I'm looking for a good third party source that defines the fued between these two DJ's. I feel it is worth mentioning in both articles, but it doesn't stand to the litnus test without a good third party source.

"There's a party going eown" song

One of my friends has a ringtone that includes a clip of this song:

And there's a party going down/at Rieland Drive/with lots of fine, fine girls/who like to have fun with the girls/who get the bestest times

Attempts to google the lyrics have not turned up one it. What is this song, what genre is it, and who sings it? Wiwaxia (talk) 04:43, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Have you asked your friend? It would seem logical that they would know what the song is that is on their phone. Dismas|(talk) 04:45, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
She says she was just scrolling through ringtones and landed on this one without checking where it was from. No one in the van knew the song. Wiwaxia (talk) 05:28, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm... Yeah. It is proving to be particularly hard to find on Google. Which leads me to believe that it may be by some unsigned band who through some deal may have sold their songs to the phone company in an effort to get "discovered". Or some other similiar situation. The phone company gets a cheap but catchy tune, and the band gets a few cents and hope that they'll sign a contract. Dismas|(talk) 05:47, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Guitar effects for bass

What problems could I possibly encounter if I were to use an effects pedal which is supposed to be used with a normal electric guitar for my bass guitar? In my neck of the woods bassists generally do not use effects pedals with a bass guitar so it'll be pretty difficult for me to get hold of one for my bass.Leif edling (talk) 08:28, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The only problem you will probably encounter is that some effects pedals won't sound too great - guitar effects are designed to affect different frequency ranges than bass effects, a guitar wahwah will not really change a bass signal all that much because the frequency range the wah affects is not very pronounced in a bass. Other than that, just experiment and see if you can find something that sounds good - I've been using guitar effects for bass and vice versa for years without ever damaging any of the equipment. -- Ferkelparade π 08:41, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

the main probem is that one does not find the effects that one desires, in bass playing one wouod need some heavy distain to hold notes for much longer without replucking the string, see type o negative this is not achievable on a normal guitar effects pedal. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.115.175.247 (talk) 10:07, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

what's the name of this Japanese sport/art?

From a book which is a century old:

A unique Japanese feat is to tear pieces of paper into the form of butterflies and launch them into the air about a vase full of flowers; then with a fan to keep them in motion, making them light on the flowers, fly away, and return, after the manner of several living butterflies, without allowing one to fall to the ground.

That's all the author wrote about it, so I'm looking for a name for this---ideally, a free video showing it. Can you help? --Ayacop (talk) 16:44, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

UEFA World Cup Qualifying

I understand that each group winner qualifies directly and then 8 second place teams play head-to-head home-and-away series for the 4 remaining spots. How are these 2nd place pairings decided? Are they random or seeded in some way? —D. Monack talk 00:25, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As you probably noticed, neither the Wikipedia pages 2010 FIFA World Cup qualification and 2010 FIFA World Cup qualification (UEFA) nor the FIFA guide to qualification (pdf) fully explain the format for the playoffs. Wikipedia page 2010 FIFA World Cup qualification (UEFA) explains how they decide which teams go through but not how the playoffs are arranged. If you see 2006 FIFA World Cup qualification (UEFA play-off) you'll find how they did it last time: the runners-up were divided into 2 pools (effectively seeded and unseeded), and then a draw was held. (As a sidenote, I seem to recall in the past there has been controversy over the play-offs when FIFA/UEFA were seen to be fixing it to ensure bigger teams did not come up against each other in the play-offs, so if they haven't specified the rules in advance there may be further controversy come 2010.) --Maltelauridsbrigge (talk) 15:39, 17 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. It's kind of absurd that they wouldn't establish rules ahead of the tournament, but from what I know about UEFA & FIFA it doesn't surprise me. Pretty shady. —D. Monack talk 07:02, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nintendo

