Hello, thank you for the updates on the pages for [[Ty Pak]] and [[Gary Pak]], and I am so glad to know that we share common interest in topics of literature. I found these two writer's experience and writing quite unique and inspiring, and planned to find some time later to do some research about their works, and maybe add some pages for their books.

MELUS, anyone?

If anyone is interested in working with Multi-Ethnic U.S. Literature articles, leave me a note here and we'll see if we can get a group together. I've found that Multi-ethnic lit is woefully underrepresented on this site, and it would be great if we could give it the coverage it deserves. If you want to see what needs to be done, run a search for your favorite author, book, etc. and see what kind of coverage it's getting. You might also search for the list of authors in your area, e.g. List of Asian American writers, List of Cuban American writers, etc. and see who's not listed and who doesn't have a page set up. You'll see how sporadic the coverage is!

What to do: you'll probably want to sign up for a free account so that you can use a nickname instead of #s to sign your posts--and you'll need an account to create articles (but anyone can edit). To sign a post, simply add ~~~~ at the end. Then, for a brief cheat-sheet on editing pages, go to Wikipedia:How_to_edit_a_page. For creating pages, read the information at Wikipedia:Your_first_article. If you're creating a page about an author, consider using the Bio Template as a guide.

Helpful hint: You may want to start by editing existing articles as a way of learning the ropes; use the "edit preview" button to make sure your changes look the way you want them to. And when you want to start an article, the two most important things to include (to make sure your page doesn't get nominated for deletion) are 1) a comment stating the subject's notability and 2) references and/or links to reliable outside sources (not necessarily online, but you can find a lot using Google Scholar and Google Books). You don't need a full article to start a page--you can always come back later to add more. A short description of the subject will suffice, as long as you establish the subject's notability and use reliable sources. Aristophanes68 (talk) 13:48, 27 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Before Columbus Foundation

A tag has been placed on Before Columbus Foundation requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Hi, Aristophanes68, welcome to WikiProject LGBT Studies!

We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying, categorizing, and improving articles of interest to the LGBT community. Some points that may be helpful:

  • Our main aim is to help improve LGBT-related articles, so if someone asks for help with an article, please try your hardest to help them if you are able.
  • Most important discussions take place on the project's main discussion page; it is highly recommended that you watchlist it.
  • The project has several ongoing and developing activities, such as article quality assessment, peer review and a project-wide article collaboration, all of which you are welcome to take part in. We also have a unique program to improve our lower quality articles, Jumpaclass, so please consider signing up there.
  • If you have another language besides English, please consider adding yourself to our translation section, to help us improve our foreign LGBT topics.
  • If you're planning to stay, have a square in our quilt! You can put anything you want in it.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the talk page, and we will be happy to help you.

And once again - Welcome!

From what I understand, Wikiproject Literature does not cover writers, so I've removed the WP template from Morrison's talk page. The Biography Wikiproject has a subcategory for people who are affiliated with Arts and Entertainment, which includes writers. María (habla conmigo) 19:37, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I am not affiliated with WP:LIT, so you should ask one of the members there if you have comments or suggestions. It is made very clear in the mission statement, however, that they do not currently include writers in their scope, so I would suggest that you cease adding the project's template to writer talk pages until a consensus saying otherwise has been formed. I've added the Morrison article to the Arts & Entertainment workgroup for now. FYI, you added the WP:LIT template to the article, not the talk page, which is incorrect, so I've reverted it. Ron Arias

Updated DYK query On 18 March, 2008, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Ron Arias, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

Infoboxes

I like the infoboxes that you have created (if you created them), I saw the ones that you posted on some of the Puerto Rican writers articles which I created and man they look real nice. I noticed that in most you posted the info which goes inside the box, however in some you didn't. I have an idea. From now on when you post an infobox, if the article has an image, at least post that in the infobox and if the article is one that I created, I will post the rest with due time. Tony the Marine (talk) 02:09, 22 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • I must remind you, unlike Afro-Americans, Italian-Americans and so on "Puerto Rican' is not an ethnicity, it is a nationality. Take care. Tony the Marine (talk) 02:12, 22 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Calling all active WP:NOVELS members

WikiProject Novels Roll Call

WikiProject Novels is currently holding a roll call, which we hope to have annually. Your username is listed on the members list, but we are unsure as to which editors are still active within the project. If you still consider yourself an active WP:Novels editor, please add your name back to the Active Members list. Also feel free to join any of our task forces and take a look at the project's Job Centre to get involved!

Next month we will begin the coordinator election selection process. We hope to have more involvement and input this time around! More news will be forthcoming. Thanks, everyone! María (habla conmigo) 14:29, 8 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of PEN Oakland/Josephine Miles Literary Award

I have nominated PEN Oakland/Josephine Miles Literary Award, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PEN Oakland/Josephine Miles Literary Award. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. Project news
  • The Christianity project and its related projects currently have 76 FAs, 8 FLs, and 148 GAs. We gained new recognized content in each field, with 4 FAs promoted, 2 FLs, and 3 GAs. Congratulations and a big thank you to all those who worked on these articles!

Other news
  • I am still working on the categorization matter. With any luck, we should have some results by the end of the month. There are also some discussions regarding project related activities at Wikipedia:WikiProject Christianity/General Forum. One issue in particular that might be addressed is possible elections of new coordinators. Anyone interested in serving in such a capacity is more than welcome to indicate as much.

