Iravan

[edit]

Yes, Redtiger. I've looked over the comments at FAC, and I think I can help in a small way by suggesting minor changes. Rather than clutter the FAC page, I'll post my comments to the article's talk page. I will do that today. Finetooth (talk) 20:17, 6 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, no. As I say at the top of my talk page, I no longer have time to do complete copyedits. It's not a matter of not wanting to help everyone; it's a matter of physical impossibility. I spent perhaps three hours today on Iravan. Meanwhile, the pile at PR keeps growing, and I'm trying to help there as much as possible. We have, as you know, a chronic shortage of good reviewers. It would be very helpful if you or one of the other editors who have worked on this article would consider my suggestions one by one and decide whether they have merit or not. If they have merit, then implement them and look for similar patterns elsewhere in the article. Finetooth (talk) 05:08, 7 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It's morning here again, and I will continue with Iravan. However, a further glitch is that my Internet connection has been unreliable for several weeks, and the problem seems to be in or near my house. Technicians from the service provider have already been here twice to repair wires outside the house. A third technician is coming here this morning for the second time to examine components inside the house; no one yet has solved the problem. The Internet will work fine for a while, hours or days, then abruptly stop without warning. The technician will be here in about 20 minutes, and I will be unable to work while he is here. I hope I will be able to work after he leaves. Iravan is at the top of my to-do list. Finetooth (talk) 16:36, 7 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Done. I finished the article, then I went through it again and this time made some small changes, notably to punctuation and quantities that needed conversion to metric. Your changes improved the article, I believe. I posted three further questions to the Iravan talk page and two short notes to the FAC page. Hope this helps. [edit]

I just want to let you know, I think Iravan is certainly an impressive article. I think we may have gotten off on the wrong foot, and I am impressed the effort you put into the article. I just thought that the wording could be improved in places to give it the finishing touch. I responded, and if you address those comments, I'll be ready to strike my oppose.

BTW, I also have an FAC right now, if you want to badger me with endless comments :P - Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Cyclone Gonu/archive1. Peace, Hurricanehink (talk) 17:44, 12 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Kashi Vishwanath Temple

[edit]

Hi. Can you upload an image of Kashi Vishwanath Temple by requesting flickr users or any other source. It is one of the most important temples of India and deserves a fine image. There was previously an image but was deleted due to copyvio.Thanks-- WorLD8115 (TalK) 07:20, 13 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I will try. --Redtigerxyz Talk 12:36, 13 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi.. Valid point to have a better picture. I doubt you would get any, because I have visited the temple couple of times and it is almost impossible to click a picture there because local authority has banned the photography due to security reasons and a heavy presence of security personnel. --Ashok Prabhu (Talk) 12:52, 14 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It is quite some time since we exchanged mails. I have not gone to Kashi in the recent past. I will see if some one on flickr has uploaded images of Kashi. By the way, should we not upgrade some of our joint efforts on Uttaracnhal articles to GA status.? We can do do some editing and also change unacceptable refernces. Any way, you are the expert in GA review. Pl let me know what I can do in the matter. Thanks. Some how my edit bar is not functioning at all and I am unable to even record my signature. I have left a message in the help desk but no help is forthcoming. N.V.V.Char

Hello Redtigerxyz, I thank you for the fine tuning the Shri Gaudapadacharya Math page and helping improve it. I have provided the additional citations wherever you had tagged it for. Please let me know if that suffices for you to remove the tag for additional Citations for verification..? if so I request you to remove. Also I have replied to you in Talk:Shri Gaudapadacharya Math on your comment of 'POV'. Thanks. --Ashok Prabhu (Talk) 12:49, 14 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Swaminarayan

[edit]

It is not all undue. Original research? What are you talking about, Redtiger. No offense. also, Verses 47, and 84 of Shikshapatri of their own scripture says that Vishnu and Shiva are different aspects of the same God, unlike Madhva, Ramanuja and others. First of all, IKSCON does not elevate Prabupada to a God but considers him to be a God-empowered prophet sort of like Vyasa Hindus do not worship Vyasa. I am not interpreting anything; I am reading the plain translation of Swaminarayan's message on Shikaspatri so it is not anyone's interpretation. Some days back I added request to peer review 'Kabir Panth' article in which some wikipedia users claimed Kabir as God (which is against the history as well as wikipedia policy). Moreover, several promotional links have also been added. My request for peer review is as under:

Redtigerxyz, I missed the references. But, I still disagree with the reference. Please refer the section "Ayyanar and Ayyappan" in the below link. Based on my own knowledge and the fact, Ayyappan is an unmarried bachelor god while Ayyanar is a married god, often portrayed with many of his spouses. Although they have similar names and origins, they are different. http://www.worldlingo.com/ma/enwiki/en/Ayyanar

