Ok. Don’t worry. I’ll check my email later - I don’t have it on my phone right now. Nick Moyes (talk) 09:17, 1 February 2022 (UTC)
@Itcouldbepossible I've seen your message - there's nothing to be concerned about. I would prefer to reply to you here, mentioning no specifics, or do a TPS reply elsewhere. Is either OK? Nick Moyes (talk) 11:10, 1 February 2022 (UTC)
Well, what is TPS? ItcouldbepossibleTalk 11:11, 1 February 2022 (UTC)

No - just logged out of it. But please use the email tool here to reach out in an emergency should that need ever arise again. Nick Moyes (talk) 09:15, 4 February 2022 (UTC)

Possible paper found of "unidentified ancient jellyfish"

I have possibly found the paper you were referring to when using Google scholar (a suggestion that a person made as a reply on the question). I've also possibly Identified the actual name of the ancient cnidarian , the name being Octomedusa pieckorum As stated in https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0001121 And the paper itself, the paper being https://ia800200.us.archive.org/31/items/pennsylvanianinv127john/pennsylvanianinv127john.pdf. The paper itself includes 3 pages about the before mentioned Octomedusa pieckorum. Please let me know if this paper is the actual paper you were mentioning. With lots and lots and lots of thanks from Rugoconites Tenuirugosus (talk) 20:48, 12 February 2022 (UTC)User:Rugoconites_Tenuirugosus

Yay! You found it. Yes, the PLOS article online was indeed what I was referring to. It really wasn't that hard to find - it took me about two minutes and suggests you still have a lot of experience to gain on searching for good sources. We all have to learn somehow, but the skill is in knowing your limitations and not proceeding with inadequate information, or wrong understanding of quite esoteric subject areas.
But, no, my skim read of that article is that the fossil cnidarian being illustrated by Lieberman in his paper was only superficially like Octomedusa - not that it was that taxon. So please don't start drawing conclusions from it. Steer clear and avoid causing confusion even if you think you're helping. The paper describing Octomedusa as a nov.sp. could be useful for creating an article, but I would also want to look for more modern research papers and be confident of my taxonomy before diving in.
I might suggest that in future you Draft your articles and either submit them to WP:AFC or ping me and let me look through them for you. Nick Moyes (talk) 22:21, 12 February 2022 (UTC)

I do understand that the Octomedusa fossil and the "unidentified jellyfish" illustrated by Lieberman aren't the same (considering how different their fossils look and look nothing alike). But, does that mean that the Unidentified jellyfish isn't actually octomedusa? because if it is, it means that I must go searching again for an hour on google to identify the jellyfish. I do also understand it isn't the same taxa for the same reasons , but , I got the name Octomedusa from one of the articles from the Teahouse which showed other unidentified cambrian jellyfish.Rugoconites Tenuirugosus (talk) 20:48, 12 February 2022 (UTC)User:Rugoconites_Tenuirugosus

@Rugoconites Tenuirugosus No, it's not your job to try to identify fossils. That would be Original Research and strictly not permitted. And if the palaeontologists haven't done it with confidence, then you certainly cannot! I genuinely suggest you find something less technically challenging to investigate that matches your language skills and your understanding of scientific nomenclature and taxonomy. You speak of hours: I don't know how many hours of my own time I've had to spend on trying to sort out your edits and errors recently. If it means you slow down and exhibit some greater competence and critical skills, then that will have been my time really well spent. But I worry your over-eagerness is helping no-one.
Finally, may I remind you again to read and understand WP:INDENT, because I'd really like you to start your replies with one extra colon each time (that's a : character) so that the page indents correctly by one further amount each time. It's less important here, but a nightmare if you're participating in a place like the Teahouse with multiple editors responding to different elements of a discussion. Many thanks Nick Moyes (talk) 10:37, 13 February 2022 (UTC)
By identify I was referring to finding the name of the species not trying to come up with a new name , new genus and things like that because I'm basically non-existent in those categories. Rugoconites Tenuirugosus (talk) 11:14, 24 April 2022 (UTC)

Just Stop

I Need To Say This , As You've Said On The talk page for Rugoconites , You said " I no longer have much confidence in your abilities to understand and differentiate published expert opinion by scientists from your own amateur sleuthing and guesswork" at 01:18 , 21 February 2022 , And Yet For Gods Sake You keep On Editing My Articles. If You Seriously Do Not At All have Any More Confidence Left In you About Me Finally Learning Something , you Should Not Try To Edit My Articles Anymore and Just Leave Them To me Or Just Topic Ban Me from Making Any Articles About Animals.Rugoconites Tenuirugosus (talk) 19:48, 1 April 2022 (UTC)User:Rugoconites_Tenuirugosus

@Rugoconites Tenuirugosus Your post to my talk page has crossed with another I am currently in the middle of drafting on your own talk page about yet more incompetence on your part (re Bilinichnus). Let me post that first, then I may well take you to WP:ANI to get you topic banned per WP:CIR. Having tried to encourage, guide and support you, despite despairing of your lack of understanding in what you're doing, it would honestly not be fair of me to topic ban you myself as I am too WP:INVOLVED.
But I do not believe we can allow you to keep on creating or uploading more erroneous content here and on Wikimedia Commons. I have tried to encourage you to play around elsewhere and to create your own website so that you learn some of the skills that a scientist needs, but I do not feel you have yet developed the knowledge or understanding to do so on Wikipedia with such highly obscure and technical subject as trace fossils.
As I have said to before, despite being a natural sciences museum curator with over 30 years professional experience, I am fearful myself of wading into such technical and obscure areas a ancient trace fossils. And, yes, I do have to keep on editing the rubbish articles you create because (for God's sake) whilst they sometimes do have a grain of scientific accuracy to them (per WP:SPECIESOUTCOMES, I continually need to remove your own WP:OR and other gross errors, or even complete failure to read and comprehend what sources say. I really would love to stop having to check and edit them, but someone needs to look and fix them so as to avoid the embarrassment of misinformation being posted by a well-meaning but sadly barely-competent editor. And your repeated uploading of copyrighted (and misidentified) images is liable to get you blocked from Wikimedia Commons, too, if you want my opinion. Nick Moyes (talk) 20:21, 1 April 2022 (UTC)
" I really would love to stop having to check and edit them, but someone needs to look and fix them so as to avoid the embarrassment of misinformation being posted by a well-meaning but sadly barely-competent editor." Well why don't you just not edit them and wait for someone else to check them instead of thinking that I'm basically the only person on Wikipedia which makes articles like this? Question from Clovermoss

Hi Nick! I think it's been awhile since we've talked. I was hoping to maybe have your input on something? So something about the Shaw Festival article kind of reminded me of this section from when I was adopted. Do you think that every upcoming show for a theatre would go against WP:NOTDIRECTORY like listing every tea product a company sells, or is it somehow different? I removed it but then changed my mind and started a talk page discussion, but it's been 10 days and no one's said anything. [9][10][11] I'm worried that maybe I'm thinking about this in the wrong way and would appreciate some input. Clovermoss (talk) 16:23, 4 May 2022 (UTC)

Hello

It appears you are preoccupied with more demanding duties, this is me checking up on you. It’s my prayer that this message reaches you in good health and peace. Celestina007 (talk) 20:31, 6 May 2022 (UTC)

@Celestina007 Thank you for your thoughts. There are no serious issues at home, but many demands on my time in real life at the moment which require my attention. As you well know, Wikipedia requires a time commitment to do justice to many of complex issues that arise. I’m only able to make passing visits right now for quick fixes by phone. (I’m replying from a much/needed soak in the bath, right now!) Kindest regards, Nick Moyes (talk) 22:51, 6 May 2022 (UTC)
I’m glad hearing from you and knowing you are in good health. I can’t wait to see you back to editing full time :) Celestina007 (talk) 22:56, 6 May 2022 (UTC)

I want to know if you are able to give me some suggestions' about how I should improve the article which I'm currently making in my sandbox, Vaizitsinia, and if I have anything to remove or to add to it before I turn it into a draft so that way I could be sure that there's a higher chance of it getting accepted. Question

I think I missed it when the change was introduced, or maybe I just didn't notice before? But I see now that there's an easily clickable button to reply to someone. Is this something that was proposed by the growth team? Do you happen to know how new it is? I've just noticed it and I think it's a great idea. I haven't fully read through everything that the team's done so far but it seems to be going in an interesting direction. Clovermoss (talk) 02:02, 15 April 2022 (UTC)

@Clovermoss Hello. How are you? Yes, the 'Reply' feature was rolled out as a permanent feature around late Fem/early March. (I've forgotten quite when). It was available as a an optional beta feature which you could have selected via your Preference settings. I've been using it for the last year or so, and found it really good. So it'll be a great help to new users. Are you aware of the new 'Homepage' tab which all new users now get (since March)? 10% of them also get to see they've had a 'mentor' assigned to them who they can ask questions to. Must dash- have just been called to lunch. Cheers, Nick Moyes (talk) 11:21, 15 April 2022 (UTC)
I didn't know it has been rolled out to all new users, but I was aware that there was some stuff like that being tested. As I said, I'm still trying to catch up on what I've missed but it seems cool. As for how I've been, not that great lately to be completely honest. I think I'm editing to just keep my mind off of some things going on in my real life. But it's a healthy distraction, I think. Like listening to music, being around here is something I enjoy. Clovermoss (talk) 20:08, 15 April 2022 (UTC)

Question from Julanjani on Wikipedia:CEE Spring 2022/Participate (08:50, 22 May 2022)

How to contact the Charitable Foundation --Julanjani (talk) 08:50, 22 May 2022 (UTC)

@Julanjani Hello, and thanks for your question. Do you genuinely mean you want to contact a member of staff from the Wikimedia Foundation itself, or do you want to contact one of the volunteers involved in the CEE Spring 2022 scheme (click here for that), or to donate money to support the work of the Wikimedia Foundation? These are all very different things. We have lots of ways to contact people. Go to Wikipedia:Contact us and select tab most related to your query. To make a financial contribution, you can go to this donations page.
If none of this makes sense, just let me know why you want to contact someone, and what you want to achieve, and I may be able to help you further. Regards, Nick Moyes (talk) 09:27, 22 May 2022 (UTC)

New Page Patrol newsletter May 2022

New Page Review queue March 2022

Hello Nick Moyes,

At the time of the last newsletter (No.26, September 2021), the backlog was 'only' just over 6,000 articles. In the past six months, the backlog has reached nearly 16,000, a staggering level not seen in several years. A very small number of users had been doing the vast majority of the reviews. Due to "burn-out", we have recently lost most of this effort. Furthermore, several reviewers have been stripped of the user right for abuse of privilege and the articles they patrolled were put back in the queue.

Several discussions on the state of the process have taken place on the talk page, but there has been no action to make any changes. The project also lacks coordination since the "position" is vacant.

In the last 30 days, only 100 reviewers have made more than 8 patrols and only 50 have averaged one review a day. There are currently 803 New Page Reviewers, but about a third have not had any activity in the past month. All 851 administrators have this permission, but only about a dozen significantly contribute to NPP.

This means we have an active pool of about 450 to address the backlog. We cannot rely on a few to do most of the work as that inevitably leads to burnout. A fairly experienced reviewer can usually do a review in a few minutes. If every active reviewer would patrol just one article per day, the backlog would very quickly disappear.

If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, do suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}} on their talk page.

If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.

To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

Question from Deepak Prince W (06:12, 24 May 2022)

Hi Nick, Good morning. I just started this login. So what is the process? I should edit & submit the pages recommended for you & you would review & accept it? Is there any other points I need to note. This is the 1st time. So kind of want to know if I do it right..:) --Deepak Prince W (talk) 06:12, 24 May 2022 (UTC)

@Deepak Prince W Good morning to you too, and welcome to Wikipedia. Starting editing can sometimes feel overwhelming right at the beginning (a bit like driving a car for the first time).
But, no, you don’t have to get approval for any edits, unless you are trying to create a whole new article from the beginning. See Articles for Creation if that is what you want to do.
If you edit a page and someone else doesn’t think it is an improvement, it’s an easy step for them to revert it. Don’t be upset if this happens - it’s common when you start off here. Just try to work out why they might have done that. You can even ask them directly if you want to know more.
I will drop by talk page and leave some links to help you get going. Feel free to ask me to check anything you’ve done, but you are not obliged to do that at all. Good luck. Nick Moyes (talk) 06:33, 24 May 2022 (UTC)

@Deepak Prince W I think that's absolutely perfect. It's great to have bilingual editors here, so I wish you all the best. That's so everyone else can Verify what you've written, based upon good, [[WP:RS|Reliable Sources]. Question from Ajnasir (17:03, 11 June 2022)

Profile picture --Ajnasir (talk) 17:03, 11 June 2022 (UTC)

