This is a list of the numerous bus routes in Melbourne, Australia. They are organized by route number and by bus company.

Unlike Melbourne's train and tram networks, which are operated by one company each, Melbourne's bus network is operated by many, often local, companies.

All but three of these companies are fully funded subcontractors to the State Government (the exceptions being Skybus, National and Melbourne Bus Link, which derive varying proportions of their income from the fare revenue collected on board).

The subcontracted companies operate on a fee for service basis, where the State Government pays the full cost, and all revenue collected is returned to the Government. While there is no good reason for the bus network to not be integrated with the rest of the Public Transport system under this arrangement, which might allow it to form a useful role in the movement of people around Melbourne, the complete absence of political inertia has left Melbourne's bus network a total shambles that serves very few peoples actual travel needs and as a result, carries very few people.

The average Melbourne bus route operates every 30-40 minutes, stops at 6.40pm weekdays (although some buses, such as route 567, operate until 9:40pm), usually operate Saturday mornings and afternoons, almost certainly does not run Sundays, and are often timetabled to leave just before potentially connecting services arrive (but this seems to be getting fixed). Usually, the buses are full with the exception of a few routes that aren't really popular. Buses such as routes 508 and 510 are usually full, especially during peak hour.

Many of the not-so-popular bus routes run with only the driver aboard. For operators on the above financial arrangement, this is the ideal situation, as they collect the full payment from the Government but cleaning and fuel costs are much lower when no passengers are carried.
