Brooder deletion
For Wikipedia:Redirects_for_discussion/Log/2021_September_1#Brooder, there were 2 DAB and 2 delete votes. After the second Del vote which based itself off the first on the search results argument, I added my comment, and it has been 2 days with no response from them. I can ping the voters for a response. Jay (Talk) 15:04, 21 September 2021 (UTC)
- You can be bold, if you'd like. I considered WP:NCRET, but without a disambiguation page, retargeting to one place runs the risks of making the other usages even harder to find. --BDD (talk) 15:08, 21 September 2021 (UTC)
- I am not speaking in favour of retarget now, as I understand there was no further support. But I am speaking against deletion for the reasons they mentioned (better search results). Jay (Talk) 15:27, 21 September 2021 (UTC)
- Being bold can mean creating a disambiguation page too. Or are you saying you did support the status quo? --BDD (talk) 15:42, 21 September 2021 (UTC)
- I didn't support the DAB as I mentioned in my vote. So probably, undelete and keep the discussion for a few more days? Jay (Talk) 15:48, 21 September 2021 (UTC)
- It was open for about six weeks, with a couple of relists. You're free to do whatever you'd like with the title, but reopening, and reposting the day's RfD page and/or relisting would all be more trouble than it's worth. --BDD (talk) 15:59, 21 September 2021 (UTC)
- Ok, let's leave it at that. I just wanted to register my surprise at the no consensus delete. The six weeks is of less importance when we consider that the last delete vote (which may have been the swing vote) was made 3 days back, and my rejoinder was 2 days back. September 2021 Guild of Copy Editors newsletter
Guild of Copy Editors September 2021 Newsletter
Hello and welcome to the September GOCE newsletter, a brief update of Guild activities since June 2021. Current and upcoming events
September Drive: Our current backlog-elimination drive is open until 23:59 on 30 September (UTC) and is open to all copy editors. Sign up today! Drive and Blitz reports
June Blitz: From 20 to 26 June, 6 participating editors claimed 16 copy edits, focusing on requests and articles tagged in March and April. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. July Drive: Almost 575,000 words of articles were copy edited for this event. Of the 24 people who signed up, 18 copyedited at least one article. Final results and awards are listed here. August Blitz: From 15 to 21 August, we copy edited articles tagged in April and May 2021 and requests. 9 participating editors completed 17 copy edits on the blitz. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. Other news
June election: Jonesey95 was chosen to continue as lead coordinator, assisted by Dhtwiki, Tenryuu, and Miniapolis. New maintenance template added to our project scope: After a short discussion in June, we added {{cleanup tense}} to the list of maintenance templates that adds articles to the Guild's copy editing backlog categories. This change added 198 articles, spread over 97 months of backlog, to our queue. We processed all of those articles except for those from the three or four most recent months during the July backlog elimination drive (Here's a link to a "tense" discussion during the drive). Progress report: As of 18:26, 24 September 2021 (UTC), GOCE copyeditors have processed 468 requests since 1 January and there were 60 requests awaiting completion on the Requests page. The backlog of articles tagged for copy-editing stood at 433 (see monthly progress graph above). Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators Jonesey95, Dhtwiki, Tenryuu, and Miniapolis. To discontinue receiving GOCE newsletters, please remove your name from our mailing list.

RfA 2021 review update
Thanks so much for participating in Phase 1 of the RfA 2021 review. 8 out of the 21 issues discussed were found to have consensus. Thanks to our closers of Phase 1, Primefac and Wugapodes.
The following had consensus support of participating editors:
- Corrosive RfA atmosphere
- The atmosphere at RfA is deeply unpleasant. This makes it so fewer candidates wish to run and also means that some members of our community don't comment/vote.
- Level of scrutiny
- Many editors believe it would be unpleasant to have so much attention focused on them. This includes being indirectly a part of watchlists and editors going through your edit history with the chance that some event, possibly a relatively trivial event, becomes the focus of editor discussion for up to a week.
- Standards needed to pass keep rising
- It used to be far easier to pass RfA however the standards necessary to pass have continued to rise such that only "perfect" candidates will pass now.
- Too few candidates
- There are too few candidates. This not only limits the number of new admin we get but also makes it harder to identify other RfA issues because we have such a small sample size.
- "No need for the tools" is a poor reason as we can find work for new admins
The following issues had a rough consensus of support from editors:
- Lifetime tenure (high stakes atmosphere)
Because RfA carries with it lifetime tenure, granting any given editor sysop feels incredibly important. This creates a risk adverse and high stakes atmosphere. - Admin permissions and unbundling
There is a large gap between the permissions an editor can obtain and the admin toolset. This brings increased scrutiny for RFA candidates, as editors evaluate their feasibility in lots of areas. - RfA should not be the only road to adminship
Right now, RfA is the only way we can get new admins, but it doesn't have to be.
Please consider joining the brainstorming which will last for the next 1-2 weeks. This will be followed by Phase 2, a 30 day discussion to consider solutions to the problems identified in Phase 1.
There are 2 future mailings planned. One when Phase 2 opens and one with the results of Phase 2. To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

I edit conflicted with your close of core vocabulary. I had a long winded explanation of why I do not think a disambiguation/set index fits here (none of those things would be referred to as "core vocabulary") and argued instead for a retarget to Vocabulary#Word lists or Vocabulary#Vocabulary size, but I lost it hitting back and forward on my browser one too many times. Would you consider relisting this instead? -- Tavix (talk) 16:18, 10 November 2021 (UTC)

Regarding the flagged issue on the article "Civic engagement"
Hello BDD!
First of all, thank you for all your contributions to Wikipedia! I am currently working on the article, Civic engagement, and I noticed that you have flagged the article back in November 2015 for its tone issue. I definitely agree with you and am currently trying to improve on it. Would you mind clarifying which specific sections require more attention and if the flag is good to be removed? Thank you once again for your help!
Yzhang7 Yzhang7 (talk) 22:25, 17 November 2021 (UTC)
- Hi Yzhang7. Fortunately, the article looks a lot better than when I tagged it seven years ago. I'm trying to reconstruct what I was thinking, given how much time has passed, but looking at the title-case section headings of the 2015 version was a dead giveaway that it was more essay-like. In terms of what still needs attention, the "In the role of state government" section still leans heavily towards a US perspective, and has a tone more like an essay or white paper. "In marginalized communities" could use wikilinks, which could also help avoid things like opening with a dictionary definition. And "Technology" is using pseudo-subheadings that should probably either be true subheadings or have their content just integrated into normal prose.
- I hope that helps! I try to follow best practice and leave talk page messages when I tag unless the issue seems very obvious or endemic. That was the case in 2015, fortunately less so now. --BDD (talk) 15:21, 18 November 2021 (UTC)

Self-nominations are welcome. If you've thought of helping out at the Guild, or know of another editor who would make a good coordinator, please consider standing for election or nominating them here. December Blitz: We have scheduled a week-long copy-editing blitz for 12 to 18 December. Sign up now! Drive and Blitz reports

October Blitz: From 17 to 23 October, we copy edited articles tagged in May and June 2021 and requests. 8 participating editors completed 26 copy edits on the blitz. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. November Drive: Over 350,000 words of articles were copy edited for this event. Of the 21 people who signed up, 14 copyedited at least one article. Final results and awards are listed here. Other news
It is with great sadness that we report the death on 19 November of Twofingered Typist, who was active with the Guild almost daily for the past several years. His contributions long exceeded the thresholds for the Guild's highest awards, and he had a hand in innumerable good and featured article promotions as a willing collaborator. Twofingered Typist also served as a Guild coordinator from July 2019 to June 2021. He is sorely missed by the Wikipedia community. Progress report: As of 30 November, GOCE copyeditors have completed 619 requests in 2021 and there were 51 requests awaiting completion on the Requests page. The backlog stood at 946 articles tagged for copy-editing (see monthly progress graph above). Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Administrators will no longer be autopatrolled
A recently closed Request for Comment (RFC) reached consensus to remove Autopatrolled from the administrator user group. You may, similarly as with Edit Filter Manager, choose to self-assign this permission to yourself. This will be implemented the week of December 13th, but if you wish to self-assign you may do so now. To find out when the change has gone live or if you have any questions please visit the Administrator's Noticeboard. 20:05, 7 December 2021 (UTC)

