Assange revert

Hello, Spy-cicle. FYI, The content you restored has been disputed since its first appearance in the article, including in an RfC. Please review the talk page and archive. Silent consensus is not applicable here. Thanks. SPECIFICO talk 02:32, 9 May 2021 (UTC)

Depp

See my comment. I freely admit to being an inconsistent and opinionated old bastard, but IMO that's the correct analysis. Reframe the question substituting people and sources of opposite bias, and see how it feels. You know I'm keen on the Ad Fontes chart, my view is we should keep all contentious claims well within the "green box of joy". And in that I don't even really count The Hill. Solid, reliable sources your grandpa would have respected. Guy (help! - typo?) 21:31, 12 May 2021 (UTC)

@JzG: Wait I thought editors (including you at some point?) do not think AdFontes was reliable (or was that sarcasm ... ooops). I personally do not mind using it occassionally (though interesting to see that DM is "neutral or balanced" bias wise ...). But yes do understand what you are getting at. If I had a gun to my head now, I'd probably favour exlusion but it highly depends on the context used. Though curious in your intial comment you said two right-wing sources of dubious reliability do you consider Fox News op-eds on their websites (not talk shows) usable/reliable or in this case is it dubious as it is linked to the NYP. Or is it to with this specific author's credentials. Regards  Spy-cicle💥  Talk? 22:21, 13 May 2021 (UTC)

Thank you for your effort

I see that the edit-warring dispute you reported has been closed as "stale". I'm kind of disappointed in this result because the fact is that 1RR notices are not handed out lightly and these things should be taken to a satisfactory conclusion. I did the wrong thing there and I'll take more care in future.

Thank you for keeping an eye on these things. --Pete (talk) 23:10, 29 June 2021 (UTC)

Pete Thanks I tried it seems the surrounding context, as in the wider edits related to Australian-PMs was slightly more complicated than I intially realised though was suprised there was no admin action since I thought the 1RR diffs were clear enough. Either way hope the whole issue surrounding the lead images gets resolved, and hopefully you and Thescrubbythug learn from this mild, and informal reminder/warning about edit warring especially on 1RR articles.  Spy-cicle💥  Talk? 18:12, 3 July 2021 (UTC)
You did the right thing. Wikipedia is the marvel of the world because the community of editors works the rules out amongst themselves and enforces them likewise. Donald Trump

Please read the notice of Disretionary Sanctions relating to this page, to wit:

WARNING: ACTIVE ARBITRATION REMEDIES The article Donald Trump is currently subject to discretionary sanctions authorized by active arbitration remedies (see WP:ARBAPDS). An administrator has applied the following restrictions to this article: 24-hr BRD cycle: If a change you make to this article is reverted, you may not reinstate that change unless you discuss the issue on the talk page and wait 24 hours (from the time of the original edit). Partial reverts/reinstatements that reasonably address objections of other editors are preferable to wholesale reverts. These restrictions have been imposed pursuant to an arbitration decision which authorized discretionary sanctions for all edits about, and all pages related to, post-1992 politics of the United States and closely related people. If you breach the restriction on this page, you may be blocked or otherwise sanctioned. Any uninvolved administrator may levy restrictions as an arbitration enforcement action on users editing in this topic area, after an initial alert. Please edit carefully.

You have violated the 24-hour BRD sanction. I have undone your edit without discussion, and I suggest you be aware that these American Politics articles are a good deal more challenging than some other topic areas with which you may be more familiar and experienced. Please exercise due caution. SPECIFICO talk 01:31, 15 July 2021 (UTC)

@SPECIFICO: That text has been in and out of the lead for past two weeks, without consensus. Moreover, my 2 reverts of the bold addition were 12 days apart. Either provide diffs that I violated DS 24hr BRD restriction or retract that allegation.  Spy-cicle💥  Talk? 01:45, 15 July 2021 (UTC)
Where did you discuss it on talk? Did you read how 24-BRD works, above? SPECIFICO talk 02:49, 15 July 2021 (UTC)
@SPECIFICO: You make a fair point I probably just should have started a discussion like PackMecEng just did on the talk page. Although in fairness my first revert was partial which it says they "preferred". Prior to the second I should have started a discussion then, however my understanding is that the lead epsecially for that page needs consensus which they did so I was confused as why it kept being readded. Surely, the ONUS is on those who want to had the bold addition to the start the discussion.  Spy-cicle💥  Talk? 15:08, 15 July 2021 (UTC)
Look, I just undid your error rather than report you for what appeared to be an inadvertent violation in a new topic area. I'm a bit more concerned about your continued refusal to undo your re-addition of "negotiation" in the North Korea bit. Talk page is against you and as you should know, there can't be text in the lead that doesn't reflect the article text. Please undo your reinstatement of the negotiation text and respond to the points that I and others have made on talk. SPECIFICO talk 15:31, 15 July 2021 (UTC)
@SPECIFICO: In regards to North Korea "negotiations" I have already responded on the talk page, and added refs to the article about the term though I sense that will be reverted. Regards  Spy-cicle💥  Talk? 15:40, 15 July 2021 (UTC)
No you did not respond. You merely listed a bunch of contemporaneous accounts that repeated Trump Administration language while you ignored my request for recent tertiary sources -- the kind we prefer for such content, so as to avoid using contemporaneous newspaper accounts that do not reflect the perspective and additional information available with the benefit of time. What Trump did is not described as negotiation. It was, as we've seen in many other areas, a reality-TV style media campaign that never proceeded to any substantive negotiation. Premature archiving at Trump

I notice that you've been archiving closed discussions very shortly after their closes. That does not give editors time to read the close and consider its implications for article text and sourcing. Please let the normal process unfold, or at least wait a week or ten days before manually archiving these important discussions. The fact that they warranted an RfC suggests that the closure should be widely read and understood, not quickly vanished from the page. Please restore the most recent -- the one about "misogyny" in the lead, which appears to have been archived almost immediately after it was closed. SPECIFICO talk 00:13, 22 July 2021 (UTC)

@SPECIFICO: , I am not sure what you mean here the only time (unless you can provide a diff I am not aware of), I archived a discussion early on the Trump talk page was one the lead sentence RfC about POTUS linking, due how large that discussion was slowing down the page. I, to my knowledge, did not manually archive the misogyny discussion (did not appear to a RfC?). Though I also disagree with the initial close.  Spy-cicle💥  Talk? 01:02, 24 July 2021 (UTC)  Spy-cicle💥  Talk? 01:02, 24 July 2021 (UTC)

RfC notices

I've been discussing where to place the notices with Redrose64, see this section on their talkpage. So far I've placed RfC notices at Talk:Abraham Lincoln, Talk:JFK, Talk George Washington, Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Politics/American politics, Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Biography/Politics and government, Wikipedia talk:WikiProject U.S. Congress, Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Biography, Wikipedia talk:WikiProject United States Presidents, Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Biography, Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Politics, and Wikipedia talk:WikiProject United States. Did you know how many Pres/VP articles there are?...At least 90 (and actually more including all the Veeps) bio articles in all. I'm going to ask on VP:Policy and get some opinions - I just don't want to get a warning or whatever when I am really just trying to do the right thing. Shearonink (talk) 15:18, 19 July 2021 (UTC)

@Shearonink: I understand your caution since that is a fair number of articles there. Personally, as mentioned before, I believe since the content is directly affected on those pages as a result of this RfC it would be a good idea. Though if I have enough time I could try getting around to it myself (and will subsequently accept any consequences). Regards  Spy-cicle💥  Talk? 18:59, 19 July 2021 (UTC)

Birth place again

"We" did not have a discussion about this, there was an attempt to reach consensus which ended with about a 50/50 split. People like you who are, for blatantly political reasons, intent on erasing the UK/Britain from this website as much as you can are being allowed to get away with your agenda, not on the basis of consensus being behind you doing so, but on there being a split opinion. As such, you have absolutely no basis to instruct me of anything on this. I will bring this issue back and see if I can get a majority to support change - your personal political views have been imposed on this website for long enough. Vaze50 (talk), 23:12, 12 August 2021 (UTC)

@Vaze50: What “blatant political reasons”? I am simply enforcing the informal status quo on such articles. I am not going out of my way en masse “expunging” (as you claimed before) to remove UK/GB from info boxes. If consensus existed to mandate GB/UK in info boxes I would be fine with it, but as laid out in the previous discussion, no such consensus exists to do so. Thus, it is unhelpful at best or disruptive at worst, to change en masse without discussion.  Spy-cicle💥  Talk? 23:46, 12 August 2021 (UTC)
@Spy-cicle: There is no (I repeat, no) "informal status quo" on such articles. Most of these articles were changed en masse from including the UK to not including it, and now you are claiming that a consensus existed to do so when it clearly didn't. It is not unhelpful or disruptive to make this website accurate, to record historically accurate changes of place names (e.g. from pre-1707 to post-1707, as we do with ALL other historical articles), nor is it unhelpful or disruptive to add (post-1922) the only UN member state not to be included in infoboxes. There is no consensus not to include it - can you point me to where this consensus exists? You can't, because it doesn't. You are therefore not "simply enforcing the informal status quo", you are - for obvious political motivations - seeking to erase the country from this website which is intended to be accurate, not politically motivated. That is the only thing that is unhelpful at best or disruptive at worst. I will bring this back to a wider discussion to attempt to secure proactive consensus for this change, but unless you can point me to a clear established consensus that it shouldn't be included, that cannot be disruptive. Vaze50 (talk), 09:10, 13 August 2021 (UTC)

