Elvis template deletion[edit]

I see your note on my Talk page about (I presume) the deliberate deletion of the Elvis template by Lara?Love, but don't see anything on the ANI page you linked to. I, of course, spoke to her indignantly on her talk page. Am I missing something? Or are people just getting overly excited? Hoserjoe (talk) 07:40, 23 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

thank you :o)[edit]

hey Rod [sorry i couldn't resist... :oP] thanks for the tip re: editing John Peel's page. I've had a go at it like this:

cite book | last = | first = | authorlink = John Peel | coauthors = Sheila Ravenscroft | title = Margrave of the Marshes| publisher = Bantam Press | date = 2005 | location = London | page = p402 | url = | doi = | id = | isbn = 0593 052528

which appears like this when no longer bracketed:

Margrave of the Marshes. London: Bantam Press. 2005. p. p402. ISBN 0593 052528. {{cite book}}: |page= has extra text (help); Unknown parameter |coauthors= ignored (|author= suggested) (help)

i'm sorry to be such a dork but i'm unsure what all the other bits entail ie 'last' and 'first' etc. also when i preview this code, neither Peel's nor the Pig's name appear as authors - why so? also i assume the 'pages' section refers to how many pages the whole book has, rather than the page this quote appears on... i'm sure there must be a guidance page that would answer all these very basic questions for me without wasting your time :oP Incidentally, I studied Law in Liverpool in the mid-80's, before deciding the impecunious life of an artist suited me better... i am currently both an artist and impecunious hehehe Adexxx (talk) 17:48, 23 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • That's nearly there. It should be "| last = Peel| first = John", and the "authorlink" gets filled in automatically. But if you're co-crediting Sheila, which I think is proper, it you need to add in

"last2 = Ravenscroft | first2 = Sheila | author2-link = " after the above fields. Let me know if you get stuck, and congratulations for giving up law. Arpart from the money, I haven't regretted it. --Rodhullandemu (Talk) 18:00, 23 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

re:Rfa[edit]

I know I didn't need to do that, I was just really impressed with the way you handled things along the way. I was watching things unfold and I was thoroughly impressed with your civility, your tact, and your clue. I especially liked your Spinal Tap reference on ANI. Made me laugh. You're a Kool Kat and very deserving of a set of keys to the building. Cheers, dude - and best of luck to you. Let me know if you ever need anything. I've only been admin myself for a week or two so you probably could help me more than I could ever help you, but the offer is there anyway. Happy editing, Keeper | 76 20:02, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I really have to second this. You handled yourself extremely well.
Try not to sweat it, my friend. I know RfA is a stressful thing, and I know conflicts on Wikipedia are rough, but you played this one out smartly. There's no question in my mind you'll be an excellent admin.
If you need anything, you know where to find me. Cheers! - Revolving Bugbear 20:15, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
And as for the stress you mentioned in my talkpage, it certainly does feel like a Wringer, doesn't it? Please know, FTBOMH, admin is no big deal. It's a coupla extra buttons. It causes as much or more stress as being a non-admin because you suddenly have everyone and their brother watching your moves. You're gonna do great though. I'm positive you'll get the buttons, but remember always that this is a volunteer project, meaning the pay sucks, the rewards are intrinsic, and you can always hit that little "X" in the top right corner of your screen if you are getting wiki-fried. In other words, life's too short. Enjoy the mop! If in doubt, ask first. You are going to do great, and you are well on your way. (BTW, FTBOMH=from the bottom of my heart) Happy janitoring, Keeper | 76 21:13, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, the arbcom looks like it might be accepted. Sorry 'bout that, being part of arbcom looks like it sucks (I don't know firsthand, I haven't had that privilege yet). For what it's worth, really you are uninvolved to a large extent. Your RfA was simply used as a platform (right or wrong) to out this particular admin for using sockpuppets. But you're right, you will likely be listed as an involved party. My recommendation you ask? Don't delete the ArbCom page once you have the magic delete buttons. Not that you would. :-) Cheers, RHAE. Keeper | 76 21:25, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've been a tangential party to two ArbCom cases, but not an involved party in any. All I can say is, from my experience, you (Rodhull) haven't actually done anything, so if you are named as a party it will be purely for formality's sake. This case is about sockpuppetry. You are about awesome. ;) - Revolving Bugbear 22:16, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

BN[edit]

Well, I'm neither a bureaucrat nor an admin, but it seems to me that instead of edit warring over it, somebody can just note below the vote that it's a confirmed sockpuppet, and let whoever closes the RfA take it into consideration. Corvus cornixtalk 05:06, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bugbear's comment For a closer look at why someone might suspect Blake is a sock puppet, read the following sentence, which is posted at the top of Blake's talk page: "I've been around for a while, but I just started editing with this account." Ehm, that's basically admitting that he has another account. strikes close to home to me, too, because this is a second account. I used to have another account, but I don't use it any more, but I don't plan on explaining who the other account was, as I left under bad circumstances a long time ago and wanted to start fresh. Although I do understand that the sockpuppetry has been proven, and that Gustafson was using the second account to avoid scrutiny, Bugbear's comments are worrisome to me. Right to vanish also includes right to assume a new identity. Corvus cornixtalk 05:11, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No, I agree, you shouldn't use both accounts at the same time, especially in an attempt at pretending to be somebody else. Corvus cornixtalk 05:15, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rodhullandemu/Archive/06, Thank you for your support in my RFA which passed 43/0/1. I would like to especially thank Bibliomaniac15 for being my nominator and admin coach. I would also like to thank Rudget for being my co-nominator. I'm sure that I can live up to the community's expectations as an administrator, and not totally mess everything up. My RFA[edit]

