Fact checking request

Webster Tarpley has written a government-commissioned study on the murder of Aldo Moro. This document, in Italian, has recently been provided to reference Tarpley being a Marxist. Is there any member of this project that would be able to access this document and check this information? Please give feedback at Talk:Webster Tarpley#Marxist. __meco (talk) 17:47, 28 January 2011 (UTC)

Can someone look at this edit, and tell me if it has any basis in fact? Besides being extremely poorly written, it also seems out of place, even implausible. I thought about reverting it, but I don't know if it's true. And I don't want to waste my time fixing up the poor writing if it's false. Help! HuskyHuskie (talk) 19:59, 20 February 2011 (UTC)

Prima facie it seems correct, see it:Giovanni Martini. It's surely out of place, but it may be time to open an entry for Giovanni Martini on en:wiki too. --Dans (talk) 20:50, 20 February 2011 (UTC)
Yes, it's definitely out of place; it:Giovanni Martini reportts that the birthplace of Martini is actually uncertain, and his relation to Sala Consilina is arguable. I am being bold and replacing the paragraph with a red reference. Moongateclimber (talk) 14:12, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

Collaboration with the Wine Project on Italian wine-related articles?

Hello! For 2011, the Wine Project is doing a Wine Article Improvement Drive with each month focused on a particular theme. For March, we will be tackling Italian wines which includes coverage of Italian wine history, grape varieties, culture and geography (particularly the coverage of the DOC/G wine regions themselves). I was wondering if any members of the Italy project would like to take part in the article improvement drive to help enhance our coverage on this important Italy-related topic? If there is interest, feel free to take a look at some of our areas of need and stop by the Wine Project's talk page to pitch in with any area that interest you. Thanks! Proposal to eliminate many living persons from lists and categories

A proposal has been made at Wikipedia_talk:Biographies_of_living_persons#No_valid_consensus to expand the WP:BLPCAT policy to include lists and categories based on ethnicity. This proposal, if adopted, would eliminate all living persons from Italian lists and categories, unless certain criteria are met (for instance, the person must self-identify themselves as Italian to be included; and their ethnicity must be relevant to their notability). Input is welcome. --Noleander (talk) 20:37, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

Anyone willing to help out a new user who's interested in notability in Sicily?

I userfied an article for this new editor a couple weeks ago. The user has made some improvements to it, but I know nothing about the topic and am unable to determine if it's suitable for the mainspace (it does still need some work with citations). If anyone has interest in this topic, please take a look at the article User:Italian-royalty/Nobility in Sicily. Thanks! P. D. Cook Talk to me! 14:47, 17 March 2011 (UTC)

Horse breeds of Italy

Hi! I have made a small start on covering the horse breeds of Italy, only a few of which had even a stub previously. One such is Cavallo Romano della Maremma Laziale. Would it be appropriate to add them to this project? If so, how and where should they go?
Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 13:23, 11 April 2011 (UTC)

Yes, that is an Italian breed but I think they would be more appropriate for WP Animals. :) -- Joaquin008 (talk) 15:17, 16 April 2011 (UTC)
WikiProject Equine is even more appropriate. -- Joaquin008 (talk) 11:21, 20 April 2011 (UTC)
AFAIK, BOTH are good projects. It may have more relevance to Equine. Just add both projects. Many articles have multiple projects. WhisperToMe (talk) 03:12, 25 April 2011 (UTC)

Lupo Alberto

I'm surprised that Lupo Alberto hadn't been created yet. Isn't it very famous in Italy? I think we need to add more content to this article WhisperToMe (talk) 03:12, 25 April 2011 (UTC)

Yes, I'm in Italy and Lupo Alberto is certainly known here. I support your suggestion. -- Joaquin008 (talk) 12:23, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
I wouldn't mind seeing the animated series get its own Wikipedia article (it has its own article in the Italian version)
Do you know what the animated series is titled in English? (I know there is an English version, but it may only be available in Italy) - Is Lupo Alberto called "Alberto" or "Albert"?
Are there English versions of the comics?
Guido Silvestri also needs his own article.
WhisperToMe (talk) 19:49, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
I remember the animated series but I don't know its title in English. The first season was in 1997-98, the second one in 2001. Regarding the comics, I could not find any informations about the English version, so I don't think they have ever made one. -- Joaquin008 (talk) 07:33, 26 April 2011 (UTC)
As far as I know, there is only an Italian version of the comic book. -- Joaquin008 (talk) 07:36, 26 April 2011 (UTC)

Also an article about Lupo Alberto (character) would not be a bad idea. :) -- Joaquin008 (talk) 08:32, 26 April 2011 (UTC)

If we can find creation and conception information (how "Silver" created the character and why) and reception information (how do third parties perceive of the character) then we can do that. :) WhisperToMe (talk) 15:44, 26 April 2011 (UTC)

American football teams in Italy, naming convention

In Italy, historically speaking, american football teams are called with the formula "Team name City", inverted from North American formula (see, for example, nicknames on official FIDAF website, teams section). Here on en.wiki we have:

What's right naming convention? Thank you--Trixt (talk) 09:59, 26 April 2011 (UTC)

Bergamo Lions should appear inverted too, then. They are Lions Bergamo on it:wiki--Dans (talk) 08:25, 28 May 2011 (UTC)

Dukedom of San Donato

This article has been removed from Wikipedia in Italy because of all its errors. It is a mix of lies and truth and is entirely written by the fake duke himself to get some legitimacy to his false claims. This is very easy to check in "Annuario della Nobiltà Italiana", the calender over Italian nobility. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dukedom_of_San_Donato --Ulwencreutz (talk) 18:01, 16 May 2011 (UTC) A shame that bogus article remains and that the proposed deletion was deleted. The fact remains - there is no such ducal house, not in Almanach de Gotha nor Annuario della Nobiltà Italiana (the Italian states version) or in any other serious source.--Ulwencreutz (talk) 20:57, 16 May 2011 (UTC)

Apparently you have a good knowledge of facts about nobility; I have no such knowledge, but can only remark that the Constitution of Italy (1948) "does not recnognize nobility titles".--Broletto (talk) 08:38, 17 May 2011 (UTC)
Almost, but not quite [1] :-) Giacomo Returned 07:38, 18 May 2011 (UTC)
  • I have been doing some research too, and am not entirely happy with the page. The present duke appears to have inherited the title from his mother. This website supposedly documenting the family [2] states that the "The current and 13th Duke of San Donato is HE Don Marco Lupis Macedonio Palermo of Princes of Santa Margherita [1]." However, the Duke's link from that website leads to a deleted Wikipedia page Marco Lupis (deleted in 2009). I think some admin should research the reasons why that page was deleted, and we have then have a clue as to what is going on. I do not say the dukedom does not (or did not) exist, I merely feel that wikipedia is not a vehicle for establishing titular rights. Giacomo Returned 14:41, 17 May 2011 (UTC)
  • The deleted page was a page not about the family or the title, but about the present duke, that has been a journalist, and the page has been deleted because - as stated clearly - for the it-wiki standards "Being a journalist is not an assertion of notability". In the italian version of the same site documenting the family, I found the english version of the biography of the present duke [3]--Marimbambito (talk) 23:09, 17 May 2011 (UTC)
Actually, you have found his autobiography, which is not quite the same thing at all as a biography - in fact, it seems to be his site. I have just made a comment on the Dukedom of Donato talk page [4]. The Holy Roman Empire site is not good enough for a Wikipedia reference. This is a serious project. Giacomo Returned 07:05, 18 May 2011 (UTC)
I am making some further coments on the articles's talk page [5]. Giacomo Returned 09:24, 18 May 2011 (UTC)
  • I have added few citations on the voice. About your various concern, I'd just would like to remember that actually, in Italy, as there was no Monarchy from longtime and no official "fons honorum" or Institutions, every noble title must be seen as a "claim", based on past historical and actual genealogical reasons, and can only be "recognized" by private Institutions whose "legitimacy" can only be based on the own Institution reputation. After the fall of the italian monarchy, infact, the new republican Italian Constitution stated - with the "14ma disposizione transitoria e finale" - that "Titles of nobility are not recognized. The predicates of those existing before 1922 shall serve as part of the surname" By the way, everyone that are used to understand legal matters, know that "not recognized" doesen't mean "not-existants", but only means that cannot be regulated and/or protected by the new Italian republic. In fact, to be precise and reading carefuly the statement of the "14ma disposizione" of the Republican Italian Consitution, can see that only titles bestowed after 28 October 1922 (after the rise to power of Fascism, in an effort to cancel every kind of "honour" originated by "fascist merits") were declared never to have existed. Those families bearing titles older that 28 october 1922 were permitted to use them and, if they ask for this, they can join the "predicato" (the name of the main fief) as part of their surname. For this reason, after a period of uncertainty, the Italian aristocracy continued to use their titles in the same way as they had in previous centuries. This behaviour was cemented by the continued publication of various directory of the nobility of Italy, of course that can only be privately-published all, like the Libro d'oro della Nobiltà Italiana [6], the Albo d'oro delle famiglie Nobili e Notabili italiane ed europee [7], the Annuario della Nobiltà Italiana [8], the Elenco dei titolati Italiani [9] and some more. --Marimbambito (talk) 11:21, 18 May 2011 (UTC)

Question

I have a question about the Category:Germanophone Italians. Don't you think it would be more logical to rename this category to Category:South Tyroleans? German Wikipedia and several other ones have already de:Kategorie:Person (Südtirol). The current category name is just weird and contains de facto only South Tyroleans. For other people Category:Italian people of German descent should be used. What do you think? - Darwinek (talk) 18:35, 17 May 2011 (UTC)

Please, follow the proposal for renaming. - Darwinek (talk) 11:35, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

Only if you're an assiduous TV-watcher. Very dubious enciclopedicity, IMHO, it barely overcame a deletion procedure in 2007.--Dans (talk) 08:22, 28 May 2011 (UTC)

Municipalities of Italy

According to Wikipedia naming conventions, "places in Italy are disambiguated using the "comma convention" by the larger of the region, province or municipality needed to identify it uniquely, as appropriate, not as Placename, Italy." Despite this, there is a multitude of articles on Italian comuni (municipalities) with wrong titles. I recently worked on Veneto, but still there are many other regions to fix. Who is interested in it? (See Category:Cities and towns in Italy) --Checco (talk) 12:58, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

Okay, I had a look at the provinces of A-M today. Perhaps I missed some municipalities. --Mai-Sachme (talk) 17:34, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

Unreferenced BLPs - the final surge

Since early in 2010, many editors have assisted in the referencing or removal of over 90% of the Unreferenced Biographies of Living People, bringing the total down from over 50,000 to the current 4,862 (as of 16:25, 1 June 2011 (UTC)). Thank you for all of the work you've done to date, but we are now asking for your help in finishing this task. There are two main projects which are devoted to removing UBLPs from en.Wikipedia:

All you have to do is pick your articles and then add suitable references from reliable sources and remove the {{BLP unsourced}} template. There is no need to log your changes, register or remove the articles from the list. If you need any help, or have any comments, please ask at WP:URBLPR or WT:URBLP.

Thank you for any assistance you can provide. The-Pope (talk) 16:25, 1 June 2011 (UTC)

Question about Rome and Milan districts

In which Rome districts are these places located?

And what about these places in Milan?

WhisperToMe (talk) 02:42, 31 August 2011 (UTC)

About Milan: based on a comparison between this image and the location as found on Google Maps, I am quite confident in saying that Via Albricci is located in the "Zone 1" (Zona 1) subdivision, and Spadolini in "Zone 5". Please note that these are technically called zones rather than districts. Zones are formal; districts (if you take this word as equivalent to the Italian word "quartiere") are informal and it is thus harder to reply precisely. Anyway, according to the notion of district currently used in en.wiki, Via Spadolini is undoubtedly in the Morivione district. Albricci is most probably considered part of the Centro Storico district, but I have no conclusive reference for this. Moongateclimber (talk) 08:05, 1 September 2011 (UTC)

La Chorrera

Could someone please tell me if there is a La Chorrera in Italy? I am asking because I have been correcting links to La Chorrera following a page move by someone else and I came across Francis of Paola. I created the link seeing as he didn't seem to link to Colombia, Panama or Puerto Rico. Simply south...... creating lakes for 5 years 22:58, 30 September 2011 (UTC)

I sort of doubt it, as Chorrera is an improbable spelling in Italian. In standard Italian the only time you put an h after a c is before the vowels e or i, to indicate that the c should be given a "k" sound. Before a, o, u or any consonant, c has the "k" sound by default, so the h isn't necessary.
But of course that doesn't prove it's impossible. The name could be dialectal or Spanish. --Trovatore (talk) 00:01, 2 October 2011 (UTC)

By the way, unless La Chorrera is imminently scheduled to become a disambig page, please do not change links to [[La Chorrera, Colombia|La Chorrera]]. See WP:NOTBROKEN. --Trovatore (talk) 00:07, 2 October 2011 (UTC)
Ah, OK, a couple of things:
  • It appears La Chorrera is going to be a dab page. That's fine, then.
  • It looks like Francis of Paola is the patron saint of La Chorrera, Panama. See this article. Just an offhand mention in a newspaper story about something else, so not exactly a premium-quality reliable source, but seems good enough to answer your question. --Trovatore (talk) 00:18, 2 October 2011 (UTC)
Yes, looks like it's Panama – see es:Francisco de Paula (santo), or search for "san francisco de paula". Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 00:22, 2 October 2011 (UTC)
Yes, I'll confirm that there is no place called "La Chorrera" in Italy. As mentioned above, this is not a realistic spelling for an Italian word; moreover, I think it.wiki has long covered all Italian toponyms (by some sort of bot) and there, too, there is no sign of a place called "La Chorrera" in Italy.