RFA 2021 Completed
The 2021 re-examination of RFA has been completed. 23 (plus 2 variants) ideas were proposed. Over 200 editors participated in this final phase. Three changes gained consensus and two proposals were identified by the closers as having the potential to gain consensus with some further discussion and iteration. Thanks to all who helped to close the discussion, and in particular Primefac, Lee Vilenski, and Ymblanter for closing the most difficult conversations and for TonyBallioni for closing the review of one of the closes.
The following proposals gained consensus and have all been implemented:
- Revision of standard question 1 to
Why are you interested in becoming an administrator?
Special thanks to xaosflux for help with implementation. - A new process, Administrative Action Review (XRV) designed to review if an editor's specific use of an advanced permission, including the admin tools, is consistent with policy in a process similar to that of deletion review and move review. Thanks to all the editors who contributed (and are continuing to contribute) to the discussion of how to implement this proposal.
- Removal of autopatrol from the administrator's toolkit. Special thanks to Wugapodes and Seddon for their help with implementation.
The following proposals were identified by the closers as having the potential to gain consensus with some further discussion and iteration:
- An option for people to run for temporary adminship (proposal, discussion, & close)
- An optional election process (proposal & discussion and close review & re-close)
Editors who wish to discuss these ideas or other ideas on how to try to address any of the six issues identified during phase 1 for which no proposal gained are encouraged to do so at RFA's talk page or an appropriate village pump.
A final and huge thanks all those who participated in this effort to improve our RFA process over the last 4 months.
This is the final update with no further talk page messages planned.

How we will see unregistered users
Hi!
You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.
When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.
Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.
If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.
We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.
Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

Thanks for uploading File:ShopHouse logo.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. Lil Jon/Shawty Putt / Shawty Redd
Hi not sure if this is the proper place so please let me know. I saw the closed talk on not creating a separate page for the artist known as "Shawty Putt" who is an artist who has worked with Lil Jon and the confusion with the artist/producer "Shawty Redd" who had worked with Lil Jon but is better known for his production on other artists. In Atlanta, "Shawty" is a moniker just like "Lil" or "Young" so it's a lot of them. Just wanted to suggest that when using one not widely known and to avoid confusion, adding their legal names may be of help. As in "William "Shawty Putt" Holmes (looked up his songwriting credits on ASCAP). Shawty Redd has a page so no one should be confused as to if they are the same person. I've been in ATL a while. Lil is because there is a taller person with the same name lol Asr1014 (talk) 06:04, 13 January 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Asr1014, did you mean this discussion? I wasn't saying that there shouldn't be a separate page for Shawty Putt, necessarily. The name was just redirecting to Lil Jon with no explanation of who or what Shawty Putt was. As long as you think Shawty Putt meets our notability standards, go for it. --BDD (talk) 18:54, 13 January 2022 (UTC)
- Hi! Oh wow! I definately misunderstood. His name should not redirect to Lil Jon in my opinion. I know the Atlanta music scene pretty well. Shawty Putt's career thus far doesn't meet the notability standards nor is he solely associated with Lil Jon. BME Recordings the label Lil Jon helped to create was removed and redirected to Lil Jon as well. I think several of the less notable artists that were listed under the label were redirected as well. I've seen questions about creating pages for them but such as in this case, they don't meet the standard either. Thank you so much for your quick response. I'm still learning and it's encouraging to know its people like you willing to give advice. Asr1014 (talk) 20:14, 13 January 2022 (UTC)