Thanks!
Rodhullandemu/Archive/06, thank you for showing your support in my RFA which passed with 38 support, 0 oppose, and 0 neutral! I also want to give special thanks to my Admin Coach and nominator, Useight for all of his help and support. I promise that I'll give my best effort as an admin, and I hope that your confidence in me proves to be justified. If I can ever be of any help, please let me know. In the mean time, I have some cleaning to do.

Have a great day! Jauerbackdude?/dude. 20:23, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

a thank you note[edit]

Thanks for participating in my RfA!
Although it failed 43/27/0, I'm happy because the outcome has been very helpful in many meaningful ways. Your support and remarks contributed so much to this. If you followed my RfA you know what happened. Most of the editors who posted opposing opinions have never edited with me. Some articles I edit deal with controversial topics and with respect to a very few of these, editors who didn't know much about me had some worries about confrontational editing and civility. Since I support their high standards I can easily (and will gladly) address this. The support and ecouragement to run again soon has been wonderful, thanks again. Cheers! License tagging for Image:CalnePigs.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:CalnePigs.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. Thanks[edit]

Rod, thanks for your note on my talk page. I, for one, like to see really direct and non-"general" answers to questions -- not just in RFA, but... in general :) Often, the reason that people ask "general" questions is that they don't want to ask "Have you stopped beating your wife?"-type questions. It's not a big deal, and I can only imagine that the RFA has been stressful. Best wishes with the mop... and please don't block me for going neutral :) --JayHenry (talk) 18:29, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Help with Arson[edit]

Hey, could you lend a hand with the arson article? The section concerning English and Scots Law has no cites.--G77 (talk) 01:32, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your input.

The arson article is an example of a problem cropping up with all the common law articles: should we make three sections (one for the history of the common law rule, one for present U.K. law, and one for present U.S. law) or just two sections (one for U.S. law, and one for U.K. law).

It's a bit easier for me to just have two sections. That way, I can describe U.S. law by simply stating the common law rule, explaining that the rule now varies per jurisdiction, and then describe a few of the major themes in those variations (if any exist).

On the other hand, all of these articles are tied together under the rubric of "common law," so, perhaps it is best to emphasize the historical similarities that all common law nations share. We might accomplish this by adding a separate section for the old common law rule to each article.

Perhaps I'm over-analyzing. What do you think?--G77 (talk) 07:20, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your input. Sorry, I took so long to get back to you. I think your organization of the burglary article is perfect. I tried to copy that organization with the arson article. I'll try to help out by performing the same organization with the other common law articles. --G77 (talk) 23:29, 15 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your abhorrent support of the Scientological scam[edit]

Travolta is a Cult Member, get over it. It's the truth, simply put. I have a right to let people know that. The whole world should know that this foolish old man is a member of a dangerous cult.

Either you're a Scientolofag or you don't want to imagine the man you fantasize over spreading lies and wasting money. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.239.198.98 (talk) 00:34, 2 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well then it's a legitimate edit; changing it back to its previous, misinformed state would be a violation of the right to have free trade of information. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.239.198.98 (talk) 00:50, 2 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not going to debate this. You are here to push a point of view. That's not what an encyclopedia is for. Travolta's association with Scientology is dealt with in the article itself and whether COS is a cult in some people's eyes, yours included, is irrelevant. Tim Claypole[edit]

Does Tim actually mention rugby UNION when mentioning his wife? I've seen the episode three times this week, believe it or not, but I couldn't swear that Union is mentioned. In the north it is equally likely that she plays rugby league. Yes, I've previously checked out the Rugby dab page; what about not linking rugby at all? Just leave it to the reader to decide in their own mind which code it is... although, as we all know, 'Mrs Claypole' probably doesn't exist so it is actually irrelevant. Try this one out and see if it's what you're looking for. XENON54 | talk | who? | 03 Feb 2008 02:25GMT

Hey, do you think that The Carpenters discography is ready for FL status? I fixed almost everything stated on the nomination page. What do you think? — Cuyler91093 - Соитяівцтіоиѕ 04:27, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you![edit]

Hi, just dropping by to say thanks for supporting my RfA, I totally wasn't expecting to get so much support, it was a really pleasant surprise. Melesse (talk) 04:10, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I concur with your block (although I might have made it a bit longer, say 72 hours) but in future you might consider using the standard user warning template. It has more information such as how to appeal the block. Cheers. Ronnotel (talk) 13:44, 4 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again!

