Hi, I noticed you reverted the article Islam to a vandalised version that replaced {{islam}} with {{terrorism}}. I appreciate the fact that you've been doing a lot of reverts, but please be careful not to make reverts like that accidentally. I have discovered that my account "Happyjoe" is blocked from editing due to some sort of misunderstanding over the Big Spring, TX article. Warwick Shool

Hello, I have a vast knoweldge of the history of Warwick School and have many reference books from which i look up my information. If you look at the history of the "Warwick School" page, you will see that I have added 2 paragraphs of information, however, GN Frykman, seems to find it funny to dismiss my hard work as "vandalism". Please contact this user and block him if necessary - he can't simply go around deleting people's hard work. It seems that he has also been very rude to one of the wikipedia moderators. Thanks, Liam

I had just seen the Russians will the figure skating gold and becuase they showed no emotion i could only assume they and most of the country was of robot origin. I have since looked it up and they are not mostly robots.

The article does have sort of a jump from the prior paragraph (about the civil war) to the paragraph that was deleted. I was watching to see if the anonymous editor might add something on a subsequent edit, but alas, he/she did not do so, so reverting their deletion was definitely the right thing to do. User:burnbabyburn

At my school, I heard some rumors about Wikipedia's Jeff Chang article. I went to investigate it, and saw that User:Burnbabyburn had vandalised it. This user has also vandalised the Jack London article on Feb.21. (See contributions) His account was apparently created only for vandalism. The vandalism seems to have been deleted by now, but I think you should give him a warning or block him. All names in his edits are names of other students in Hopkins Junior High school in Fremont, California. I know all this because I am a student at the school, but one who wants to help Wikipedia.

On Deletion of Babble from the Brooks Page

Aha!!! So I noticed you sniffed out my little contribution to the Brooks page... A technical act of vandalism, no doubt, but I hardly thought it was harmful... I was just trying to add some spice to our base's mundane entry - especially since it higlighted some of the real details of daily life here! I mean from reading that junk, one could learn about the relative non-militaristic-ness of this place, how we have a bunch sciency stuff here, and most of all, a bit of an homage to the late legendary programmer Zupko, and the dictatorship he's trying to establish! How do you go wrong there?! Well... Yeah. Obviously, just a joke meant for our eyes. But alas, twas clearly too blatant, and no match for your pervading aura of anti-vandalism. Vandalism and Graffitti

This might seem insignificant to you, but, I ( as well as graffiti artists and most people acquainted with graffiti art and/or culture) feel that there's a difference between graffiti and vandalism: the former description is usually reserved for intent, like politics or art; the latter is reserved for defacement with no inherent meaning. Under law graffiti is just a subset of vandalism, but I think a distinction should be made since the vast majority of vandalism would not be considered graffiti by the artists themselves (nor by the graffiti community), and the vast majority of graffiti would not be considered mere vandalism by almost anyone except cops and the owners of the property. Anyways, I brought this up to humbly request that you would consider changing "I ... have been actively reverting 'graffiti' ..." to "I ... have been actively reverting 'vandalism' ..." in recognition of this subtle but fundamental difference which so many people draw. While I disagree with your position on the societal definition of the word grafitti, my intent was not to offend a segment of the artistic community and I can easily express the thought without that particular noun. Someone at your IP is currently and actively vandalizing user pages. You can click on the links provided on your talk page to see the vandalizsm in question, and take action to prevent people currently sharing your IP (more than likely someone sharing your connection through a router). Welcome, Kuru/archive-2006, to Esperanza, the Wikipedia member association! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is the StressUnit, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We will send you newsletters to keep you up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Possibles.

I Did Not vandalize Civil Liberties

i am not sure how to get intouch with Kuru, but he claimed that I vandalized the Civil Liberties article. I did make a couple articles to promote my website, which were deleted. But I was in no way vandalizing other articles. I have contributed in a positive way to a few articles including Jay-Z and others. However, I am in no way trying to undermind what you guys have going on here. What Change to Greek Temples?

