Checking a Good Article
I noticed that 2015 MFF Charity Cup was just created, and it was created with the {{good article}} template that marks it as a "Good article". I will remove that, but it raises the question: is there a way to conform whether an article really is a GA?Gronk Oz (talk) 09:06, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
- Greetings, Gronk Oz. All articles listed as good articles should have a link on the talk page to a good article review; for instance, see this talk page. Even if the bot made some errors in transclusion, there should definitely be a review page, which should have the title "Talk:Article title/GA1" or a different number if there has been more than one review. If the review page cannot be found, there is definitely something wrong, even if it's only a clerical error, and so posting a question at Wikipedia talk:Good article nominations would be the right thing to do. Hope that helps. Regards, Vanamonde93 (talk) 10:50, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
- That is exactly what I needed - thanks, Vanamonde93. --Gronk Oz (talk) 11:02, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
Creating The Flash (2014 TV series) solo episode articles!
Hello! I am a great fan of The Flash (2014 TV series) and I would like to, everyday, make articles on even single episodes, I will certainly write the plot, should I do it? I am an amateur and you can visit the pages I have created, please suggest me should I create articles on each The Flash episode? You can visit pages that I have created at Spooks Nightmare, The Spook's Destiny, please reply!HighnessAtharva (talk) 08:52, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
- HighnessAtharva, Greetings! Thanks for your enthusiasm for creating new articles. All new articles on Wikipedia need to meet our guidelines for notability; the relevant guidelines for Television episodes can be found at Wikipedia:Television episodes. As that page says, individual episodes are rarely notable, because it is rare for a single episode to get significant coverage in reliable, secondary sources. If you can find such coverage for an individual episode, by all means go ahead and create a page; but I suggest holding off on mass-creating a page for every episode. If you are really looking to create new articles, here are some places you could look; Wikipedia:Most-wanted articles, Wikipedia:Requested articles, and Wikipedia:WikiProject Women/Women in Red. Regards, Vanamonde93 (talk) 10:59, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot for the suggestion, I will try to make the episode summary brief instead of making another article, I like the series but i thought that if it would be noticeable HighnessAtharva (talk) 12:14, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
Does WIkipedia allow Quotes article?
I want to create an article on he hobbit quotes, can this article be eligible to be published on Wikipedia? Please guide me. HighnessAtharva (talk) 12:26, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
- Hello, HighnessAtharva, and welcome to the Teahouse. Wikipedia articles can certainly contain quotes (see Wikipedia:Quotations on this), but if I understand you correctly, you want to create a list of quotes from The Hobbit. That wouldn't be suitable for Wikipedia, but you could try Wikiquote instead. Cordless Larry (talk) 12:29, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
- Thnx a lot Larry, I will try something on WIKIQUOTE! A good place for me too. Don't worry, I'll be on Wikipedia too ! Ha Ha! Thnx a lot!HighnessAtharva (talk) 12:31, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
Creating The last Goodbye, the hobbit ending song!
Hello, again. I need to create an article about the song 'The Last Goodbye' by Billy Boyd from the Hobbit: A Battle of Five Armies, this is a very good song, so please visit the page and try to edit it. Also can anyone tell me how to upload an audio of the song on the page, I really want to add this song on wikipedia page. Thnx! Please edit this article and guide me!HighnessAtharva (talk) 13:27, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
- Hello, HighnessAtharva. Your enthusiasm for creating articles is great, but please please please read Your first article and WP:42. Articles in Wikipedia do not exist just because you or I think the subject is great, but also because several people unconnected with the subject have already written about the subject and had their writing published - that is what we mean by "notable". The fact that you have created The Last Goodbye (Hobbit Song) without any references suggests that you have not yet researched to find references, and therefore you do not know whether it is notable. For creating an article, you should always start by finding independent reliable published sources for it, so that if you cannot find any, you will know there is no point in spending any time on the article. (Note - I have not looked for sources either, so it is possible that the song is notable; but I doubt it).
- Another thing to remember is that Wikipedia is not interested in what you (or I) think about the song, or any other subject: it is only interested in what people unconnected with it have published about it. For that reason, a Wikipedia article should never describe anything as "emotional" or "melodious" (for example) unless is it directly quoting a published independent source.
