The King and I is at FAC

Hi, Omnedon. The King and I has been nominated for FAC. I know that you have reviewed articles in the musical theatre area before. It would be great if you could take a look at the article and give comments at the FAC. Thanks for any time you could spare! -- Ssilvers (talk) 00:28, 27 January 2013 (UTC)

Sorry for the delay. I will try to look at this in the next few days and will provide input. Omnedon (talk) 18:22, 28 January 2013 (UTC)

Good riddance?

I've never seen anything quite like this before -- a good editor leaving Wikipedia on principle, and another editor saying "Good riddance" in response. Such immaturity, regrettably, deserves mention. Omnedon (talk) 20:56, 5 February 2013 (UTC)

Jefferson Davis middle name

Please read the reference in the middle name in the article. This reference from the University of Virginia, says "Fine", not "Finis".--212.22.51.31 (talk) 21:08, 6 February 2013 (UTC)

Please explain why are you reverting my editions against the content of the reference.--212.22.51.31 (talk) 21:12, 6 February 2013 (UTC)
Please explain why you are ignoring references that clearly state his middle name as "Finis", and please specify what reference you are using. The name is clearly "Finis"; typos do happen sometimes. Omnedon (talk) 21:14, 6 February 2013 (UTC)
I see you are using a web page as a reference. That cannot override published references, all of which disagree. This is clearly a typographic error. Omnedon (talk) 21:18, 6 February 2013 (UTC)
Thank you, Omnedon. As you can see in the history, the reference was not included by me. I was following the reference that was included by someone user someday. If it is an error, I accept it, but it was logical that I follow the indicated references. Sorry for my late edition but I was waiting a message in my own talk page. Another things: what references can I consult? Thank you.--212.22.51.31 (talk) 21:23, 6 February 2013 (UTC)
I tagged the citation as failing to verify the cited fact. If the cited source is wrong (which seems to be the case), the citation should be replaced with one that identifies a source that is not wrong. —BarrelProof (talk) 22:42, 6 February 2013 (UTC)
Well done, BarrelProof. My fail was caused by the fact that someone included a wrong reference and, with all my good faith, I assumed it was verified and, therefore, correct. I'm foreign and in my country we haven't very much about Jefferson Davis. I hope these fails can be avoided in the future. Thanks.--212.22.51.31 (talk) 00:14, 7 February 2013 (UTC)
It is good that you brought attention to the issue. Just reversing your edits did not resolve the conflict between the article and the cited source, which is the real problem here. You were also correct to discuss it with the other editor, and you did so in a polite and respectful way. Thank you for your good contribution to Wikipedia! —BarrelProof (talk) 01:03, 7 February 2013 (UTC)
Yes, welcome. Unfortunately the Jefferson Davis article tends to be a target for vandalism, and on the surface this appeared to be happening here, especially since it came from an IP address; and in particular, people often try to change the middle name to various other offensive names, so this seemed to fit a common pattern. But it wasn't part of that pattern and you were acting in good faith. Thanks! Omnedon (talk) 01:07, 7 February 2013 (UTC)

Census 2010 Gazetteer

Hello, Omnedon. I just saw your post at User talk:MerlLinkBot asking the bot to update two links. Since my bot is approved for the same task as MerlLinkBot, I was going to run the task myself but I noticed that http://www.census.gov/geo/www/gazetteer/files/2010_place_list_17.txt and http://www.census.gov/geo/www/gazetteer/files/2010_place_list_18.txt don't work either (the links you wanted the dead links to be replaced with). Would you be able to find where the links have been moved to? If so, I would be glad to run the task. -- Cheers, Riley 04:33, 12 April 2013 (UTC)

Hendricks County Map

Hi, Omnedon. I was wondering if you have a map available of Hendricks County which shows the towns and townships but does not have any townships highlighted. Large PNG image, ideally. I am creating a website which will include an interactive map search based on towns & townships which will highlight when hovered over. I am having no luck finding any quality maps of the county other than what you have done. Thanks. Bburgdaddy0 (talk) 19:29, 1 May 2013 (UTC)BburgDaddy0

Here is one in SVG format to start with. It has no labels for townships or settlements; is that what you want? File:Location map of Hendricks County, Indiana.svg Omnedon (talk) 01:55, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
That is perfect! Thanks! Bburgdaddy0 (talk) 19:30, 2 May 2013 (UTC)Bburgdaddy0

AE

Per your comment "[editor]'s behavior hasn't changed one bit since the ANI." I think the understanding was that that particular editor is by nature wordy and has asked others to tell them when to stop. In the case of the recent RM, an admin reviewed the situation and determined that everything was under control and that no intervention was needed. I personally thought that the onus of having to go find an admin every time said editor gets too wordy was unusual, but I do see that as the best solution, and a necessary step, as other editors do not always have as much judgement as is expected from an admin. Our admins tend to be relatively responsive, and few editors have ever had any trouble finding an admin to step in when needed (recently I had one speedy delete a file seconds after I made the mistake of tagging the wrong file out of two, and it was gone before I could mark the right file). Apteva (talk) 14:38, 12 May 2013 (UTC)

I disagree with almost everything you've said. I have found that as a class, some admins have good judgment and some do not, just as with the general class of editors. In other totally unrelated situations over years, I have indeed seen difficulty with admins stepping in when necessary. It's extremely hit-and-miss. As for B2C, it goes far, far beyond mere wordiness, as is entirely clear from the ANI and other discussions. You say that an admin "reviewed the situation" and determined that no intervention was necessary; who was this, and when did that happen? Omnedon (talk) 14:45, 12 May 2013 (UTC)
This is meantioned at AE. It is true that some admins get defrocked for not observing good judgement, but you also could have put the brakes on the discussion by [editor], instead of yourself getting roped in and making half a dozen replies after I had declared the discussion over. (this would have been a large trout if you were an admin, but I see now you simply replied in the uninvolved admin only section at AE, and for that a minnow is deserved) Could you kindly move your comments at AE to the proper section? (click on Statement by (username) and change (username) to your username. [I see you already have a section.] Thanks. Apteva (talk) 16:06, 12 May 2013 (UTC)
So you believe that Diannaa determined that everything was under control and no intervention was required? No, the link you just provided indicates that the discussion was already closed -- not that everything was "under control". Omnedon (talk) 16:44, 12 May 2013 (UTC)
"Put the brakes" on the discussion? This is exactly the problem with B2C -- he will not stop. How is it that you are able to "declare the discussion over"? Do not speak to me of trouts and minnows, please. Omnedon (talk) 17:09, 12 May 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the help. just now

Hi Omnedon! I'm delighted to see you signed up to the WDL project- welcome. I'm actually a Hoosier as well, so even better! :) We don't have a ton of Indiana content, but you might find something that strikes your fancy related to North American history on this to do list. I also searched for Indiana on the WDL website. Here are the results. Not much right now, but, we update the website monthly and I will update the to-do lists accordingly. If I can be of any help, just let me know, and be sure to share your outcomes here. Thanks so much for all you do! SarahStierch (talk) 17:06, 23 May 2013 (UTC)

Yes it was a mistake. Sorry. When I view the history of the page it tell me that all the edits since my last one are "updated since my last visit", so I must have hit the wrong button, but as it was a error I have no recollection of it. -- PBS (talk) 12:15, 17 June 2013 (UTC)

That happens. :-) Just wanted to check. Omnedon (talk) 14:27, 17 June 2013 (UTC)
If you leave a message for me here on my talk page, I will answer it here so as to keep the parts of the conversation in one place.

Radclyffe Hall - Radclyffe Hall

Not sure what's happening here, but my browser (Firefox 23.0.1) will not display the text string 'Radclyffe Hall' when that string is enclosed by square brackets, such as to define a Wikilink. For example - the title of this section has the string 'Radclyffe Hall' written twice, the first being enclosed, the second not and I can only see one title. Hmmmmm...any ideas? Eddie.willers (talk) 10:25, 31 August 2013 (UTC)

That is odd. I just tried it in Firefox 23.0.1 and it works fine. Have you tried clearing your cache? No idea if that would help, but sometimes cache corruption can do odd things. Have you tried Chrome or IE? That would verify that it's a browser-specific issue. Omnedon (talk) 13:18, 31 August 2013 (UTC)

Sorry about Jefferson Davis / James Swanson

Sorry about adding that link for James Swanson on the Davis article; I could have sworn that Swanson had an article, but apparently I misremembered. I was just about to revert it when I saw that you beat me to it. KConWiki (talk) 13:33, 20 October 2013 (UTC)

That's OK, I know how it goes. :-) Omnedon (talk) 13:35, 20 October 2013 (UTC)
BTW, I was planning to link a few other authors (like James M. McPherson) in the bibliography section, but I will double check first for the existence of their articles. KConWiki (talk) 13:36, 20 October 2013 (UTC)
Thanks, that's great! Omnedon (talk) 14:01, 20 October 2013 (UTC)

Jefferson Davis / NYT citations

Hi again - Could you take a look at the Davis talk page? There is a slight mix-up with a couple of citations. Thanks KConWiki (talk) 14:27, 20 October 2013 (UTC)

On a similar theme... Just a quick note to congratulate you on the promotion of Jefferson Davis to FA status recently. If you would like to see this (or any other FA you may have helped to write) appear as "Today's featured article" soon, please nominate it at the requests page; if you'd like to see an FA on a particular date in the next year or so, please add it to the "pending" list. In the absence of a request, the article may end up being picked at any time (although with 1,336 articles in Category:Featured articles that have not appeared on the main page at present, there's no telling how long – or short! – the wait might be). If you'd got any TFA-related questions or problems, please let me know. Thanks, BencherliteTalk 11:13, 4 November 2013 (UTC)

Thanks! I've applied for June 3, Davis' birthday. We'll see what happens. Omnedon (talk) 13:14, 5 November 2013 (UTC)
You did it!!! Big congrats on getting this major figure through GA FA. -- Khazar2 (talk) 12:22, 9 November 2013 (UTC)
Thanks! As usual I learned a lot in the process. Thinking of what my next project will be... Omnedon (talk) 01:01, 10 November 2013 (UTC)
Sorry, meant to write FA above; as usual, I have GAs on the brain. You're welcome to add another half million, too, or just display the latter:
