Mahudi is a village near the river Sabarmati. This village is in Mansa Taluka of Gandhinagar District. Gandhinagar is 35 km. away and Ahmedabad is 70 km. away. Nearby town is Vijapur, which is 6 km. away. Mahudi is famous for Jinalaya Jain temple of Shri Ghantakarna Mahavir. It is a centre of pilgrimage for the Jains devotees. There are lakhs of people from different religions offering prayers besides Jain devotees. 'Yognistha Acharya Bhagwant Shrimad BuddhiSagarsuri Maharaj Sahebji' had observed a long period of penance here and had inspired the construction of new temple. Devotees offer `sukhadi', which after offering, is eaten within the temple complex. Tradition forbids the carrying away of such offerings outside premises. Large and clean sarai offers comfortable stay to the pilgrims.

Mahudi Tirth

Historicity : In ancient times, this place was known as Madhupuri. The idols and artistic remains found from the hollow of the earth show that this place is nearly 2000 years old. The inscription in the Brahmi script also show its antiquity.

The ancient and beautiful Mulnayak Bhagawana Padmaprabhu, was formally reinstalled by guidance of 'Yognishta Acharyadev Shrimad Buddhisagarsurisvarji' in the newly built temple in the year 1974 of the Vikram era (1917 as English Calendar).

Shri Ghantakarna Mahavir idol was installed in the new temple under observation and guidance of 'Acharya Bhagwant Shrimad Buddhisagar Suriswarji Maharaj Saheb' in the year 1974 (1917) of the Vikram era. Mahudi reclamied its title as Mahudi Tirth or Tirtha. The idol of Shri Ghantakarna Mahavir is very miraculous. Thousands of pilgrims with faith and devotion, come here to fulfill their desires. Every year, on the fourteenth day of the dark half of the month of Aso, the ceremony of charitable offering is celebrated in the Jain way in the temple of Shri Ghantakarna Mahavir.

Lord Ghantakarna Mahavir

Lord Ghantakarna Mahavir was a Kshatriya king named Tungabhadra, was popularly named Mahabal for his ferocious strength. He protected religious people, caste and virtuous women and, unmarried girls from robbers and dacoits. He primarily used a bow and arrows for defense apart kept heavy Mace (club) as His Weaponry. He liked sounds of Bell(ghant) and also He had Bell(ghant) Shaped ears so he was commonly known as 'Ghant(Bell) Karna(Ears)' Mahavir(Great Warrior). Shri Ghantakarna Mahavir Dev always helps those who have faith in him. He was very fond of Sukhadi (made from Jaggery, Flour, and Ghee or clarified butter). Therefore, there is a custom of offering Sukhadi as prasad to him. Sukhadi should be strictly consumed in premises only.

Temple

Mahudi Tirth is a witness to lakhs of pilgrimes each year. The force behind this miraculous Temple is Shri Ghantakarna Mahavir Dev. Under guidance of Shrimad Buddhisagarji Maharaj Saheb the Tirth was built. When he saw jains running here n there to other temples and shrines for fulfillment of wishes and protection, He felt the need of a powerful jain deity whom people could pray n ask for divine help and protection from evil. He did hard 'Saadhna' (Meditation) for 3 days and with his vital powers he assessed Shri Ghantakarna Mahavir Dev 'pratyaksha' through 'havan' fire and he bounded him to protect and welfare for peoples. He immediately draw his image (flashed from fire) and later an idol was made from a river side rock since marble would take time to be delivered from Rajasthan. Shrimad BuddhiSagar Maharaj Sahebji made the idol lively by putting "Praan" (Lively Power) into it. Since then lakhs of people have experienced the miracles and fulfillment for their wishes through Lord Shri Ghantakarna Mahavir Dev in personal n professional fronts. The tirth has brought tremendous prosperity to all villagers and followers With each passing day the "Mahima" (Popularity n Prosperity) of Mahudi Tirth is increasing in multiples day by day the only one of its kind in India.

In this shrine there is another larger temple with a 22-inch marble Idol of Bhagawan Padmaprabh sitting in padmasana (lotus) posture, reinstalled by Acharya Shrimad Buddhisagarji M.S. Gurudev.

One more temple known as Guru Mandir was built later with idol of Acharya Shrimad Buddhisagarji Suriswarji M.S. Gurudev(after His holy death) besides Lord Ghantakarna Mahavir's Temple.

A similar Idol was simultaneously placed at Vijapur Jain Temple on the place where His last rites were performed. Samadhi of Gurudev.

Sukhadi

The 'Prasad' (food after being offered to the deity first) called 'Sukhadi' made up with pure Ghee(clarified butter), wheat flour and jaggery. The sukhadi has to be eaten in the temple premises itself and the devotees are prohibited from taking outside the temple premises, as it is considered inauspicious to do so. The temple authorities see to it that hot 'sukhadi' is supplied on time. Sometimes huge quantities of it are required to cope with the rush but the temple staff is equal to the task. Endless stream of plates filled with 'sukhadi come out of the kitchen. It comes in different quantities depending on the requirements of the devotees.

Important Events

'Kali Chaudas' Is one of most important event in Mahudi. That day at least two lakhs people visits here. On that day people come for making knots on thread in which 108 times they chant Mantras and after every mantra read a bell rings. They sits around 'Hanvan' (fire) and read mantras and then spill ghee and other materials into Havan.

'Dhaja Mohatsav' is event in which every year the flags of Dehrasar (Jain Temple) is changed with new ones. On that day too thousands of people are cited.

Foundation

Temple Foundation stone was laid on 1916 and was completed in 1917 (Gujarati Jain Calender Vikram Era 1974 Magsar Sud Chatt 6). The Temple Complex land was offered(donated) by (Native of Mahudi itself) Seth Shri Vadilal Kalidas Vora one of the follower of 'Yognishta Acharyadev Shrimad Buddhisagarsurisvarji Maharaj Sahebji'. The formed trust was name 'Shri Mahudi (Madhupuri) Jain Murtipujak Trust' by Maharaj Sahebji itself. The Tirth foundation stone layer Shri Vadilal Kalidas Vora was bestowed as First Trustee of the Mahudi Tirth. His legacy is continued to his family heads there after. Apart from Shri Vadilal Kalidas Vora, three more trustees were appointed from village itself - Shri Punamchand Lallubhai Shah, Shri Kankkuchand Narsidas Mehta and Shri Himmatlal Hakamchand Mehta.

This Beautiful Derasar (Temple) is located with Samadhi of Shri Buddhisagarji M.S. at Vijapur a major Jain Devotee's attraction.