- As for your last question: it is very rarely appropriate to upload a song for Wikipedia, because it is almost certainly not possible to find a version that is free of copyright. It is also not appropriate: the song itself is not usually encyclopaedic.
- Finally, I would strongly advise you to use the Article Wizard for any future articles you create, and so create them in draft space where they can be reviewed before being moved to main space. --ColinFine (talk) 16:05, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
Witch Redirects #Witchcraft?????????????????/
The Article Witch redirects # Witchcraft, I mean, these are two similar yet different characters. So i think a new article should be made on WITCHES, someone please make an article or tell me! I will make an initiative. But is there any need to make a new article? And how will i get other users to edit if I make an article!!! Please guide HighnessAtharva (talk) 13:20, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
You could start making a article in your sandbox, and when you think it is good enough send it in for Articles for Creation. SamBrown98121 (talk) 15:11, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
- Please note that witchcraft is not a character but a practice. A witch is someone who practices witchcraft. Both topics are covered to some extent in Witchcraft. Before creating a new article on this topic make sure it addresses something that's not already mentioned in "Witchcraft". -- Chamith (talk) 18:20, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
Another question about sourcing
What about articles from chinafile.com, it's an online information source written by the Asia society. ThanksNotgoingtotellyou (talk) 18:50, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
- Hi, Notgoingtotellyou. On a quick look, I would say it is probably reliable. But WP:RSN is the best place to ask this kind of question. Note that reliability is not a straight yes-no: if may depend on what information you are wanting to take from a source and how you want to use it. --ColinFine (talk) 21:21, 27 December 2015 (UTC)

Who do I contact to ask why media was deleted.
It was recently brought to my attention that the photograph of my Great great grandfather (John Richardson Wigham), as displayed on his Wikipedia page, wasn't actually of him. I located the original source of the image, a website called picturehistory.com, to inform them of this error. picturehistory.com never returned my emails. I then proceeded to remove this incorrect image and upload an image of him that I know to be correct. However, the image I uploaded has been deleted and cannot be uploaded again. Why?AnnaLehane (talk) 14:20, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
- Hi AnnaLehane the file you added File:John R. Wigham.jpg was added over on WikiMedia Commons which is a sister project but not the same as English Wikipedia. You had notifications of the issue on your talk page over there commons:User talk:AnnaLehane. All images at the Commons must bear a suitably free copyright license or be copyright free, and the relevant information added to show the valid source. If you read those notifications they will give you more information. I believe by default you do not get email notifications on commons so you may wish to enable here. Also while I'm looking at this please be careful when editing - this edit removed the complete infobox when I assume you meant to just remove the image. Regards KylieTastic (talk) 15:09, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
- Hi AnnaLehane to add more the original file File:John_Richardson_Wigham.jpg was actual linked to a source of this which is now a different image on the "United States Lighthouse Society" website - the other site may have copied for them or commons. They have this page now for him - is this the correct image? Note you can not just upload this either as it is on a copyrighted page. Cheers KylieTastic (talk) 15:15, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons uses [Creative Commons] licenses. If you took the picture or had permission, it should stay uploaded. If you still have the same problem, tell me. Hope this helps SamBrown98121 (talk) 15:06, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
- (e/c) Hi AnnaLehane. The picture you uploaded to the sister site, Wikimedia Commons, was deleted based on the reasons stated in the notice about it posted to your user talk page there: Commons:User talk:AnnaLehane#File source is not properly indicated: File:John R. Wigham.jpg. Though I can't actually see what information you did provide and/or what license you gave, it was considered deficient. The image remained for nine days after you were given the notice on December 6th for you to take care of the issue, and then was deleted on December 15th, which you can see here. As far as I can tell, your account at the Commons is not blocked or disabled from uploading, so I'm not sure what you mean when you say the image "cannot be uploaded again". If you do re-upload, you need to carefully supply information on the manner you own the copyright to the image and what free license you're giving it if you own it. The notice at the linked talk page has some information about this and links to explanatory pages. Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 15:17, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
- Here are a few things to think about, AnnaLehane. He died in 1906. If the photo was published in a book, newspaper or magazine during his life or around the time of his death, then copyright has expired, and it should be perfectly OK for Commons. If it was never published and just kept framed or in a family album, and you inherited the original photo yourself, then you own the copyright which starts when it is first published and can freely license it on Wikimedia Commons. If ownership is unclear, then perhaps it can be uploaded here on English Wikipedia as an acceptable non-free image under WP:NFCI #10, for use only in that one article. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 21:38, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
Re Alex Kersey-Brown's Birth date and birthdate is 18th Nov 1940 registered 1941 so could not have been born a year later. This wrong date has upset close members of his family. His death date is 4.0 am 24th November 2015.
Please can you correct these mistakes. I have Mac Kersey-Brown with the additional Alexander as his christening name later in 1941. He could not have been born in 1942 if registered in 1941. I can supply his birth certificate. Cynthia14 Cynthia14 (talk) 08:39, 24 December 2015 (UTC)
- How could he have been 73 when he died (as widely reported) if he was born in 1940? Wikipedia just reports what is published elsewhere. There is some evidence that the press have got the wrong age. Can you point us to a reliable published source that reports the true date of birth? Also, the date of death is reported as Monday, November 23rd by Wales Rugby League. Was this report premature? Verifying DynamoDegsy's research into official fact finding searches.
Can the statements made by DynamoDegsy in blue be accepted as they are correct. He has looked up all the facts from official sources about Alex Kersey-Brown, who died of cancer on the morning of 24th November 2015. He was born 18th November 1940 during an air raid in Bristol, and the registration took place early in the year 1941 /Qtr 1st/ Vol 6A/ pAGE 236/ so could not have possible have been born in 1942. I made a mistake in the spelling of Yeovil which is where Alex Kersey-Brown was cremated but his date of birth shown there was incorrect. His brother Edward Kersey-Brown with daughter Kristina (also mentioned by DynamoDegsy,) was present and said to me that the date of birth was wrong and was 1940, which I knew already. I met Alex the day before his 23rd birthday, and spoke to him, on the day before when he was still 22 years old 17th November 1962, and then the next day the 18th November 1962 he told me he was 23 years old. His father Edward Sydney Kersey-Brown, was born on the 19th November 1911. That is why it is so clear in my mind. Another matter was Alex's weight when he worked for Huddersfield Rugby League Football Club: he was 15 stone, which might be unusual but it is true. He told me he was an Army Boxing Champion at that weight and when fully fit was solid muscle at 6 foot 3 inches. When I watched my first rugby match and the only person watching when Alex played for London Scottish in the 2nd Team I watched him get try after try. Why would the Captain not let Alex join the First team? He left and joined the London Welsh Rugby Football Club at Old Deer Park, next to Kew Gardens. This last year 2015, an amazing Melanesian rugby player called Jonah, who was 18 stone, scored an amazing try, during an important match, so these things happen. I have printed out DynamoDegsy's words so I could follow them while I typed this out.13:27,24 November 2015 (UTC). All he wrote is true. Thank you DynamoDegsy. From Cynthia14Cynthia14 (talk) 23:13, 25 December 2015 (UTC)
- The information in official records (see Talk:Alex Kersey-Brown for anyone who has not been following this) seems definitive, but one wonders what publicity machine released the wrong information to the press. Unfortunately, personal testimony is not considered appropriate as a Wikipedia source (not that we are doubting you, but sometimes people on the internet are not who they claim to be, so we have a policy). It would be good if someone could find an article published in a reliable source that gets it right, then we can tidy up the Wikipedia article. Dbfirs 21:40, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
First Addition/Edit ... Are Minor Edits On The Order Of Others Previous Entries Acceptable?
Hi, I added information to an article recently and while reading it found a few of the sentences out of their cited dates order and confusing. Can I do a minor edit/change the order of those sentences(not the text itself)for continuity? Ref.article "Robert Goulet". Thanks, Lee S. Leesha1958 (talk) 01:13, 28 December 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Leesha1958, if you're talking about the accessdates on the refs not being in chronological order, I don't think so. The accessdate doesn't matter at all and has almost nothing to do with the reference or the contents of the article. It's merely the day somebody went on a site or read a book and rewrote the info therein for Wikipedia. We don't care what day the info was accessed; we just care it was accessed.
- On the other hand, if you're talking about content in the article being out of chronological order, then go ahead and put it in the correct order. White Arabian Filly (Neigh) 01:38, 28 December 2015 (UTC)
New user needs guidance
Mr.RcD10, a new user, has been editing Ingress (video game), a page which I have put and continue to put a lot of work into. He edits in good faith but is quite ignorant of Wikipedia formatting, and probably WP almost everything else. He has no user page, and I created his talk page to discuss some of his edits. His first contribution was made 19:16, 25 December 2015, just two days ago.
He needs a welcome and some guidance, which I'm not prepared to provide, though I have greeted him and given a couple of basic pointers. I hope some experienced editor can give him some more specific mentoring.
Please {{Ping}} me to discuss. --Thnidu (talk) 02:26, 28 December 2015 (UTC)
New Article to be Deleted!
I just created an article Zodiac Braveheart, a charachter from the Darkblade Chronicles Series.Hello and Welcome, I know that this articles is of an unnoticeable charachter from an unpublished book, but the news says that it will be published soon, I can send you an extract of this book, please don't try to delete this article for I need to create about thirty to thirty five articles about the Darkblade Chronicles series, about its characters and places and the plot and the book series, I will try to explain it, please ask more questions here, if you want! I will surely add the links and references and the citations and wiki-links, i'm a beginner so I just need some time, I am really a fan of this book series, please don't delete this as this book, when in market will be a very good project. Better done before than later! Thanks!04:02, 28 December 2015 (UTC)
- Hello, HighnessAtharva. I think you will find that it is too soon to write about these characters. Remember that Wikipedia only contains articles which are already well covered by independent, reliable sources. Characters in an unpublished book will not generally meet that standard, at least not yet. There is no urgency to get this into Wikipedia; it can wait until the references are there to support its notability. I appreciate how keen you are, but I can't write an article about a topic just because I feel strongly about it; first I have to show that it is notable by providing the references. It's all about the references. I suggest you read carefully the comments at Talk:Zodiac Braveheart about writing articles on fiction; Animalparty gave excellent advice in his comments. I would hate to see you spend your time and energy writing an article which may not meet the notability requirements, and so could end up being deleted. We are all here to help you; you have so much to offer that we would all benefit by channelling it where it will build articles that last.--Gronk Oz (talk) 05:03, 28 December 2015 (UTC)

- Hi Gaurav kasotiya as Rapper gee rave has already been deleted I can't see the content to comment - However to avoid this issue I would suggest using Wikipedia:Articles for creation procedure starting with the Article wizard. For an article to exist on Wikipedia it generally needs to meet the Notability guidelines - in this case probably Wikipedia:Notability (music) and Wikipedia:Notability (people) to be more specific. Cheers KylieTastic (talk) 12:19, 28 December 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Gaurav kasotiya - just to add briefly to KylieTastic's excellent comments. The fact that it was speedily deleted due to WP:A7 concerns indicates that the article did not even make an assertion that this rapper was notable. Definitely take a look at the above links, and if you feel that the rapper meets the conditions of notability, then use the AfC process to get help in writing and formatting your article. Good luck. I reviewed Draft:Afnan' Rauf and declined it. I said that it was an unsourced biography of a living person, and read like a personal reflection rather than a neutral article, and, because it is an autobiography, its submission is discouraged due to conflict of interest. I then had an inquiry post to my talk page by User: Afnanrauf. Can some other experienced editor please either explain to the author why the submission of unsourced autobiographies written as personal reflections is not consistent with Wikipedia, or agree to work with the author to create a reasonable biography (if indeed the artist is notable), or explain to me why I was too harsh or cynical about autobiographies or why I should have accepted the draft? Can I hire someone to create a page for a friend who deserves his own spot on Wikipedia?
Hello! I'm interested in having someone create a page for the most decorated athlete of Ecuador, Mario Pons. The page would be in English. And there are quite a few references including world championship 1999 that didn't appear when I searched for him in Wikipedia. If you know anyone who is experienced in this, please send me their email so we can negotiate price and I can begin to forward the content and references. I know nothing about Wikipedia except I'm an end-user and use it frequently and I do make my annual donation. :-) Also, very appreciative of the volunteer work that you all do. Not sure how exactly to return to this thread on the message board. It might be easier if you don't hear back for me to any response you make, to send me an email as that way I will be able to respond.