Member contest of the month
  • The previous contests are still ongoing, because of the extreme amount of time the categorization is taking me. Anyone who can bring any of the few Stub class articles among the project's 1000 most often accessed articles by the end of July will get an award. Please see the details Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Christianity#Project challenge of the month.

From the Members

Welcome to the Tenth issue of the WikiProject Christianity newsletter! Use this newsletter as a mechanism to inform yourselves about progress at the project and please be inspired to take more active roles in what we do.

It has been a long time since the last coordinators election. There is a lot for people to do, and I certainly would welcome seeing any individuals with an interest in such a position put themselves forward as candidates. I in particular would very much like to see some degree of "specialization" in the coordinators, so that, for instance, we might have someone knowledgable about some of the specific Christian faith traditions or other main subjects, like Orthodoxy, Lutheranism, Mormonism, the Jehovah's Witnesses, art, theology, and so on. If any parties who have experience with some of our faith- or- subject-based content would be interested in being candidates, I would love to see them do so. Please feel free to take part in the discussion regading what the minimum number of category items is, and how to deal with the non-qualifying categories, on the General Forum page.

Hi Aristophanes. I'd previously come across some info on this publishing/printing outfit, when digging for sources on cholsamaj with the (as yet unrealised) intention of doing an article on the latter. I've put up what I know at talk:Maya peoples. Cheers, --cjllw ʘ TALK 00:04, 31 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your AIV report

Thanks for your AIV report on the IP vandals from the Philippines vandalizing the Greg Plitt article. It would be better to protect the article for a while if the vandalism gets too intense, rather than blocking all the IPs. I will definitely watch the situation. Academic Challenger (talk) 00:05, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I am not quite sure about the simple change of paragraphs you proposed. The chapters of the definition were roughly ordered to give a chronology and an argument. I my self felt, I might get rid of the last paragraph altogether. I'll give it a thought, though. To change the sequence will require a change of the line of the argument as well (I feel) --Olaf Simons (talk) 08:27, 13 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have revised the passage in the sequence of chapters you proposed and hope I could give it a new coherence of the individual observations. It would be good if a native speaker checked the new chapter. Hope I was able to improve things. --Olaf Simons (talk) 11:31, 13 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Greg Plitt

As the vandalism has continued, I have semi-protected Greg Plitt for one month. Academic Challenger (talk) 23:01, 13 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your contributions to the page, and I am very glad to see most impressive changes so far. If you like someone else help you, I would recommend Wikipedia:Requests; subsequent pages such as Wikipedia:Requests for feedback and Wikipedia:Peer review would be better recommendation. --Gh87 (talk) 06:20, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Smallville edits

I appreciate your work on Smallville, but I thought you should know that your use of comma location is incorrect. Per WP:TQ, Wikipedia uses the British style of punctuation with quotation marks. Basically, unless the punctuation (e.g., commas, periods, etc.) is part of the actual quoted text then it goes on the outside. If it is part of the text, then it goes on the inside.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 05:10, 10 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for letting me know--I had never heard that about WP! Aristophanes68 (talk) 01:17, 28 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Page titles

Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you recently tried to give Angélico Chávez a different title by copying its content and pasting it into Angelico Chavez. This is known as a "cut and paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is needed for attribution and various other purposes. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other articles that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen. Thank you. R'n'B (call me Russ) 10:59, 27 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for letting me know. I didn't realize that I could Move it that way! Aristophanes68 (talk) 01:13, 28 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Aristophanes68. I just wanted to let you know that the reason this article's plot section has not been updated to include a lot more, other than my not knowing their complete history (despite having watched this show for years), is WP:PLOT. The reason I had cut it off the way I did was to keep people from adding more and more plot to it. I would not want this article's plot section to be close to Luke and Laura's. 22:38, 16 November 2009 (UTC)

Ed Vega

Aristophanes,

It was my pleasure. I knew Ed for some time, and he really deserved it. Thanks for the note!

All the best,

Ed Vega article is being challenged

Aristophanes,

The Ed Vega article has received tags, from an editor who appears to be challenging all of my work on Wikipedia.

The editor placed these tags on Ed Vega without any dicussion or explanation.

I wrote a response to these tags on the Ed Vega discussion page. You may want to review this response.

I could remove the tags from the Ed Vega article - but if I do so, the editor who placed them there, may simply restore them.

As the originator and principal architect of the article (and in the spirit of this article), I believe your voice should be heard in this matter.

It's up to you, Aristophanes. Ed is no longer here to defend himself. Thanks again for starting a great article about a great writer.

Hello Aristophanes, thanks for telling me about this destructive IP, I already reported him to an admin for a temporary block. After that we have to keep an eye out for him in case it needs to be extended. Good day!--Petergriffin9901 (talk) 21:59, 14 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Help with Nelson Denis photo

Aristophanes,

I helped to edit the Ed Vega article a few months ago, and uploaded some photos into Ed's article. I remember that you sent me a note, and I was glad, because the article looked really great and Ed deserved it!

The photos were removed and other photos which I uploaded were attacked.

A photo of mine is now being attacked in the article Nelson Antonio Denis. The copyright permission was e-mailed to OTRS months ago, and it appears right there on the photo file. But it is still being "considered for deletion," even though the permission was sent.

Could you look at it and (in your judgment) condsider defending this photo? It is only fair that a permission is respected, and I would really appreciate it.

Thank you.

You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 04:52, 20 June 2010 (UTC) [reply]
