Unreferenced BLPs

[edit]

Hello Ragib! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 2 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 317 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

  1. Habibur Rahman - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL
  2. Kamal Hossain - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

Edit war

[edit]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Biman Bangladesh Airlines. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24-hour period. Additionally, users who perform several reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. When in dispute with another editor you should first try to discuss controversial changes to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. Should that prove unsuccessful, you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection. Please stop the disruption, otherwise you may be blocked from editing. Mjroots (talk) 17:56, 5 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, I won't edit the article for the time being. Please check the note I put at ANB. Thanks. --Ragib (talk) 17:56, 5 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I've fully protected the article for 24h to give you both time to discuss the issue and prevent either of you from being blocked for breaking the 3 revert rule. Concentrate on the issue, not who has the opposing opinion and keep it civil please. Mjroots (talk) 18:04, 5 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That's the right approach, thanks for that. Again, I was not going to edit the article anyway, and I think Zaps and I are reaching a way out in the discussion on his talk page. But thanks for your work. --Ragib (talk) 18:07, 5 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The article was already indefinitely move protected. I did not alter that. All I did was edit protect it for 24h, a perfectly reasonable action to get both sides in a dispute to talk to each other via the article talk page. Mjroots (talk) 18:14, 5 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I seem to have misread the infinite-move protection to be infinite-edit protection. Sorry about that. Your action is fine and reasonable, thanks for that. Have a nice day. --Ragib (talk) 18:17, 5 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Help on Continual Edit

[edit]

Ragib Bhai, I have created a page on Chowdhury Mueen-Uddin. Though I've not completed, the contents of this article is being changed repeatedly by someone. I think, I've given enough references supporting the content. I've undone the changes. But I'm afraid my IP will be blocked/I'll be punished for continual edits/undo's on the same content. What should I do now? I'm confused. Should I leave the article to that person who is changing the content as soon as I add any information? I need help. Thanks. NasrinatWiki (talk) 16:31, 9 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you

Thanks for the useful links and also for the editing that you have done for Ferdausi Rahman's page. I would like to upload a picture of her, but finding it difficult. I need to thru the tutorial and help pages .. I guess.

Thanks.

Hi - Please help needed for clean up

[edit]

Hi Ragib, Can you please help clean up this article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sonia_Ahmed Thank you .

--Sonisona 10:30, 16 February 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sonisona (talkcontribs)

You have removed a complete section here, these were interviews done on all major newspapers around the world, Plus there were quotes mentioned by this person. Can you explain why this has been done, and if so, instead of deleting it... add them in the reference section.

An entire section is deleted, and they were important. --Sonisona 22:43, 17 February 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sonisona (talkcontribs)

Please refer to WP:NOT. --Ragib (talk) 04:58, 18 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I did refer - but those are important news and quotes... where do you think that will come under....? All those were important links to show that the news papers have carried articles about the company and the president as well as the beauty queens...--Sonisona 08:10, 19 February 2010 (UTC) --67.204.3.201 (talk) 08:09, 19 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, but you added the huge list of links to the point of spamming the page. Once again, please read WP:NOT once again, in particular, the section Wikipedia:NOT#Wikipedia_is_not_a_mirror_or_a_repository_of_links.2C_images.2C_or_media_files. Also, it will be a conflict of interest in your part to continue editing the article. Please don't edit the page, rather make your suggestion in the talk page. --Ragib (talk) 08:13, 19 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ragib,

Could you give me a hand with this article. Having difficulty explain to some of the new editors what FA means.

a little more help needed

[edit]

first of all, i am extremely sorry for my words, i didn't know that you are a moderator and it's your job to clean up unnecessary additions from wiki. Secondly, I thank you for removing the controversial paragraph from the starting section of North South University. But I still have something to say: Keeping the referenced section named "2009 student rape controversy" just because it is referenced and wikipedia allows to add referenced controversy doesn't make any sense. You must be aware that millions of students around the worlds searches for universities in the Wikipedia before they search it in google. Some controversies shouldn't always be praised just because they are referenced. If you are Bangladeshi, then you must be aware that a lot of public universities have such controversial news about them. But can you show me a single university whose wiki page shows those controversies? NSU is a reputed private university of Bangladesh and that's why some people find it as their duty to spread every single controversial news around the world. And about the references, the newagebd's article also writes the same news for Dhaka University. So why don't we post the news in that wiki page too. So, please just think about it!