I received a message from Kuru saying that my ability to update pages would be taken away if I keep up blatant vandalism like I did to Greek Temples. But, I don't know what change I made. In fact I don't recall having edited any Wikipedia page (save this one). No one in my family (who shares our fixed IP address) would vandalize Wikipedia. Could you tell me the the change made or how I could find it in order to try to address the problem? Everyone at our home appreciates Wikipedia and the effort put into making it great. The note was sent to my IP address of 67.103.46.18.

Hi Gary! You can view the edit in question by clicking on this link: [2]. The change basically consisted of adding the word "CHICCKEN" followed dutifully by 71,719 exclamation points. While I usually assume good faith and simply ask that people are careful with their edits, this is a case where I feel the vandalism was time consuming and deliberate enough to call it blatant.

As to who made the edit, it definitely came from the IP address you are using now. Since it wasn't you, and since I can accept your assessment of the other people who use your computer, the only other thing I can think of would be an unsecured wireless router, which would allow other people to use your internet connection (and would use the same IP).

Regardless, I would encourage you to create an account here; it is painless and easy, and you would avoid any problems with blocks placed against the IP address itself (assuming vandalism continued, of course)! Kuru ^talk 00:28, 30 March 2006 (UTC)

Kalendar Koffee House

Hi Ryan, Deleting Kalendar from the coffee house category is wrong. To claim that Kalendar is advertising is also incorrect. The Kalendar article lists date of opening and location with interior photo. The so called "vanity" aspects have been removed from the article. Kalendar may not be as "noteable" as the larger chains, but that should not preclude it from listing in the coffee house category. To call this article spam would be to call all listings in this category spam. The previous AFD article was edited down to be considered for inclusion - tis all. No harm intended. Please reconsider. The following is the opening paragraphs of the Starbucks listing. I imagine that all listings in this category are similar to this.

Starbucks NASDAQ: SBUX (SEHK: 4337), is a large multinational chain of coffee shops, often serving pastries, popular in the US especially among students and young urban professionals. The corporate headquarters are in Seattle, Washington. The company was in part named after Starbuck, a character in Moby-Dick, and its insignia is a stylized cartoon Siren. According to the company's fact sheet, as of February 2006, Starbucks had 6,216 company-operated outlets worldwide: 5,028 of them in the United States and 1,188 in other countries and U.S. territories. In addition, the company has 4,585 joint-venture and licensed outlets, 2,633 of them in the United States and 1,952 in other countries and U.S. territories.

By definition most of the listings in the coffee house category are "non-notable". In fact the majority of the listings are not known outside the constituency where they are established. Being "non-notable" has always been a difficult area for editors. In this instance for example, the band Pursuit of Happiness wrote a song and video about Kalendar (1996 Kalendar/Gretzky Rocks/In Praise Of (T.W.A.-The World's Address). This by definition makes Kalendar a noteable entity by Wikipedia standards see Wikipedia:Notability "A topic has notability if it is known outside of a narrow interest group or constituency, or should be because of its particular importance or impact". If you take a look at the results of your change (here: [3]), you can see that you also deleted large chunks of text from the article in random places. Since these deletions created an unreadable article with odd sentence fragements, the change was reverted. Since the IP you were using had a history of vandalism of the same type[4] (blanking), my assumption was that this was also intended as vandalism. I honestly missed the text you added about the flood, and I apologise for not assuming good faith. I was coming across a talk page and I saw that you might possibly have a script in your monobook file that I've been looking for. I don't know what it's called, but it "automatically" inserts warnings into user talk pages, so to speak. HEY! Stop deleting my update of ther term "Baker"! It i a legitimate slang term used here in O.C., and I have taken the time to try to update it twice, and you deleted it all as vandalism. It is not vandalism! It is a legitimate Socal slang term like "dude", or "bodacious", or "rad." I am really slow at this and you have just wasted a lot of my valuable time. Thanks for asking for more feedback on your additions. There are two problems: (1) the term you're adding looks like a neologism that was just made up. If you can provide citations to articles or any other serious references to allow people to verify the definiton, that would be a great start. (2) the term, or any reference to it is not appropriate for the "baker" article, which is about the obvious usage of the term. You were absolutely on the right track by add a link to a disambiguation page, and then added a new page for "baker (pornography)", but a simple link to the disamb page suffices. O.K.....but how do you cite for a slang term? Even Webster just started including slang terms a few years ago, and this one is relatively new. I thought it would be cool to have it added to the content of your website so that wikipedia could be the first "official" or "legitimate" cite for the term, which is gaining popularity here in SoCal. How do I provide references for a slang term, particularly a relatively new slang term???

And if I were to just add the link to the page that I made explaining the term, instead of adding it to the "inappropriate" definition page, would it have been left alone? Dang AOL proxies! I'd so love to block feebs like the one who hit my talk page, but AOL insists on being contrary. What makes it worse is that I use Netscape's ISP, and that's owned by AOL, and so, in a sense, I am an AOL IP user, as Netscape's IP's are through the AOL pool. When I clean out the CSD pool, it's inevitable that something will stick to my shoe and follow me back to my page. Not much we can do. Thanks for the revert, though. The edit in question [5] appears to be adding the comment "YEAH OX DADDY!!!!!!!" after a teacher's name. While I'm sure you're (rightfully) proud of your school and teachers, such a comment is not encyclopedic and that was the reason I reverted it. None of your other additions were affected. The message I left on your talk page assumed you made the change as a test. I'm not sure what you're refering to when you say I "delete a lot of things that are actually helpful" - if you could provide examples, I would be delighted to address your concerns. i entered some interesting pages which Kuru has said are spam. The pages relate to the topic for example alfa romeo i put a link to a page with a car show organised by the alfa romeo club. I think that some people are a little over enthusiastic with removal etc. I am new to this as you can probably guess. There is a history tab associated with each article. You can use it to look at every change made to an article. You can also use the "watch" tab to add an article to your own personal watchlist. This will show you when a watched article has been changed. Many aquatic articles are on my watchlist, so your changes to Ocellaris Clownfish and Clownfish were very apparent. Absolutely, you are free to add anything you wish to the article. It may be removed if it cannot be verified or if it is off-topic for the article. In this particular case, you added only a section title and no other content for five hours and there were no indicators that you intended to make more edits, so I removed the empty section. It may be helpful to use the "Edit summary" field to indicate what you're trying to do. It may also be helpful to write the section offline and then enter it all at once. Ethical Codes

You removed the links I added for the book Developing A Code of Business Ethics. I understand your point for removing the link, but not for removing the reference. It is not a commercial advertisement - we are a not-for-profit charity and I felt the reference would be of use to anyone wanting more information on this subject. Perhaps you would like to review the information first before you dismiss it as advertising. [7] Is a genuine non-commercial resource.

I review all links before I see added, and I very rarely remove them. The link to the front page of your website has no actual content I could locate quickly - all I could see were advertisements for selling your publications, and offers to subscribe to your services, and descriptions of your organization. I cannot see how this adds value to the articles you added it to. Since you added no other content to the article, I am not sure how you are using your publication as a cite or as a resource - so my assumption is that it is simple promotion for the publication which is being sold at your site. It does not matter that your organization is not-for-profit; it would appear that you are simply trying to promote yourself. If you could explain how this book is more notable than the other hundreds of books on ethics, that would be very helpful. If you could add some significant content to the encyclopedia, and then cite your publication, that would also lend acceptance to including it as a reference. Thanks! A short Esperanzial update

As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.

As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.

Well, I didn't say the article was in poor shape - my point was merely to address how your group meets the guidelines for having an article here. The applicable guidelines for a company are listed at WP:CORP, and they're a little bit on the tight side. Some of the comments about it looking like an ad were because of the non-neutral tone of many of the points in the article. This one of the reasons we also have guidelines on vanity articles (referenced at WP:VANITY) - many people have difficulty in writing articles on subjects where they have a conflict of interest. You apparently really like your company, and that's great, but it makes it difficult to write in the neutral article we require here. I'm afraid that the cursory search I conducted did not turn up a valid article to link to, so I removed the red link. I'm sorry for the confusion, Mike. After I initially looked at the site, it had very, very little to do with The Solomon Key and would appear to simply be a promotional front for an online casino. It was basically a "raffle" for a book that had not even been published and was not an official event. The second time you added the link, it pointed to a small (dozen) list of articles that had nothing to do with the book. Of course, this discounts the advertising slapped all over the page. I have reviewed the link again, and it is unchanged; I'm afraid I don't see any reason the link meets Wikipedia's standards for inclusion.

I have taken into account what you have said and have massively improved and ammended the news page on the solomon key. It now offers a relevent news feed with the added value of being displayed on others sites - this is a unique feature of the site and I personally think a wonferful one offering both relevency and of course something valuable for free. The articles will also be archived allowing for a historical review of relevent news pertaining to the topic of the solomon key and of course dan brown.

Looking over the article and it's history, I'd say you've done the right thing by starting a conversation on the talk page first. Some articles are very, very prone to advertising, spam, and promotional editing. Editors who have cleaned up those articles are usually very quick to react to strange edits that are not supported with neutral cites and lack a good summary. A solid editor named Quarl (talk • contribs) has been watching that page, and will probably be delighted to work with you to address your concerns and improve the article. If someone does not respond to your note on the talk page in a few days, start adding some content to the article as you see fit - just be very careful to source your statements and always be very clear in the edit summaries on what you're trying to do. I'm afraid I'm not terribly versed on the exact topic, other than working in financial institutions for 20 years - I've not seen the specifics for that type of loan. Otherwise, I'd be happy to help. I saw your vote on Alex Martelli's. The short story is that a bad-faith editor is doing scattershod AfD's on articles simply because I created them. If you feel like opining at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Danny Yee (second nomination), I'd welcome that too. It's unfortunate that Yee had a prior article that failed to properly assert notability, and was deleted... Every element of my small contribution to the section devoted to the subsection, "Glenn Beck on Headline News." was factual and pertinent to the topic. What you may consider "Vandalism" will no doubt be regarded as honest and worthy commentary by many others. In fact, my insertion is merely a collection of pointed observations by an objective and unbiased viewer who had never heard of Glenn Beck before two days ago and could therefore have not held any previous opinion on him as a broadcaster one way or another, as opposed to someone like you who seems to be motivated by a distinct political agenda and affinity for Mr. Beck's extremist views. Through my addition to this entry, I was seeking merely to add a deeper perspective and analysis to the extraordinary circumstances under which a major news organization with a reputation for objectivity would hire such an inflammatory persona to fill their most watched newshour.

An intent to disparage Mr. Beck or create vandalism on this site would have included the use of abusive language, indiscriminant commentary, and extensive changing of any of the ten subcategories or frames prior to the section devoted to "Glenn Beck on Headline News." Instead I limited my comments to a only few sentences devoted to the reasons why CNN picked up this controversial host that was literally buried within the body of the entire article in the eleventh subsection, and addressed an area of expertise which I am qualified to contribute.

As someone truly alarmed by the decline of our nation's civility, morality and decency, my entry is a heartfelt contribution which no doubt runs contrary to much of the prevalent negative and biased political thought that dominates our nation and the irrational hopes expressed by Mr. Beck and his supporters for further war in the Middle East. Leadership

Allow me to clarify why The Noble Leader is a legitimate external link.

