hey boys, I finished translating this page: Malaspina family and my homie has finished copy-editing it, so I was hoping for a reassessment on the page's quality, thanks for your time and have a wonderful day! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Spaicol (talkcontribs) 00:01, 29 October 2018 (UTC)

Nomination of Portal:Cortina d'Ampezzo for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether Portal:Cortina d'Ampezzo is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The page will be discussed at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Portal:Cortina d'Ampezzo until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the page during the discussion, including to improve the page to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the deletion notice from the top of the page.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Northamerica1000 (talkcontribs) 08:23, 31 March 2019 (UTC)

A request for comment is underway at Talk:List of works by Leonardo da Vinci#Talk:List_of_works_by_Leonardo_da_Vinci#RfC_-_Horse_and_Rider. The RfC addresses the following question:

Requested article: Language Question (Italy)

I recently wrote an article about the Language Question (Malta), and while I was researching it I came across a somewhat similar linguistic debate which took place in Italy. This is covered by a fairly decent article on the Italian Wikipedia (it:Questione della lingua) but there's no article about it on the English Wikipedia. Would someone from this project be interested in translating the article from Italian and perhaps improving upon it?

I am also making this request at WikiProject Languages and WikiProject Linguistics. --Xwejnusgozo (talk) 19:28, 9 October 2020 (UTC)

I think this is a bad idea. There is a section "History" at Italian language, which could always be expanded into a separate article "History of Italian" (which currently redirects). The title "Language question", however parenthetically expanded, is really not very helpful. The Italian article starts by telling us that (in Italian) the expression "questione della lingua" refers to the debate about how Italian would develop historically. But the mindless translation of this is not true: in English "the question of language" has no such particular meaning. Imaginatorium (talk) 05:28, 10 October 2020 (UTC)
@Imaginatorium: Although I used the term "Language Question" in English in the proposed title, if the Italian term "Questione della lingua" is deemed to be better I have no problems with that (the Spanish and Galician versions of the article use the Italain term as well). My choice of the English-language term might have been biased because Malta's Language Question was also called questione della lingua in Italian, and the debate in Italy has been called Language Question in English in literature. --Xwejnusgozo (talk) 12:01, 10 October 2020 (UTC)
Well, I think that en:WP should contain articles in English (obviously), with titles in English, unless there really is no way of expressing the notion in English. This is not the case here. (Springer have published a paper with this as the title; so what? Springer have also published utter rubbish, and WP ought to aim above them.) Anyway, I have strong resistance to in-context jargon titles. The conflict in Northern Ireland between Catholics/Nationalists and Protestant/Unionists that lasted from 1968 to the GFA is locally referred to as "The Troubles". That does not make it a good title for a general encyclopedia article. Imaginatorium (talk) 13:09, 10 October 2020 (UTC)

Calimera massacre

On 10 May 1906 the Milanese proletariat protested against the massacre of workers that occurred in Calimera di Lecce (Lecce province).
— Buttà, Fausto (2015). Living Like Nomads: The Milanese Anarchist Movement Before Fascism. Cambridge Scholars Publishing. p. 113. ISBN 978-1-4438-8159-3. (for fn81, see p. 118)

Would anyone have any further information on the Calimera killings mentioned here? I haven't found anything in English-language searches or the related WP articles (enwp or itwp) but perhaps they're in Italian sources, perhaps under a different name? If it really was a massacre I'd expect more coverage than what I've found thus far. Edit: This listing ("Calinera" typo?) has two dead, three wounded on April 30, 1906, if the date helps. czar 07:43, 19 December 2020 (UTC)

Japanese visits to Italy in the 1600s

I'm working on saving Hasekura Tsunenaga from being demoted from FA status. A number of the references that are needed have to do with Catholicism, including records from Spain, Italy, and other places in Europe. I've made a list at Talk:Hasekura Tsunenaga#Refs needed, and any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks! ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 00:23, 31 December 2020 (UTC)

I'm currently working to translate the title of this book. My transcription of the title page is as follows (broken up by line to make it easier to compare for translation):
Historia
del regno di voxu
del Giapone,
dell'antichita, nobilta,
e valore del suo re
Idate Masamune,
e gusto spirituale de i Lettori.
Dedicata all S.tà di N. S. Papa PAOLO V.
Fatta per il Dottor Scipione Amati Romano, Interprete,
& Historico dell'Ambasciata.
Appresso Giacomo Mascardi.
Con licenza de'Superiori.
In Roma, MDCXV
My feeble attempt at translation leaves some gaps due to my almost non-existent Italian ability. Words in bold are ones I couldn't translate:
History
of the reign of voxu
of Japan,
of antiquity, nobility,
and value of his king
Idate Masamune,
of the favors he has done
to Christianity, and the desire he holds to be a Christian
and to increase our holy faith in those parts.
And of the Embassy that inuiata the Holy Age of N. S. Pope PAUL V.
and of his successes, with other various things of edification,
and spiritual taste of the Readers.
Dedicated to the Holy Age of N. S. Pope PAUL V.
Made for Doctor Scipione Amati Romano, Interpreter,
& Historiian of the Embassy.
Attended by Giacomo Mascardi.

The inuiata should probably be inviata, "sent". --Trovatore (talk) 20:58, 5 February 2021 (UTC)
That would make sense. Probably a typo, then? You can see the title page here (you may have to scroll down). ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 21:11, 5 February 2021 (UTC)
I wouldn't call it a typo. In that era u and v were considered two different ways of writing the same letter. --Trovatore (talk) 17:59, 6 February 2021 (UTC)

Lack of information

I have noticed that many voices of Italian municipalities lack information. In the Italian Wikipedia I deal a lot with the history and culture of many countries, especially the villages close to me. I decided to start an intense activity of translating the voices that I deal with and close to me, for example Sarnano. I will divide the translations into five phases:

  • Phase 1: Translation of geography;
  • Phase 2: Translation of the origin of the country's name, monuments and culture;
  • Phase 3: Translation of the economy, society and administration;
  • Phase 4: Translation of sport and infrastructure;
  • Phase 5: Translation of the history of the country.

I hope you will appreciate my work; aid is welcome. I'm not a native english speaker, but I try to give my best. Campus27 (talk) 07:52, 16 April 2021 (UTC)

Opinions and comments needed

Opinions and comments needed here.

It is a renaming proposal of the Italian municipality currently spelled Codogné. It was proposed to change the spelling to Codognè. The reason of the proposal is that the Italian state websites listing Italian municipalities use the same accent (è) for every accented town name and that on the website of the town itself this is the most common spelling. The reason to reject the proposal is that Italian orthography handbooks and encyclopedies which distinguish between two different accents prescribe the current spelling (é) corresponding to the prescribed pronunciation in Standard Italian. Since both options are reasonable a large number of opinions is desirable to have a shared consensus.

Albeit saying that the article doesn't seem to be the most important on Wikipedia is more than an understatement, the main Italian article doesn't seem to be monstrously long either, so as soon as time allows, I'll definitely work on a loose yet faithful translation of the Italian version of the article into English. In any case, even though a translation may suffice for a while, I usually tend to look for original sources in English whenever I'm writing an article in that language, at least whenever they are available, even if a translation would make for a much faster process. I hope this helps.--NicolaArangino (talk) 16:00, 29 August 2021 (UTC)

Discussion about the new League of Matteo Salvini

Hi everyone. I report a discussion on the talk page of Lega Nord (Talk:Lega Nord/Archive 6#Is Salvini the Secretary?) regarding the transfer of information (from 2020 onwards) to the Lega per Salvini Premier page. From 2020 the only active party in the whole Italian territory is the Lega per Salvini Premier, however currently this page is just a stub. On the other hand, the Northern League is de facto no longer active, so continuing to update the page under that name is wrong. There are two possible options: historicize the Lega Nord page and implement the new Lega per Salvini Premier page (as done in it.wikipedia: it:Lega Nord and it:Lega per Salvini Premier) or merge the two pages under a new name, like "League (Italy)". At the moment there is a slight propensity for the former, but a broader debate would be welcome. Anyone interested is invited to participate.--Scia Della Cometa (talk) 18:17, 3 November 2021 (UTC)

User script to detect unreliable sources

I have (with the help of others) made a small user script to detect and highlight various links to unreliable sources and predatory journals. Some of you may already be familiar with it, given it is currently the 39th most imported script on Wikipedia. The idea is that it takes something like

  • John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14. (John Smith "[https://www.deprecated.com/article Article of things]" ''Deprecated.com''. Accessed 2020-02-14.)

and turns it into something like

It will work on a variety of links, including those from {{cite web}}, {{cite journal}} and {{doi}}.

The script is mostly based on WP:RSPSOURCES, WP:NPPSG and WP:CITEWATCH and a good dose of common sense. I'm always expanding coverage and tweaking the script's logic, so general feedback and suggestions to expand coverage to other unreliable sources are always welcomed.

Do note that this is not a script to be mindlessly used, and several caveats apply. Details and instructions are available at User:Headbomb/unreliable. Questions, comments and requests can be made at User talk:Headbomb/unreliable.

Italy's official position

An editor has added Italy to a list of countries that are violating international law by supporting Morocco's autonomy plan on Western Sahara. I have tried to explain to them (with no luck so far) that the Italian source that they presented doesn't actually say that (the Moroccan sources that are used for Italy and other countries' claims are clearly unreliable). AFAIK, Italy's official position has always been neutral (supporting a mutually acceptable solution within the framework of the United Nations) and is more likely to remain that way now that it's taking advantage of Spain's mistake. I would be grateful if someone who has access to Italian sources could intervene. Thanks. M.Bitton (talk) 21:03, 15 May 2022 (UTC)

Add Draft-class assessments?

Hey folks, (very!) long time no post. I see that there's 118 draft articles using the Draft-class assessment but because Draft class isn't enabled in {{WikiProject Italy}} they appear in the assessment table as "Other". It seems sensible to enable the class since it's already widely used in the wild - the cleanest way to do it would be to use the extended quality scale (ie add |QUALITY_SCALE = extended) to the template) but they usually like to see a consensus demonstrated before these things happen. So, we need some opinions one way or the other - should we use the extended quality scale to add the Draft class to the assessment template ? FlagSteward (talk) 03:51, 31 October 2022 (UTC)

Italian band’s name with hyphen minus/en dash

hi, there is a discussion about the Italian band CCCP ‑ Fedeli alla linea which in the English page is written without the hyphen/dash. The official name wants that mark so I asked to move the page and the discussion was started, hardly anybody has replied so far alas. To make more visible the discussion, I want to try writing about it here in the Wikiproject about Italy and, to stimulate the discussion, calling a few Italian members. @Gitz6666, Pampuco, Nehme1499, Camelia.boban, Cote d'Azur, Kasper2006, Attilios, and Noclador: can you come and join the discussion? You can find it at the page Talk:CCCP Fedeli alla linea. To anybody who will take part, thanks! EISaxo (talk) 15:05, 23 January 2023 (UTC)

I saw the discussion is now over. Well, in my opinion the hiphen is the main form the band is referred, but not the only one. If I had to decide I'd have had chosen the form with the hiphen. --Pampuco (talk) 18:11, 21 February 2023 (UTC)

Project-independent quality assessments

Quality assessments by Wikipedia editors rate articles in terms of completeness, organization, prose quality, sourcing, etc. Most wikiprojects follow the general guidelines at Wikipedia:Content assessment, but some have specialized assessment guidelines. A recent Village pump proposal was approved and has been implemented to add a |class= parameter to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, which can display a general quality assessment for an article, and to let project banner templates "inherit" this assessment.

No action is required if your wikiproject follows the standard assessment approach. Over time, quality assessments will be migrated up to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, and your project banner will automatically "inherit" any changes to the general assessments for the purpose of assigning categories.

However, if your project has decided to "opt out" and follow a non-standard quality assessment approach, all you have to do is modify your wikiproject banner template to pass {{WPBannerMeta}} a new |QUALITY_CRITERIA=custom parameter. If this is done, changes to the general quality assessment will be ignored, and your project-level assessment will be displayed and used to create categories, as at present. Un wiki pass per l'Emilia-Romagna

Hello WikiProject Italy!

I'm glad to announce you that the project Un wiki pass per l'Emilia-Romagna is going on. This project wants to facilitate the access to the culture of Emilia-Romagna, in Italy, by refunding small amount (for tickets of museums, theaters, cinemas, books, etc.), and encourage the contribution on Wikimedia projects. You can participate alone or in a group. The project is aimed at experienced users of Wikipedia (all editions), Commons and other Wikimedia projects.

You can contribute to any topic related to this region of Italy, either by visiting a cultural place on site, or in a more creative way, for example by visiting exhibitions in other parts of the world, with the only constraint of some connection to Emilia-Romagna. For example, you could be interested in an Elisabetta Sirani temporary exhibition in Washington, DC, for taking photos and/or improving the article(s). In this case, you can report your wish on this page and visit the museum (be sure to keep the ticket for refund!). Then modify the article(s) and/or upload your photos on Commons, declare what you have done on the page of the project, and ask an another Wikipedian of your choice to check that you've contributed in accordance with your previous declaration (this is just a formality, not an assessment of the quality of the content - I'm available for review). At this point, notify me to proceed with the refund from Wikimedia Italia.

If you are interested, please translate the project pages, read the FAQ section and ask your questions on this talk page. You can participate by contributing until June 30th, 2024, but verifications of contributions will be accepted until August 31, 2024.

This formula is rather new and I'm testing it for the first time: Wikimedia Italia is supporting me in this challenge, please give me your feedback for a (possible) future improved edition. Be bold and creative when setting your goals, and have fun! Pątąfişiķ 14:50, 25 January 2024 (UTC)

I rarely edit on mobile, so this one to ask at WP:HelpDesk, I'm afraid! If you use the visual editor, there should be a speech mark symbol at the top which opens a wizard to add a reference. If you use source editing, you will need to learn the citation templates and check their documentation (e.g. Template:Cite book, Template:Cite web). Notice

The article Forlivese dialect has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

"There is no Romagnol dialect, but an infinity of Romagnol dialects decreasing from place to place, as continuous variations on a common basis." There is definitely a place on Wikipedia for documenting the Forlivese idiosyncracies of the Romagnol dialect, which is discussed in multiple WP:RS, though it is something that this stub presently does not begin to discuss. But these peculiarities are best treated at Romagnol, unless we are going to make an article about the dialectal idiosyncracies of 70+ municipalities of Romagna. (To my knowledge, no other municipality in Romagna has yet been afforded an article on its dialect.)

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Routes in railway station articles

I notice lots of articles on Italian railway stations have a section detailing the "routes" served by trains passing through them, e.g. Molfetta railway station, Rimini railway station, Roma Termini railway station. These sections are often entirely unreferenced; browsing through the edit history of these three sampled stations, the sections were added by Chris0693 (no edits since 2018) around 2014.

I'm coming across quite a few Italian railway station articles in WP:FEB24. I guess I have two questions:

  1. Is there any WP:RS we can use to reference these sections, short of the laborious task of combing through individual daily station timetables (e.g. Molfetta)?
  2. Should these sections even exist? Where stations aren't on a handful of simple routes, I have broader reservations that I'm not sure these routes are entirely appropriate for an encyclopaedic entry, or at worst, in the absence of published timetables per station, risk becoming obsolete over time and thus factually incorrect. (Sure, these things are unlikely to change dramatically, but 10 years have passed since Chris' work.) I also notice that these sections don't exist in the Italian-language counterpart articles of these sampled stations.

Thanks! IgnatiusofLondon (talk) 20:30, 18 February 2024 (UTC)

I'm not aware of a single Italian source comparable to https://www.öv-info.ch/de for Switzerland. I've mostly worked with Italian stations in Northern Italy; so I know that Trenord, for one, does or did publish schedules that can be referenced.
On the broader question, I think it's appropriate to present the information if it can be appropriately referenced, and for me that means PDFs or something else with state. Going off the trip planner fails WP:V. Service frequency and destinations are an important part of why a station exists. The obsolescence question is an important one. I believe Italy follows other European countries in changing its timetables on the second Saturday in December. Something I've started doing is including the formulation As of the December 2020 timetable change, the following services to make it clear when the information was last checked. Mackensen (talk) 20:57, 18 February 2024 (UTC)
Thanks! I think you're quite right about PDF or equivalent references. On which note, I dug around and found that Trenitalia does publish PDFs, which might be part of the answer to this discussion. The PDFs are divided by train type, so some stations will require several PDFs to fully reference, and of course, this is only Trenitalia. The note about timetable changes is wise, certainly an oversight from the 2014 additions. IgnatiusofLondon (talk) 21:06, 18 February 2024 (UTC)
So I tried to see what redoing Chris' work would look like for Rimini (granted, a major railway station). It seems like a mess: 24 destinations, with upwards of 40 routes or station-calling patterns. Because things seem to be scheduled by the train than by the route, it feels like trying to explain the typical frequency or listing routes invites a mighty mess. Additionally, there are significant differences for April, and some routes only run on Saturdays. I suspect a summary along these lines might be sufficient (and likely avoid the need of major updates between winter/summer schedules):

As of February 2024, the station is served by regional, fast regional (regionale veloce), InterCity, and high-speed Frecciarossa trains. As is typical on the Italian network, trains scheduled at different times of the day call at different combinations or numbers of stations along similar routes, and often terminate at different stations. Regional trains calling at Rimini typically run to Ancona, Imola, Bologna Centrale or Ravenna, while fast regional trains typically run to Ancona, Bologna Centrale or Piacenza. The InterCity and Frecciarossa trains extend to Lecce and Milano Centrale, or terminate at major stops before those stations, such as Pescara Centrale or Bari Centrale. There are infrequent or seasonal direct trains to San Pietro in Casale, Ferrara, Suzzarra, Torino Porta Nuova, Venezia Santa Lucia, and Trieste Centrale. There is a daily EuroCity service to München Hautbahnhof, and a seasonal EuroNight service between München and Pesaro. One high-speed Frecciabianca runs to Roma Termini every morning, returning as a non-stop service to Ravenna in the evening.

Notice that this pattern is considerably different to the 2014 section in the article, suggesting indeed that these sections need revising across railway station articles. IgnatiusofLondon (talk) 13:30, 19 February 2024 (UTC)
I think that's an entirely reasonable approach. I suspect two things are true: service patterns have changed since 2014, and the 2014 version of the article didn't provide a complete summary of services. Mackensen (talk) 15:15, 19 February 2024 (UTC)

Hey there WikiProject Italy people, there is an IP that started editing yesterday who is methodically going through many pages at quite high speed changing what appears to be a specific flag everywhere they can: Special:Contributions/92.26.65.138. I only caught it because I am watching changes on Bombing of Rome, and am afraid potentially problematic changes to niche pages could go unnoticed. Choucas Bleu (T·C) 12:00, 23 April 2024 (UTC)

Article Request

Hey all, I want to put in an article request here but I'm not sure what the correct procedure is. Should I just add it to the list on the project page? Is there some sort of process? Sorry, I'm pretty new here.

The article I'm requesting is for La Critica - I'm currently doing significant work on the Giovanni Gentile article and it would be useful to have an English language version of the article. Given that it's already a redirect, we may need an actual article to replace it?

For reference, here's what the bullet point in the list would look like:

According to https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/2.37.165.95, ‎"‎sono di mola di bari, le frittelle sono vuote, usano lo stesso impasto del panzerotto ma sono più vicine alle crescentine modenesi che al panzerotto. non so a Molfetta ma secondo me queste americanate sono tutte sbagliate" (English: "I'm from Mola di Bari, the frittelle are empty, they use the same dough as the panzerotto but they are closer to the crescentine modenesi than the panzerotto. I don't know about Molfetta but I think these americanate are all wrong"), this page should be correct. JacktheBrown (talk) 14:47, 23 May 2024 (UTC)