Hello @Ajnasir. Welcome to Wikipedia. As a new editor to Wikipedia, you really don't need a profile picture on your userpage. You've said more than enough about yourself for people to appreciate your background and knowledge. This is not like LinkedIn where you promote yourself. I assume you've come here to edit Wikipedia articles, so I'll leave a welcome message with some links to help you understand how to edit.
Remember: we always seek a Neutral Point of View in articles, basing everything on Reliable Sources. You would have a Conflict of Interest if you cited media content that you had written yourself, so please try to stay away from topics that you are involved in, and always add references that enable everyone else to be able to Verify them. Good luck, Nick Moyes (talk) 17:23, 11 June 2022 (UTC)

AAU Adopter list

Nick, I see Medium being utilized as a reliable source for a lot of the information in this BLP. My concern is that Medium is a blog. It's also a Primary source because Roxane is the author of the blogs. I think most of the information contained in the Personal Life section is undue but I'd like a second opinion if you'd be willing to look. I think in other sections where Medium is used as a source it is to self-quotes and non-controversial information that is due and contributes to the reason why the subject is notable so I wouldn't do anything with it. Would you mind giving me your opinion on WP:DUE and if it applies to that section? Thank you --ARoseWolf 15:16, 17 June 2022 (UTC)

@ARoseWolf I'm afraid I don't have time to look in detail as I'm packing to go away for a while. I checked just one reference to Medium (this one - currently ref # [96]) and it does just supports personal details she's reported about herself. But I agree, there's too much trivial detail, so feel free to remove stuff like her pet dog. Not sure about height - is it in any way relevant to her life story? If not, trim that, too. In addition, their username is also nearly identical to another of his socks. I know this user hasn't edited in a while, but blocking may be helpful to prevent more block evading edits. New Page Patrol newsletter June 2022

New Page Review queue June 2022

Hello Nick Moyes,

Backlog status

At the time of the last newsletter (No.27, May 2022), the backlog was approaching 16,000, having shot up rapidly from 6,000 over the prior two months. The attention the newsletter brought to the backlog sparked a flurry of activity. There was new discussion on process improvements, efforts to invite new editors to participate in NPP increased and more editors requested the NPP user right so they could help, and most importantly, the number of reviews picked up and the backlog decreased, dipping below 14,000[a] at the end of May.

Since then, the news has not been so good. The backlog is basically flat, hovering around 14,200. I wish I could report the number of reviews done and the number of new articles added to the queue. But the available statistics we have are woefully inadequate. The only real number we have is the net queue size.[b]

In the last 30 days, the top 100 reviewers have all made more than 16 patrols (up from 8 last month), and about 70 have averaged one review a day (up from 50 last month).

While there are more people doing more reviews, many of the ~730 with the NPP right are doing little. Most of the reviews are being done by the top 50 or 100 reviewers. They need your help. We appreciate every review done, but please aim to do one a day (on average, or 30 a month).

Backlog drive

A backlog reduction drive, coordinated by buidhe and Zippybonzo, will be held from July 1 to July 31. Sign up here. Barnstars will be awarded.

TIP – New school articles

Many new articles on schools are being created by new users in developing and/or non-English-speaking countries. The authors are probably not even aware of Wikipedia's projects and policy pages. WP:WPSCH/AG has some excellent advice and resources specifically written for these users. Reviewers could consider providing such first-time article creators with a link to it while also mentioning that not all schools pass the GNG and that elementary schools are almost certainly not notable.

Misc

There is a new template available, {{NPP backlog}}, to show the current backlog. You can place it on your user or talk page as a reminder:

Very high unreviewed pages backlog: 13531 articles, as of 00:00, 25 November 2024 (UTC), according to DatBot

There has been significant discussion at WP:VPP recently on NPP-related matters (Draftification, Deletion, Notability, Verifiability, Burden). Proposals that would somewhat ease the burden on NPP aren't gaining much traction, although there are suggestions that the role of NPP be fundamentally changed to focus only on major CSD-type issues.

Reminders

Question from JeffersonJakline (10:47, 12 July 2022)

Hi Moyes, I'm so glad to be here, I submitted a biography about Arshia Einehdinipoor but didn't got acceptance, I would to ask you if its possible to help me to manage in doing that. --JeffersonJakline (talk) 10:47, 12 July 2022 (UTC)

@JeffersonJakline Welcome to Wikipedia. Having a book published does not make someone notable. The criteria for accepting a biography of someone is that ‘’other people’’ in mainstream media have noticed and written about that person in detail and in depth. See WP:NBIO and WP:GNG - these are shortcuts to our essential notability criteria. You would need to find published sources and ‘cite’ them to support and demonstrate notability. See WP:REFBEGIN - another shortcut to explain how to add references.
Be aware that creating a new article is the hardest thing to achieve here and we always advise newcomers to learn the basics of editing before attempting such a mammoth task. I was here a year before I tried. Best wishes, Nick Moyes (talk) 11:00, 12 July 2022 (UTC)

Question from MarlanaT (00:23, 12 July 2022)

Hi Nick, I made my first edits to an article, but I realized I missed a few updates. Do I need to wait before I go back in and edit? Thank you for your help in advance! --MarlanaT (talk) 00:23, 12 July 2022 (UTC)

@MarlanaT If you missed off citations, do go back in and add them asap. You look to have made quite a large update, so adding a lot more immediately could get the entirety reverted if you add inappropriate content that someone objects to. I sense that you might be connected in some way with this person, or have been asked to make updates. Is that right? If so, please would you ensure you make a simple declaration on your userpage. The details ar here at Conflict of Interest and at WP:PAID if you are in receipt of payment or employment from the subject or agent. (I can advise, if you need me to). Oh, and we don't use first names in encyclopaedia entries - they sound too chummy. Surnames only please. Nick Moyes (talk) 14:19, 14 July 2022 (UTC)

Brill Building

Your listing of Sound One is incomplete. It’s listed as an editing facility when they were the largest state of the art Film and TV Mixing facility on the East Coast for more than 30 years. Kikikat26 (talk) 14:03, 16 July 2022 (UTC)

Hi there, Kikikat26. I'm afraid I have absolutely no idea what you're on about! Have you mistaken me for another user? I've never edited Brill Building, and know nothing about it. If you have suggestions to improve it, you may do so yourself (providing you cite suitable source to confirm it), or you can leave a note on the article talk page at Talk:Brill Building. You can even make a formal 'edit request' if you can prepare the exact form of words you would like to see changed. Just follow the instructions at WP:EDITREQUEST. Cheers, Nick Moyes (talk) 14:17, 16 July 2022 (UTC)

Question from JenniferSkyes (09:39, 18 July 2022)

Hello, How are you? I want to know why my published articles don't delete ? I have published two articles and both of them delete. --JenniferSkyes (talk) 09:39, 18 July 2022 (UTC)

@JenniferSkyes It seemed sensible for me to address this question on your own talk page, rather than here. To be honest, I am shocked that you even needed to ask the question. Both articles were seriously flawed, as I have explained there. Thanks, Nick Moyes (talk) 23:43, 18 July 2022 (UTC)

Sorry, just realized what I was editing was your sandbox lol... valereee (talk) 12:19, 24 July 2022 (UTC)

Class project

Hello, I have class project on Tesla Autopilot, and I need help with contributing articles on Wikipedia the information that hasn't been added. Could you please help me on that? I would appreciate it Sudaisshah1999 (talk) 18:58, 26 July 2022 (UTC)