Based on this fact, I also edited the article Aiyyappan http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Ayyappan#Ayyappan_.2F_Ayyanaar_distinction

Here are some references about the same tradition present in section of Sikhs called Nihangs. It is a major ritual at Hazur Sahib in Maharashtra where Guru Gobind singh breathed his last:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8G8gUr9fIKc

"The most special occasion of the Chhauni is the festival of Diwali which is celebrated for ten days. This is the only Sikh shrine at Amritsar where Maha Prasad (meat) is served on special occasions in Langar" Source: The Sikh review, Volume 35, Issue 409 - Volume 36, Issue 420, Fauja Singh, Sikh Cultural Centre., 1988
"When performing Jhatka on a goat, first the goat is bathed, then Japji Sahib and Chandi Di Var are read. One Singh stands by the head of the goat and upon the final lines of Chandi Di Var being read, ‘Those who sing this divine ballad will be liberated from the realm of life and death’, at this moment the goat is decapitated with one blow and the soul of the goat is liberated. The goat itself lowers its head to receive salvation”. Source: (Giani Thakur Singh, Asa Di Var Viakhya Part 25)

--History Sleuth (talk) 19:04, 16 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This does not mention Bali anywhere. This is pure WP:Synthesis. Thanks --Sikh-History 19:22, 16 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The literal translation of "Bali" is "Sacrifice" . Here is your own source directly stating this. No synthesis or OR is involved here:

"The tradition of ritually sacrificing goats and consuming Mahaparshad remains alive not only with the Nihang Singh Dals, but also at Sachkhand Sri Hazoor Sahib and Sachkhand Sri Patna Sahib (two of the Sikhs holiest shrines). "

Look, the bottom line is, on wikipedia the emphasis is on you to provide credible references. In this instance you must find a reference that referes to Sikhs, Bali and Sacrifice in the same context. I was forced to do exactly the same thing when it came to Hinduism, and they were ruthlessly removed (and rightly so) by other editors. You must do the same. I have searched high and low and have to found one religious text amongst Sikhs that mention Bali sacrifice, in the same context as Hinduism. If you feel strongly, then raise WP:Mediation Thanks--Sikh-History 09:41, 17 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I sense you are now resorting to WP:Point and wikilawyering. The word "Bali" is merely and Sanskrit version of English word "Sacrifice". The references that you deleted were all from WP:RS and one of them was posted by you to make your own point earlier. I request you not to make WP:TLDR either on the discussion pages or on my discussion page. Thanks.--History Sleuth (talk) 12:21, 17 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Merger with Animal sacrifice proposed

[edit]

I have recommened the article Bali (sacrifice) to be merged with Animal sacrifice. The reason is that there is already a general article on the theme to which Hindu and Sikh animal sacrifices can be added as sub topics. I think this new article needlessly duplicates a topic. What is next? Are we going to have separate articles for animal sacrifice in each tradition? There are thousands of creeds which practiced animals sacrifice with various theological inspirations. To dedicate a separate article for each is bit of an overkill, imho. Kindly weigh in with your opinions. Thanks.--History Sleuth (talk) 12:10, 17 August 2010 (UTC

Even if you only reviewed half the article, the fact remains that you reviewed, and that is what we are recognizing here. Its a token of our appreciation that you would volunteer to review - even the smallest of comments or suggestions helps since on average a group of less than 10 of the milhist members handle over 90% of the reviewing. Its our hope that in recognizing contributions to the review department from editors like you that we may be able to encourage more people to participate. In your case, this award is one that you earned, and we are proud to have the honor to present it to you. TomStar81 (Talk) 21:42, 2 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I just wanted to know if there is ANY reliable reference/citation provided on the mentioned article for some ridiculous claims, like that the 'Chief Queen has to mimic copulation' and that the other queens 'utter obscenities', among others. Please do look into it and most probably that part should be removed from the article. There is no mention of such a thing in any of the references provided. 117.194.240.229 (talk) 07:30, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Merge discussion at Underworld

[edit]

I have closed the discussion to merge Underworld to Hell; there was no consensus for that merger. I have started a new discussion. I propose that List of underworlds and List of underworld rulers be merged to Underworld. Your comments are welcome at Talk:Underworld#Merge from lists. I nominated the image for deletion. Sadly, the uploader seems to be a flickrwasher. Regards Hekerui (talk) 18:54, 26 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Was this edit intentional? I only ask because it seems to remove some other comments. Nev1 (talk) 19:21, 26 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I moved the comments down. --Redtigerxyz Talk 15:16, 27 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Because it is an WP:UNDUE in Navaratri. Various Devi temples have various special ways of dressing the goddess in Navaratri. Focusing on one Devi temple is fair to all others. --Redtigerxyz Talk 14:51, 20 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
