The western yellow robin (Eopsaltria griseogularis) is a species of bird in the Australasian robin family Petroicidae. Described by John Gould in 1838, the western yellow robin and its Australian relatives are not closely related to either the European or American robins, but appear to be an early offshoot of the Passerida group of songbirds. Ranging between 13.5 and 15.5 cm (5 ¹⁄₄ and 6 in) long, both sexes have grey upperparts and a grey breast and head, broken by whitish streaks near the bill and below the eye, with a conspicuous yellow belly. The species inhabits open eucalypt forest, woodland and scrub, generally favouring habitats with significant understory. Its range comprises the Southwest of Western Australia, the state's southern coastline, and the Eyre Peninsula in South Australia. Predominantly insectivorous, the western yellow robin pounces on prey from a low branch, or forages on the ground. The species has declined in parts of its range, but is not threatened. Explosion on HMS Bulwark

1842 – The University of Notre Dame was founded by Edward Sorin, of the Congregation of Holy Cross, as an all-male institution in the U.S. state of Indiana.
1914 – A large internal explosion (pictured) destroyed HMS Bulwark near Sheerness, killing 741 people on board.
1940 – The Iron Guard killed 64 political detainees at a penitentiary near Bucharest and followed up with several high-profile assassinations, including that of former Romanian prime minister Nicolae Iorga.
1977 – A speaker claiming to represent the "Intergalactic Association" interrupted a Southern Television broadcast in South East England.

Jérusalem is a grand opera in four acts by Giuseppe Verdi, first performed at the Salle Le Peletier in Paris on 26 November 1847. The libretto was a partial translation of the composer's 1843 Italian opera, I Lombardi alla prima crociata, adapted for performance in France. This lithograph shows Gilbert Duprez as Gaston in the premiere of Jérusalem; Adolphe-Joseph-Louis Alizard played the role of Roger. The latter is jealous of Gaston and organises his murder, the wrong man is attacked because he has given away his white cloak, Gaston is exiled as the alleged perpetrator, and all depart to fight in the First Crusade to liberate Jerusalem.