@Sudaisshah1999 Hi there. Thanks for reaching out. What extra help do you need that your coursework or tutors haven't explained? You might be better off asking either of them (User:Helaine (Wiki Ed) or Ian (Wiki Ed)) if you're unsure. I see you've had encountered a few problems already. I hope you now realise that you are not permitted EVER to just copy/paste text from copyright sources into Wikipedia. I'm afraid you put yourself at severe risk of being blocked if you repeatedly do that, as it breaches our key policy on WP:COPYRIGHT.
Wikipedia does not have to contain every known thing about a subject, nor is it a manual of how things work (see WP:NOTMANUAL). Your task is to determine what key information is missing from an article and, in your own words, add that content, citing a reference so that your words can be Verified against Reliable Sources.
To be honest, the article on Tesla Autopilot looks pretty detailed already. So why not explain what's missing and what sources you'd use to support what you'd like to add. If you're unsure if something is worth adding, you can get other editors' views by posting your ideas on the article's talk page at Talk:Tesla Autopilot. I hope this helps you a bit. Nick Moyes (talk) 22:19, 26 July 2022 (UTC)
@Nick Moyes I am aware of that, and I do apologize for that. I will try not to break any more rules. But I am just simply asking for help on adding the missing information. Sudaisshah1999 (talk) 00:41, 27 July 2022 (UTC)
@Sudaisshah1999 No worries. But as I am not a mind-reader, I do not know what the missing information is that you might want to add, why it's needed, or where you get it from. Like I said, an encyclopaedia article is not a manual of instructions. So you might need to justify adding it. One way to do that is to post on the talk page, giving your reasons for adding certain content, the precise wording you want to use, plus a link to a published source. As I know nothing about cars, I am unable to advise on completeness (or otherwise) and I see it as your education task to learn how to add any missing content. If you find it hard to read something and then transform it into your own words without CLOSEPARAPHRASE, try imagining you're telling some friends about what you read yesterday. Talk it out loud, clearly and using your own imagination to interpret what you remember in a short, succinct form that your friends won't get bored listening to. That is the trick of writing for Wikipedia. Nick Moyes (talk) 09:05, 27 July 2022 (UTC)
@Nick Moyes It would be nice if you can lead me to the person that knows it. If not that's fine, I just have to find some information Sudaisshah1999 (talk) 13:37, 27 July 2022 (UTC)
@Nick Moyes I've reached out to their instructor for help.
@Sudaisshah1999, I'm happy to answer any questions you have, but I think you should start by revisiting the training modules the Dashboard. For example, it looks like you only spent 39 seconds on the Plagiarism training module, and only 9 seconds on the Adding Citations training module. Actually working your way through the training modules is an important part of the whole exercise. Ian (Wiki Ed) (talk) 13:46, 27 July 2022 (UTC)
@Ian (Wiki Ed) @Nick Moyes Yeah I have done I think about a month ago. But I don't really have the time to do the learning module, since my project is due in like a week. Otherwise I would have done it. Sudaisshah1999 (talk) 14:18, 27 July 2022 (UTC)
@Sudaisshah1999 It only takes a few minutes to do each one properly. And if you don't do them, you're going to keep running into problems like this. It's one thing for me to help you, but Nick Moyes and the other Wikipedians are volunteers - it's disrespectful to consume so much of their time because you don't want to spend your time on training modules. Ian (Wiki Ed) (talk) 15:53, 27 July 2022 (UTC)
Thank you, @Ian (Wiki Ed). As a volunteer, and Teahouse Host, I'm always happy to help people who get stuck when editing. But, as you say, it's not my role to do other people's coursework for them, and @Sudaisshah1999 will learn most effectively by doing that for themselves. TBH: I'm rather shocked by their answer above. Nick Moyes (talk) 16:20, 27 July 2022 (UTC)
@Ian (Wiki Ed) @Nick Moyes Like I said before, I am not trying to be waste your time or being disrespect anything, I just simply want to get my work done. And I have less time to do it, since I also have a reflection to do aswell which 7 pages longs. I will see what I can do. Thanks for the reply. Sudaisshah1999 (talk) 17:33, 27 July 2022 (UTC)

Hi! Requesting your help, please!

As per Wikipedia’s dispute resolution process, I was directed to administrators who have updated recently to help solve an editing dispute, before escalating the issue. I am kindly asking for your assistance.

I would like to report an error in the deletion of information on a page. Jungkook (the Main Vocalist of BTS) has been confirmed to have absolute pitch and this information was deleted from “the list of people with absolute pitch” page. I can provide multiple articles and sources that confirm this information. There is even a video of Jungkook proving this ability on camera. Can you please help to restore the correct information? I would greatly appreciate your help! Thank you!

Official video posted on the variety show, “RUN BTS” (Episode 150), of Jungkook proving he has absolute pitch on camera: https://m.vlive.tv › postRun BTS! 2021 - EP.150 - V LIVE

These are just several of the articles that confirm Jungkook has “absolute pitch”. I can provide you with more articles and more videos, if needed. Please let me know, thank you.

Hi Nick; you are one of several people this user has canvassed. Please see the discussion [[17]]. I've also asked this user to stop making unfounded allegations against me as they've done repeatedly on their talk page and elsewhere. OhNoitsJamie Talk 23:16, 29 July 2022 (UTC)

I went to you (a third party) for help, as per Wikipedia’s dispute resolution process. Why are you not looking into the actual content of the editing dispute, but instead siding with another administrator, and not trying to solve the editing dispute? Wikipedia wants us to find a third party instead of escalating the situation, which is exactly what I did. Moniinicole (talk) 00:41, 30 July 2022 (UTC)

