Information icon Hi Medarduss! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor at Rufus Halley that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia – it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. Thank you. Hi, I created an article because I saw a redlink at Deutsches Romantik-Museum, then I saw it was on your to do list. It obviously leaves room for improvement. TSventon (talk) 08:23, 18 July 2022 (UTC)

Hi again, the Hochstift article is due to be on the mainpage tomorrow in the WP:DYK section, shall I ask for a week's delay as you are hoping to do some further work on it? TSventon (talk) 10:23, 5 August 2022 (UTC)
Hello! Sorry, I didn't know you had nominated it for a DYK. I am in the process of writing a longer history section of the FDH, if you can read German it will be a similar length to this (unfinished) page here. If you would rather, you can do the DYK now and I can leave the article as it is for a week or so then change things, or you could delay the DYK and I edit it this week? Both are okay to me so let me know.
I see on the DYK nomination that you were looking for better pictures, I live near the house so let me know if you want me to try get photos from a different angle etc. I will hopefully upload some archive pictures of the house sometime soon. Medarduss (talk) 10:40, 5 August 2022 (UTC)
Thank you! Go ahead expanding, just see that everything is referenced. Delaying DYK causes people work, and I'd prefer not to do that. It's scheduled for tomorrow, beginning at midnight UTC. I'd like a pic showing the Goethe house and (at least part of) the new building of the Romantik-Museum. I tried but found it not good enough, showing too little of both. Whatever you manage between now and beginning of 7 August will serve readers! But nothing is needed, if you don't have the time, - other readers will profit later. DYK will get just 1000 extra looks, my estimate. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:20, 5 August 2022 (UTC)
Okay, well let's not delay the DYK then. I will try to take a photo with the new building included but if you have already tried I doubt I can do much better :) Medarduss (talk) 11:34, 5 August 2022 (UTC)
Medarduss and Gerda Arendt, I would prefer the mainpage audience to see an improved article if possible, so I will ask at DYK talk. In the meantime there is no need to stop editing. I have read your German draft, my comments based on online research are
 • I think the English version will need more inline citations
 • According to the dnb listing the current name is Freies Deutsches Hochstift, not Freies Deutsches Hochstift - Frankfurter Goethe-Museum
 • Why was Otto Volger expelled in 1881?
 • Should Karl-Nikolaus Berg be mentioned, apparently he was director from 1881 to 1887?
 • Should Franz von Hoven be mentioned as architect of the 1897 extension?
 • My hook mentions that restoration of the Goethe House was completed in 1926, so I want to keep that in the article
 • According to the dnb listing, the 2009 change of name was reversed
 • It would be ideal to have a photo of the Goethe House and the Deutsches Romantik-Museum together as on the Hochstift website, I don't know whether that is possible from street level. Perhaps the Hochstift could release one. If the article was longer there would be space for separate pictures of the GH and DRM. TSventon (talk) 11:57, 5 August 2022 (UTC)
There are probably many things wrong with that draft; it is not finished, and I just sent it to give an idea of how long I hope the final FDH article to be. I don't think I will be able to update the English article to address all of these comments before the DYK begins, I will just try to get a better image by then. If anything in my draft seems good to include feel free to include it as you wish. Medarduss (talk) 12:18, 5 August 2022 (UTC)
Good plans. Even if the article is not longer, pics could be shown in a gallery as in the Romantik-Museum. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:29, 5 August 2022 (UTC)
I have been granted permission from the Freies Deutsches Hochstift to upload a photo of the Deutsches Romantik-Museum which should be good for the page, it shows both the Goethe-haus and Deutsches Romantik-Museum by night.
the photo Medarduss (talk) 13:48, 5 August 2022 (UTC)
that's spectacular! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:06, 5 August 2022 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt, I agree! presumably the image go on to the article now? TSventon (talk) 14:12, 5 August 2022 (UTC)
Medarduss, thanks to you and to the Hochstift for the image. I will leave the DYK date. My suggestions are just a list of things I found when writing my version of the article. I do understand that your draft is not intended to be a finished article and that your time is limited. TSventon (talk) 14:27, 5 August 2022 (UTC)
Yeah, that makes sense. It's still good you told me so I can use them if/when I do more work on the article. Sorry if my earlier response came off somewhat rude. Medarduss (talk) 18:53, 5 August 2022 (UTC)

I didn't find your response rude, you thought I was criticising your work and I was happy to explain that I wasn't. By the way I have found a couple of interesting sources

Nice, these seem good. I'll see if I can get a copy of that book. Can we use the Frankfurter Personenlexicon as a cited source? Medarduss (talk) 09:19, 8 August 2022 (UTC)
Frankfurter Personenlexikon looks like a reliable source, except it cites the de Wikipedia article on Volger from 11.06.2015 as a source, so it shouldn't be used to support information that may have come from Wikipedia in the first place. TSventon (talk) 09:40, 8 August 2022 (UTC)

I see you have created a category for Founding members of the Freies Deutsches Hochstift. Could you add a sentence to the articles to say X was one of the 56 founding members of the Freies Deutsches Hochstift educational association in Frankfurt in 1859, plus a reference? TSventon (talk) 07:18, 10 August 2022 (UTC)

yeah sure I'll do that now. Medarduss (talk) 07:51, 10 August 2022 (UTC)
done. Medarduss (talk) 08:06, 10 August 2022 (UTC)

Hi, were you able to email the permission for the photo? Commons still says that you will send an email as confirmation next week. TSventon (talk) 07:28, 11 August 2022 (UTC)

Hi, I have requested that the email be sent but haven't had a chance to check if it did actually get sent yet. Sorry.Medarduss (talk) 08:04, 11 August 2022 (UTC)
Hi, any news on the photo? Also, I notice that you use Harvard referencing, would you be interested in a script to highlight errors, I use User:Svick/HarvErrors.js, which is listed at Category:Harv and Sfn template errors. TSventon (talk) 13:25, 23 August 2022 (UTC)
The script looks good, I will start using it. As for the photo, no sorry I have no news. Maybe it would be better to delete the photo and I can reupload when I have the permission sorted. Medarduss (talk) 08:29, 24 August 2022 (UTC)
Hi, the Who's who link is https://www.google.co.uk/books/edition/Deutsche_Who_s_who/SUkiAQAAIAAJ, I found it by searching for Christoph PERELS Rehfelde. TSventon (talk) 09:32, 26 August 2022 (UTC)
thanks Medarduss (talk) 11:05, 26 August 2022 (UTC)
@TSventon Sorry if this is stupid, but I cant seem to access anything more than a snippet showing Perels name. Is it possible to see the whole entry for Perels in the Who's who on google books? Medarduss (talk) 11:19, 26 August 2022 (UTC)
I can't see the whole page, but the most useful section is here. TSventon (talk) 11:28, 26 August 2022 (UTC)
Thanks, I added the info from that. Medarduss (talk) 11:57, 26 August 2022 (UTC)
@TSventon, regarding the DRM / Goethehaus image, an email has now been sent to the VRT so hopefully the permissions are sorted soon. Thought you might be interested. Medarduss (talk) 15:07, 2 September 2022 (UTC)
Thank you for the update, are you hoping to add the image to the Hochstift article when the permission is sorted? By the way I have enjoyed seeing you create and develop the articles. TSventon (talk) 07:31, 3 September 2022 (UTC)
Yeah, I think I will add the photo to the Hochstift article. Maybe it could also go on the Romantik-Museum one. I have enjoyed working on them too! Thanks for your edits and other help. Medarduss (talk) 20:26, 3 September 2022 (UTC)

Oxford meetup 83

Hi, why did you create m:Meetup/Oxford/83? I would have created it myself (as coordinator) if there was sufficient interest from the former regulars of Oxford - but so far, there hasn't been. Also, the next Oxford meetup (if it occurs) will be no. 82. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 07:46, 24 September 2022 (UTC)

Hi, I created the page because I saw that there was no meeting scheduled and wanted to see if anyone was interested. Sorry if that wasn't the right way to go about things but it seems reasonable to me. If no one is interested I can always delete it. I made it 83 because the last (cancelled) one was 82. Medarduss (talk) 09:19, 24 September 2022 (UTC)
Oxford 82 would have been April 2020, but almost immediately after the March 2020 meetup (Oxford 81), Covid happened and with it came a general ban on meetups, so I never created the page, and nobody was ever invited. When face-to-face meetups were finally permitted again, more than a year later, we found that many of the former regulars would not be likely to attend - they had either left the country. left Wikipedia, were uncomfortable with face-to-face meetups, or were no longer contactable. Basically, if we were to hold an Oxford meetup now, it would probably be just me and Thryduulf (talk · contribs), who lives in London, and so it's easier for both of us to go to the London meetups. A few months ago we decided not to resume Oxford meetups unless I could get at least four cartain attendees. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 21:51, 24 September 2022 (UTC)
@Redrose64 I was chatting with @Mvolz at the WMUK event the other day and she was keen to meetup if one is hosted. She even mentioned @RexxS might be join us. Thryduulf (talk) 22:12, 24 September 2022 (UTC)
OK, that's probably sufficient. I should be able to get 16 October off work, we don't have Sunday deliveries any more. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 10:41, 25 September 2022 (UTC)

Women in Red 8th Anniversary

Women in Red 8th Anniversary
In July 2015 around 15.5% of the English Wikipedia's biographies were about women. As of July 2023, 19.61% of the English Wikipedia's biographies are about women. That's a lot of biographies created in the effort to close the gender gap. Happy 8th Anniversary! Join us for some virtual cake and add comments or memories and please keep on editing to close the gap!

Category suppression needed at User:Medarduss/FDHmembers

Hi. Just a friendly reminder about user page categorization.

I've noticed your user page (linked above) is appearing in regular content categories. See for example Category:Short story writer navigational boxes under H. This is discouraged. See WP:DRAFTNOCAT and WP:USERNOCAT for additional information.

Usually the situation is remedied by placing a leading colon at the beginning of each category declaration like for example:

:Category:German writer navigational boxes

or, by bracketing all category declarations with Template:Draft categories like so:

Either method will disable the category functions. Thank you. Cheers! --DB1729talk 00:48, 7 November 2023 (UTC)

ArbCom 2023 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add NoACEMM to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:53, 28 November 2023 (UTC)

Place of death

Merarduss, your explanation

Undid revision 1189880074 by Wegesrand (talk) I can't find the relevant place in the MOS, but we generally do put the name of the country at the time of the subject's death; a clear example would be Adolf Hitler, where Nazi Germany is given as the place of death

makes little sense. "Nazi Germany" was never the name of a country. "Clear example" it is not. But I get the idea; you're going to have it how you like it, never mind explaining. Wegesrand (talk) 17:59, 21 December 2023 (UTC)

What was the purpose of this comment? I clearly did not create the rule myself, so there is no reason to complain to me. Try to be a bit more polite in your interactions on this site. Medarduss (talk) 09:39, 22 December 2023 (UTC)