1. What is the most obscure Nintendo 64 game? 2. What is the most obscure N64 game made by Nintendo themselves? February 15, 2009 (talk) 01:57, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There's no way that can be quantitatively decided. Give me a definition of "obscure" and I'll give you an answer. Paragon12321 02:35, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Obscure is a very relative term. There may be some games whose sales figures were appallingly low (say, in the thousands or hundreds). Also, there are likely "unliscenced" games which were compatable with the system, but were not "authorized" for use therin. Are you looking for the worst selling games, or what? --Jayron32.talk.contribs 02:41, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The most obscure game is probably something like "Hungry Hedgehog". Only one cartridge was made. It barely functioned - when it functioned at all. The Nintendo 64 was losing popularity. The game was abandoned. Only two people ever saw the title screen come up. The cartridge (including the faulty eprom burner) are in a landfill somewhere now. -- kainaw 02:49, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Is the above serious? I find it hard to believe that a "production run" of one cartridge was made. To fire up the entire assembly process for a single cartridge seems silly... --Jayron32.talk.contribs 03:04, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting that if you put "Hungry Hedgehog" into google, the first thing that comes up is "Kainaw's Hungry Hedgehog"... Having said that, I don't doubt there were games with only one cartridge, made by the fans... that didn't work --WORM | MЯOW 07:40, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Exactly... what do you think an eprom burner was used for? That is how the fans made their own games for all the consoles until they started coming out on disks. Unfortunately, my second-hand eprom burner was terrible and the "make your own cartridge" cartridge wouldn't stay together (the insides shifted around when you put the cartridge in). I'm certain that I'm not the only person who attempted to make a game for a console machine, so there are certainly many other 1-cartridge games out that and some of them may actually work. -- kainaw 15:15, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The landfill thing reminds me to ET for NES. The cartridges of that game actually rest in a landfill in New Mexico. --Constructor 15:21, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, not quite. It was made for the Atari 2600, not the NES. -- Captain Disdain (talk) 07:42, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The most obscure game would likely be famous for having that property. —Tamfang (talk) 16:59, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

ESRB rating

I just saw a commercial for "Shaun White Snowboarding" that said it had a rating RANGE from E 10+ to T (Everyone ten and over to Teen). How is that possible? --MrE1 (talk) 02:24, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The game isn't out yet, so it doesn't have a rating yet. The range is just a guesstimate by the developers. Paragon12321 02:33, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It's coming out on multiple platforms, different versions may have different ratings. (I'd guess E10+ for the wii version and T for 360/PS3)-- Mad031683 (talk) 15:43, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
According to ESRB : T on "Windows PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3", E 10+ on "PlayStation 2, PSP". There is also "Shaun White Snowboarding Road Trip" for Wii rated E 10+, and "Shaun White Snowboarding DS" rated E.
They're listed as four different games, so I would assume that the PC, 360 and PS3 games are all essentially the same, but that the PSP/PS2 version has different content. While the versions for Nintendo platforms are different enough that they've even got slightly different titles.
For future reference, the final authority on game ratings seems to be this web-site : [2] APL (talk) 17:39, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Question about a music style, genre and/or sub-genre of a song

Can someone say to me the style and the genre and/or the subgenre of this song??
The name of the music is chuva agora, from a brazillian band nove mil anjos.

189.0.201.73 (talk) 18:24, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Portuguese wikipedia confirmed my impression: "Nove Mil Anjos é uma banda de pop rock brasileira." - Nove Mil Anjos is a Brasilian pop rock band. --NorwegianBlue talk 18:37, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
This is band is not pop rock. I've heard a band that a sounded little similar to this song of the band, but i dont remenber the name of the artist or the genre that the band played.
PS: I am brazillian and know the portuguese wikipedia article. But this band is not pop rock (the article in protuguese wikipedia, is new, so people that know the real genre of the band didnt gone to the article yet to change the genre).189.0.201.73 (talk) 19:14, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I listened to the clip one more time. I suppose you'll agree that it's rock? I agree that the sound is heavier that what you'd usually call "pop". To my ears, it doesn't have any characteristics that are particularly Brazilian, except for the language of course. I'm afraid I can't be of more help with the sub-genre. --NorwegianBlue talk 20:11, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Musical sub-genres are generally quite contentious, generally because most bands (and their fans) don't like to be pigeonholed into a genre, and all genres carry some connotation with them that people don't want to have. The genre associations often have little to do with the style of music in terms of what it sounds like, but more upon the "image" the band has cultivated. Is ACDC hard-rock or heavy metal? Is Skid Row hair metal or not? Is Red Hot Chilli Peppers alternative rock, funk rock, alternative funk, funk-punk, or what? If they are popular in their own nation, they are "pop", if they play 2 guitars, a bass, and a drum kit they are "rock". Anything else is useless bickering over arbitrary distinctions. --Jayron32.talk.contribs 20:49, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Jayron32 I was talking about the genre and sub-genre of the song, and not about the band genre. I posted this video here because, i was thinking that someone that know what genre is would listen the music and easily say the genre and sub-genre of the music. I mean, like I said I remember listening some bands like this , but now i dont remember who those bands are.201.79.105.113 (talk) 22:57, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Now i remember the genre that I was talking about. So, will make another question. Is the genre of this song funk rock??? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.0.160.79 (talk) 18:44, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

See Jayron32's answer to the question Coverage of heavy metal albums, tagged by genre below, which I think answers your question. You are requesting us to present opinion as it it were fact, regardless of whether you're asking for the sub-genre of the song, the album it appeared in, or the band. --NorwegianBlue talk 20:02, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Al Bundy song?

I remember there was one episode of "Married with Children" where Al Bundy got a song tune in his head, but couldn't remember the name of the song. Of course, it didn't help that he could only vaguely hum two or three bars. I remember it drove him crazy. Did he ever find out the name of the song, and if so, what was it? Jamiroquai discography

Recently, an addition was made to Jamiroquai discography and it now includes Jamiroquai's forthcoming album. I put a topic in the discussion section wondering where this information came from so that a reference may be placed on the article so that future viewers would be able to varify the information and know that it is true. I am asking for a reference because i have not found any information anywhere else about the album title of the new album. If the user who added that information has a reference, I request it to be put on the article so that it will be verified by Wikipedia standards and improve the article. I recieved a message by an annomous user saying that i was not allowed to ask this question to the discussion section of the article for it did not improve the article. However, I think it does improve it for the future. I, myself, do not need to find the reference. The user who added the information to the article does. If this user refuses to do so, it should be removed until it has been confirmed by multiple sources so that it is not misleading. Please respond to this message and clear up this matter. --J miester25 (talk) 00:01, 17 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You should do the following things, in order, to solve this problem.
  1. Leave a friendly note on the talk page of the person that made the change, asking for a reference, and reminding them that without a reference, the information cannot stay in the article. Be as friendly and warm in tone as you can.
  2. Leave a friendly note on the talk page of the article stating the same
  3. If the person does not respond in a reasonable time, say 3-4 days, then WP:BOLDly remove the unreferenced information ONCE, and leave a talk page note explaining, in detail, why you have done so. It is very important that, if the information is returned to the article, you do not remove it again This is the path to the dark side. Do not take it.
  4. If the situation cannot be worked out between the two of you, and all of the above have been tried, then attempt dispute resolution. There are half a dozen methods for getting outside, uninvolved editors to comment on the situation. Start with WP:3O then WP:RFC then WP:MEDIATION. Somewhere along the way, enough other editors will arrive to comment. It may take a week or two, but eventually, a clear consensus of other editors will emerge which will show you how to proceed. Be aware that the consensus may not go your way but be prepared to accept what the community has determined.
Good luck with this. Again, try just talking to the guy first. You may be pleasently surprised at how well that goes, especially if you are friendly and deferential in your approach. --Jayron32.talk.contribs 12:25, 17 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Where could I find a complete list of the people in the orchestra while he worked there? 203.188.92.70 (talk) 10:18, 17 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wow. That might be hard to find on the Internet. Orchestra's may publish a playbill for a particular nights performance, but it isn't common for any organization, musical ensembles included, to regularly publish every employee they hire for every job. I doubt such information is readily availible, unless you contact the orchestra historian directly. --Jayron32.talk.contribs 10:59, 17 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It's quite common for websites of orchestras to list all their current players. But getting this information for 15-odd years ago would be a different matter. Printed programs of concerts usually list the players, so if you can get your hands on some old concert programs from that time, that might give you much of the information you need. -- JackofOz (talk) 22:02, 17 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Since Wikipedia is, after all, an online encyclopedia, one can easily go to the Jeopardy article and find the information there. Second place is worth $2000 and third place $1000. --LarryMac | Talk 19:44, 17 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
And yes, this means that the winner can occasionally win less than the others -- but the winner also gets to play again. By the way, the actual title of the show is Jeopardy!. Also by the way, in the original version of the show that started in 1964, all three players did receive their full score as a money prize. The original money values for each question were multipled by 10 when the present show started in 1984; part of that was to compensate for inflation but I'm sure part of it was also because the change to the prize structure allowed them to reward the winner more richly. The present prize levels are twice the ones established in 1984, compensating for inflation since then. --Anonymous, 21:32 UTC, October 17, 2008.

coverage of heavy metal albums, tagged by genre

Hi, I noticed recently that the "Genre" tag was removed from each release in a band's discography. Previously, you could go to a bands discography and see the specific genre associated with each individual release. This was very helpful in tagging my enormous music collection. Any plans to bring these tags back? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.128.41.193 (talk) 11:50, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Probably not. The problem with music genre at Wikipedia was that such tags were mostly unverifiable and led to endless edit wars between die-hard fans who insisted that their favorite band was NOT alternative-funk-rock, but were instead Nu-metal-funk-crossover, and then someone else would come along to say they were infact post-punk-rock-alternative, and this would go every few hours for years at a time. If you are looking for sources for this information, may I suggest [allmusic.com], which does this categorization, and is a fairly comprehensive source. --Jayron32.talk.contribs 17:32, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Or worse, I found many articles containing genres like: Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Skate Rock, Punk, Funk Rock, Fuck Core, Hardcore... and the list goes on and on and on. What is the use? The only way to make genre worth anything is to force a very limited set of genres - which will cause a huge debate and, if we are lucky, will resolve in a proper set of genres sometime in the next 30 years. Then, when someone uses an improper genre, the debate to include the genre will start the whole process over again. -- kainaw 23:08, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The problem is that people that know almost nothing (or know nothing) about the genres or the sub-genres edit the page, well we are on wikipedia and not everyone is a expert and edits by non experts occur in every article, but the problem is when people write someting wrong in a science article you can correct then and explain to the editor and show some facts. Explain to them music based things like "why new metal is not a genre of metal" or others things like that is much more difficult. Many places (mtv, radio stations, editors friends, some magazines) label things wrongly with make things more difficult. Removing the sub-genres articles would be a bad idea, because some styles and genres have veery different sub-genres (electronic music is one of them). One thing to do is remove genres that really dont exist (or make a article explaing that they where coined by the media and etc..), genres like electronica, alternative rock (this is not a genre almost any type of rock can be "alternative", is just a matter of how the artist do their music), pop (many genres can be labeled as pop)..... Last good Ivy League NFL quarterback

Okay, "good" is toos subjective for the reference desk, but given the talent on the Bengals of Cincinnati, just the last time an Ivy League QB won a game in the National Football League would be a good question. Also, what about the last to be the starting quarterback for most of a season. I'm sure there were some back in the very early days of the NFL (we're talking Leatherheads era) and maybe even some Hall of Famers, but the Ivy league schools are not known as football factories, to say the least :-) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.244.30.221 (talk) 19:06, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Surprsingly, Jay Fiedler was pretty recent, and from Dartmouth. However, just skimming www.pro-football-reference.com (their NCAA" section listsall colleges) I didn't see any QBs that started consistently from Harvard.
As the OP suspected, there is a smattering of Hall of Fame players, mostly from the very earlier years, from Ivy League schools, even one QB, Sid Luckman, who was from the days of leather helmets, I think. (Not sure when they stopped wearing them.)Somebody or his brother (talk) 22:29, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Looking through PFR (as noted above) and going through all 8 Ivy League schools, I come up with the following starting QBs in the NFL:
  • Brown No one of significance
  • Columbia Marty Domres, started 6 games for the Chargers, 24 for the Colts, and 2 for the Jets, mostly in the 1970s... Sid Luckman, already mentioned....
  • Cornell Gary Wood, started 10 games for the New York Giants in the 1960's
  • Dartmouth besides the aforementioned Jay Fiedler, there was Jeff Kemp who started 29 games for the Rams, Seahawks, 49ers and Eagles during the 1980's
  • Harvard's Ryan Fitzpatrick started 3 games for the Rams in 2005, and as mentioned is currently playing for the Bungles
  • Penn No one of significance
  • Princeton gave us Jason Garrett, the current Cowboys Offensive Coordinator and longtime backup QB to Troy Aikman.
  • Yale No one of significance.
So, as far as Ivy League QB's goes, that's about it. You have Columbia's Luckman, Dartmouth's Fiedler, and Princeton's Garrett as probably the best 3 Ivy league NFL QBs. --Jayron32.talk.contribs 23:28, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

CBS

In the article on CBS, it says the name Tiffany network refers to the preceived quality under it's founder. Does that mean their quality was good or bad?? 99.226.24.150 (talk) 22:50, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Tiffany & Co. was once considered the finest jewllers in America, and their name became associated with quality. Much as, in the American idiom, it became popular to call something "The Cadillac of..." some industry, being associated with Tiffany meant you were excellent quality. --Jayron32.talk.contribs 22:58, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

House movie deal with Tooth and Nail Records???