Discretionary sanctions topic area changes
In a process that began last year with WP:DS2021, the Arbitration Committee is evaluating Discretionary Sanctions (DS) in order to improve it. A larger package of reforms is slated for sometime this year. From the work done so far, it became clear a number of areas may no longer need DS or that some DS areas may be overly broad.
The topics proposed for revocation are:
- Senkaku islands
- Waldorf education
- Ancient Egyptian race controversy
- Scientology
- Landmark worldwide
The topics proposed for a rewording of what is covered under DS are:
- India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan
- Armenia/Azerbaijan
Additionally any Article probation topics not already revoked are proposed for revocation.
Community feedback is invited and welcome at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Motions. --Barkeep49 (talk) 16:59, 27 January 2022 (UTC)

New page on queerplatonic relationships
Hey :)
I have just put together a short article about queerplatonic relationships. You said in May that after trying to add content about QPRs to the broader article on platonic love, you felt the concept failed WP:NEO. I am letting you know that I've tried to write a new page (operating on the presumption that QPRs satisfy WP:GNG)—I think there's enough sources and content there to demonstrate my basic case.
Best regards, —Kilopylae (talk) 00:43, 26 February 2022 (UTC)
- My compliments Kilopylae, you've done a great job, and clearly put much more effort into sourcing than I did. :) My only suggestion is to perhaps rewrite the first sentence to center the concept rather than the term (see WP:REFERS). It's appropriate to acknowledge the name as a neologism, but ultimately the article is about the type of relationship rather than the phrase itself—and all that's as it should be. Once again, good job! --BDD (talk) 23:15, 26 February 2022 (UTC)

As the closer of the previous AfD discussion, would you say that Courtney Chase is similar enough to the article you deleted to qualify for CSD G4? If not, I'll take it to AfD again. —Compassionate727 (T·C) 17:35, 3 July 2022 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Jews in Space (disambiguation)
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Jews in Space (disambiguation) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G14 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a disambiguation page which either
- disambiguates only one extant Wikipedia page and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic);
- disambiguates zero extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title; or
- is an orphaned redirect with a title ending in "(disambiguation)" that does not target a disambiguation page or page that has a disambiguation-like function.
Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Reviving an old (deleted) page
I've been reworking on the page related to sportscaster Bill Spaulding who recently joined the New Jersey Devils as a play-by-play (which fun fact, is my favorite Hockey Team!) and after doing some work, I think I finally been doing it much better than it was. There has been more stuff added, additional sources now citied, and I think I got some new info. My draft on him has not been submitted but I'm not sure if it's acceptable for publishing since it currently needs some work. Sadly, I can't access some of the articles without a subscription. If there's anything or if it looks good for publishing, please let me know. 20chances (talk) 18:32, 31 August 2022 (UTC)
- Hi User:20chances. Technically I deleted Bill Spaulding (sportscaster) before, but he's never actually had an article. The title just used to redirect to WJPZ-FM, which doesn't mention him. Even when that was nominated, the nominator said he might be notable, and your article looks fine at a glance. I think you can be bold and move it into mainspace. --BDD (talk) 19:38, 31 August 2022 (UTC)
- Yeah, I was thinking it looks good enough. I never knew it was a redirect and in fact technically not a full scale article. But yeah, I do hope it'll be great to see it out. I appreciate the advice BTW ^^ 20chances (talk) 19:50, 31 August 2022 (UTC)

Cloudy day
You said here that you couldn't see how TNT's resignation was not under a cloud: it's generally agreed that my resignation after the Doncram case was not under a cloud, although bit removal had been very much on the table, and that if I had asked for the bit back instead of running RFA3, which failed, I probably would have gotten it back. --SarekOfVulcan (talk) 20:58, 1 November 2022 (UTC)
