Hi Anomie, it appears that AnomieBOT has not updated the list at Wikipedia:Files for discussion#Old discussions for the past few days. Could you please restart this job? Thanks, FASTILY 05:39, 6 January 2019 (UTC)

The bot could no longer find the relevant section after this edit, so it was unable to update it. I've updated it for the changed link. Anomie 00:18, 7 January 2019 (UTC)

Great work!

The Detective Barnstar
For tracking down the cause of T210739 and coding the fix for it. You're an MVP (most valuable programmer)! wbm1058 (talk) 20:29, 25 January 2019 (UTC)
Thanks! Although technically it should probably belong to my other account. Anomie 01:02, 26 January 2019 (UTC)
I second this; fantastic work! I am going to copy the barnstar there too. hujiTALK 02:33, 26 January 2019 (UTC)

OMG

I don't know how your bot works. In fact I don't care. Things like this are just magic as far as I'm concerned. Thank you for your effort. --Dweller (talk) Become old fashioned! 18:36, 28 January 2019 (UTC)

One of your scripts seems to have stopped working

Hi Anomie. The script that I've used countless times, AjaxPreview, seems to have stopped working recently. I've been getting this in the console. Are you still maintaining it?

Thanks, Dat GuyTalkContribs 21:09, 9 February 2019 (UTC)

It's working for me, with Monobook and the "2010 editor". Are you using something else? Anomie 21:39, 9 February 2019 (UTC)
Vector, not sure what you mean by 2010 editor? Dat GuyTalkContribs 15:15, 10 February 2019 (UTC)
I've fixed a few things in the script, although it seemed to be working for me in Vector too. mw:Editor has an overview of the different editors. Anomie 17:55, 10 February 2019 (UTC)
Thank you, your fixes seemed to have worked. I believe I'm using a formatted version of the source editor (did the original have colours? don't remember) but I can't find out which in the preferences. Dat GuyTalkContribs 13:08, 11 February 2019 (UTC)

AnomieBOT - ITN/C disabled

Hi. I wanted to let you know that I have disabled the ITN/C archiver task. I left a fuller explanation at the run page for the task. Thanks, --DannyS712 (talk) 07:23, 16 February 2019 (UTC)

Nomination for merging of Module:String

Module:String has been nominated for merging with Module:String2 and Module:StringFunc. You are invited to comment on the discussion at the template's entry on the Templates for discussion page. Thank you. {{3x|p}}ery (talk) 02:11, 17 February 2019 (UTC)

Module:String has changed so much from when I originally created it... Anomie 15:01, 17 February 2019 (UTC)

POTD protected templates

So I'm in the process of doing a cleanup of unused templates. There are a couple of thousand POTD templates (see here) that are unused. Can you help me understand the purpose of creating a separate "protected" version of the template? For example {{POTD protected/2018-01-02}} and {{POTD/2018-01-02}} are basically the same. I saw that your bot is creating the duplicates so I wanted to check with you. Thanks! Please {{ping|zackmann08}} in your response. --Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 00:14, 28 February 2019 (UTC)

@Zackmann08: As I mentioned at Special:Diff/885253438/885257167, as far as I know they exist so the Main Page cascading protection doesn't protect the general-use daily POTD templates and their subtemplates. I see you asked about them at Wikipedia talk:Picture of the day#Unused Templates, where you're likely to get a more specific answer. Anomie 00:29, 28 February 2019 (UTC)
@Anomie: Gotcha. Sorry trying to follow too many conversations... --Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 00:30, 28 February 2019 (UTC)

Does bot use this?

