I am not sure, if this is the right place to put this, but I have seen that you have found many sock puppets of [[user: polscience]] in the past. I have a suspicion, not really evidence, that a new avatar is with us. I am suspicious, because the new user jumps into polscience's favorite discussion and it is equally difficult to follow his arguments. Also his driving motivation seems to be similar, i.e., rather to criticize ''status quo'' than providing constructive propositions. So, if possible check [[user: TurkeyKnight]]. Sarah's last stand?

I fear the Wiki community is fed up with Sarah's charges of political bias; her tampering with an AfD tag seems to have released alot of previously held back frustrations from others. I wish I could help get her out of trouble, but it seems I can only do so much; the rest is up to her. GoodDay (talk) 16:44, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've made one more plea to her. GoodDay (talk) 19:09, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
:( I'm not sure if there's anything I can do, GoodDay. I'm all for giving her another-other-other chance but seems we're in the minority - Alison 19:50, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I leave that task with you Alison. I wish you (and Sarah) good luck. GoodDay (talk) 20:01, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think the ball is very much in Sarah's court now. A sea-change in her way of addressing perceived injustices is required, without that there is little any of can do. I hope she can make that change. By the way, Allie. I was sorry to hear about your recent off-wiki issues. If in the future you need an admin to make a difficult block in relation to this, drop me an email. Rockpocket 20:11, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I am backing out of this conversation before I get charged with bloodthirstiness again. But please consider what you're proposing and whether you actually think it is possible. If you think you can do something here, then more power -- and respect -- to you. - Revolving Bugbear 23:32, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, guys, and thanks, Rocky, for your kind words. All's well in that regard for the near future at least. I've followed up on ANI to the latest responses and will give things another while to see what other folks say. I'm really loath to give up on her :( - Alison 11:41, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Alison, with all respect, I am not seeing the consensus for unblock. Please review the recent ANI thread. Also, for the record, I am becoming increasingly uncomfortable with this concept of "Irish admin unblocking Irish editor, and saying that people need to check with said Irish admin before the Irish editor can be blocked again." I'm also confused with why you feel that it's necessary to put a fast-track 12-hour deadline on this. You posted your idea about unblocking her, then 4 hours later you're declaring consensus? If you think that unblocking Sarah is that urgent, then please start (another) ANI thread. --Elonka 05:10, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Elonka - am I reading this right?? Do you have a problem with my nationality? Are you suggesting I'm biased due to where I was born? I do hope not. Frankly, this debacle has gone on for more than long enough. I'm not seeing major dissent - just yours and maybe one or two others. That's all. The vast majority simply want to move on at this stage ... - Alison 05:15, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Could we talk directly, off-wiki? --Elonka 05:34, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, but I'd rather keep things public and visible on-wiki where possible. Email me if you like, for my Skype and AIM info - Alison 08:40, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Krabs checkuser request

Hi Alison. I'm asking you because you may remember 216.83.121.194 and Krabs502. There has been another recent outbreak of hoaxes. I've managed to put together some suspects at User_talk:Zzuuzz#Yet_another_Krabs_sock. and I've blocked some open proxies, but I wonder if you'd mind checkusering for puppets and the like (no real hurry). Thanks. -- zzuuzz (talk) 11:34, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

zzuuzz, I'll have a look at this in the morning. I'm sleep-editing here at the moment as it's 4:30am here :) - Alison 11:39, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Help Needed

Hey Alison. Sorry for disturbing ,You dont know me. I just saw you on the checkuser request page and I thought you might be able to help me out. I know several users whose editing history are very similar so I thought it might be one person with several different accounts. Could you check the possible connection between user:Kayrat Tuntekov, user:Kesälauantait , and user:Lycander's Aim? One of them even had some disruptive edits on "Asia" page.At least two of them have been editing articles "blond" "Asia" and "Europe " with almost same intervals.I am a new user and I dont knoe how to ckech them or whatever you do.If they are not connected and Im wrong thats OK too. Thanks --Anna polly (talk) 15:48, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I see a formal RFCU case has now been filed here - Alison 21:10, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

Thanks for the two warnings but I just don't know what was up with the benoit murder suicide exit it was factual. Please just message me back. Also regarding the hybrid edit the guy just made me mad again sorry. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cmpunksgreat (talkcontribs) 06:31, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My lawyers will be getting in touch soon.

I have the evidence I require regarding... Well... Let's call it the Ulster connection ;). You could always stand down now of course. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.189.142.49 (talkcontribs)

Unlikely, sorry. I don't capitulate to anonymous bullies. Besides, it could be fun to see what this "Ulster connection" is. Better have your facts straight! - Alison 15:58, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mary Lou McDonald

I removed the copyvio notice as no action was needed and it isn't a copyvio.--Domer48 (talk) 18:43, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Domer. I've followed up with User:Setanta747 but you might also want to weigh in at Wikipedia:Copyright problems/2008 May 25/Articles to state your case, too. I'm really not seeing the issue here at all ... - Alison 23:22, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Just a wee heads up Alison. :) --Setanta747 (talk) 00:24, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Gaeilge Dúchasach, an ea?

Haigh, a Stifle! I've been meaning to bug you about this one before ach ní raibh aon seans agam.

As a Gaelgóir, I'm wondering if you'd be interested in setting up an account and contributing over at the Irish language Wiktionary? We could use all the help we can get over there, having gone from a dead wiki with 30 words last August to a wiki with almost 1,000 Irish words and counting. It's fun and a peaceful break away from Wikipedia. Pretty-please? - Alison 21:26, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm pretty rubbish at the layout and formatting of Wiktionaries in general. I also can't understand IPA pronounciation guides. I'll drop over if I can but I don't know if I'll be of a lot of use. Stifle (talk) 09:57, 29 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

E-mail

Hi Alison, I believe the title says it all. :) There's something I need to talk to you about. Acalamari 02:15, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I would appreciate a response please. Thanks. Acalamari 21:19, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I'm sorry, Acalamari. I'll reply later on tonight. I'm really sorry - I've been snowed under with work ... - Alison 04:48, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That's all right. :) Sorry if I was "hurrying you", as it were. Acalamari 15:41, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

could you possibly mark an image as copyvio for me?

Have a bite - this one's fresh!

[1] is an extreme obvious copyvio of [2]. I've been hopelessly failing to put the templates up properly on here and commons but it's not working as it's late lol and I've not done it before. If Alison or a Watcher of her page could sort it, it would be much appreciated. Love from The Defender of the Parkin.:) Sticky Parkin 02:25, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Done on the commons image. ww2censor (talk) 02:59, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, guys! I've gone ahead and deleted the commons image as a copyvio. Then I felt guilty so I found a properly-licensed image on Flickr, uploaded it and changed the article on both the English and French Wikipedias to show the new pic. Job done :) - Alison 06:20, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh how evil, I had made and photoed one especially last night, so I was forced to eat all those calories, now you turn up a pic that's much nicer than mine, anyway! I'll bill you for the lipo I'll need lol -just joking, thanks a lot, I couldn't get the templates to work at all for some reason. Perhaps you have an idea of what I was doing wrong, in case I have to do it again? :)? Out of interest, how did you come across the free-license pic, I find them hard to come by online? Sticky Parkin 12:29, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RE:Page protection

Thank you Alison, and yes, the page went blank. Well, I was going to undo the request too but I see you got to it first. It took a while to revert the vandalism on both the talk page, has you may see, becuase no admin was immediantly present, but I suppose he was dealt with. Thank you for undoing the request too. Ciao! ;) --♣ẼгíćЏ89♣ (talk) 07:13, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yep! It's all sorted now, and thanks for reporting it, too - Alison 07:15, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Alison. Looking at this edit made by you, it looks like he's not a sock of Hornetman16. If that is the case, then who is he a sock of. D.M.N. (talk) 07:45, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, that account is not Hornetman16 (talk · contribs). I know who the sockmaster is and have contacted them via email, asking for an explanation - Alison 07:50, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I take it you can't reveal here who the sockmaster is. Could you e-mail me with the name with the sockmaster account, in case they have been with WP:PW before. On that note, I think we should leave a note about this at WT:PW... D.M.N. (talk) 07:54, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Not yet, please. There are actually two, separate sockmasters here, over a number of accounts. Before anything further happens, I'd like them to have an opportunity to provide an explanation if possible. Thanks - Alison 07:58, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have had extensive email correspondence with the real Hornetman16 in the past, and he has claimed on numerous occasions that he is being framed. Seeing as this has turned out to be true, this may call for a review of his ban. Thoughts? The Hybrid 08:07, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Even if this one is not his, he's had plenty confirmed in the past. SirFozzie (talk) 08:08, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
What Foz says above. I've checkusered his sock account enough times in the past and his last confirmed sock was only some weeks back. Right now, I'm trying to discern what's proven and what's not as I'm certain there will be an unban request at a later date. Just not right now! :) I need to run checks as early as I can to ensure the checkuser data doesn't go stale. But yes, he's already got quite a history on here - Alison 08:16, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough, as you're the one with all of the information, I will trust your judgment. Cheers ^^ The Hybrid 08:19, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm struggling to take the fact that a few good faith editors are involved in this. I need to trawl through the archives of WP:PW to see when it was last brought up. D.M.N. (talk) 09:11, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Like I said, please ... just chill for the moment - Alison 09:15, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
OK. Sorry for a little over-reaction. As I said earlier, I wanted to clarify the above with you. Thanks, D.M.N. (talk) 09:17, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, sorry. The thing is, there is no good explanation for this behavior on the part of the sockpuppeteers. I'll log off and go to bed to clear my mind, as I'm obviously exhibiting some bad behavior myself right now. Cheers, The Hybrid 09:23, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK. I think I need a break with some tea and cookies. ;) D.M.N. (talk) 09:26, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Eh, pop in some old NWA/WCW tapes (something with Sting versus Flair), and relax, it'll all get taken care of in the end :) SirFozzie (talk) 09:32, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No question. It is obvious that due to his previous sock puppeteering history we cannot endorse his unbanning. Take your time Alison. We trust that you will resolve this issue. --UnquestionableTruth-- 09:36, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Let me just say before this goes any further, that everyone at WP:PW really thanks you for helping us clear all of this up. iMatthew T.C. 10:46, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm aware this was a while ago, but something seems suspicious to me here. iMatthew T.C. 23:03, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yep, something is suspicious. The contributions of The gold standard of sexy account suggests he's a sock of Steelerfan-94. D.M.N. (talk) 07:43, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Absolutely. And we've all heard the common stores of another family member creating an account, when it generally is just the user creating a sock. iMatthew T.C. 09:53, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback

It's not like I'm a very active rc-patroller at this project, but I do have some rather obscure pages on my watchlist and find I need to revert vandalism every now and then. Would that be sufficient to get access to the rollback function here? (I'm used to having it elsewhere, so I get kind of frustrated without it - however: having it would probably only save me some 6-8 clicks a month or something, so it's really no big deal ;o) Regards, Finn Rindahl (talk) 08:55, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

 Done - have fun! :) - Alison 09:00, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! Finn Rindahl (talk) 09:03, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I am aiming to nominate this article for GA and to be a FA on 21 June. If you can suggest any improvements to the article please let me know.--Vintagekits (talk) 12:36, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

User:Bennet556, back again

This time he's using his full real-life name: User:Kristopher James Owen Nimbley. By the way, Bennet556 is himself a reincarnation of User:Nimbley6 and User:Nimbley112007.

Do we have any recourse to keep him out more permanently, rather than playing whack-a-mole forever? This kid is just not getting the point. Kevin Forsyth (talk) 14:45, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Confirmed and blocked again. Whack-a-mole for the moment, I'm afraid. He's awfully easy to spot, though. If it goes on too long, I'll apply a rangeblock - Alison 22:48, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Please E-mail me

I don't have E-mail set up for my account it never seems to work I dunno why but it never sends me that message or what ever. You can Probably bring t up on my talk page or give me the subject it's on or what ever. <font-family:"Tahoma">ZACH 20:23, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Message from User:Jc37

Jc37 is having computer issues, but was able to send me an email, and requested I give you the following message:

Please let User:Alison know that thatcher performed the checkuser on PatPeter. He seemed confused, and so I responded and asked follow-up questions, but even though I left notes/questions on his talk page twice, he hasn't answered. Though I note that something similar also happened when thatcher performed the CU on Pastorwayne. So perhaps it's something to do with some process or potocol that the CU doesn't answer questions? Anyway, I don't understand, but I'll presume that Alison would, so please let her know.

--Kbdank71 13:38, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for that. I'll followup with the checkuser later! - Alison 17:42, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thank to Kbdank71 for posting for me, and thanks for checking it out Alison.
Being able to post is a temporary measure, it looks like I won't be able to for some time. Just thought I should confirm the comments while this is still working : ) - jc37 23:56, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Socks

Hi Alison is it possible you could work your magic here please. Go raibh maith agat. BigDuncTalk 14:11, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for looking in Alison I was just wanting it confirmed that they are the same, as the editor has said that he has more accounts. BigDuncTalk 17:37, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, same, and yes there were other accounts. All blocked now. That particular vandal will not be able to create any more abusive accounts via their ISP for some time, too - Alison 17:40, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thats great Alison thanks very much :) BigDuncTalk 17:42, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Tom Ketchum

Hey - there is a CAT:RFU unblock request from Tom Ketchum (talk · contribs) that needs to be handled by a checkuser. Can you look at it and take care of it? Jayjg blocked this user saying that he is a sock of a particular banned user. (He emailed me the banned user's name and known socks.) I looked at the contributions and, see irreconcilable dissimilarities, which I have commented on at User_talk:Jpgordon#Tom_Ketchum.C2.A0.28talk.C2.A0.C2.B7_contribs.29. Jpgordon said that the only relationship between Tom Ketchum and the banned user is that they both used the same dynamic IP for a two-day period. Jayjg said that there is other evidence of wrongdoing and that I do not have all of the facts. I am assuming that Jpgordon doesn't want to handle this himself since he is an arbiter and needs to remain neutral (my assumption). Can you look into it and make a determination on the unblock request? Thanks. --B (talk) 18:09, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, B. I'll look into it here, and re-run the checkuser, etc. I'll have to contact Josh, however, to get the full picture as there may be evidence I'm not aware of which may not have been disclosed for privacy reasons. I'll get back to you both - Alison 18:15, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. --B (talk) 18:16, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for looking into it. I'm confused, but I trust your judgment. He forgot to log in and edited from his DSL IP - 72.1.133.179 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log). Should that be hard blocked? Or are you keeping an eye on it so it doesn't matter? --B (talk) 21:36, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If I believe there is a certain checkuser who has regularly abused his privileges in such areas, what is there I can do? I have complained several times about this certain checkuser in the past abusing his administrator powers, let alone checkuser powers. The Evil Spartan (talk) 21:40, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

CheckUser

I think User:Bugman94 is up to socking again. Please check. Cheers! Mww113 (talk) 20:26, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

And how is the HMan search going? iMatthew T.C. 20:27, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
User:SChaos1701 needs CheckUser too, it might be HornetMan, or the imposter Steelerfan-94. D.M.N. (talk) 21:12, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

please could you take a look at a page

[3] and tell me what you think? Email me if you prefer it to discussing here. I believe similar pages are usually deleted, IMHO. Sticky Parkin 22:42, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I archived this report because you responded to it. If it needs to be reopened, please let me know. Shalom (HelloPeace) 22:56, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That's perfect, thanks. I think the rangeblock should hold matters for some time. One sock appeared since on my userpage but that was it - Alison 00:07, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Could you possibly notify Mww113 about the thread too please? I saw she made a note. Thanks! SwirlBoy39 00:08, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yep - she knows! (Mww113 is a gurl?? Didn't know that!) - Alison 00:06, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sock advice

Alison, you've been very helpful in the past about sock puppets of community-banned James Salsman (LossIsNotMore et al.). I've had a new user pegged as his latest sock since its creation, but James has vowed to make his socking harder to catch, and my idea that his IP ranges need to be checked monthly is of course difficult to work. My only real evidence is style of language and fixation of edits and knowing it when I see it. The user I have in mind has only edited in relation to Ron Paul, almost always skirting the borders of BLP, with one exception for Bo Diddley. I got him blocked for 3RR but he is retaining familiar single-mindedness. Could you provide me a little guidance on this talk as to how to proceed? Finding really good behavioral matches is very time-consuming and I have succeeded in outing him once or twice before. Every time we get him we flush out a whole nest. Thank you. JJB 17:18, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

New Irish article

You'd be so proud of me! I created a new article about an Irish radio journalist, but I am at a loss as to find some good sources. Maybe they're all in Irish, I don't know. This is where you come in! Please help me. :) Mike H. Fierce! 18:17, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You've responded to other people and not me! I'm crying into my pillow! :'( Mike H. Fierce! 00:11, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Mike, I am so proud of you, dude! :) You totally rawk and you know it! I'm quite the fan of Doireann Ní Bhríain, as it happens, and didn't know she didn't have an article. I'll have a dig around and get some stuff to add. Beats administrivia any day :) - Alison 00:42, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The one thing that's really pressing is that we need a birthdate for her article. She has an e-mail address at her independent radio producer profile; maybe you could send off for verification on a publication or something that may have her birthdate. I hate reading bios that don't have (born ________, ____) Mike H. Fierce! 00:47, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I can do that. Leave it with me ;) - Alison 00:48, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I figured she is probably in her mid or late 50s at this point, but I didn't want to estimate and put something on there that I didn't know for sure. Mike H. Fierce! 00:50, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there Alison. I looked at a SSP report recently, but I think there are more sockpuppets as well. Could you have a look at the report and possibly run a checkuser, and find the other sockies? Thanks very much. Steve Crossin (talk)(email) 00:29, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there!

Hello! This is the same Razorflame from the Simple English Wikipedia. I've been working more over here on the English Wikipedia, and I am also currently undergoing admin coaching, and I respect you a lot here. I was just wondering if you could look over my contributions and give me a review or a little bit of advice here? Thanks, Razorflame 02:16, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Usernames

Hello Alison, I have a question for you reguarding Hornetman16. I'm sure you know him as ChristianMan16 on Simple. He was told on Meta to request a name change to fix his unified login, but of course he is blocked from changing anything. Since you're are an Admin here, and you know who he is on Simple, could you see if you possibly could change his username - only for the sake of his unified login. And he is not asking to be unblocked, just to change his username to fix login. Would it be possible? Thanks --  AmericanEagle  21:42, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

CHU is that way. However, contact WJB, EVula, Deskana, etc. for more details b/c Alison is not a bureaucrat. :-/ miranda 01:49, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
As Miranda says, I'm not a bureaucrat. However, I'm actively working on this and should have it sorted soon. Please check out m:Steward requests/SUL requests#User:ChristianMan16 and commons:User talk:Alison#Question for the latest stuff - Alison 18:44, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Any update on the other situation concerning Hornetman16? Thanks, D.M.N. (talk) 18:49, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I'm on it :) Just busy right now ... - Alison 18:52, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
OK. I just wondered, I didn't want it to "drift off into the distance". :P D.M.N. (talk) 18:55, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

ChristianMan16 's global account has now been deleted. Can you come onto IRC so we can coordinate the next steps? WjBscribe 19:11, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yep! - Alison 19:15, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Good work! --  AmericanEagle  19:43, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, this is  Done, apart from a bit of paperwork. He's up and running now :) - Alison 20:17, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Now, the other situation. You working on it yet? iMatthew T.C. 20:18, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yep!! DMN asked me earlier above, too. Working on it ... just as soon as I can catch my breath here - Alison 20:20, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thanks. I know what you mean, so take your time. iMatthew T.C. 20:23, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Niamh Kavanagh

So I saw her present the Irish vote on Eurovision 2008 finally, and you're right, you don't look much like her, at least not anymore. She's gained a fair bit of weight...your face is better than hers. ;) Mike H. Fierce! 08:42, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unblock Request

I just wanted to point this out to you. I assume this is one in a series of checkuser blocks on everyone who edited from some IP. I don't know if the story is legit, but thought you should know. --Selket Talk 17:50, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Selket. I've followed up on their talk page - Alison 09:27, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Checkuser question

Hi Alison. This question is concerning Wikipedia:Abuse_reports/217.87.x.x#Concerning_217.87.x.x. There is an IP hopping vandal on a dynamic IP that has basically forced us to range block a big range of a popular German ISP. A user who edits from that IP said that all or part of this range is a transparent proxy. If (big if) this whole range is transparent proxies, do you have the ability to detect and block the underlying IP? Thanks. --B (talk) 01:45, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If you have a free moment

Mind updating my talk page code? I'm trying to figure out how to archive it (it's been three months or so since I have) :D SirFozzie (talk) 08:49, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

lol - anything for you, Foz :) I've been meaning to write to you - congrats on the Register article the other day. Well done :) - Alison 08:50, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
All ' fixed up' :) - Alison 08:59, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Blah! Forgot the cardinal sin of being interviewed. :) SirFozzie (talk) 09:09, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Allegedly Compromised Account

I told him to contact you about it, but for some reason he hasn't. My adoptee, User:The SRS, claims that his account has been hacked. Apparently it isn't that big of a deal to him (*o*), so I guess put it on the bottom of your to-do list, but could you please look into it? Cheers Alison, The Hybrid 09:01, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's not been hijacked, far as I can see. Not unless someone in his house is doing it - Alison 09:26, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for checking on that, Alison. Hmm, so, he was probably lying. Any advice on where to go from here? It would appear that he is doing this to avoid editing the mainspace while still keeping his userspace without suffering the consequences (yes this is a run-on sentence :P). I'm not really sure what to do now. Cheers, The Hybrid 09:35, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Suggest to him that it's time to start treating Wikipedia like an encyclopedia-building project, and not something like MySpace. People turn a blind eye to a lot of myspacey social-networking on here, but there has to be some kinda work done too. That's why we're here. You could point out that people have been blocked in the past for fooling around in userspace without editing and maybe you could suggest they join a Wikiproject or something, that would get them jump-started into mainspace editing? - Alison 09:41, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, that's the thing. iMatthew did all of that; the adoption was a last-ditch effort on my part to save him after iMatt explained to him that he could end up blocked, pointed him to WP:PW and the like. Things seemed to be going well, he asked me to write up a curriculum to help him learn the policies, he cleaned up his signature abuse (transclusion to bypass the 255 characters) and the like. However, then he went on a wikibreak, supposedly. He's back to his old ways, but now he's been caught with his hand in the proverbial cookie-jar. While supposedly on break he's been myspacing it up, with a notice on his page about hacking. I didn't notice either of these things, which I have no excuse for, but iMatthew did notice the myspace violations reappearing, and called him on it. He claimed to be hacked, and here we are now. My gut tells me to give him a final warning, but I really don't want to. If you think that I should, I will, but I'm not sure that's the answer. Cheers, The Hybrid 09:52, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ufff. I dunno. It sounds like he's just not into editing the encyclopedia. You could possibly post a request to ANI to ask an admin to give him an ultimatum. It sounds like he needs it, and that multiple people are wasting their time in trying to help him "get with the program" - Alison 09:58, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'll message him, and give him a week. If he isn't all together by then I'll start the ANI thread. *Sigh* - oh well. Thanks :) The Hybrid 10:01, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Night Owl

I see that you're also burning the midnight oil. I hope you get some rest. :) I'm heading offline now. I wish status bot would tell people that, but I guess we'll have to wait a while again. Tiggerjay (talk) 09:27, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Heh - thanks, Tiggerjay. Good night to you, too :) And yeah, statusbot has been b0rk'd for ages now. Dunno what's wrong there as sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't - Alison 09:31, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It appears that some other bots have popped up in it's place and used the same framework, so it starts to work once in a while, however it looks like the sys admins have finally shutdown all of the status-bot like tools since they're beginning to affect server performance due to the shear number of edits it is performing all the time. A couple of people have suggested some "bug fixes" that would permit it to run on MediaWiki itself and be far more efficient, but they keep getting shot down, oh well. Tiggerjay (talk) 09:42, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh and hey - I didn't know you were in Santa Clara, too :) Cool! I'm in downtown San Jose - Alison 09:34, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh yes, Santa Clara County for my life, raised in San Jose. Great place to live, wouldn't move anywhere else except for the housing prices. :) Tiggerjay (talk) 09:42, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

thieved ???

Thieved your userpage? Hmm, I recall that you GFDL'ed it. But hey, it looked great! I just had to have it.... Tiggerjay (talk) 09:46, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, hey, thieved is a good thing - hence my explicit comment about "Feel free to steal this style" back then. I'm so glad you liked it :) Heh - I've kinda moved on to other - better? - things since then, as User:ArielGold showed up and completely re-did mine! - Alison 09:49, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, User:ArielGold has done some nice work, something to aspire too. :) Tiggerjay (talk) 15:35, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
And I stole my signature style from you :-) Tomeasytalk 15:43, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

another polscience?

I am not sure, if this is the right place to put this, but I have seen that you have found many sock puppets of user: polscience in the past. I have a suspicion, not really evidence, that a new avatar is with us. I am suspicious, because the new user jumps into polscience's favorite discussion and it is equally difficult to follow his arguments. Also his driving motivation seems to be similar, i.e., rather to criticize status quo than providing constructive propositions. So, if possible check user: TurkeyKnight. My sincere apologies, if my suspicion is wrong. Tomeasytalk 14:26, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rather obvious, from the edits, I'd have thought.  Confirmed - as Polscience (talk · contribs), the following;

Checkuser

Hey, can you do a checkuser here? User:Crofty 4000 and User:Wwe fan 5000, seem very similar. -- iMatthew T.C. 14:54, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
