Erroneous upscale

Hello!

File:Kristianstads DFF logo.svg was erroneously upscaled. Jonteemil (talk) 19:01, 29 July 2022 (UTC)

I think I'm missing something, what's the issue? DatGuyTalkContribs 19:43, 29 July 2022 (UTC)
I requested the original version be undeleted so you can see the difference. Now also File:Llangennech Logo.svg was incorrectly upscaled. This time it's pretty clear.Jonteemil (talk) 18:14, 31 July 2022 (UTC)
I think it might be elements of the vector that exist in the code but are hidden and then the tool unhides them. If this is rare then I think it's fine to occasionally happen and then manually take care of it, but if it's frequent then I'll try messing with some settings. Let me know. DatGuyTalkContribs 12:00, 1 August 2022 (UTC)
Now the origibal version of the Kristianstad DFF logo was undeleted if you want to see.Jonteemil (talk) 23:34, 4 August 2022 (UTC)

Resizing a photo

Hello!

I've just uploaded a picture (File:Hachikô Monogatari Poster.jpg) to replace the current DVD cover photo on Hachikō Monogatari page's infobox. It is a 1987 theatrical releases poster. But in order to use the picture, I think it must be resized. I found out that the bot of yours are used for resizing photo. May I ask the resize of the image? -Jinbo4514 (talk) Jinbo4514 (talk) 06:27, 6 August 2022 (UTC)

A few bots search through images and work in combination to resize the image if it's too big. You shouldn't need to manually do anything. DatGuyTalkContribs 13:03, 6 August 2022 (UTC)

New Jack Swing

Nu Trap Swing is part of New Jack Swing just in a different form, like R&B is to Trap Soul. Bruno Mars bringed the New Jack Swing back with the song Finesse with Cardi B. Thank you Freshboy2216 (talk) 11:45, 8 August 2022 (UTC)

Do you have a reliable source that backs that up? DatGuyTalkContribs 13:26, 8 August 2022 (UTC)

A beer for you!

Congrats, and the advice

Congratulations on your successful RFA!
Carrying on a tradition, allow me to impart the words of wisdom I received from Katie after my RFA passed almost seven long, exhausting, and questionable years ago:
  1. Remember you will always protect the wrong version. (I got nothing here. It's inevitable.)
  2. Remember you must always follow the rules, except for when you ignore them. Without exception, you will pick the wrong one to do. (See #5.)
  3. Remember to assume good faith and not bite. Remember that when you are applying these principles most diligently, you are probably dealing with a troll. (You'll attract many more of those now, because mop. They must like to drink the dirty water in the bucket.)
  4. Use the block ability sparingly. Enjoy the insults you receive when you do block, because really, what else is there to live for?
  5. Remember that when you make these errors, someone will be more than happy to point them out to you in dazzling clarity and descriptive terminology. It will not be a personal attack because we are admins and, therefore, we are all rouge anyway.
  6. Finally, remember to contact me if you ever need assistance, and I will do what I am able.

On the RfA

Thank you to everyone who supported on the kind words, and those who opposed on the criticism, although I may personally disagree with a few. I would also thank everyone who's helped me with Wikipedia stuff and taught me the ropes, but there's too many to count. You know who you are.

Anyways, I suppose I'm off to delete the main page. Or is it, not delete the main page? I'll have to sharpen up on that.[FBDB] DatGuyTalkContribs 17:17, 15 August 2022 (UTC)

Once upon a time, deleting the main page was a rite of passage, at least according to some accounts. I don't know, I wasn't around in the dark times. TheSandDoctor Talk 17:35, 15 August 2022 (UTC)

A baton for you!

A baton for you!
After my RfA was closed, Tamzin started a trend on my talk page of "passing the baton" to the newest admin. She's since nudged me to continue the tradition and I'm pleased to do so now, less than a week after mine All in all, congratulations – I was happy to support your candidacy and I know you'll make an excellent administrator. May the baton-passing continue! DanCherek (talk) 18:25, 15 August 2022 (UTC)
  • Maybe when the next successful RfA occurs (which may be sometime soon, but  Kinehore)), you can pass it along.

