I appreciate your work so far, however we don't remove valid references like those in the lede in the Ettinger article. While I agree the claim was over exaggerated - and the rhetoric was somewhat over the top - and needed changing, modifying, editing etc. We edit - we make clear - we don't erase references. Regarding your statement - I've carefully reviewed the references and I don't see anything that supports that claim. I believe they're invalid references. - They are valid references regarding Ettinger as a notable figure; although they do not support the claim - (agreed) then remove the claim, we don't throw the baby out with the bathwater...Modernist (talk) 04:13, 30 November 2013 (UTC)

thank you for your help and sorry for my mistake. I came in late 2014 to Wikipedia and a few days ago to the English Wikipedia, so a lot of errors will accompany my way through this new world. Your edit on the List of Notable fiber artists

I'm curious Mduvekot why you removed yarnbomber, Stephen Duneier from your list of notable fiber artists. Although he has not had any exhibits in museums, his work is represented by the very well regarded American art gallery (Sullivan Goss), he has broken new ground in the art form and his work has been recognized by major publications around the world, including Newsweek and ArtNews Magazine, the most widely circulated art related publication, not to mention the US Forest Service and even McDonald's. @M1ndful1s: I reverted the edit because I didn't think Duneier is seen as a major figure in Fibre art by any art historical or critical sources. I think that the list that is currently there could be improved. The approach we took at List of contemporary artists might work for Fibre art as well. Hi there, I noticed User:Mduvekot/sandbox/feminism museum surveys (which really isn't an article draft but a sandbox) and was wondering if you would consider moving it to a subpage like those at Wikipedia:WikiProject Women artists/Worklist. I'd not exactly sure what the scope of your list is (looks like feminist artists based on museums) but just a suggestion. Your page isn't likely to be deleted as it is but over the years, I've seen a number of these kinds of potential article lists where the individual who created them stopped editing or whatever and the list falls hidden where no one can find them. The advantage of putting it in the artists page is that you're likely to find like-minded individuals who may also get interested and help. I just went back and did some more research. I did identify four articles, after all, that now I feel suffice to call for a referral to AFD, and I regret being so hasty, since I normally A7 articles not only based on their own content but also after conducting my own notability spot-check. I still feel the article itself didn't convey her significance, saying little more than "This person is a curator and an artist." The Source is listed at WP:RSMUSIC. If you want to overturn or question that, I suggest you go to WP:RSN and take it up there, because until then, it is recommended as a source for music. Besides, you evidently didn't read much about it. It has been around since the 1980s as a print magazine; the website was spun off of the print publication. It is neither a blog nor is it hosted on Wordpress. Its owner may be noted as "The Northstar Group", which links to an apparent Wordpress blog of said company in the footer of The Source's website, but that doesn't make The Source itself a blog. Also, please avoid templating me in future. I have a note at the top of my talk page that I do not wish to be sent template notices. Regardless of whether they are automatic or not, you should assess who created a page: I started neither of the content on the articles you sent me template messages on "ways to improve". Atsme, Thanks, yes, I have already reverted it. I have a tablet with a very sensitive pen tip that made a super-fast double click. That created an edit conflict with myself, which I tried to solve by re-posting, without noticing immediately that I had already submitted it. Now I'm going to try to fix the stylus. Hi Vexations ! Hope you are well, thank you for your careful edits of my work, your guidances is much appreciated. I just started to contribute to Wikipedia a few weeks ago and discovered it is an extremely fun way to pass the time in Quarantine. I want to apologize for any mistakes I have made thus far, working my hardest to curtail them. In reference to the page I am working on for the artist Ser Serpas, I see you deleted a large chunk of quoted text for copy right concerns, I just wanted to let you know that the page is/was very much still in progress and I had placed that text there just as notes I intended to draw from later on. I was under the misconception that I had until I submitted the page for review to clean up that kind of scratch-work, and further misunderstood that even though I had not yet submitted the page for review it was somehow not designated as a draft. I