RTE programming template

Hi, well done on adding all the RTE programs to this template. Two things, firstly, my favourite show from years ago Nighthawks (presented by Shay Healy) isn't on it, it was quite innovative for its day! Secondly, I think the template it getting very large, any thoughts? Snappy (talk) 09:42, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Flash Floods 2008

We at JBA consulting are seriously impressed with the time and effort put into recording this summers flood events; Thank you. Out of interest, what prompted you to cover this topic?

We were involved in some of the post flood technical analysis and will stick some links in to the published technical reports.

There is also a good historic record of Irish flooding at http://www.floodmaps.ie/ ; as a new user to wikipedia would this be a useful addition in your opinion, or off the topic of your article?

Best regards

Did You Know question

Hello! Your submission of Fallout of the Irish government budget, 2008 at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and there still are some issues that may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! Art LaPella (talk) 04:52, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the tip. Done. Hopefully Art will stop fooling around and approve my hook sometime soon... :) ChildofMidnight (talk) 06:14, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
I can't guess what the context of that statement is, but my user page makes it clear I have never approved anyone's hook. Art LaPella (talk) 06:47, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
Uh... yes, that appears to be correct. I don't think I ever mentioned anyone. I just told the previous user to move their DYK to the correct date as it was about five days late. They were worried it mightn't be approved but it never would have been if they didn't move it quickly. -- 18:05, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Dundalk Photographic Society

A tag has been placed on Dundalk Photographic Society requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a club, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guidelines for people and for organizations.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the article or have a copy emailed to you. ww2censor (talk) 01:39, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

The enormous DYK hook

Hiya. Saw your note left earlier on the DYK suggestions page ... John Ryan et al was eventually split up into two hooks. The first is in Queue 2; second part was moved to Next Update a little while ago. The ALT version I put up yesterday came in for some, er, "comment" at the talk page (!), and it was eventually decided to make two easy-to-read hooks instead of one very long, snaking sentence. A shame, but fair enough I suppose! Keep up the good work, Hassocks5489 (tickets please!) 12:43, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

Well, the one in Queue 4 will equal the current record, so there's some good news :) On the Fallout of the Budget hook, I would normally verify this but I went in and added an extra reference to support part of the hook, so I had better leave it to somebody else to pick up. I read it in some depth and there shouldn't be any barriers to promotion. Hassocks5489 (tickets please!) 13:29, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
Multi-hook stats are kept on the hard-to-find Hall of Fame page (I don't know why this isn't linked from the main DYK page!). An 11-article hook was recently produced and will be appearing soon: in fact I verified it and moved it to the Next Update earlier today. So that will become the new record. Hassocks5489 (tickets please!) 17:54, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
I think so (re. "number of article on the Main Page at the same time"), although it will be beaten when the 11-article one goes up :S ... Somebody else will probably add everything to the DYK Hall of Fame page in the next day or two, but if they don't you can probably just do so yourself, as long as you provide the appropriate permalink, which is this. You'll have two entries in the "DYK hooks with 5 or more DYK articles" as well – the 9 and the 5. This is the permalink for the fiver. I'll keep an eye on it. New DYK template for nominations

Hi,

I've been working, somewhat at Gatoclass's behest, to develop a new version of {{DYKsug}} that doesn't leave so much junk on the nominations page (partly just to be tidier, partly to reduce the page's byte count and, hopefully, its load time). The new template is complete and located at {{NewDYKnomination}} ({{NewDYKnom}} also works). It is used in almost the exact same way as the current template (the only difference being that |creator= and |expander= have been merged into a single |writer= parameter, since there seems to have been confusion in the past about the difference between these two); there is more discussion of the new template at Wikipedia talk:Did you know/Archive 39#New template for nominations--please provide feedback if you have a moment and Wikipedia talk:Did you know/Archive 39#Working on a better nomination template.

Since you do a lot of work vetting nominations, you are one of the people who will be most affected by the template change (although the effect shouldn't be very big...the main difference is just that this template is less complicated and the format will look a bit different), so I am hoping to hear your thoughts before I go ahead with making the switch from the current system to this one. The links I provided above have permalinks to examples of what the template will look like when used; you are also free to experiment with it in a sandbox.

Thank you, Politizer talk/contribs 15:54, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

Oops, sorry...the old examples are bad, since I have made a change since then. Here is a new, better example (and here is what it looks like in the edit window). Politizer talk/contribs 16:03, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

Lisa Hannigan

You are welcome. I am not sure about the amount of work that the Lisa Hannigan article would need to become a Featured Article, but my initial reaction is "a lot." Unfortunately, I am not the best person to know having never brought an article to this status. She is really in the beginning of her (solo) career and the coverage of her seems limited which may hamper any efforts. Taking a look at the articles at: Wikipedia:Featured articles#Music I can see how this article could become an equivalent to Alison Krauss (for instance). If you are thinking of bringing it to FAC, I would recommend going to Wikipedia:Peer review first. All the best! - Mitico (talk, contribs) 18:16, 22 February 2009 (UTC)

Pfizer settlement

I was wondering if you would be interested in this news? We already have Kano Trovafloxacin trial litigation and all you have to do is updating it (and a bit of copyediting). Sorry I am rushing to bed now... --BorgQueen (talk) 17:57, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

Since it is the biggest in Irish history, yes, I think is bad enough for ITN. As for the doomsday vault, I don't really have an opinion yet. --BorgQueen (talk) 04:41, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