I will take this as definitive, empirical proof that warding off the evil eye works. Off I go to update all relevant articles! /j -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she|they|xe) 18:29, 15 August 2022 (UTC)
This is a great idea. Seems I won't be holding onto it more than a short 100 metres ( Kinehore), but I'll definitely continue this newly-created tradition. DatGuyTalkContribs 18:52, 15 August 2022 (UTC)

Great work. Congrats on the bit. I think additional praise should be made for a self-nom. I do hope you can continue to promote others to also self-nom, or find candidates to run. If you need any help in any way, drop me a line. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 11:21, 16 August 2022 (UTC)

AIV

Congrats on the your shiny new set of buttons! Regarding bot reports, in your decline of this bot report (your bot, ironically) the filter it was triggering included SPI disruption and the account was indeed a sock. The bot reports often require a bit more digging than the user-reported ones as they're triggered by more than simple vandalism and overt spam/disruption. The bot reports can often sit a little longer until an admin who has the time and inclination reviews them. Just a bit of info you can tuck away if you find it useful.-- Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 21:07, 15 August 2022 (UTC)

@Ponyo: Thank you. Wanted to talk to you about that, I remember checking the filter log and seeing the SPI disruption hit but not the Oshwah LTA filter hit, no clue why, and only noticed it after you blocked them and I rechecked the log. I'll definitely defer on those for now. DatGuyTalkContribs 21:17, 15 August 2022 (UTC)
I imagine that there are a few CUs/SPI Clerks who review Filter 809, so they would have been blocked eventually regardless of the AIV report. Just don't want you feeling like you have to take it all on yourself!-- Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 21:33, 15 August 2022 (UTC)

Re 2a00:801::/37

Hi DatGuy. Congrats on the bit. As of the time of the block, that was the option. Consider it a 'surfacing block'. The alternative is a full /37 anon block unless you can find something better based on visible edits (and the block log). As it's a CU block, I should mention that admins should feel free to adjust it appropriately, but that ACB needs to remain. -- zzuuzz (talk) 08:44, 20 August 2022 (UTC)

/37 rangeblock isn't very appealing unfortunately. That may change if they continue at a high frequency though, I'll keep an eye on it. I'll make sure not to remove the ACB, wouldn't want to set a new world record for fastest desysopping . DatGuyTalkContribs 08:54, 20 August 2022 (UTC)
The longer the ACB remains, the more appealing it will probably look. At least that's a plan. They're a bit of a sporadic vandal, as you can see from the contribs and block log, but will probably end up warranting some kind of full anonblock. -- zzuuzz (talk) 09:04, 20 August 2022 (UTC)

Congratulations

Hello, DatGuy, I am Blanchey and I just noticed that you became an admin, I don’t believe we have ever. communicated on here although I’d just like to wish you the very best of luck in your new role, I’m sure you will do great! ;-) Blanchey (talk) 21:33, 15 August 2022 (UTC)

I add my congratulations. Due to real life, I have been online sporadically recently and missed a few recent RfAs, including yours. In any event, best wishes and glad you are willing to help Wikipedia's depleted administrator group. Donner60 (talk) 14:38, 16 August 2022 (UTC)

September songs
No problem! The rose pic was taken on 11 Sep 2021, and this year was full of music that day, Tag des offenen Denkmals, not only singing in church and rehearsals for Verdi's Requiem, but two concerts at special places pictured, one a synagogue (pictured on its wall). Today three DYK: a piece we'll perform on Sunday, a violinist we heard in June playing the Berg Concerto (my brother played in the orchestra), and a Youth Orchestra shaped by a conductor who recently died. Almost too much of a good thing. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:51, 14 September 2022 (UTC)

Brahmāstra: Part One-Shiva

Hi DatGuy You have increased the protection of Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva article. Due to which no one can edit this article. Please lower the protection level of this article so that confirmed users can edit it. Thank you AK965 (talk) 09:08, 10 September 2022 (UTC)

There's been ongoing content disputes by users with varying access level about the reception section. The point of the full page protection is so you can reach a consensus about what's the proper WP:DUE weight for the reviews on the talk page. I see you also made a request on WP:RFPP, but for your information, if the protection naturally expires and the edit warring returns, the article will simply be fully protected again for a longer duration. DatGuyTalkContribs 09:13, 10 September 2022 (UTC)

No one can edit the protection given by you