Commander One - article for deletion
Hi again. Last week I posted about notice of my article Commander One for deletion. I made required changes and the notice was deleted. But, now again. It is again marked for deletion. Could you please help with this, I do not know what other changes to make there. Here is link to discussion https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Commander_OneDashaG11 (talk) 09:42, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
- There is a subtle difference between the two notices, DashaG11. The first was a proposed deletion, which would have resulted in the deletion of the article if it had remained unchallenged for seven days. The current notice is about a more detailed article for deletion discussion. The best thing to do is to read and engage in the discussion, which you linked to. Doing so will give you an idea of what (if anything) needs to be improved about the article for it to meet Wikipedia's requirements. Cordless Larry (talk) 09:53, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
- The !voting is running in favor of keeping the article. You may take part in the deletion discussion and may cast a single !vote for Keep. (Do not cast multiple !votes for Keep, using alternate accounts or IP addresses. Sock-puppetry is common in AFD, and AFD closers usually recognize sock-puppetry. I have created my first page having read all the guidelines, but for some reason the box appeared regarding speedy deletion and I dont know what I need to do. I have read and inserted citations, and weblinks, and created headers, and a reference guide, although I was not able to create a second and a third header. I clicked to create but nothing appeared. Please can you advice? Many thanks Savana (Bokassa Corrections) Bokassa Corrections (talk) 19:23, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
- Bokassa Corrections hello and welcome to The Teahouse. The lead should be above the table of contents and should not have its own heading. There is a place to click at the top of the page which might say "edit", but I'm not sure what it says for you if you have not set preferences, which most newcomers have not.
- In one place you use Wikipedia as a source. That is not allowed. If sources are provided in the Wikipedia article you cite, use those instead.
- Do not put external links in the article text itself. If they qualify for the "External links" section, put them there, and they should not only work but they should also be described. You have one possibly valid exteranl link in the text of one section with a description. And under "External links", don't put Wikipedia articles. Those are internal links and should go under the heading "See also". "Ghana" and other topics people might be interested in should also be linked to its Wikipedia aricle.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 20:02, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
- I thought that this was a hoax at first, given the racial connotations of the name, but I will comment in good faith, presuming that the organisation does exist and is serious. The problem is that the subject does not meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines, as a quick Google search demonstrates. Put simply, in order for an article to exist, we require significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the topic. Cordless Larry (talk) 20:30, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
The Wiki IRC
Just a quick question about the IRC, is this official wiki staff and trusted support staff, or just a user generated thing endorsed by wiki.

- I would be inclined to answer that they mean wiki pages maintained by the cabal, but since this is a new user, they might not understand the sarcasm of references to the cabal, when there is no cabal. Robert McClenon (talk) 20:37, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
New article
I have just created a page and I did something wrong. I moved the page, I mean I renamed it and now it has two different names. How can I do to delete this page? Melania22 (talk) 22:32, 28 December 2015 (UTC)
- Hello, Melania22, and welcome to the Teahouse. If you are the only significant contributor to the article, you can request its speedy deletion by adding the markup {{Db-author}} to the top of the page. Cordless Larry (talk) 22:49, 28 December 2015 (UTC)
- I see that, instead of tagging one of the pages for deletion, you blanked it. That wasn't what you were advised to do. However, never mind. Because blanking the page caused it to have no content, I tagged it for speedy deletion as no content. Robert McClenon (talk) 23:04, 28 December 2015 (UTC)
- I think the blanking was before I had replied here, Robert McClenon. Certainly it was blank when I looked into Melania22's contributions. Cordless Larry (talk) 20:42, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
- It isn't really important what the sequence of events was. If the originator of a page blanked it, it became a no-content page and was eligible for speedy deletion. (If another editor had blanked it, the appropriate response would be to revert the blanking and warn the editor for vandalism, but if the creator of a page blanks it, other editors can infer that they don't want it.) Robert McClenon (talk) 20:49, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
- Yes, it was Melania22 who blanked it and they clearly wanted it deleted, so thanks for dealing with it, Robert McClenon. Cordless Larry (talk) 20:53, 29 December 2015 (UTC)

File is copyrighted and has been released under a license which is incompatible with Facebook's licensing terms
My quiestion is this ( and incidentally the editor isn't working properly on my ubutu/firexfox system.
I noticed that on this picture https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marsh_fritillary#/media/File:Euphydryas_aurinia_MHNT_CUT_2013_3_26_Clermont_le_Fort_Dorsal.jpg is forbidden to be placed on facebook because of licencing terms. i would like to know what it is about Facebook's terms that is the problem and that interferes with wikipedia.
My editor problem consists of the box overlapping the text on the lefthand side of the wikipedia page. Making it difficult to see what I am typing. Som please excuse any typos.Neilj (talk) 22:53, 26 December 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Neilj. The file question is explained at m:Legal/CC-BY-SA on Facebook. Basically if you put an image of your own on Commons you can also put it on Facebook. But if you upload someone else's image from Commons to Facebook, that relicenses the image under the Facebook license. You can only use a Commons image elsewhere under the SS-BY-SA license. You cannot relicense a Commons image under any other license. Besides, Facebook's terms require: "You own all of the content and information you post on Facebook..." StarryGrandma (talk) 04:28, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
- StarryGrandma don't you mean CC-BY-SA? Because I don't know what SS-BY-SA is and Wikipedia has no article about it.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 21:08, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
Will additional short citations on the article be approved after it has been declined?Ssymes (talk) 03:46, 26 December 2015 (UTC)
Thank you for your response. My first draft of the article was declined due to insufficient resources on the subject. I have added more citations and wonder it this is now passable? -- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Shakira_Villa_SymesSsymes (talk) 03:46, 26 December 2015 (UTC)
- Greetings, Ssymes, and thanks for stopping by the teahouse. You do seem to have made an effort to add sources to the draft, and that is good. Our notability guideline for people, however, requires substantive coverage in reliable, secondary sources, to show notability, and so brief mentions, such as this, are less useful. This does not mean that you cannot use yahoo news as a source; but that yahoo news article does not contribute to establishing notability. In this case, your draft says that the subject is the "only female (Filipina) professional lighting designer currently in the Philippine live events industry." Now this is a credible claim towards significance, if it has been covered by reliable secondary sources; her facebook page is unfortunately not useful for this. What you need to do is dig a little further; if she truly is notable, then there must be newspaper articles or secondary web sources that focus on the subject, rather than mentioning her in passing; and if such sources are added, the draft will be much further towards acceptance. Vanamonde93 (talk) 06:37, 26 December 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you Vanamonde93. Searching for other sources on her now. Another question if I may: I am former student of the subject and signed in to Wikipedia as Ssymes with S for a student. I am wondering now if it would be in conflict with with the draft. Ssymes (talk) 13:37, 26 December 2015 (UTC)
- Ssymes, if your name is not Symes, it could be a problem. WP:CHU has directions about what to do.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 21:24, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
committed identity password
I am currently try to complete the identity password but have come across this.[2] please could you tell me how and what to do next.. Xray~Vision158 21:48, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
- Dear Xray~Vision158, read the instructions on Template:User committed identity. You do not need to edit that template. Sincerely, Taketa (talk) 21:55, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
- Hi @Xray~Vision158: Here's one of the easiest ways to produce your own committed identity password:
- Go to this page. In the first box labelled "Text you want to convert to a SHA-512 hash:", enter your identity password. This can be a sentence, paragraph, etc. Be sure to save your identity password somewhere safe, so that you can remember it in the future. Also keep your identity password a secret; no one else should know what it is. Click the "Convert file" button to convert your identity password in a hash.
- On the next page, the site will display a box containing your hash in four formats: hex, HEX, h:e:x, and base64. Use the first format, labelled "hex:", and ignore the remaining three formats. Copy the 128-character hash value, not including the "hex:" label.
- In the following template, replace
HASH
with your copied hash value:{{User committed identity|HASH|SHA-512|background=#FC9|border=#000}}
- Place that template on your userpage. The purpose of this template is that, in the event you lose access to your account, you can prove that you're the owner of the account by providing your secret identity hash.