I was wondering... could you please move Christmas Portrait (Original Release) to Christmas Portrait? It was my idea to make Christmas Portrait into a disambiguation page that led to the original release and the rearranged release (there are two releases), but it seems that somebody changed the rearranged release into a redirect to the original release. I would appreciate it if you could help me to fix this mess. Thanks! — Cuyler91093 - Соитяівцтіоиѕ 00:18, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think that would be best. There would be no information lost, because Christmas Portrait redirects to Christmas Portrait (Original Release) and so does Christmas Portrait (Special Edition) (which I think should be deleted). Thanks for the compliment on the discography! I can only hope it passes FL. — Cuyler91093 - Соитяівцтіоиѕ 00:54, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hello again! Are you busy? Or are you even on? Did you do the Christmas Portrait move? Do you speak Spanish? Sorry, I can ask many questions sometimes. — Cuyler91093 - Соитяівцтіоиѕ 16:54, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You know, I think I was just in an edit conflict with myself. — Cuyler91093 - Соитяівцтіоиѕ 16:56, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yay! Thank you! — Cuyler91093 - Соитяівцтіоиѕ 17:27, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
But can you also move Christmas Portrait (Original Release) to Christmas Portrait? That would help. Thanks! — Cuyler91093 - Соитяівцтіоиѕ 17:28, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for helping me! Sorry if I bothered you. Hope to keep in touch! — Cuyler91093 - Соитяівцтіоиѕ 21:11, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

SJ[edit]

You mean along the lines of STOP! I'VE GOT EVERYTHING UNDER CONTROL!!!!. Good gravy. He shows up at the most inconvenient times in the most inconvenient places with the most inconvenient things to say, agree? Keeper | 76 01:48, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ok. You caught me. I'm an oblivious, self-centered, ethnocentric American. I didn't get the Lance Corporal Lance Jones reference, though I'm going to your provided link next to get smarter. As an aside, I do watch the bastardized Americanized version of BBC on cable. I will say for certain that your version of The Office is without question far superior to ours. Keeper | 76 02:01, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Comedy of embarrassment? There's such a thing? Give me a poop joke, then belch on camera, slap someone's ass (arse?) and break a chair over someones head while (whilst?) smashing a watermelon. Somehow wearing short pink shorts and pulling phallic symbols out of one's trunk is the way to go for us. You see, we Yanks don't blush, we strut.... Ok, I give up. I will not defend that which we call comedy. Truly, you have mastered the comedy of embarrassment, we simply have the embarassment we call comedy. Keeper | 76 15:12, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mathew Street[edit]

If the cancalation of 2007 is to be mentioned then the ramifications of that cancelation should also be understood. In this case it cost the boss organist responsible his job, which shows how seriously the cancelation was taken.--Kitchen Knife (talk) 20:18, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've split the article into two. I'll dig out some mathew street articles from Commons.--Kitchen Knife (talk) 20:41, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

Both please, It does seem a shame to delete them but what has to be done has to be done ;) Many thanks Thenthornthing (talk) 16:37, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Glad I could provide a laugh.[edit]

The way I see it, it's better to laugh at SJ's strange postings than to get upset by them. Glad I could give a chuckle! Bellwether BC 02:59, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

admin[edit]

Thanks, I've been asked if I wanted to be an admin, but I don't want to go through the RfA process. I appreciate it, though. And congratulations on your adminship. Corvus cornixtalk 03:54, 9 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

York Minster Stained Glass[edit]

Hey, I'm actually Pessimist on Commons, FWIW. I do think that an article on the stained glass would be good. The glass windows are located all around the church, actually, looking at the lovely diagram of its layout, the windows are mainly in the long section of the cross, if I remember correctly. Did you need specific locations? Best, Keilana|Parlez ici 02:54, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've got a few on Commons, yes, do you have any? They may be better than mine, the light was awful the day I was there. Congrats on your RfA, by the way, welcome to The CabalTM Better known as administrative Hell... Keilana|Parlez ici 03:06, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome. I'm willing to help you if you need it, just poke me on my talk page. Best, Keilana|Parlez ici 03:14, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately they are, but like any good editor, one's opinions should not play a roll in edits on Wikipedia. If that edit was judged to be unconstructive, fair enough, but I'm certainly not a vandal. Welshleprechaun (talk) 01:27, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:BoxTunnelScape.jpg, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This arbitration case has been closed and the final decision is available at the link above. The Arbitration Committee finds that the blocks on User:MatthewHoffman were unjustified. It also states that Vanished user's adminship will be waived at this time. Vanished user may regain his sysop access by application to the Committee, upon demonstration of six months editing in compliance with communal norms and conduct standards. If regained, he will then be placed on parole with regard to both conduct and admin tool use for a further period of six months. Blocking notice[edit]

Hi there. Thanks for the heads up. I think perhaps I was a bit too stern. I should have given a final warning or a de minimus block (under 24 hours). I've learned another lesson. I noted such on the incident board. Bearian (talk) 18:22, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I also apologized at User talk:Decoratrix. Bearian (talk) 20:44, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