@Moniinicole You are too quick to draw the wrong conclusions, and accuse me of siding with another editor. I did actually look at each and every one of your sources. I was not convinced by an in-house video of someone tapping a few bells on a table as sufficient evidence to support your claim of 'perfect pitch'. Nor were the opinions of a couple of other people sufficient either, in my view. I would want to see much stronger evidence (although in the article on Jungkook it might be OK to include a reliably sourced statement that "so-and-so said they felt Jungkook had perfect pitch"). My next step in responding to your identical appeal to four administrators (which itself was not necessary, and only serves to occupy a lot of people's time unnecessarily) was to then go to your talk page to see what dispute you were talking about. Is that not a reasonable thing for me to do? It was then that I saw your attitude towards someone saying to you the same sort of thing that I've just told you was quite unacceptable (see here). And so I left you an 'Only Warning' message, requiring you to tone down the accusations, and to assume good faith. If you are not able to do that, you may well find yourself blocked from editing. I did not need to go any further to find any issue - it clearly lay with your unreasonable attitude towards others, so please tone down your ire when dealing with people.
I don't feel your repeated re-addition of the same content to List of people with absolute pitch was reasonable, having had the rationale explained to you. So I hope my opinion helps to fulfil your request for a third party to pass comment, even if it is not what you had hoped for. Regards, Nick Moyes (talk) 01:05, 30 July 2022 (UTC)

Armored Mud Balls Article

Hello Nick Moyes,

This is ConglomerateJoe, and I am Professor Little's student who is trying to help him get the armored mud balls article published. I don't know if you got his reply (it said his email bounced), but I was forwarded your message and I tried writing an email to you. Thank you for reaching out, and I am very glad you are willing to help us. We appreciate your cooperation!

I also read your replies to my post on User talk:Jimfbleak#Armored Mud Balls Draft. In making an article on armored mud balls I promise we are not trying to promote Prof. Little's campaign to get them officially recognized and protected by law, in fact the draft I submitted mentions nothing of this effort. Our goal is to simply contribute to the encyclopedia and educate the public on the existence of this geological phenomenon. I only mentioned the efforts to get armored mud balls protected in my post to Jimfbleak as one reason why they are a notable subject to have on Wikipedia. Also, in the draft I submitted I only cited the armoredmudballs.rocks website because I thought it would help avoid the copyright issue.

I am not entirely sure what you mean about a conflict of interest, but I can assure you that our only goal here is to contribute to the knowledge base of the encyclopedia by writing an educational article about the existence of a geological phenomenon.

Prof. Little recently submitted some new armored mud ball photos to Wikimedia commons by filling out the form to waive his copyright and licensing them under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International. I am wondering if it would be possible for him to do the same with the draft article that he published on the armored mud balls website (www.armoredmudballs.rocks). Is it possible that he could fill out a form or write a statement on the website in order to waive his copyright of the article text, thereby allowing us to publish an edited version of it on Wikipedia?

I look forward to hearing your thoughts on this. I would like to offer my apologies for any hassle that we have caused in not being experienced with publishing on Wikipedia. Thank you very much for your time!

Best regards,

Conglomerate Joe (talk) 19:18, 25 July 2022 (UTC)

@Conglomerate Joe Hi there. Thanks for reaching out. Sorry your Prof got a bounceback from my email system (no idea why that should be). I'm quite happy to discuss things here openly, anyway. So here goes...
  • First off, a conflict of interest is nothing to be ashamed of - but we do ask for them to be declared. See WP:COI. He has one because he is a published authority in that subject, and could (theoretically, I hasten to add) be here to push fringe views, or a book, or some other related issue. Similarly you are a student of his and have been asked to create an article on this topic. Just clarifying that fact on your userpage is all that's needed. I assume he's not paying you for this?
  • I'm delighted to see that User:RDLittle2000 now has got his ID authenticated on Wikimedia Commons by our 'OTRS' team. I don't see any sign that he's ever edited English Wikipedia, but he is most welcome to participate in any discussion here if he wishes (his username and account will work here without anything else needing doing.)
  • The very best way for Prof Little to make his own content available - be it words or pictures- is to change his own website licencing. It currently contains a copyright notice, and we simply cannot allow copy/pasting from any such site containing such a notice. Nor close paraphrasing. He could choose to make everything freely available... or just the text or just specific images; the choice is up to him. Providing he is the owner of every image and all the words, then it is easiest for the entire site to be edited to contain the right kind of licence, instead of a copyright restriction.
  • Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons requires all content to be freely available for both commercial and non-commercial use. We call that a Creative Commons Share Alike licence (see here). Assuming he didn't want to make every single thing available, the following wording might be suitable for the homepage:
All text on this site is available under a CC-BY-SA licence. All images labelled as having been taken by RD Little are also provided for re-use under a CC-BY-SA licence. For all other images, please see individual captions for licencing.
  • Having done that, yes, his text would then be useable by others. However, I don't want to see text written on a single person's website being reused on Wikipedia. In general (and irrespective of the academic achievements or reliability of the person involved) we do not accept blogs, social media or personal websites. Instead, I want to see us using Reliable Sources which have had editorial control. Academic journals and non-self-published books are ideal for this. So, using only our own words (and not paraphrasing what any other author has written in journals), we add statements and support every single sentence or paragraph with a citation. See WP:REFBEGIN for how to do that, including reusing the same reference again and again within one article (see WP:REFNAME).
  • I strongly recommend deletion of section 8 of Prof Little's page in which he puts forward text for use on Wikipedia. It's not needed.
  • The best articles here in Wikipedia are built up piecemeal, every line being based upon summarising a cited work, and not by copy-pasting any other content, including from https://armoredmudballs.rocks.
  • My proposal would be that I start to draft a new article, named in the singular, not the plural, and that you and I work on that for a while before moving it into mainspace. I can guide you, based upon our policies and procedures, and you can guide me based upon your geological expertise and understanding of published sources.
How does that sound? I've made a start on that by creating Draft:Armored mud ball. Note that we use the singular form, not the plural, as we're really talking about one thing. Nick Moyes (talk) 22:47, 25 July 2022 (UTC)
Hi Nick Moyes,
Thank you for your reply! I want to take the time to make a more thorough reply to your post later, but for now I want to let you know that I am delighted you have started a new armored mud ball draft and I am more than happy to work together to develop the page. I will contribute more to it in the next few days. Thank you very much again.
Conglomerate Joe (talk) 18:15, 30 July 2022 (UTC)
@Conglomerate Joe OK, you're welcome. There's no rush, so we can take it at a leisurely pace and work through the various sources, adding things piecemeal. Nick Moyes (talk) 19:26, 30 July 2022 (UTC)

Question from Caucasianhamburger (16:31, 5 August 2022)

what does the green number next to my contribution mean --Caucasianhamburger (talk) 16:31, 5 August 2022 (UTC)

@Caucasianhamburger Great question! It's simply a measure of how much text your edit either added or removed in bytes. A Postive Green number is a net addition to the page; a negative Red number is a net reduction in the article size. I hope this helps. Regards, Nick Moyes (talk) 16:42, 5 August 2022 (UTC)

New Page Patrol newsletter August 2022

New Page Review queue August 2022

Hello Nick Moyes,

Backlog status

After the last newsletter (No.28, June 2022), the backlog declined another 1,000 to 13,000 in the last week of June. Then the July backlog drive began, during which 9,900 articles were reviewed and the backlog fell by 4,500 to just under 8,500 (these numbers illustrate how many new articles regularly flow into the queue). Thanks go to the coordinators Buidhe and Zippybonzo, as well as all the nearly 100 participants. Congratulations to Dr vulpes who led with 880 points. See this page for further details.

Unfortunately, most of the decline happened in the first half of the month, and the backlog has already risen to 9,600. Understandably, it seems many backlog drive participants are taking a break from reviewing and unfortunately, we are not even keeping up with the inflow let alone driving it lower. We need the other 600 reviewers to do more! Please try to do at least one a day.

Coordination
MB and Novem Linguae have taken on some of the coordination tasks. Please let them know if you are interested in helping out. MPGuy2824 will be handling recognition, and will be retroactively awarding the annual barnstars that have not been issued for a few years.
Open letter to the WMF
The Page Curation software needs urgent attention. There are dozens of bug fixes and enhancements that are stalled (listed at Suggested improvements). We have written a letter to be sent to the WMF and we encourage as many patrollers as possible to sign it here. We are also in negotiation with the Board of Trustees to press for assistance. Better software will make the active reviewers we have more productive.
TIP - Reviewing by subject
Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages by their most familiar subjects can do so from the regularly updated sorted topic list.
New reviewers
The NPP School is being underused. The learning curve for NPP is quite steep, but a detailed and easy-to-read tutorial exists, and the Curation Tool's many features are fully described and illustrated on the updated page here.
Reminders
  • Consider staying informed on project issues by putting the project discussion page on your watchlist.
  • If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}} on their talk page.
  • If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.
  • To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.