- Hope this helps. Let us know if you have any more questions. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 21:59, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
- An even simpler way to complete this process is to use the Commited Identity Generator, created by Samtar. It's very easy and efficient, check it out. CatcherStorm talk 01:46, 30 December 2015 (UTC)

- How do other flags on wikipedia get uploaded? Thanks
- Tyanc13and7 (talk) 15:59, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
- As David Biddulph said, it depends on who owns the copyright. Some flags cannot be uploaded for this reason, or some can only used in specific ways. Read the article David linked to above for more information. That is how other flags get uploaded: editors find out the copyright status, they don't just guess.--Gronk Oz (talk) 16:49, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
- I'm not an expert on either copyright or flags, but I would be surprised if a town flag was subject to copyright. Cordless Larry (talk) 16:52, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
- Images of flags may be copyright. I don't think that a flag itself falls into any of the categories of things that are subject to copyright. My guess is that if you can't find a free-use image of the flag, you can take a picture of the flag as it is flying, and then the image is yours. However, some other experienced editor probably has even more knowledge of the copyright status of flags. Robert McClenon (talk) 02:05, 30 December 2015 (UTC)

review of new section.
I wrote a new section for the article New Hartford, New York in my sandbox User:MB/sandbox. Can I submit this for review, or is that mechanism intended only for new articles as this says: "Writing an article and ready to request its creation?", which is displayed right next to the "Submit your draft for review". MB (talk) 02:50, 30 December 2015 (UTC)
- Hello, as you mentionned, the AfC process is only for new articles. To suggest a new section, either copy it in, or, if you want some review before doing so, post a link to it on the talk page. If you are not the only contributor to the draft section, you will also have to provide attribution as per wp:PATT. Hope that helps! Happy Squirrel (talk) 04:48, 30 December 2015 (UTC)

Draft:All power labs request for more detailed notes
I have been writing an article Draft:All power labs and have addressed all comments that have been provided. However most editors have provided only the same boilerplate comment:
"This submission does not appear to be written in the formal tone expected of an encyclopedia article. Entries should be written from a neutral point of view, and should refer to a range of independent, reliable, published sources. Please rewrite your submission in a more encyclopedic format. Please make sure to avoid peacock terms that promote the subject."
I have read the referenced policies very carefully and have repeatedly made edits to address the various issues referred to. I have also visited other articles that were approved by some of the editors to try to better understand their standards of appropriateness, and have found approved articles with much more obvious and egregious violations of the referenced policies.
I am a novice editor and would appreciate any more-detailed input from more-experienced editors on ways to improve the article or other tactics that might improve its chances of being accepted. Nesdon (talk) 19:38, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
- Hello and welcome to the Teahouse! One problem I see is that the overview section is written like a story. Narrative and explanatory texts are different. One thing to do would be to split it into an overview section (what is it, where is it, what does it do) and a history section (when was it founded, what came before, what major changes occured since then). Other people will no doubt have other comments. Happy Squirrel (talk) 20:15, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
- I have made an edit reorganizing this article with sections. Nesdon (talk) 23:36, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
- You say "most editor have provided only the same boilerplate comment". Am I missing something? I only see one review of the draft. I was wondering whether maybe you had removed reviewer comments from the draft, but it does not appear that you have done so. So it appears that your question really has to do with one comment, not with multiple comments. I think that question has been addressed by Happysquirrel. Robert McClenon (talk) 20:35, 29 December 2015 (UTC)

Magazine covers
Can magazine covers be scanned and uploaded legally to Wikipedia and used as images? F-16 Viper (talk) 14:32, 30 December 2015 (UTC)
- Magazine covers are almost always copyright. A photograph of a magazine cover (please note the singular - only one cover) can be uploaded to illustrate the article about the magazine, under a "Fair-use" rationale. In rare circumstances, such as Nature (journal) and Time (magazine) the first edition cover is also used, but both of these are "public domain" images, so are not copyright. You cannot (normally) use the image to illustrate an article on the subject featured on the cover - for more details see Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria and Wikipedia:Non-free content - Arjayay (talk) 16:01, 30 December 2015 (UTC)