[edit]

First , thank you for your all big efforts for all bangladesh pages. BUT, please consider to give the new generation a chance to give a new, fresh look for bangaldesh articles. i assume , u r smart and educated, so please take some holiday from wikipedia and try to do something else for bangladesh rather than making wikipedia your personal pedia. There are enough educated bangladeshis worldwide online to build bangladeshi wikipedia and you can come back few years later to see the progress. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.65.231.123 (talk) 19:19, 3 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

To put it bluntly, my reply to you would simply be "Mind your Own business". If you want to rant about domination of any country in Wikipedia, feel free to do whatever you want in your own time. I do not appreciate any unsolicited advice on how I should or should not spend my time. Besides, judging by your recent "work" here, giving you a free rein of wikipedia is not a good idea :). Also, please don't wave the "younger generation" flag ... there are plenty of well-meaning wikipedians from Bangladesh who are doing a very good job, and not spending time venting their personal issues or hate of other groups/countries.
So, Nada, no, I'll spend my time doing whatever I want, thank you. --Ragib (talk) 00:48, 4 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please place a finite full-protection on Bangladesh Liberation War

[edit]

According to the protection log for the article "Bangladesh Liberation War" your have fully-protected the article indefinitely, something that seems a bit much being that the two major people involved in the edit war about various subjects in the article will probably forget about it after a few weeks. It's generally not considered a healthy idea for any article on Wikipedia to be indefinitely protected, because it in effect eliminates any effective eddits to the article and dramatically slows down an articles rate of improvement. Thank You

If you are the anon ip that added a large amount of text copied from a book, then I need to warn you about copyright violation problems. You cannot simply copy text off a book. If you re-insert that text, it will be removed, and continuous copyright violations will lead to bans. Hope you understand the rationale behind the revert. --Ragib (talk) 06:18, 2 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

FYI, you copypasted the text from this book. If you redo the copyvio, you will be blocked. --Ragib (talk) 06:21, 2 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I just hate the willful and stupid British-enforced Sinicization of the REAL name of India's most sacred river, the Ganga. I'll let it be. Following up on the noticeboard discussion, I think the best thing to do is start a new discussion on what the community thinks is best to do with pages like this. I've started a page at Wikipedia:Bible verses/2010. It's been five years since any of this was discussed at all. Most of the people from back then are gone, and the community and its standards have also changed. Hopefully a fresh discussion can result in a resolution everyone will be happy with, and it'd be great to have your participation. - SimonP (talk) 06:06, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ragib Vai, sorry for some undo in List of Companies in Bangladesh. Actually, I followed Philippines' categories. It has a category for hotels and resorts. Hello. That was a 'protection conflict'. I'd prefer the reason and the move protection to remain, but are you still interested in semi-protection now that it's move-locked. I think maybe we can see how it goes without the semi. -- zzuuzz (talk) 20:07, 29 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Only autoconfirmed users can move pages, so autoconfirmed move protection doesn't actually do anything. It's so unusual to see it that I misread it as normal semi-protection. We are on the same page, so all's good. -- zzuuzz (talk) 20:21, 29 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know what your qualification is but there have been new discoveries that point to the fact the The Vedas are much oloder than what the Europeans have been telling us during the last two hundred years. Read about the River Saraswati first before accusing me of vandalism.

I am not doing vandalism. You are following the wrong information provided by old historians like Max Mueller and William Jones about the Vedas. We know today that the River Saraswati existed more that 4000-5000 years ago. Therefore hymns ot River Saraswati are from much earlier. http://www.stephen-knapp.com/recent_research_on_the_sarasvati_river.htm

It is high time we start rubbishing the false-preaching of supremacist European historians from the last century. We have to start realising that The Vedic culture of Sindhu-Saraswati river valley is much older that any European culture. Europe was under miles of ice during 35000-7000 BCE anyway, which historians of the last century did not even know of. However much guys like you try, it will be ultimately proved that its Vedic culture which has civilised the people of the world, and Sanskrit has travelled all over the world from the Sindhu-Saraswati river civilisation. The fact the there are so many words in Europe that have evolved from Sanskrit prove the fact. For eg.- Dwar-door, danta-denta, naaw-vigyan- navigation, gau-cow, dwo-two, tri-three, pancha-penta, sasta-sexa, sapta-septa, ashta-octa, nava-nova, dasa-deca, deva/ devi-devine, etc etc.. Also know very well, there was no civilisation in Central Asia from where Vedic civilisation came to India. It was all under ice upto 7000 BCE. Indus Valley Civilisation (Sindhu-Saraswati civilisation) is at least 9000 years old. Research Mehrgarh for yourself! I don't know where you are from or who you are. But knowledge about ancient India cannot be subverted by guys like you for much longer. BritishIndian (talk) 20:06, 31 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Nice rant. :). But wrong page. The talk page you are looking for is Talk:Rigveda. --Ragib (talk) 20:21, 31 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps you can be of help here. I think it obvious that this and the two related article subjects are notable, but we've got a novice editor, who doesnt know what links to use, or how to avoid copyvio. Can you perhaps find some references--I think you are more able to do so than I am. (And if they are all copyvio, could you simply stubbify them appropriately--again, you'll do it better than I will). Thanks, DGG ( talk ) 07:31, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

our edits seem to have crossed, and I see you do not agree with me as I seem to have assumed you would. We had better have the discussion there. DGG ( talk ) 07:37, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
BTW, I don't say that I disagree with you. The article is badly written, and makes false claims as of original writeup. The writer is a newbie and probably has poor grasp of English (another possibility is that he is the webmaster for all these institutions, and is simply using the same style used in the webpages). I dug up some refs below. Hope that will help show that the institution is real. Establishing notability is another issue, the school is (in)famous for its militant students, but the first item below shows that political leaders do give some reverence to it. --Ragib (talk) 08:16, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your message. The madrassah is real. It is also probably notable, at least regionally. I did a quick search in Bengali using the madrassah's common name (হাটহাজারী মাদ্রাসা "Hathazari Madrassah"), which shows some recent media mentions:
Hope this helps. Try searching with the madrassah's common name "Hathazari Madrassah" (use spelling variation of "madrassah"). --Ragib (talk) 07:43, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hai Regarding My edit on Persecution of Hindus

[edit]

Dear friend, I am a veteran editor of wiki who hail from Pondicherry UT. Most of my articles r related to Pondichery and french indian colonial history. When creating an article for Jeanne Dupleix, I have mentioned regarding destruction of a very sacred temple for Pondicherry Tamil Hindus. It was narrated by Ananda Ranga Pillai, the chief Dubash of then Governor Dupleix. I have kept that content here. Its upto you whether It can remain or not in this article. Obviously that content will remain in few of Pondicherry and French Indian related articles. I donno whether it will permitted here or not. Have a nice time friend. cya..tc.. Regarding Caste system among South Asian Muslims

[edit]

Since I quoted from a well established source; there is no reason that portion of the article should be removed. Wikipedia is a site of verifiable neutral articles. Removing those portions will dampen the whole point of the article i.e. the origin and revival of casteism in Indian subcontinent. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Varanwal (talkcontribs) 16:42, 10 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the clarification. Now, if the original author of the painting wants to release it in Wikipedia then he too has to scan it or take a photo. Then how does he prove that he is the original creator of the painting? —Preceding unsigned comment added by BengaliHindu (talkcontribs) 14:48, 18 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Maulana Ahmed

[edit]

You cited ref name="dstar" in Al-Jamiatul Ahlia Darul Ulum Moinul Islam for Maulana Ahmed being an alternate name of the director of the school, Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi. However, I cannot find the word Maulana at all in the source. I'm wondering if Maulana Ahmed might be somebody else, and that is what User:Bakrbinaziz is trying to remove. —CodeHydro 21:15, 17 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"Maulana" is not part of the director's name, rather it is an honorific/job title, equivalent to "Professor" or "Scholar". You can refer to the following sentence in the Daily Star article:
Director of Hathazari Boro Madrasa Ahmad Shafi, popularly known as Boro Huzur, and Chairman of a faction of Islami Oikya Jote (IOJ) Mufti Izharul Islam are its main founders.
So, the article is referring to Mr. Ahmad, also referred to as Maulana Ahmad for his job and role as a religious scholar. --Ragib (talk) 21:19, 17 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, well that is confusing for those of us who don't know. I've linked Maulana to the article Mawlānā... hopefully that will make things slightly less confusing. —CodeHydro 21:48, 17 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sock?

[edit]

Hi. I'm looking at copyright problems connected to Hetam (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · page moves · block user · block log), and it leaves me wondering if he's been seen before, perhaps as Surajcap (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · page moves · block user · block log)? Since you're familiar with him and the areas where he works, I thought I'd ask your opinion. Does his pattern look familiar? (I know he has also edited as 117.254.247.150 (talk · contribs · WHOIS), 117.254.250.37 (talk · contribs · WHOIS), 117.254.249.211 (talk · contribs · WHOIS), 117.254.73.181 (talk · contribs · WHOIS); I'm sure there are others.) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 14:06, 21 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I see that they do. If you believe he is a sock puppet of Surajcap, why is he not blocked? Is there insufficient evidence? --Moonriddengirl (talk) 14:49, 21 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Another admin came by to ask if Mangalkavya (talk · contribs) looked like Hetam (talk · contribs) who (of course) is blocked as a sock of Surajcap (talk · contribs). It's plausible, but I'm unsure. You're much more familiar with his work than I am; does he look like a sock to you? --Moonriddengirl (talk) 18:20, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, yeah, this is almost definitely a surajcap/hetam sock (the modus operandi is to copy paste the same content (dubiously referenced) into multiple articles. As you can see, he has done this at Singur and Hooghly district and Hooghly River. --Ragib (talk) 18:30, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thanks. Off he goes then. Can you take a look at that page move he's done? I'm not sure if that should be undone, I'd initially asked Shovon since he and I worked on cleaning up some of the Hetam edits. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 18:32, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

hello

[edit]

hi. you could have a look at Greater Bangladesh and the debate on its T:TDYK nomination? I would like to address the issue, but I'm tied up in some other on-wiki and off-wiki chores at the moment. I think the major fallacy at the moment is that the article doesn't treat the concept as a theory (or possibly, a conspiracy theory) and doesn't present any Bangladeshi views on the debate. If you don't have time, just let me know, thanks, --Soman (talk) 23:50, 31 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have replied to your points on T:TDYK. In addition, I propose that if an independent reviewer there finds a problem based on WP:DYK policy, then I will withdraw the DYK nomination w/o hesitation. I don't have a problem with that - I don't covet DYK credit and I don't want any article appearing on DYK if there is a genuine problem involved. If the reason is serious enough, we can discuss the matter to the article talkpage and/or WP:INB and sort it out.
There is one thing though - I do take exception at the use of "conveniently off-line sources". That connotes some intention to deceive, and I would take offense to that if you are actually under that impression. How would you feel sir, if I said you are objecting because you are Bangladeshi yourself and taking personal offense at the possibility of elements in your country being involved in this design? It is true that I may not have evaluated the data through deeply enough, but several of those sources are available from Google books online - I guess I just didn't think it necessary to add the url in {{cite book}} if all publication details were provided anyway. Khan academy

if salman khan is born to a bangladeshi family than why he is the senior member and speaker at Organization of Pakistani Entrepreneurs of North America?? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sch2020 (talkcontribs) 00:08, 2 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You and your IP are continuously reinserting this. However, if you go to Khan's own website [2], it clearly states the following:

So, please stop inserting false information. Khan's membership in organizations does not matter, since he himself states (and also reiterated in the Fortune article) that his father is from Barisal, Bangladesh. --Ragib (talk) 00:16, 2 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

his father is a bangladeshi i agree but at that time bangladesh was the part of Pakistan or known as East Pakistan, so please note that and thats why he is the part of Organization of Pakistani Entrepreneurs of North America

Salman Khan Educator

his father is a bangladeshi i agree but at that time bangladesh was the part of Pakistan or known as East Pakistan, so please note that and thats why he is the part of Organization of Pakistani Entrepreneurs of North America —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sch2020 (talkcontribs) 00:27, 2 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

At one time, my father and mother were in East Pakistan, and my grandfather was in British India, and many generations ago, was part of Mughal empire. That does not make myself Indian or Pakistani.
As for Salman Khan speaking at some conference, oh please!! Let me show who else also spoke in the conference: Tom Campbell, Former Dean Haas School of Business; six-term Congressman; Economist. And would you claim Congressman Campbell to be Pakistani as well, just because he spoke at that conference? LOL. --Ragib (talk) 00:34, 2 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

So we should create a new category People from Indian mughal empire, that does not make any sense to me an indian or a bangaldeshi a senior speaker or member of OPEN ? if thats the case than why there are not anymore indians in the conference and KHAN is a pashtun sir name dont forget the facts. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sch2020 (talkcontribs) 00:50, 2 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It really doesn't matter what you think, when Salman Khan himself states his origins very clearly. There are literally hundreds of people in Bangladesh who have the "Khan" surname. (not to mention the famous "Khan"s of Bollywood, who are Indians). Unless you also claim Congressman Campbell to be a Pakistani based on his attendance and being a senior speaker at OPEN, please don't wave the conference as Sal Khan's "Pakistani"ness. You are simply wasting everyone's time by claiming you know better than Mr. Khan what his national origins are. --Ragib (talk) 00:56, 2 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
So,you are trying to say that KHAN is a bangladeshi sur name ? we all know the facts . i don't want to argue you on this but lets be just honest .All the khans came from north pakistan or from afghanistan even shahrukh khan has stated this , it is a fact that know one should deny it —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sch2020 (talkcontribs) 01:03, 2 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I am saying that many people in Bangladesh have the "Khan" surname. Where they came from 5 generations ago does not matter. The hundreds of thousands of Khans living in Bangladesh are not Pakistani just because of their names. :) --Ragib (talk) 01:10, 2 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of articles when others are trying to improve upon it.

[edit]

Ragib, I have created some articles previously deleted. The reasons that they were deletd were they were poorly written without proper info but when we are working upon new articles to improve it why do you delete them without cause. You should understand what is notability.I wrote the articles from a nutral point of view.Wkipedia is no place for promotion. One can easily do that in the media. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Poet009 (talkcontribs) 07:19, 18 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Sonnet, please don't keep creating your own autobiography on wikipedia. And even more, please don't claim you are a separate person ... you've been quite active in promoting your bio in many places. Your autobiography was deleted after a proper discussion, and recreating it is not allowed. --Ragib (talk) 07:26, 18 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Ragib, First of all I think you should find out Sonnet Mondal's address and match with my address.I am not Sonnet Mondal. Why are you changing my name? This is Rohit Pandey from Shibpur and about the article about Sonnet Mondal, I had added so many references from media clippings.I thought that the article may not have been properly written before. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Poet009 (talkcontribs) 07:48, 18 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