say this only because while in that specific instance I am confident I had not yet made mishandled the copyrighted material as I had yet to engage with it, I really value your comment because after re-familiarizing myself with the copyright information you linked in my talk space, I have a few concerns about citations in my other pages that I want to nip in the but before I screw up. I just want to reiterate that I am super grateful for your kind offer to field a question or two. To get right into it, I am working on a page on an artist where I intended to conclude every section on each of their exhibitions and artworks with extensive quotations from a few reviews and essays, published in Artforum, Frieze Magazine, and Flash Art Magazine. Understanding that these materials qualify as non-free content, I started to have pause about my previous strategy. If executed in the way I had initially planned, these quotations would of course be contextualized and broken down appropriately so as to be the most useful to readers as they can be. But while I have not yet finished the process of making those edits, I think, or thought, I was pretty close, however the quotations are still long, with the longest filling three full lines. I wanted to ask what you suggest might be the best way solution to the situation I have gotten myself into here... I was previously of the belief that the quotes included crucial information that illuminated the relevance of the work helping me establish WP:ARTIST's first two points, "1. The person is regarded as an important figure or is widely cited by peers or successors. 2. The person is known for originating a significant new concept, theory, or technique," but now knowing such extensive quoting might infringe on copyright, I was considering just deleting them almost entirely, or editing them down to the briefest versions of the arguments possible. Hi Homogestalt, yeah, what we do with submitting and accepting and reviewing can be confusing. The first thing to know is that Articles for Creation is only mandatory for users with a conflict of interest and editors who have no account or a very new account. You need to become autoconfirmed before you can create a new article in mainspace (or article space as some of us call it). You can choose not to use AfC and create an article directly into article space. (you have the autoconfirmed user right Special:UserRights/Homogestalt. Now that you have Draft:Ser_Serpas, don't copy it, but either submit it for review (which can take a long time) or move it yourself (which may look suspicious) or ask me to move it for you. I do both AfC and NPP reviews. I have added a template that lets you submit it for review when you think it's ready. When a new article appears in the Special:NewPagesFeed, a WP:NPP reviewer will make a look at it to see if it is suitable for inclusion and may make suggestions for improvement. At that point, text from a copyrighted source must be removed immediately (See Wikipedia:Copyright violations. My advice for dealing with copyrighted sources is to never even include it in the source of an article, not even before saving a draft: I've made that mistake myself and regretted it immediately when I forgot to paraphrase something. Instead, choose a couple of good sources that you're going to use for the bulk of the article. Separate the ones that are just to confirm factual things like place of birth and education, collections etc. Avoid interviews, except for such factoids. For Serpas, the best ones, I think, are https://www.frieze.com/article/shows-see-around-town-during-frieze-new-york-guide and https://www.artforum.com/picks/quinn-harrelson-current-projects-74185. I have to say, I always find articles about emerging artists problematic. While it is can be argued that Serpas has received significant coverage in independent, reliable sources and therefore meets our general notability guideline, the WP:GNG, their body of work is limited, often not fully developed and having an encyclopedia article can overwhelm any other publication on the internet. It is invariably going to show up first on search results and drown out everything else. It's not necessarily a good thing. Gråbergs Gråa Sång, thanks. I suspect it may be possible to fix the sourcing issues at Benji Reid. Either that, or just rip out the WP:OR. After seeing the Černý, I wonder: Do we need a new category, Category:Penises in art? And why is Penis Landscape in the category Vagina and vulva in art? Gråbergs Gråa Sång, I always thought it was the preferred term among art historians, but I now see that the term has been deprecated [1]. I'm a bit reticent about using vagina, because lots of peoplemen don't seem to know the difference between a vulva and a vagina. I also just noted that the Art & Architecture Thesaurus prefers phalluses to phalli.[2] and doesn't offer a female equivalent. Per the art historians, apparently, phalluses in art are a thing, but vulvas aren't. Wikipedia has it backwards.

What a joke

Jeez, I half-thought while glancing at Draft:Zae Ulrich (Zaeart) shortly before going to bed, this thing is so bad it's a joke. So I "declined" it. But now that I wake up, see your comment, and glance at the concoction with a refreshed brain, I really wonder: Yes, this is peculiarly bad (e.g. the writer seems only to have a shaky notion of what sentences are); perhaps it is just somebody's joke. Rejection might be in order. ¶ Incidentally, I seem to have arrived here amid a spirited conversation. Hoary, I think you're fine. As for Zae, it should be pretty obvious that the only kind of "endorsement" you can get from a major museum is an exhibition or the purchase of a work. It reminds me of an intercultural problem that Dutch people (I'm Dutch) sometimes face when they say that something that is proposed to them is "interesting". What they mean is "this is nuts, but I'm trying to politely decline". That isn't always understood in the way it was intended. Vexations (talk) 00:10, 17 August 2021 (UTC)

Does de facto ban mean abortions are still taking place?

Because the are still taking place and it is incredibly irresponsible to misrepresent that fact. I do understand to some degree, after all we had fascism defined with no militaristic component elsewhere at some point or not fascism and here we have a ban that's not really a ban. If there wasn't so much hatred for women, maybe there wouldn't be a campaign misinforming them of their abortion options in Texas. Welcome to the twentieth newsletter from the Growth team!

The Growth team's objective is to work on software changes that help retain new contributors in Wikimedia projects.

Suggested edits

As of February, 300,000 suggested edits have been completed since the feature was first deployed in December 2019.

Add a link is the team's first structured task, deployed in May 2021. It has improved outcomes for newcomers. The team is now working on a second iteration based on community feedback and data analysis. Improvements will include: improved algorithmic suggestions, guardrails to prevent too many similar links to be added, and clearer encouragement for users to continue making edits. After adding these improvements, we will deploy this task to more Wikipedias.

Add an image is the second structured task built by our team. It was deployed in November 2021 to four pilot Wikipedias. This is a more challenging task for newcomers. However, it adds more value to articles (so far, over 1,000 images have been added). We are currently learning from communities and from the data on what is working well and what needs improvements. The project page contains links to interactive prototypes. We are very interested to hear your thoughts on this idea as we build and test the early versions. We will soon deploy this task to more Wikipedias as a test.

"Add a link" and "Add an image" now both have a limitation on how many of these tasks newcomers can do per day. It is meant to discourage careless newcomers from making too many problematic edits.

Positive reinforcement

Over the last two years, the Growth team has focused on building suggested edits: easy tasks for newcomers to start with. We have learned with this experience that these tasks help many newcomers to make their first edits. Now, the team is starting a new project : "positive reinforcement". Its goal is to make newcomers proud of their editing and to make them want to come back for more of them. With the positive reinforcement project, we are considering three kinds of features:

  • Impact stats: give newcomers the ability to see how many people read the articles they edit.
  • Leveling up: encourage newcomers to progress from easier tasks to harder tasks.
  • Personalized praise: encourage mentors and other editors to "thank" and award newcomers for good work.

This project is just beginning, and we hope for community thoughts on the direction. We know that things can wrong if we offer the wrong incentives to newcomers, so we want to be careful. Please visit the talk page to help guide the project!

News for mentors

  • The mentor dashboard is available at all wikis. It helps mentors see who their mentees are and keep track of their activity. It is automatically activated where a list of mentors has been created. If you need assistance to create a list of mentors, please contact us.
  • The mentor dashboard has a new module: settings. It is now possible for mentors to define their status (active or away). They can specify the volume of questions they want to receive, and they can claim mentees in an easier way. It is also possible for mentors to quit, which will automatically reassign their mentees to other mentors.
  • We are working on an ability for a mentee to opt-out (and back in) to having a mentor.
  • Previously, in the table that displays mentees activity, the filters displayed all mentees, even the ones with zero edits or lots of edits. We have changed this so that only mentees with between 1 and 500 edits are visible by default. Mentors can change this value in their filters.
  • We are currently working on a special page for mentors to sign-up.

Some wikis have created userboxes that mentors can display on the user pages. If your wiki has one, please link it to Wikidata!

Scaling

Previously, at most Wikipedias, only 80% of newcomers were getting the Growth features. This was done for experimentation, to have a control group. We have changed this setting. Now 100% of new accounts at all Wikipedias get the Growth features (except a few, kept as test wikis). We invite communities to update their onboarding documentation and tutorials. Please include the Growth features in it. To help you, we have created an help page that can be translated and adapted to your wiki.