How do you make a page so that only auto conformed users can edit it? Awsomegamer75795 (talk) 15:10, 30 December 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Awsomegamer75795. Administrators can protect pages. Others can request it. Semi-protected pages can only be edited by autoconfirmed users. See Wikipedia:Protection policy and Wikipedia:Requests for page protection. PrimeHunter (talk) 15:22, 30 December 2015 (UTC)
- Why do you want a page semi-protected? The usual reason to semi-protect a page is vandalism by unregistered editors (IP addresses). Is the page being vandalized? If not, why do you want it semi-protected? Robert McClenon (talk) 17:44, 30 December 2015 (UTC)

Dear x. I tried to contribute to Fermat`s Last Theorem with some new elementary results and suddenly and unexpectedly all work I already done just disappeared. It was mentioned some kind of editor conflict situation by the system what I never experienced. The results I wanted to share in this way are never published elsewhere and original. Can someone help with advice please ?White Tiger (talk) 18:38, 30 December 2015 (UTC)
- Dear White Tiger, user David Eppstein has removed your contribution from the article, because he believes it to be original research. Wikipedia does not allow original research. Everything in the encyclopedia needs to be based on published sources. Any analysis or synthesis of published material that you made on your own, also falls under original research. To demonstrate that you are not adding original research, you must be able to cite reliable, published sources that are directly related to the topic of the article, and directly support the material being presented. If you have such evidence, I suggest you present it on the talk page of the article. Sincerely, Taketa (talk) 18:45, 30 December 2015 (UTC)
- Hello, Tigris35711, and welcome to the Teahouse. If you look at the article history for Fermat's Last Theorem, you will see that your edits were reverted by David Eppstein because your addition appeared to be original research. Please note that all material added to Wikipedia needs to be verifiable by reliable, published sources. Cordless Larry (talk) 18:46, 30 December 2015 (UTC)

I understand the regulation but this question don`t let me sleep. HNYWhite Tiger (talk) 20:09, 30 December 2015 (UTC)
- Take a look at the article history, White Tiger. There was an eight-minute gap between your second edit and the David reverting you. Perhaps you were making a further edit when your previous edits were reverted, but you had already added the material to the article. You can see this here. I suppose it was possible that you would subsequently add sources, but the responsibility to do so is on the editor adding material, and it is good practice to add the sources at the same time as the material that they support, so it was a reasonable assumption that your additions were original research. User Page vs. User Sandbox
I drafted an article, which is still in progress. It is currently listed as a red link on my user page. Should it be listed in my User Sandbox, instead? I want to make sure it is not public until I can finish writing, adding references, and then submit it. Ohee svep (talk) 20:49, 30 December 2015 (UTC)
- Hello, Ohee svep, and welcome to the Teahouse. There is a link to User:Ohee svep/Draft:Vera Dourmashkin Rubin on your user page, but it's not a red link - it works for me. Cordless Larry (talk) 20:56, 30 December 2015 (UTC)
- I see it as a working link on your user page. The way that you have named it is unusual but permitted. You could take the Draft: out of the name of the article, in which case it will be a regular user page, or you could move it into Draft space (but I see that you don't want to do that until you are finished writing it). By the way, when you refer to not wanting it to be "public" until you are finished, I assume that you mean that you don't want other editors to edit it, which is a valid use of user space. However, other users can read it and comment on it. (They can also edit it, but that would be normally considered disruptive and rude.) Robert McClenon (talk) 21:40, 30 December 2015 (UTC)

- Discuss your concerns on the article talk page. Since you now have 9 edits, that will autoconfirm you. Robert McClenon (talk) 22:15, 30 December 2015 (UTC)
- Hey, Pattompattom. While I agree with Robert that you should outline your concerns on the article talk page, once your account is autoconfirmed and you can edit the article, you can start by being bold. After all, the article has a template at the top stating that it needs attention from an expert, and you seem to be one. If you get reverted or another editor objects to your changes, then you should seek consensus for them on the talk page. You might also consider introducing yourself and mentioning that you plan to make changes to the article to the folks at Wikipedia:WikiProject Volleyball.