I am writing a book on leadership, not just my 'musings' on leadership in a blog. I've spent several years researching the topic, and am considered an expert on the topic by my peer reviewers. If you're in doubt, then actually read what's on the website - not just what's on the front page.

Your point that I shouldn't add my own link is reasonable and I accept that. That's not a problem. It was a reviewer of mine that suggested that I put the link on Wikipedia. He thought it would be worth sharing. I will mention to him that it's not appropriate for me to add it, and will suggest that he do so.

Additionally, I've changed my approach on my own website. I will not publish "rough draft" material, but rather material ready for publication only. This may reduce the content somewhat, but everything within would be considered expert opinion by reasonable leadership aficionados.

There's one other thing that I want to say here. Wikipedia is about all of us. It's not just about your view of what you consider legitimate or not. I'm not in this for selfish reasons. I am passionate about leadership, and have spent years learning about it. I have a right to share my knowledge and a link to my book's non-commericial website is reasonable act.

Please stop forcing your views of what is spam on other Wikipedians.

Problem: Mis-numbering and doubling of references

Kuru, a number of us are having problems with articles in which the references have somehow mis-numbered themselves and the Reference section lists each reference twice. You suggested emptying the articles' page caches by appending ?action=purge to the page URLs. That temporary fix works ... but only until someone edits the page and triggers that same mis-behavior. Please, is there some way you could alert the appropriate administrators that someone or something has screwed up the use of Cite.php references?? Thanks in advance. There's nothing I can see that contentious about the statements; they are easily supported by the general HBOT citation given at the bottom of the article. If you'd like links to the specific parts of the HBOT, please ask. Random deletions from the article without comment are not productive or useful for improving the article. Since he deleted them, it appears that he disputes those statements. FWIW, I suspect you're right that the statements are easily supported. But if it's easy, you should simply support the statements with citations. That way, he'd be in the wrong in deleting them without explanation, instead of you being in the wrong for reverting.

The question isn't whether you think or I think the statements are contentious. The question is whether they have sources cited. Wikipedia policy puts the burden on you, as the person who wants to include the statements, not on him, as the person who wants to delete them.

If one clicks on the Handbook of Texas Online link (which took me a long time to find; HBOT is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, and you're talking about HBTO) at the bottom of the article, you don't find anything that supports those statements; instead, you find a search engine. Hell's bells, if that's citing sources, you might as well put a link to google on the sidebar, and claim that everything is cited. But if we do that, might as well shut down Wikipedia, and put a redirect to Google.

If you're unclear on Wikipedia policy, check out Wikipedia:Citing Sources. If you simply want to know how to cite sources, Cite.php is recommended as the preferred means of citing sources, and you'll find great documentation at Wikipedia:Footnotes ClairSamoht 22:58, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

Actually, it appears that he simply removed an entire section of easily sourced text. Without some entry in the edit summary, some attempt at explanation on the talk page, or some history of contention over that section, it appears to be either an accidental deletion or blanking. Since this isn't a WP:BLP issue, and since there is a general cite on the page, I have no problems with simply reverting the deletion and adding a query to the user's talk page, which I did. This occurs with great frequency, and while I try to use discretion as outlined above, this would seem to be a fairly random deletion which warranted reversion. While the burden is indeed on the person supplying the information, it might be wise to verify that there is indeed a contention, or even a request, first.

You have my apologies for using an acronym; I had assumed you frequented the article, or Texas related articles in general. The Handbook of Texas (HBoT) is actually a very large published book, and you're looking at the online version of it. I left specific links to the pages in question several hours ago to avoid just this confusion. It is no more an invalid reference than any other general publication cite. The correlation to 'google' is a bit of a stretch, but I see your point.

As to my familiarity with fundamental concepts in citation on Wikipedia, you can probably simply assume that I've been here a while and that I'm very familiar with them; feel free to look at my history. I'd be happy to work with you to address specific concerns about an article, but let's both dial it back a bit and look at the problem: you feel that there are large segments of the article that lean on a very general reference and should probably point to specific parts of it? The CPI became unreliable to consumers about 10 years ago when the policymakers started to use hedonic adjustments. What this has done is lower the annual number from what really is going on with "prices". To help consumers get a more honest look at what the economy is doing to them, this index called the "Lally Consumer Value Index" (LCVI) was created and distributed. That's fantastic, Mr. Lally. I'm sure you're doing a great job of constructing your index and doing your best to relay it to consumers. Unfortunately, Wikipedia is probably not the best avenue for communicating this information. We are bound by a few core policies that make it difficult to accept your work in either the Consumer price index article, or in an article of your own. The primary problem is that of verification - there simply appears to be no independent confirmation that such an index exists. I was unable to find any reference to it whatsoever. The second problem is that it would appear to be original research, it is simply your personal take on a problem. There are several 'guideline' issues that are problems as well, but please try to understand that this is really a vehicle for encyclopedic entries on notable topics; it's nothing personal, and I'm sure your work is solid. I would encourage you to continue to improve existing articles by improving content and adding material in a neutral manner. Articles for creation

Kuru, I'm the guy who proposed the articles, "Paul is Dead" clues from Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and "Paul is Dead" clues from Magical Mystery Tour earlier. The reason I proposed these articles is because the existing "Paul is dead" article is currently 42 kilobytes long. Articles/sections are always under construction; and I certainly think your interim product is sufficiently stable - aside from the buzzword complaint from another editor. There's a {{Underconstruction}} template you can use, but it's really for warning other editors that you're making significant revisions over a short period of time to avoid edit conflicts. As you've had the notice up for three weeks or so, it just didn't seem useful to convert to the template. Just keep making the excellent additions and expansions you've been making. It's kind of a problem. He's using a different IP almost every time he edits, so you can't block him. Even if he used the same IP, there are such large gaps between his edits that the only solution would be a long block; and it's a really bad idea to block any given IP address for a long time. The article could be semi-protected, but that's usually only done for short periods of time as well. He also has started randomly changing facts on other articles as well, so solving the problem at XO would probably just spread elsewhere. I'll type something up and ask a few of the more experienced admins for advice - the solution may just be to have the articles on a few more people's watchlists. Thanks very much for helping, though. You're probably right - I have not been doing it either. Most of the time, the 'personal attacks' are against some random guy from their school and not against a specific Wikipedia editor, so I've simply deleted the edits and moved on. There have been a few instances where a nonsense AFC request has been part of a pattern of vandalism or personal attacks, and I'll definitely place a warning then.

The other problem is that I'm usually closing out AFC requests that occurred twenty edits ago, and I'm really cautious about warning people assuming that the IP or user in the signature of the item was the actual person that made the edit. AFC requests can turn into mush pretty fast, and trying to sort out who did what is pretty time consuming.

I'm for warning when the attacks are against other editors, but the usual nonsense and tests should probably just be cleared. Kuru ^talk 14:47, 26 December 2006 (UTC)

I do not question it, as I think Wikipedia is a very good source of info that I used on a regular basis. So do not want to spoiled it.

I do think howerver thet there is real content and value in the text and link I posted. When I started work on conversion a few years back, I could not find valuable free documentation. All I ended-up with, where baith to get me to buy a book or services. This is not my intention here and I really think the text is worthwhile to anyone engaging in an ERP conversion.

What must I do to make it neutral (i.e. non-promotional) ?

My apology

I’ve had email discussions with Mr Dawkins and I find that this man is not open to any agreement, for instance he wrote a book review on a book which didn’t dismiss the theory of evolution, it just discussed the problems with the theory. The review he wrote was appalling he didn’t use real science and he poked fun at the author. When I wrote to Mr Dawkins just to ask him why he didn’t dismiss the author scientifically . He wrote a very rude message to me without actually using science. I think there should be a critics section on Mr Dawkins page, this is due to the fact he does not defend his believe he just attacks others.