August reviews

It seems like your GAN for Zuby is listed for a longer time than my GAN nomination for the music group BTS. If you could do the review for the BTS article then I could offer to do the review for your nomination to try to move the articles forward. What do you think? ErnestKrause (talk) 21:11, 23 August 2021 (UTC)

@ErnestKrause: Hi there, thanks for the comment. Unfoutunately, I cannot read Korean and the article has many Korean sources (which is perfectly valid) so it would difficult for me to assess the sourcing and I am not hugely famliar with the Music topic area (If you have a skim over Zuby article 80% of it is based around things other than music like his views and a police incident). So I will not be able to assess how it weighs up with the GA criteria thus I have to decline the request to review it. Though I hope somebody picks up the review soon (on skim over it looks in good shape). Regards  Spy-cicle💥  Talk? 23:28, 27 August 2021 (UTC)

Shadow of the Colossus

Hey, thanks again for chiming in so quickly! To my eye, these are the article's aspects that could use a fresh layer of work:

General comments
  • Overall proofreading of the restated and untouched portions of the text to square away the basic things: grammar, sentence ordering, prose flow, the works. While I try to be thorough in my revisions, I think that a well-placed instance of comprehensive and constructive second guessing from an unbiased party would go a long way to bringing the article towards WP:FA criteria, especially points 1a, 1b, 1d, 2 and 4.
    • One thing of note as far this issue goes is the lead. While efforts were made to condense and streamline the version of the intro summary last seen in the article's version 1034761164, I would appreciate a second opinion if further scope/content revisions are necessary, particularly from the perspective of reconciling these edits with the suggestions for the plot, development and reception sections detailed below.
  • Standardising references is another concern. While my recent edits touched upon the reformatting of the inline citations throughout the article and partly the source selection itself, secondary input would be a great help in verifying stylistic consistency and accessibility across the body of references.
  • One more thing to note - the scope of the article bears being reviewed. I've attempted to maintain deference to the pre-FAR revisions of the text by clarifying and increasing the ref support of the holdover claims, but looking broadly at the material as it is I have reservations about the relevance of parts of the stuff carried over. Help in assessing the avenues of enforcing the sufficiency of the article's coverage and finding a feel for a way to deal with the issue of comprehensiveness would be very welcome.
Particulars
  • Thoughts about the gameplay section as it stands are much appreciated, seeing as I've had a go at reordering and cutting the contents in an attempt to streamline the text's perception, yet the length of the present rendition still rubs me the wrong way even after the edits, prompting the question of further downsizing. A particular issue lies with the last paragraph (mostly reshuffled text taken from the version 1034761164) whose content overlaps partly with the image caption within the section, leading to a dilemma between keeping and killing it.
    • Moreover, it would be useful to hear an opinion on whether to include stuff about the gameplay adjustments from the PS3 re-release, as, minor though they are, they still affect the pace and the goals of the gameplay.
  • Continuing from the last general comment, the story section at present seems a bit too broad with the perfunctory details, even with the recent rewrites and trimming. Holdover things in the characters segment like the repeated mention of Emon and the colossi's description that partly overlaps with the gameplay section, as well as the whole Connections to Ico subsection seem to undermine the flow of the prose, so giving a piece of your mind about a possible workaround would be appeciated. With the Ico subsection, I'd suggest incorporating it into the development section, however, I would also like to know your thoughts on the matter.
    • Specifically, the actual plot description bears modifying, as a good part of it goes unsourced and things like "After fleeing with the bridge connecting to the temple collapsing behind them, forever isolating ... ", the uncalled-for prognostic voice in the bit "At the last second when it seems he will not make it ... ", as well as the repeated description of Wander's growing possession by the Dormin disrupt the readability and authority of the text.
  • The development section, which I've not yet gotten around to modifying, seems to be the primary problem area as it's a bit of a hodgepodge at the moment.
    • Per User:David Fuchs' comments on the WP:FAR page, the section's organization is all over the place and it raises points about the re-releases and the remake ahead of discussing the reception of the mainline game, and I would add that the underlying logic of the fifth paragraph is not very strong (how exactly is the game's "lonely hero" philosophy tied to high-dynamic range rendering?).
    • The first paragraph breeds confusion when contrasted with the story section's Connections to Ico segment (1. Ueda says that SOTC is a spiritual sequel; 2. No, Ueda never wanted a sequel to Ico!), not to mention that the end sentence goes unsourced.
    • The third paragraph talks about how the colossi were the central point of the game design, which is at odds with the fact that it mentions the visual presentation in the starting sentence, given that the rest of the paragraph doesn't have a single word about that topic. Perhaps adding a new paragraph about the visuals partly derived from the fifth para of the current rendition would help to resolve this thematic mix-up.
    • Refs 51 and 55 placed in this section seem questionable even after all the source cleanup done by yours truly, yet finding a replacement source proved to be a challenge, as it appears that the cited quotes only feature in the aforementioned (disputable) interviews. Would like a helping hand with this one.
    • The PS3 remaster should be given its own subsection, methinks, or merged with the info about the PAL reissue into a new section, organized to account for WP:FAR comments. Moreover, I have reservations about including stuff about the remake in the section, seeing as there's another article that could talk about that aspect in detail.
    • The music subsection seems a tad short for discussing such an iconic game soundtrack. So far I've been unable to find new sources to improve its coverage, since the tidbits on that topic seem to lie mostly beyond the language barrier. Your opinion regarding the matter would be welcome.
  • The reception section too seems wanting in its content and coverage.
    • The first paragraph of the critical reception section seems to just cite the game's well-reviewed aspects with no rhyme or reason, going from the presentation to the overall quality, following that with thematic depth and ending at the cutscene direction. The positive reviews just follow one another at random, and a remodelling of the section that would devote individual paragraphs to the praised features of the game seems to like a valid course of action towards improvement. By contrast, the para detailing the negative reviews seems to be more cohesive in its writing.
    • Would like a piece of your mind about whether this section could use an expansion as regards the addition of "video games as art" claims, as this is a major facet of the game's reputation yet only gets a mention in the lede, something that stated to be at fault with WP:LEADCITE over at the review page.
    • Not a word about the PS3 rerelease features in the section, something that bears adding to provide continuity with its mention in the previous section. I've been gathering the press materials about the remaster over the last couple of days (mostly newspaper reviews), so ping me if you're interested.
    • Thoughts about the organization of the awards subsection would be helpful, given the example of FAs as Halo: Reach that feature a list of accolades instead of plain text, so it's a dillema whether to adopt that format or to condense the current rendition of the subsection so as to simplify the prose flow.
  • If anything, the legacy section seems to be the right place for including a mention of the remake, provided that the aforementioned point about the necessity of the topic is resolved in favor of its inclusion.

These are my considerations about the article at the moment. If you need research materials or have any further questions, don't hesitate to give your feedback. Looking forward to your comments and/or suggestions. Electroguv (talk) 13:28, 24 August 2021 (UTC)

Hi there @Electroguv:, thanks for all the commnents. Sorry for the belated response, though I do not 100% signing up for the the FAR (IIRC I think I said what help would be needed?). Though I am willing to help to an extent though I do not know how much time I will be able to divest to the project especially as I do plan to be a bit busier over the next couple of weeks. I will have another read through I see what I can do. Regards  Spy-cicle💥  Talk? 15:39, 31 August 2021 (UTC)
Hey, thanks for the reply! My ping at the FAR page was more thinking aloud about consulting with somebody to get down the complete idea of an article overhaul as opposed to shoehorning a rallying cry for full-blown commitment, so this is a no-strings-attached kind of thing as far as I'm concerned. As such, any feedback and input would be welcome should you be willing to find a window of opportunity, so it's really about attending to the project as time affords. By the way, your last batch of streamlining revisions are much appreciated. Looking forward to further cooperation. Electroguv (talk) 14:46, 1 September 2021 (UTC)

If the article has not already appeared on the main page as a "Did you know" item, or as a bold link under "In the News" or in the "On This Day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear in DYK. ITN recognition for John Challis

On 26 September 2021, In the news was updated with an item that involved the article John Challis, which you updated. If you know of another recently created or updated article suitable for inclusion in ITN, please suggest it on the candidates page. Martinevans123 (talk) 09:18, 29 September 2021 (UTC)

Thanks @Martinevans123: Glad I could help towards that article and it ended up appearing at RD. I was not able to do as much work on it as I would have liked (not as much free time as I had with the Ritter and Lock RDs). Thanks also for your nomination and contributions to the article. Regards  Spy-cicle💥  Talk? 18:38, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
You are very welcome. I'm only sorry I forgot to add you and Kudpung on before it got posted (which was a bit of a last minute rush...) I sometimes wish that !voting at ITN required a minimum of three edits to the nominated article, especially for the nay-sayers who habitually drop by just to say "not good enough"! But, of course, more bureaucracy is the last thing that anyone needs! Martinevans123 (talk) 20:09, 29 September 2021 (UTC)

FWIW

In reverting my attempts to bring consistency to the US presidents bio articles, who died in office, you missed one. BTW - I left W.Harrison & Garfield alone, as they died in their first year in office. GoodDay (talk) 18:31, 3 October 2021 (UTC)

@GoodDay: Hi there, I reverted them because after looking at the result of the RfC on the JFK page, it appears it only applies to that page only. Though, you are welcome to correct me if I am wrong. Regards  Spy-cicle💥  Talk? 18:32, 3 October 2021 (UTC)
Correction: You did revert all five bios articles. FWIW, I commented at the JFK article, right under the closed RFC. Maybe, clarification will be given there. GoodDay (talk) 18:35, 3 October 2021 (UTC)

Non-free rationale for File:GTA Trilogy remaster.png

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:GTA Trilogy remaster.png. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F6 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — JJMC89(T·C) 21:35, 8 October 2021 (UTC)

Hello, Spy-cicle. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Other primary characters on Futurama".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been deleted. If you plan on working on it further and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. Liz Read! Talk! 18:56, 19 October 2021 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Zuby

If these are fixed within 7 days, the article will pass; otherwise it may fail. See Talk:Zuby for issues which need to be addressed. WhoOPs!

Sorry for reverting this edit the first time around. Seems like I got character size and byte size confused. While I'm here, how were you able to determine the page was 28,462 characters long? Is there some tool that calculates it that I'm unaware of? Panini!🥪 18:21, 16 November 2021 (UTC)

@Panini!:|No worries, I understand when rewriting articles it is sometimes easy to accidentally overwrite a previous edit during an edit conflict (or rewriting an older version). To answer your question, yes. The tool can be accessed on the "View history" section, then clicking on the "Page statistics" link which details the number of characters (as well as other data) [2]. Also, in respect to the lead and comparing it this [3] and trying to meet MOS:LEAD (larger sections should be detailed more in the lead, etc), the development info in the lead should probably be slightly longer and the COVID info/legacy should be trimmed. Either way, congrats on the GA. Regards  Spy-cicle💥  Talk? 19:28, 16 November 2021 (UTC)

GA Review of Zuby

Hi. I'm looking at Zuby, and I've noticed very few changes made since I started my review. Do you have plans to modify the article content in line with the review? It's been on hold for just over a week now, so I'd like to know if I should keep it on hold or if I should fail the GA review and allow for it to be resubmitted later. Please let me know what your plans are over the next day or so, so that I can close the GA review if there are no immediate plans to fix up the article. — Mikehawk10 (talk) 01:14, 17 November 2021 (UTC)

@Mikehawk10: Hi there. Yes I am planning on adjusting the article so it can meet the criteria and I am still trying to search if more detailed sources surrounding his music can be found. Regards  Spy-cicle💥  Talk? 18:30, 17 November 2021 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Pagan Min (disambiguation) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G14 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a disambiguation page which either

  • disambiguates only one extant Wikipedia page and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic);
  • disambiguates zero extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title; or
  • is an orphaned redirect with a title ending in "(disambiguation)" that does not target a disambiguation page or page that has a disambiguation-like function.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Your revert on 2016 Sleaford and North Hykeham by-election

You wrote in your edit summary "not sure how removing the lead image is an improvement." I wrote in my earlier edit summary "the "no image available" graphics seem unprofessional, and having only one image is odd..." So, that's how it's an improvement. I'm not gonna fight on this, but consider my rationale. schetm (talk) 17:26, 11 December 2021 (UTC)

I saw it. Personally I do not see why having one image is odd, we have many, many images on Wiki in which the lead image is just one. The only reason we cannot have more for the other candidates is becuase no such approriate licened images exist for them. Regards  Spy-cicle💥  Talk? 22:47, 11 December 2021 (UTC)
