Tagging image duplicated on the Commons

{{helpme}} Hi all,
Uploaded this public domain image to en.wikipedia, then realised my error and uploaded it to the commons. The en.wikipedia image should be deleted. Can't simply "blank the page" - this appears not to work, and even it did would seem to me somewhat inelegant. Is there an appropriate speedy tag I should add, or is there some better procedure to follow?

{{db-commons}} is the most specific I can think of (though {{db-author}} or {{db-because}} might work in a pinch, with a little explanation). Since this was a pretty straightforward case, I went ahead and deleted the local instance of the image. Thanks! :) – Luna Santin (talk) 10:34, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi Daniel,
I noticed you started sandboxing an article about Bill Harrigan about a fortnight after I re-started the three-times deleted article. Three questions:

• Why Bill Harrigan?
• Why the wait?
• Your sandboxed article looks better to me than the current article. I must admit I am sorely tempted to copy+paste your work into the existing article and so add it on my edit count. Hmm. This doesn't seem to be a question at all. Or is it?

• Cos I <3 Harrigan. All-time favourite NRL personality, above and beyond any player. Met him once, got his book also.
• Cos I'm lazy and easily distracted :) See the history of 1999 Sydney hailstorm (which I did eventually finish and move to mainspace) for another fine exhibit of my laziness.
• Normally I like finishing my articles before moving them across, but quite frankly, go for it :) Provided you say something like "Written by [[User:Daniel]], copying to this article" or something, I don't mind!

Help needed for ref for move

You can call me Bugboy52.4, or just Bugboy will be fine too. Well I don't believe there are any consensuses for naming an article (That is insects anyway, see Category:Wikipedia naming conventions, and Wikipedia:List_of_guidelines or Wikipedia:List_of_policies), and when I name an article I always use their binomial name, see Syntomeida Epilais or Urophora cardui. But I always make a redirect page, see Polka-dot wasp moth, so when someone goes searching for the species, they can still find it(considering that they most likely won't know the binomial name). "What Becomes of the Broken Hearted?" help needed

{{helpme}} Hi all,
Problem: The article What Becomes of the Broken Hearted? currently looks jumbled and not particularly readable. I smallerised the book cover image, but no dice, article still lumpy, with [edit] handles in non-intuitive places. The article itself currently contains info about two non-controversially notable things, the book and the movie, but is mostly about the movie.
Solution: Start an article What Becomes of the Broken Hearted? (novel)
Problem with the Solution: The 1996 novel preceded the 1999 movie. The movie was contingent on the novel. Arguably What Becomes of the Broken Hearted? should about the novel, not the movie. This would require a whole lotta WhatLinksHere changes. While I think this argument is balderdash, I've looked all over the place and I can't find any policy about article precedence of novels made into films. What should I do next?

Typically, the less notable topic will go to the page with the qualifier in the title. I have no idea which one that is in this case, if you can't decide or there is a dispute about it you can make the current title into a disambiguation page, which could then also point to the song.
In any case someone will always have to go through all incoming links, and retarget them where needed
Now, the bunched-up edit links are a well known problem. They can be fixed (see Wikipedia:How to fix bunched-up edit links), but it's not trivial in this case, and once the article is split the problem will vanish anyway.

(novel) per WP:NAME (notice the capitalization of the "the"), when you recreated it while adding the {{novel-stub}}. Irish Experiment

I have reverted your edit to the table on the Irish Experiment. I don't think that breaking this table into periods adds anything to the list in the article. The list is too small for a start. It effectively disables any meaningful sorting of columns. Also the context of what you're trying to do is in the body text of the article. Frank Duckworth and Tony Lewis

Indeed there isn't a formal way to withdraw an AfD, so as long as you make it clear what you are doing you can't really go wrong!

What I'd do is:

1. edit Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Frank Duckworth as follows
   • strikethrough your comment !Also Delete: Tony_Lewis_(mathematician), for substantially the same reasons as above.--Shirt58 (talk) 12:59, 27 June 2009 (UTC)"
   • after this comment write something like withdraw Tony Lewis from this AfD - I think it will be better to consider his article separately (don't forget to sign!).
2. nominate the Tony Lewis (mathematician) article for deletion in the normal way. In your nomination statement make sure to link to the Frank Duckworth AfD, note that Tony Lewis was previously considered there but you withdrew him from there to be considered separately here. Mote that the Frank Duckworth AfD will likely finish earlier than this one.
3. edit the Frank Duckworth AfD again
   • Add a link to the Tony Lewis AfD after the comment you added a few moments ago.
   • At the bottom of the AfD make a statement something like: Note: I've removed Tony Lewis from this discussion and nominated him separately (brief reason) - see [link]. (sign!)
4. optionally, put a note on the talk page of everyone who has commented on the Frank Duckworth AfD noting that Tony Lewis is now being considered separately.
   • If you do this, put a note to this effect on the Tony Lewis AfD. At the same time, if you didn't do it earlier, add the Tony Lewis AfD to the deletion sorting categories (cricket, living people, academics and educators, United Kingdom).

Note that I have probably made it seem much more complicated than it actually is!

For future reference, when you added Tony Lewis to the Frank Duckworth AfD, you should have placed the AfD template on Tony Lewis' article. See Wikipedia:Articles for deletion#How to list multiple related pages for deletion. Thryduulf (talk) 11:50, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

Referencing wikicode help needed for edits in article Liberalism in Australia

I'm trying to improve the referencing in the article Liberalism in Australia. Current Ref 4, a link to a speech by a former Australian PM appears in the References section as "[www.pm.gov.au/News/Speeches/speech1554.htm pm.gov.au_News_Speeches_speech2005]" (in English). www.pm.gov.au/News/Speeches/speech1554.htm. Retrieved 2009-10-07. instead of the standard ref cite format. I've tried seventeen different colours of re-referencing or work-arounds, but no dice.
As always, your guidance, help, and tech knowledge are sincerely and greatly appreciated!

Wisden v ICC Awards

I agree with you that there is sometimes a case for being flexible with "See Also" pages, but in the specific case of the Wisden Cricketers of the Year page I think that adding the Sobers Trophy link would be a bad idea. The reason is that there are dozens of cricketing awards given out every year, and if the Sobers link were added there would be no real reason not to add five or ten or twenty more. This would dilute the focussed nature of the Wisden page, and as it has been awarded Featured status I think it needs more careful watching in this (and other) regards than some pages. Of course, there's no reason why you shouldn't take this up at WT:CRIC if you still disagree.

I don't get the Zebedee reference you made, I'm afraid. I know it's from The Magic Roundabout, but it doesn't seem to have any relevance to this discussion! Loganberry (Talk) 16:14, 11 October 2009 (UTC)