Is this Template:Unblock-bot part of AnomieBOT III functions? It is up for deletion ~ R.T.G 08:10, 8 March 2019 (UTC)

No, it's not. Anomie 14:25, 8 March 2019 (UTC)

BAG request

Hi. I saw Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/AnomieBOT III 5, and it looks like it'll be really useful. But, it reminded me that there is a growing backlog at WP:BRFA. Is there any chance you would be willing to take a look at Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/DannyS712 bot 11, which extends an earlier task of mine, and/or Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/DannyS712 bot 7, which is a straightforward removal of tags (at the request of the editor that added them)? Thanks, --DannyS712 (talk) 04:25, 9 March 2019 (UTC)

P.S. I got a real kick out of trying User:Anomie/censorship --DannyS712 (talk) 04:25, 9 March 2019 (UTC)

Do you know if there's a way for the link-classifier to recognize a link to a blocked user's page /talkpage / subpage? Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 23:58, 4 April 2019 (UTC)

Not currently. Such a thing could be added, or it could be done as a separate script without resulting in duplicate API queries. Anomie 11:33, 5 April 2019 (UTC)
Well I know I doesn't do that now, but I was looking at the Signpost's subscription list and figure it would be useful to have around. Is that something you could add to your script? Or make a separate new one? Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 11:48, 5 April 2019 (UTC)
Nevermind, there's a gadget just for that. Doesn't behave exactly like I want, but it's good enough that I can work with it.Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 14:15, 5 April 2019 (UTC)

Zotero

Hi Anomie. I've been using Zotero for research for a while and have just been exploring the generation of citations directly from it. I've set the Preferences>Export>Default Format to be "Wikipedia Citation Templates" and it has been generating {{cite book}} and friends happily. Quite often though I am working on pages where the WP:CITEVAR uses {{citation}} which Zotero doesn't seem able to generate. Being a lazy old programmer I tend to expect computers to run around deciding on defaults and linkage, so prefer the latter method accordingly. Do you know if there is an easy way to make Zotero use {{citation}}? Not a major problem, most of the time it's only half-a-dozen keystrokes to change style (told you I was lazy). Regards, Martin of Sheffield (talk) 13:40, 18 April 2019 (UTC)

Unfortunately I know nothing of Zotero beyond that it's used by Citoid for generating some citations. Sorry. Anomie 14:49, 18 April 2019 (UTC)
OK, thanks. Sorry for timewasting. Best, Martin of Sheffield (talk) 15:07, 18 April 2019 (UTC)

Unsure what was wrong

Hi, I can't work out how the script can be improved, from your edit summary. Tony (talk) 02:58, 3 May 2019 (UTC)

@Tony1: (talk page stalker) Are you referring to [1]? --DannyS712 (talk) 03:14, 3 May 2019 (UTC)
@DannyS712: Yes. Tony (talk) 07:50, 3 May 2019 (UTC)
@Tony1: Mostly the issue is that {{row indexer|<nowiki>...</nowiki>}} is conceptually broken rather than your script. But the script itself could be improved by including dates when it adds {{Primary source inline}}, and could avoid adding it to a reference where the template is already there (as in two places in Special:Diff/890235565). Anomie 11:42, 3 May 2019 (UTC)
@Ohconfucius: might be able to improve it, as the technical steward of the script. Tony (talk) 02:38, 4 May 2019 (UTC)

About your offer

Hi Anomie. In your own time, I'd like to take you up on your offer to run AnomieBOT III against those old IP blocks, if the offer's still open. The consensus is unanimous so I wouldn't have thought there'd be any Bot approval issues, but you'd know more about that than me. There's a couple of quarry queries available from that discussion. I'd say just watch out for the username accounts which always appear in these lists. Apart from that, there's no other exceptions to note. Thanks. -- zzuuzz (talk) 09:49, 5 May 2019 (UTC)

It's easy enough to adjust the query to filter out the username blocks: quarry:query/35664. Procedures for approval still have to be followed, especially for adminbots. BRFA filed. Anomie 14:50, 5 May 2019 (UTC)
Thanks, looks good to me. -- zzuuzz (talk) 15:13, 5 May 2019 (UTC)

Hello Anomie, I'm from ckbwiki. I have two questions about your script; first, is this script work like a gadget on other Wikipedias? Second, What should i do to convert numerals from 0, 1, 2, 3...9 to ۱, ۲, ۳...۹? For example: changing 15:00, 29 May 2019 (UTC) to ۱٥:۰۰, ۲۹ May ۲۰۱۹ (UTC)

Note: Ignore the name of months and comma after the time; i fixed both. Thanks! ئارام بکر (talk) 15:27, 29 May 2019 (UTC)

It could work on other Wikipedias, but if you wanted it as a gadget it would have to be added as one. As for changing the numbers, you'd have to edit the code in the makeUnsignedTemplate function. Anomie 00:50, 30 May 2019 (UTC)

Question about recent database change

Hi Anomie, I saw on the phabricator ticket that you're the author of the recently implemented change to the database. It may be unrelated, but WugBot stopped working on June 4th and I can't seem to find a reason why. I had looked into the ticket prior to the changes, but thought they wouldn't affect the bot since I read the live revision, not querying the database. Would the implemented change be something that would affect a pywikibot reading pages, or does it only affect SQL queries of the database? Wugapodes [thɑk] [ˈkan.ˌʧɹɪbz] 02:25, 6 June 2019 (UTC)

Resolved. Turns out the timing was just a coincidence and it was indeed my own fault. Wugapodes [thɑk] [ˈkan.ˌʧɹɪbz] 02:32, 6 June 2019 (UTC)
Glad you figured it out. For the record, it was me with my other hat on that was the author, but pinging this account is far more likely for me to actually see it as I seldom find need to use the other. Anomie 12:35, 6 June 2019 (UTC)

AnomieBot notification of June 16

I would like to question regarding {{citation needed}} tags. In what way is it needed to date cn tags. Could you explain why are there soooo... many ways to write cn tags, and importance of writing the ‘date=June 2019’ part. Thanks! CalEditerILikeTrain (talk) 01:28, 16 June 2019 (UTC)🍐

There are so many ways because over the years people have thought various alternative names would be useful. The date is for sorting into subcategories of Category:Articles with unsourced statements, so people wishing to work on the backlog can start with the newest or oldest articles I suppose. Feel free to use whichever redirect you prefer, and feel free to allow the bot to add the date if you'd like. Or, in most cases, you can use {{subst:cn}} to automatically produce the full "{{Citation needed|date=June 2019}}". Anomie 01:42, 16 June 2019 (UTC)

About unsignedhelper's script

Resolved

Hello Anomie, I want to ask about your sript. I copy and paste the script to one of the my subpage and use it. It s very helpful for me and those users who imported it. However, The format numbers are Arabic. Can you show me a way to change the format (e.g. 0, 1, 2 ... 9 to ۰, ۱, ۲, ... ۹)? Thanks! ⇒ AramTalk 13:12, 6 July 2019 (UTC)

You already asked this and were answered above at User talk:Anomie#User:Anomie/unsignedhelper.js. Anomie 00:28, 7 July 2019 (UTC)
I'm sorry for repeating the request! I fixed it by adding two linecode at here. Thanks again! ⇒ AramTalk 08:08, 7 July 2019 (UTC)

useridentifier: Uncaught TypeError

Hi Anomie. Your useridentifier script gives Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'defaultValue' of null on Special:Log. I think 'mw-log-user' in var u=['',document.getElementById('mw-log-user').defaultValue]; needs to be changed to 'mw-input-user'. I think the id was changed when the form was updated to OOUI. — JJMC89(T·C) 05:58, 14 July 2019 (UTC)

Sanity check

Could you make sure I didn't say anything stupid/wrong in [3]? Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 21:35, 27 July 2019 (UTC)

@Headbomb: The "as if it were a different user" bit isn't entirely accurate, since it implies that the "bot" is still logged in to its own account and OAuth is working like some sort of sudo. In reality, OAuth is a way to just be logged in to an account without having to know the account's password. Anomie 21:44, 27 July 2019 (UTC)
Well, how would you describe this? Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 21:53, 27 July 2019 (UTC)
As used there, "OAbot" is not terribly different from an edit like Special:Diff/902822949 where you used AWB. The fact that the tool also runs on its own as User:OAbot seems somewhat confusing. Anomie 13:24, 28 July 2019 (UTC)

May I ask you to look at one of my edits, please?

In Causes of the Holodomor, Consequence of collectivization an editor added a {whom} in a slightly odd place, while there is an appropriate ref at the end of a not very long sentence. Your bot quite appropriately added a date to the {whom}, which is a neat feature, thank you.

The editor also commented "This is written like some Marxist historian's opinion. please name him."

I looked at the ref and discovered that it was all in Ukrainian -- even though it is similar to Russian there are some differences -- but I could make it out well enough. So I translated the author etc, checked with Google to make sure, and then for fun ran the archived PDF through Google, and it did a pretty good job. (It's horrible at French, a bit of a joke, in fact.)

The author of the ref actually took quite a critical view, far from a Marxist one, not surprising given that he is a Ukrainian historian,

So I ended up with a somewhat odd looking ref and because you are such an experienced editor, and also run bots, I wondered if you might take a quick look, it is just one reference.

Many thanks!

= Peter NYC (talk) 03:43, 16 August 2019 (UTC)

@Peter NYC: Personally I'd have used one of the citation templates such as {{cite web}}. Those templates have parameters for handling translated titles and such. As for the citation itself, there's probably no need to link to Google Translate (people can do that themselves if they need to) and I'd think MOS:CQ and MOS:LQUOTE would still apply to the “революції зверху,” bit. You might ask for more advice at an appropriate noticeboard, perhaps WP:Village pump (miscellaneous) or WT:Citing sources. Anomie 10:52, 16 August 2019 (UTC)
Thank you very much for having a look! I didn't write the piece, or the original ref, so I missed the quotation marks and punctuation when I did the translation; fixed those. Normally I would have used a cite template but got a bit confused, and will have another close look at the documentation to see how to deal with this.
The reason I linked to the Google translation was that at the web archive you can't just right-click and get a translation, all it does is translate the English header. So people have to know that they can copy the URL from the web archive and stick it into Google Translate, and from my experience that's not something many people know. As you suggested, I'll take this to the Village pump.

Why ask you

Thanks for taking a look at the DYK thread I pinged you in, and sorry if it was confusingly out of the blue. You're one of the only people I know who's up to speed on mediawiki development, and thought you'd know if something changed recently or who would be better to ask about any recent changes. WT:Notifications seems like a good, bet so thanks for pointing me there! Wug·a·po·des22:51, 17 August 2019 (UTC)

It's no problem. MediaWiki development is a pretty wide field, and Echo isn't one of the parts I pay much attention to. Anomie 23:09, 17 August 2019 (UTC)

Moving a page

Hi. Since you are one of the administrators, I thought you would be able to move this page for me. The title that I wanted to move it to, which is the artist's first name, already exists as a redirect, yet it seems to be the common name based on her pages on social media and music platforms. There's also no existing discussion or RM on the article's talk page. Could you move the page to "Karsu", please? Keivan.fTalk 00:59, 31 August 2019 (UTC)

Try WP:Requested moves. Anomie 02:17, 31 August 2019 (UTC)

AnomieBot III

Hello, Anomie,

I check AnomieBot III's user page for broken redirects on user pages that the bot does not take care of. But that page seems to have changed in the last day or so. It use to have lists of broken redirects that needed to be taken care of but now, hardly anything appears. Since it seems pretty consistent that there are always some broken redirects that need attention, it's odd to see no list at all. Go into the page history from a few days ago & you can see how much it's changed.

Any idea what the problem is? It's just part of my regular routine to check this page (which I can't link to from a phone) and I wondered why things had suddenly changed. Thanks. Liz Read! Talk! 03:47, 30 November 2019 (UTC)

Perhaps people stopped creating broken redirects for the recent US holiday? Or, more likely, it looks like the database replicas are having significant lag which will affect the BrokenRedirectDeleter task's ability to find broken redirects. When the lag was rising the bot would likely not have been seeing any new redirects, and now as the lag seems to be falling again it may still be seeing redirects that humans have manually fixed. Anomie 14:19, 30 November 2019 (UTC)
BTW, thanks for taking the time to fix the things that the bot can't! Anomie 14:24, 30 November 2019 (UTC)
