default sans-serif font is. When I am creating an SVG file, I check it in my own browsers, which have sensible default fonts. If I upload an SVG with text in it to Wikipedia, it gets magically converted to a .svg.png file by some software that must have its own default font. I can see why it's safer to use paths. But I guess a better method is to create the SVG while checking it with a browser that's set to use whatever font the Wikipedia conversion software will be using. I shall look into this. Maproom (talk) 19:48, 31 March 2015 (UTC)
This has been instructive for me. The recommended answer is to specify, within the SVG file, the use of fonts supported by the software at Commons, and particularly "Liberation Mono", "Liberation Sans" and "Liberation Serif". See Help:SVG#Font_styling_class. Maproom (talk) 06:55, 1 April 2015 (UTC)
Excellent—this resolves a long-standing problem of mine. Thank you for asking the question and finding the answer. — AJDS talk 07:35, 1 April 2015 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:Bristol city coa.png

Thanks for uploading File:Bristol city coa.png. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 09:04, 6 October 2015 (UTC)

Any insight into Appollinaire University? I could not find anything on the internet at all. 7&6=thirteen () 20:57, 29 November 2015 (UTC)

Yes... it took a bit of digging but I have a good sense of what that might refer to. Today what is called the Pontifical Lateran University was originally founded in 1773. From the Wikipedia article: "...at the site where the Palace of Saint Apollinaris stood in 1853, Pope Pius IX founded the Faculty of Canon Law and Civil Law and the Pontifical Institute Utriusque Iuris." Although that institution was more properly called l'Ateneo del Pontificio Seminario Romano, its connection with the Palazzo Sant'Apollinare is probably what leads to the occasional reference to Università Sant'Apollinare, which might end up as "Apollinaris University" in English. Today the same palazzo is home to the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross (see their website here, in Italian, which specially mentions the old Pontificio Istituto di Sant’Apollinare). It seems up in the air to me which present-day university would be most properly considered the "heir" of the old one. — AJDS talk 21:11, 29 November 2015 (UTC)
Wow, and it already had its own article: Pontifical Roman Athenaeum S. Apollinare. — AJDS talk 13:45, 30 November 2015 (UTC)

Hello Declan, I'm hesitant to do that because I think the wordmark part of the logo may be copyrighted. I do mostly heraldic SVG work because all you have to do is match the blazon without concern for reproducing the lines of the original exactly. In other words, there is some legitimate artistic license and I feel more comfortable creating files like that, which I can then release into the public domain without fear of copyright issues. — AJDS talk 16:30, 2 January 2016 (UTC)