I saw online that there was a possibility that Tooth and Nail records was doing a promotional soundtrack with the upcoming movie, House, released November 7th. I was wondering how much truth is in that statement and if so, what bands will be on the soundtrack? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.137.175.59 (talk) 21:08, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What's this Anime?

I saw the opening (I think it's the opening, it might be the ending) of this random anime on Youtube. In the opening (?) sequence, there is a group of people frantically running down the street, knocking over things like airplanes and trucks. At one point, they turn into hamsters. At the end, they run into someone's house and all crowd around a television. Then, some old man pops up and gets a nosebleed. I can't remember the name of the video because it was completely in kanji (Or some sort of language I can't read). Can someone please give me the name of this anime, if they know? Please and thank you. Kikiluvscheese (talk) 18:28, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Guitar equipment for bass

I was wondering if there is any way for equipment supposed to be used with a normal (6 string) guitar (e.g. effects or amplifiers) to get damaged if I used it with a bass. Any ideas?Leif edling (talk) 03:35, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There's an earlier thread on this up above. Basically, you could do no harm to the equipment itself, but its unlikely that effects pedals designed for a guitar would work well for a bass. Most guitar effects pedals are designed to work at optimum frequencies well above what a standard bass guitar, so they often don't have the intended effect. Which is not to say that they have no effect; some rather fun and interesting stuff can come from experimentation like this; but lots of really uninteresting stuff happens too. I can't imagine anything you could do with a bass would actually damage the equipment, however. Your bass probably does not drive a significantly larger electric current than a guitar does, so I see no reason that the electronics could be affected in any ways. --Jayron32.talk.contribs 11:04, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Being Ian movie

What is the name of the movie that was being mocked in Being Ian where Ian imagines himself as a radio jockey on the roof of the high school with a monkey playing with the sound effects? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.14.117.187 (talk) 00:15, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mario

1. Will there ever be a Mario Party 9?

2. If Hudson was bought by either Sony or Microsoft, would the Mario Party series continue? If so, would Nintendo make it by themselves, or would they make it with the help of some other developer?

3. Out of Nintendo and Hudson, who owns the rights to the half-dozen or so characters who appear only in the Mario Party games?

February 15, 2009 (talk) 00:21, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Answer to #1: There's no guarantee. But I wouldn't be surprised if Mario Party stopped, since Mario Party 8 sucked.
Answer to #2: Probably not. Nintendo letting one of its major competitors earn money off of some of its biggest characters (Mario and freinds, namely), who also happen to be the biggest names in video games, would be suicide. The only way I see Mario Party continuing after being bought out by Sony or Microsoft is if something like the case with Mario Hotel and Link: The Faces of Evil on the Cdi occured. You know, Nintendo lets Sony or Microsoft use a limited number of Nintendo characters in a limited number of games as a result of a business deal that fell through.
Answer to #3: I'd say that Hudson owned the characters who only appear in the Mario Party games, but that's out of my own opinion, not fact. I just think that if these characters were owned by Nintendo, they would have appeared in at least one game outside of the Mario Party series. Kikiluvscheese (talk) 01:29, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
1. Most likely.
2. Nintendo would probably continue it themselves.
3. I'm pretty sure Ninty owns all of them, but I haven't played #7 or 8, so I can't vouch for that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Schwarzes Nacht (talkcontribs) 05:09, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

All lyrics sites are likely copyright violations, and thus illegal (they do not have permission to reprint lyrics created by someone else). We cannot recommend that you do anything illegal, though I do hear that Google will still find these sites, even though they are posting illegal material ;) --Jayron32.talk.contribs 13:45, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Seeking Answer to Trivia Question About The Sixth Sense

I am literally in the middle of a scavenger hunt and I have this seemingly simple question to answer but I can't figure it out! I need to know: What is the name of the Philadelphia street/park from “The Sixth Sense”? I guess there are a variety of answers possible but I know it isn't Washington Square or Rittenhouse, and I guess it would be a park named after a street or the answer is both the name of a street AND a park. You are my heroes if you can answer this quickly and correctly! CouplandForever (talk) 23:41, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm looking for a good third party source that defines the fued between these two DJ's. I feel it is worth mentioning in both articles, but it doesn't stand to the litnus test without a good third party source.
