Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at RCDB

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is a roller coaster attraction at Epcot at Walt Disney World.[3][4][5][6] The ride will be manufactured by Vekoma.[7] Based on the Marvel Cinematic Universe Guardians of the Galaxy films, the attraction will be the first at Walt Disney World to feature characters from the Marvel Universe.[8][9] It will replace the Universe of Energy pavilion, which closed on August 13, 2017.[5]

Originally set to open in 2021, the attraction was delayed to summer 2022 as part of the park's 40th anniversary celebration, which is part of Walt Disney World's 50th Anniversary celebration, since the opening was postponed indefinitely following the closure of the park due to the coronavirus pandemic.[10] Following the announcement, the attraction will become part of the Wonders of Xandar Pavilion, the first Other-world Showcase Pavilion.[11]

On April 4, 2022, The Walt Disney Company announced that Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind would officially open on May 27, 2022.[1]

History

Construction of the attraction.

The ride was announced as part of an overall overhaul of Epcot at the 2017 D23 Expo.[4] On August 13, 2017, Ellen's Energy Adventure was closed so that construction could begin on the attraction.[12]

Construction began in late August 2017. The existing Universe of Energy show building was to be reused and retrofitted for the new attraction; the roller coaster itself would be housed in a new, massive show building situated backstage behind the Universe of Energy building and the PLAY! pavilion.[13][14]

At D23 Japan in 2018, it was confirmed that the ride would be one of the world's longest enclosed roller coasters and that the ride would open during Walt Disney World's 50th anniversary, which indicated an opening during late 2021. On May 4, 2018, the Disney Parks Blog released a video stating that 960 truckloads of concrete had been poured for the foundation of the new show building.[3] The first track piece of the ride was installed in November 2018.[15]

The name of the ride, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, was announced on August 25, 2019, at the D23 Expo 2019.[16] Filming for the ride commenced in October 2021.[17] Guardians of the Galaxy film series cast members Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, and Glenn Close will reprise their roles from the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Peter Quill / Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, and Irani Rael / Nova Prime, respectively.[18] The first footage from the ride was released in March 2022.[19]

Music

On April 19, 2022, Walt Disney Imagineering announced six songs that will be utilized for this attraction.[20] The songs will be played randomly as opposed to being designated to a certain ride vehicle.

The songs chosen for the ride include the following:
